Recently Windows Update hasn't been working for me. I, just about a minute ago, tryed updating and 8/8 updates failed These are the upates I was trying to download/install but they all failed.
Update for WMDRM-enabled Media Players (KB902344) Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (KB900325) Security Update for Windows Media Player 10 for Windows XP (KB917734) Security Update for Windows XP (KB914389) Security Update for Windows XP (KB918439) Security Update for Windows XP (KB911280) Security Update for Windows XP (KB917953) Definition Update 1.14.1503.8 for BETA Windows Defender (KB915597)
I have a large amount of the above named files as a result of MS patches and updates. If these patches and updates were successful, and apparently they were, as I have received no indications otherwise. It's my understanding that these files are used to reverse or uninstall a failed update; Is that correct? How can I verify that all patches and updates were successfully applied? I've had no trouble after installing these, so I'm assuming that all is well. So the question is, How do I remove these $NTUninstallKB******* files?
When go to Microsoft.com and try to update my computer, it says that the update was failed. I have tried everything I can think of to fix this problem, but am out of ideas.

Security Update for Windows XP (KB896423) Security Update for Windows XP (KB922819) Cumulative Security Update for Outlook Express for Windows XP (KB923694)

I tried to download and install the latest XP update (Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.18.2621.7), and it failed three times. Has anyone else had this problem?
I have recently updated (Auto)Windows XP. I have a Xerox laser printer on my network which after the update failed to work although it works from other computers (Mac) on the same network. I did a system restore and now it works, so the update is the fault. Before or if, I update again has anyone any advice on how to repair this situation. Auto Update is presently turned off).
How come when I tried to update outlook 2003 junk email filter it keeps saying it failed. Then I tried to go to the website to download directly from them instead of windows but it still did not work. Also, when it said that i need to install activeX it failed because it does not know publisher. and the icon keeps popping up saying I have to update but everytime I try to update it it keep failing.
About 7 days ago PC startup time went to an average of 6-7 minutes from just a few minutes. The event viewer seems to point to an 'Automatic LiveUpdate Scheduler' entry with description: "Initialization of the COM subsystem failed: Error code: 0x8007041D". It is the only 'error' entry in the log upon startup. I Googled this to death and tried various things:
1. checked HD for errors 2. multiple tools used to cleanup/repair registry 3. reinstalled Windows Automatic Updater 4. defrag the HDs (grasping at straws)....
Have got some registry entries in HKCU root folder that I have never seen before I have recently installed Net Framework 3.5 and Visual Basic 2008 Express, these entries may have something to do with one or both of these installs.
I started having these problems a few days ago. The main one is that when I try to go to Tools/Internet Options in Internet Explorer,I get the message "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer." I get a similar message when I try to save changes when exiting msconfig. Needless to say, I am the administrator and the only one who uses the computer, so it's not a restriction/permission issue. My problem is that my registry path doesn't match up to what is shown above. After I get to Policies/Microsoft there is no Internet Explorer folder in either of those two paths. If I start from CURRENT USER, the only folder under Policies/Microsoft is System Certificates, and if I start from LOCAL MACHINE, the only folders are Conferencing, System Certificates, Windows, and Windows NT. I tried searching the whole registry for "restrictions" and found nothing. So what do I do now?
my problem is that when I try to run the ''Regedit" or active any register key, I get this message "this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer please contact your system administrator" and when I login as administrator I get the same message.
Error message "Operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Contact system administrator." I want to clear my cache. What do I do?
I'm trying to open web links and file links in any of the Office 2003 products, for example Outlook. I click the link to open it, and an error message appears: This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.
So, what do I do about this message . It's suggesting that I havea a virus, possibly Trojan, abwiz.F or possibly automatically need to download virus definition with the Intelligent Updater. My computer won't allow this and tell me that it is recommended to stop the process. The virus removal is far too complicated and I have read that folks who have done this found it didn't help the problem. I have Norton Virus protection.
A couple of things are driving me insane. When I press F8 regardless of my choice the system will allow me to boot only in normal mode. I.E. If I choose "Safe mode with command prompt" and hit enter, the next screen shows first line "Please select the operating system to start" second line "Windows XP professional" highlighted, third line "Use the up and down key to... Press enter to choose" and at the bottom "For troubleshooting and advanced startup options press F8" and the last line, in highlighted blue "Safe mode with command prompt". I then press enter and after scrolling thru all the lines the system reboots to the F8 boot options.Only "boot in normal mode" gets me out of the loop.
i recently wanted to installed a few windows components from the windows xp installation cd. during the install i cancelled it. but the next day when i booted up the pc i got two options in the boot menu. After clicking on File at the top of the screen, a list of files opened by this program appears at the bottom of the drop down box. Is there any way to delete some or all of these entries?
how to delete an item from the right click shortcut menu that opens up when you right click on a program icon? It seems that sometimes when I install a new program, the new program takes it upon itself to stick an option in this menu. It's getting quite lengthy and most of them I have no use for. I would like to clean it up if there is an easy way short of going into the registry.
I have a registry entry that keeps respawning after numerous attempts to remove it. Is it possible to keep a registry entry from loading or keep it from even getting into the registry. The entry in question is:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMainBandRest
I have noticed rather a lot of duplicate entries in my registry I enclose an example below, can I delete them? AcroPDF.FDF AcroPDF.FDF.1 the CLSID data is exactly the same.
I have got two startup entries that cant be deleted. HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun They have the ability to clone most startup entries, and they cant be permanently deleted. Over the last year I have downloaded and ran multiple scans, with various malware applications from quite a few web site help forums.None gave any indication of malware present, but I suppose you cant rule it out. The first time I notice something odd was with Misconfig, I had three startup entries for SISUSBRG. I deleted two of them and disabled the original one. The next time they re-appeared was as 1 and 2 program entries
