So yesterday, I had to shutdown the computer by pressing the launch button. After I turned it on again, all icons were pretty much messed up. I use windowsblinds and iconpackager. But I tried deinstalling both of them, and problem didnt go away. I tried to use default windows icons, problem still there. It isnt a huge problem. But it is a bothering one as I don't know where it comes from or how to fix it
i have a Misubishi Diammond Plus 200 and an integrated intel video card. Yes im behind in the technology age but i have no money, i am however saving up money, for a new computer. Anyways. After sometime or sometimes after a reboot, my computer screen just goes haywire. I got distorted colours and lines all over the place they are horizontal and 1 - 5 vertical lines splitting up the screen equally. Now at this stage my computer is like unbearable. I cant seem to do anything without it going messed up. This usually runs when im running graphic extensive things but it justed started occuring more and more often. I have no idea what i have installed that can possiby have affected it. I have run spyware scan trojan scan virus scans to no avail.
When I hit CTRL ALT DEL the screen comes up but I am locked on the "sign off other XP users" screen and the tabs to switch screen are not there. I have no ide aon how to fix this.
Out of no where, my computer just shuts off, so I turn it back on and a blue screen appears. It says that it had to shut down windows so that it doesnt cause any problems. So i restart my computer and then when i go to log in, my normal log in screen doesnt appear. It shows a box that says Account Name, and password. Usually its the normal log in screen with the pictures to click on to get into an account. So i "log in", and nex thing I notice is the icons on the desktop have a wierd color to them. Then I notice there is a grey bar covering my taskbar and Start button. I cant click the start button at all. And when I click the Windows button on my keyboard, it pops up the start menu but it doesnt have any icons beside the names. It sort of looks like im in safe mode, but im not.And when I right click on My computer, it doesnt show the General, Computer Name, or Automatic Updates tabs. When I click on the Remote tab, it doesnt show anything and then the tab just disappears. Also when I try starting a program like World of Warcraft, or Ventrillo it says "The application has failed to start becuase the application configuration in incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."
A couple of days ago I got a system error message during XP's startup. It told me to proceed. I clicked yes, and it looked like it entered Safe Mode (4 bit, 640 x 480). There were no messages. I reset the color setting to normal and reboot. XP loaded but said Win XP encoutnered a serious error. But everything seemed normal except for my wallpaper that had patterns as if it were in "halftone." (The problem went away when I reapplied the wallpaper.) I ran the usual aps, checked for viruses and spyware, none found.Today I was using IE, MSN Messenger and Windows Media Player when I heard a beep sound and everything froze for about a minute. Then the screen went black for a few second then went into Safe Mode with the low res colors. An error message said there had been a device failure and that I should save my work. I restarted the computer and it was fine.I just replaced my monitor a few days before any of these happened. I also notice a loud sound and light coming from my floppy disk drive after it is used, as if the computer is still reading it.Could it be a hard disk faailure? But shouldn't there be an error message about it? With Win98 I could tell when the HD was conking out because it always ran a scandisk at the start. Could it be the video card?
I have a problem with one of the workstations in my small office, its win2000 Pro and once in awhile upon restart the logn screen turns to jumbled mush, half 75% of the screen is black, the rest blue. The only thing you can really see is part of th wn2000 pro welcome screen. Sometimes after u turn it off a few times it corrects itself but not this time so far and as far as i know it was spyware n virus free.I have seen this in one office before so i thought it was a fairly common problem but after doing a search for awhile I've found nothing on "messed up login screens".
I don't know what is wrong with my computer. The screen just constantly twitches and it annoys me so much, I want it to stop. I'm not sure what the problem is. Could my monitor be messed up? I have a Dell Dimension XPS T600 from 1999 with XP, up to date virus software. Anyone know what could be wrong here?
the screen keeps blinking after the post tests. I dont see any text, i dont think its a video card issue. I see the bios screen. I reboted the comp, formatted it, and when windowsw was abotut to install the screen gets messed up. Whats wrong

I was in run/control userpasswords2 trying to give admin privileges to a user account and when I came out I somehow deleted the users icon from the welcome screen. When I try to add user back in through both the run/control userpasswords2 and Control/users I get the message that the user already exists. How can I ge the user icon back on the welcome screen?
I was looking for a United Methodist Church logo that is commonly used and went on one of the UMC websites to see if I could copy it to my computer for purposes of incorporating it into graphic artwork for some t-shirts that my client wanted us to print for them. I found the logo and clicked on the outside of it and dragged my cursor over the image until it became "transparant blue" and sent it to my computer. I thought it was going to my artwork file, but instead it went to my desktop. The problem is that it is now permanently on my desktop.I cannot highlight it, encompass it in a box or move it at all. This image is not from the screen saver program. It's not an icon. You can't even click on it and move it around on the desktop. It doesn't respond to any right clocks or left clicks at all. It is permanently rooted in this one spot on my desktop screen.
I'm posting this for a friend so please bear with me.My friend was online last night with no problems. Then when trying to go to a game room he was told to update his Java VM. When he clicked ok, he received a message "error has occured, click ignore to continue or close".He closed and everything turned off.Since then, he gets a blue screen each time he starts the computer up, or he gets as far as the Desktop and gets the error as soon as he clicks on his AOL icon.
Dell computer from 2001. . I was on the regedit screen, and when I went into one of the HKEY_LocalMachine or one of those HKEY folders, the "Classes" folder got deleted. That's when everything kind of...messed up. Regedit stopped working (asked for an "appropriate program from the list" to use with it) and almost everything stopped, so I had to shut the computer down.
Now when I shut it down and tried to get back on, I couldn't get ANYTHING on the logon screen except a dinky little Windows logo, with no usernames, making it impossible to logon!
how the heck do I get back to the WIndows logon screen with the usernames back? Do I need a special CD I need to purchase, and is there anyway to get back the users without losing all my stuff? Please help. you can post here to help or email me at kobetheman1212@gmail.com

I was wondering how to fix this problem, the icon for internet explorer in the start menu shows up as an unknown file icon. The icon on the desktop for IE shows fine but when i try to click on it, it creates a shortcut for internet explorer. if click on IE from the start menu, it opens IE with no problems.
I'm going to ask a question which is something related to programming in windows.. Is there a way that i can add my own icon to the existing file and folder icon like dropbox.Changing desktop.ini is the only way for changing folder icons??How can i add my own icon to the existing file icon(like a tick on below every file icon).
no IE icon on desktop or in programs. i have internet access through verizon. i recently got windows update to install IE7 in the hope that would restore the icon/program but the only way i can access the internet is via the verizon browser. i clearly installed IE7 because now the "sidebar" of my verizon browser says that "sidebar i currently not compatible with IE7...". so why can't i get the IE7 icon in my program list or desktop?
i had attached a snapshot of the icons in my icon tray..pass few days back i found this "X" icon in my tray and i cant remove it and also it doesnt display anything..
After looking at the display settings and closing them, my icon disappeared. A file search on all *.cpl files show that the display.cpl file still exists and I can create a shortcut to the desktop and run the program. But, I'd like my icon back.I believe the problem was created by having all my icons underlined so I only have to do a single Left click to bring up the program.
I've winxp Home with SP2 system, yesterday my daughter had installed the program 'MS Plus' from the XP Installation CD which was not installed earlier in the machine. My OS is original, but to-day on opening the system I'm seeing that the icon of Hard Drive(E : Drive)to which the program was installed went missing and in its place another icon (which generally represents for any unidentified file) has taken its place.
Im new to this forum but i am so thankfull that this site is hereMy problem is my 11 year old son downloaded a program that was supposed to find duplicate copies of files on his PC and delete them.Well he did this but in doing so he deleted some boot files(i beleave) and he cannot boot up.He downloaded the 4 bootdisk files from the net but still will not boot up from floopy drive either. The error message reads this>>> 'Windows 2000 could not start up because the following file is missing or corrupt....<windows 2000 root>system32 toskrnl.exe. Please re-install a copy of the file. His computer is a IBM with windows 2000 loaded.I beleave there are 2 copies of windows 2000 on his computer because when he tries to bootup it gives him a choice of either copies.Ive tried the windows 2000 CD to boot in the cd-rom drive but either its not reading or maybe its because the disk is a copy and not original.
Currently my AIM program keeps on restarting and says "trying to reconnect..." and when it finally reconnects, it does the same thing again for about another 5 times. I've already downloaded a new version of AIM, ran AIM bot, and the program still progresses.
Brand new intel p4 has issues. Please help. it shows the intel p4 screen, start bios then gets a few 95,BA, 94, E9. Then gets a long consistent beeping noise. It sounds like the bios is messed up.Under system summary, says sys manufacturer intel system model D945gtp system type x86-based pc
I upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows XP, and every since I upgraded my computer had been a mess. I don't think my Virus Scan is working right and I have eTrust EZ Armor 2005 which is one that Microsoft recommends. My floppy drive isn't working either. I get a error message that says my driver is corrupt Error 39. My memory got full. I have 10 GB memory and I only have 4.17 left now. I have 512 Ram in my computer, but I don't know how much is left and don't know how to find out. Since I upgraded I can no longer shut my computer down from my desk top. I go to Start and click turn off my computer, then I go to shut down. I seems to go through the motions, but a screen comes up and says it is safe to shut my computer down, well it won't shut down with the button on thefront, so I have to push the button on the back of my computer.
I messed up my registry and now I can't get any audio, and my DVD and CD ROM drives won't play music/movies. Luckly I have a copy of the registry saved on my hard drive. When I try to merge the file I get this error " Not all data was successfully written to the registry. Some keys are open by the system or other processes" How do I go around this? I really do not want to re-install windows again.
While I was using the program, DVD Shrink, the screen from the program froze up. So I turned my power on and off to restart my computer. When I restarted it, Windows XP had a blue screen on which I never saw before that said it would go through 3 stages to fix any errors that shutting down my computer may have caused. After Windows automatically restarted, what comes on my screen with all the desktop icons is now messed up-- as programs automatically try to open, I get a box like this: "ituneshe/per.exe- Bad Image The application or dll c:/windows/system32/att.dll is not a valid windows image"The same would happen for my anti virus program, and AIM.I can still access all my documents, and my internet works fine. But the startup process seems like the beginning of problems to come in the future. Does anyone have any advice how I can remedy this?
When ever i click on minimise the screen i wish to do so shrinks in the normal way but appears to disappear behind the task bar. So in my task bar i have nothing. But when i activate task manager its still running.
My computer keeps rebooting on me for NO REASON all the time. At first I thought it was my Hard Drive because my computer had become forgetful and when i tested it I found that I had "137 Reallocated Sectors". So I went out yesterday and bought me a new one. I have reformatted and it's STILL rebooting. I am about to pull my hair out..it's getting so frustrating. Here are my specs.
My sister sent me a link to a website with a 'funny video' and I downloaded it. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Anyway, I right-clicked and opened with VLC, and I have no idea how many different VLCs opened. The screen went black and suddenly my desktop is set to 4 bit color and 640x480 resolution. I can change the resolution, but every time I try and change the color, the screen goes black for a good 30 seconds, and when it comes back, it says "your settings have been changed do you wish to keep the bla bla bla" - but it's still at 4 colors. And while it's at it, it switches the resolution back to 640x480. I'm not sure what you need to know for this... I have WinXP and my video card is an Intel 82810E.
cuz of this stupid AIM virus, that was a .pif file... it started sending the message to other people, so i shut down my pc. Then i tried to reboot but my password wasnt working, so i went into bios, and not knowing what i did i went to change startup pass and changed it... now when i reboot it says use a startup pass, but it wont even let me type it in....and i dont know how to start windows xp cd at reboot cuz for some reason it doesnt go through even when i enter the BIOS....can someone please help me? my pc is messed up.
