Gets Dialog Box - Your System Recovered From A Serious Error
May 2, 2008
Quite frequently while I'm in the middle of typing an email in Gmail, my computer without warning restarts itself. When I log back in I get this dialog box that tells me the subject title and offers to send to the error report to Microsoft. I'm not the only one who has experienced that. So, what do you think is the problem and how can I stop the computer from arbitrarily restarting itself?

I have been having problems with the computer starting up correctly in the 'regular' windows screen. The latest problem I had was that the computer wasn't starting correctly. It gave me a screen that said something about starting in the 'safe mode'. To my recollection, the words 'last known windows configuration' (something to that effect) was high lighted and it was counting down. It look like it wanted to start up windows, but kept going back to the screen with me wanting to choose a method of startup. After a couple of tries, Windows finally started up.Lately I been getting an dialogue box that says: "The system has recovered from a serious
error."

I'm having hard/software or driver issues, I guess. I get an info box that says: The system has recovered from a serious error. I have sent the requested report to micro. My question is how do I keep the error message box from popping up every minute? I'm looking into the prob with the error but can't take the message much longer.

Earlier this evening my brother wanted to transfer a song to his MP3 player, so I got it all setup for him and ran off for a minute. When I came back, he said the computer had just restarted itself while he was trying to transfer the song. I came back to see the computer had just finished running through the Scandisk/ErrorCheck and was starting up again. When I signed back into my desktop, I recieved a message stating the computer had recovered from a serious error. I clicked for more details and spread the windows out so I was able to take a screenshot of all 3 messages about the error. I attached the picture to this post.We went ahead and got the song transfered just fine afterwards, but when I went to connect to the internet, it wouldn't dial up and said the modem was not there. I went into the Modem settings and it said the "Lucent Win Modem" was not there. This is the one that was setup by default with Windows XP. My Zoom modem will not work for some reason (which is what is currently installed right now). I did manage to fix the problem by shutting things down, removing the modem, putting it back into the PCI slot and starting things up again. In the Modem settings, it showed that the Lucent Win Modem was there and running correctly. I was able to connect fine afterwards. Could whatever the "serious error" was have caused this problem? Is there a way I can reinstall the Lucent Win Modem again should this happen again and removing the card does not work next time? Like I said, my modem is a Zoom modem but I cannot get it going, but for some reason the computer sees that Lucent modem and it uses my Zoom modem to connect just fine.
Can anybody tell me what this error was for, and any ideas as to why the system decided to restart? It just took me a year before I was able to repair my system because it automatically restarted and I'd really rather it didn't start it up again since a lot of money had to be put into fixing this computer. Also, the 2 files listed in the bottom window of that screenshot are not located on my hard drive. I went to the exact location listed, but that last subfolder is not listed in the Temp directory anywhere. I have all hidden files set to be shown already. I also ran a search on the entire drive and there are no such files located on the drive.

Lately i've been having some problems with my pc. Some of the programs that i use seem to have an error with it. For example, when i'm using opera a box pops up saying an error has occured with opera and needs to shut down the program (asking me whether to send an error report or not). This is not the only program that does this. Even Media player, bittorrent, winamp, windows messenger, actually its most programs.Sometimes i get an error with 'DrWatson Postmortem Debugger' which causes my pc to lock up.A few times i got a blue screen error. Each time that happens the pc restarts itself and then i get another message saying 'system has recovered from a serious error', again asking me to send an error report or not.

On Saturday I got the first of these. I was on the internet, pressed the back key and the computer shut down without warning of any kind. It was slow to boot back up which it did of its own accord. Then displayed this message, "The system has recovered from a serious error."

For the last 4 weeks or so I have been having problems starting up my computer. It freezes on the password screen, it automatically restarts, usually takes me about 4 attempts to get my computer up and running. Then, when I finally do get it going it gives me a message saying:
THE SYSTEM HAS RECOVERED FROM A SERIOUS ERROR
I sent off my error report and a screen opened up with a few recommendations, such as running diagnostic tests on certain softwares, and trying a system restore, which I did but to no avail.

Im getting a Microsoft Windows Error at every computer start up or more commonly after a game i was playing crashes and the computer restarts or has to be restarted. The error is: The system has recovered from a serious error. After sending the error report it directed me to the microsoft windows error reporting page with "corrupted error report" and the following " Unfortunately, the error report you submitted is corrupted and cannot be analyzed. Corrupted error reports are rare. They can be caused by hardware or software problems, and they usually indicate a serious problem with your computer."

My pc restarted. I thought it was because of an update or something. Soon after, it restarted again. I noticed that the pc was restarting every 20-30mins and when I would login, I would have a message telling me Ive recovered from a serious error. I used the restore wizard, and restored to 4-5 days before I got the problems. I didnt have a problem for about 4-5 days, and then it started restarting again. It still restarts, but now every few hours. I havent dont any hardware or software cahnges in teh last week. Ive only installed PS3 Video 9 and then I uninstalled it thinking it may have been because of that program. I also deleted everything I downloaded in those few days and ran nod32. So should I restore my pc to like a month before? maybe that will get rid of it? Is it software related, or is something lose in the computer?

When booting up my PC, I am receiving the following error message 'STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): SystemRootSystem32ConfigSOFTWARE or its lor or alternative. It is corrupt, absent or not writable'. I understand that the OS needs to be recovered from the XP bootup disk but the OS was pre-installed so I do not have a copy of this.

My Computer keeps rebooting. It does this several times a day. It started about 2 weeks ago. When it reboots it says the computer has recovered from a serious error, and a few click here links, leading me to a .dmp and a .xls file. It doesn't matter what I am doing.
Sometimes I'll click a desktop icon .reboot. Then click a link from my email pop client.reboot. Or maybe I click a link in my browser.reboot. it's not one thing that I do, when it decides to reboot. I unchecked the auto restart button, and got this blue screen.
I have not added any new Hardware or software. I formatted and re installed new Windows XP Pro Sp2 3 days ago, hoping it was software virus related NOPE Is something wrong with my usb ports? The CPU fan is working goot and the temps are good, do it's not over heating.

Getting a popup the first time I login after a reboot of XP Pro SP2: Windows cannot find /idlist,:518:1864,'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. Tod search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search. I notice that it takes nearly a minute to complete my first login. During that time I get the welcome screen and the notice that my personal setting are being loaded. Shortly after (10 sec) I initiate the login, I hear an alert tone; I assume that is the popup described above.

When I used the xp home edition System Configuration Utility { SRU} it deleted all my system restore points. Not only did the SRU not solve the problem, but I could then not use the system restore facility which may have solved the problem . I have downloaded nothing but an Ad-Aware update since I lost all my system restore points. Can these deleted system restore points be recovered?

I have a folder containing pdf's, word and excel documents and mp3s (about 13 GB in size ). When I opened my mother's laptop, I discovered that someone accidentally dragged my folder to another folder next to it (my whole famiy uses that laptop) I opened it and all of my files were deleted! So, I searched for ways to recover deleted files and installed a software to recover it on drive C: (my folder is in drive D: ) . The program was able to locate my files but I cannot recover it because the program is not free so I downloaded other free programs. The other drive's space is not enough to accommodate the deleted files so ( not knowing the consequences of my actions ) I transferred some files of C: to D: (about 1.5 GB ). However, the free program was not able to find my files so I searched again. I tried System Restore and I was able to recover it. But when I tried opening the files, it says that "There was an error opening this document. Access is denied" for pdf,s, "Windows Media Player cannot access the file.

Instead of re-formatting and losing tons of items I haven't backed up I recently performed a system recovery (The F10 command that doesn't destroy your data). Now I have a clean windows setup and can see that the C drive is still more than half full but I have no clue how to get to my data.

I have recently built and deployed an SBS 2003 server. Today I joined one of my machines to that newly created domain. In this process (adding to domain, redirecting My Docs, etc.) I lost the ability to logoff. Not exactly clear when that happened, but the current state is no good.I cannot log off using the start menu items. When the logoff or shutdown dialogs come up I can click the OK or Log Off and the dialog goes away, but nothing happens. I have looked at the task manager and really nothing happens. CPU doesn't budge. I can continue working as long as I'd like.

Several weeks ago a window popped up on the screen when I booted the computer. It informed me that information for the registry had been recovered using a log or a file. I presume something happened in the registry. What or how I do not know as I don't fool around in there. Is there anything I need to do or check? How can I be rid of the little window from Windows with the information?

I am running Win XP-SP2. I wiped my hard drive due to irresolvable software conflicts. I reinstalled XP-SP2, Office, Norton, the printer and scanner and my digital camera software package. All were updated and working perfectly until Sunday. I booted up the machine only to get a warning that says One of your disks may have errors let the computer reboot itself (which it will do repeatedly, stuck in a reboot loop) or you can hit any key to ignore this warning. You have only ten seconds to read all this and make a decision.
Once the computer boots up, everything seems to work as normal except for system restore. I tried to restore to the day after I reformatted and installed everything and all I get is an error saying Cannot restore to that point, please choose another point to restore tooor something to that effect.
