A little background to the problems I have had. At first I had the 1 2 3 diagnostic lights lit green and it would be a black screen (when I power on) and would not load windows nor the dell screen (could not access bios). I took the cmos battery out and this time it flashed the dell screen so I went into the bios and disabled the floppy drive as there is not one and it fixed the problem...(booted fine) but then something else went wrong. I got the flashing amber light. I had a 500W psu I bought for this system anyway so I put that in and again was able to get back to windows. I decided to do a windows clean install as I was also getting explorer.exe and drwatson errors. During Xp setup I selected L to replace the windows folder with the files on my windows installation cd. Apparently doing this removed my ethernet adapter and controllers so now the windows cannot access the web to update the installation. Now the Windows installation freezes and will not continue. I tried restarting the computer and it went right back to the windows installation and froze again. I restarted a 3rd time and this time I got a black screen that says x300xtbios p/n 113-a33-437-102. What does this mean and how do I fix this... I tried popping out the cmos battery again (not sure what I was hoping for there but figured it couldnt hurt) and now I am back to the 1 2 3 green lights being on and the computer makes 2 beep sounds on start up. Only problem is this time I cant seem to get the dell screen to come up so I cant get into the bios again like I did last time. All I wanted was a clean windows installation. What does the x300xbios stuff mean..why did that come up and what should I do now?
I got this system from a freind it is a dell ( i know ) optiplex Gx260 1.8 p 4 they had windows pirated and installed the wga so it locked out i put three different copys of xp in drive to no ovail it will not boot to disk put win 2000 in same i had my mac os leopard start to run and it stops in the middle so that tells me the drive is good i changed the boot sequence to run from usb and tryed copying xp to a usb drive no way it says operating system not found hit f1or f2 so i hit f12 to do it that way and i pick ide cd rom drive and still it says hit f1 or f2 so is there any one that can help me the guys at dell are rude and there web site was no help
I recently Installed windows sp sp3 on my dell laptop and after i restarted the computer i found that i am stuck in a boot loop! i cannot boot to anything not safe mode or last known good config. Everytime it boots to normal windows, it gets to the boot screen scrolls across once and then stops and shows a blue screen for about a second, not enough time for me to see, and then it reboots and repeats the process. I have been able to see the bsod because of disabling the auto restart and it showed this stop : c0000221 unknown hard error systemrootsystem32 tdll.dll. When i boot into safe mode it gets to the agp440.sys or whatever it is then restarts. Now im pretty sure this is a common problem with sp3 installs, but isnt that normally on amd machines where you have to disable intelppm. Im running a dell with a pentium 4 m processor so it cant be that.
I need to reformat my friend's Dell Inspiron 700m laptop. But when she ordered this laptop, the order didn't come with any window installation disc. If I am not mistaken, isn't Dell do provide the installation disc to the customer? Anyway, I wonder is there anyway we can download the installation program from Dell website? If so, how do we do it?
a friend has a Dell Dimension 4550 (P4-2Ghz, 60Gb HDD, 784mb RAM- added 512mb and a NEC DVD+/-R, circa 2002 I think?) and needs to do a clean install. He has the CD that came with it. We looked all over google and the Dell site and can't seem to find out how to do a clean install. We pressed F12 and tried to boot from the CD-ROM and thought it was going to work, but it said that we were trying to install XP on a partition that already had XP on it. I saw no option for full/clean restore.
I got a friends personal computer it is a dell demension 2400 it won't do anything except go to the screen with big dell letters on it.I have a soyo techaid card it came up with a code number 35 which could be initialize alternate chipset registers or is it what dell says there code 35 is cmos shutdown test in progress or bad.
Transferred all information from Dimension (Dell) to Dell XPS 410. Both computers using XP program. When I start to use my Picasa program I have a continual pop up that says " The DLL "cpuinf32.dll" can not be loaded. OS reports: The specifdied module could not be fouind. Am no computeer whiz--so this is all "Greek" to me. What should I do to correct this?
I've lately had some problems with my win-xp (home) following installation/ un-installation of daemon tools that corrupted some registry files. After an unsuccesfull repair-instalation of xp, i re-installed xp onto the secondary partition of my hard drive (d:, the original instalation being on c. I was intending to format the c: drive, then instal a copy of xp-pro i have onto it
finally moving the files i want to keep back from the d: drive onto the c: drive. The problem i'm now having is on formatting i recieve the error message 'system partition is not allowed to be formatted', as it is the primary partition. Can i go about formatting this drive in partitions and proceed with the re-install without having to remove the files i have on the d: drive? How might i go about this?
I started up the computer, watched the BIOS detect the RAM, hard drive, etc, and then was greeted by a blank screen instead of the Windows boot screen. It proceeded though, and after a few seconds flashed to another black screen, this time displaying the cursor. I'm guessing this is the logon screen, but nothing displays but the cursor. (Note that the video card and monitor are both fine...I tried swapping them out just in case.)
I need to install Windows XP Pro on my laptop. Currently it has Vista. Some people are selling these installation CDs (and keys) on ebay. Can I buy it from there?
Whenever I try to install something, the window that shows thats its installing closes and installation stops. I restart the install, but it keeps on closing and at different times.
I am trying to install SP3 on a Windows XP Home (currently SP2). The installation is hung on "Finishing Installation - Performing cleanup". I downloaded the installer from the MS Download center (it didn't appear in Windows Update). Is it safe to turn off the computer (since I can't close the installer), or should I let it sit for a while longer (it's been hanging for a few hours)?
I am currently trying to hook up my dell latitude cpx to my tv to use it as my monitor. It has an S-Video out port, and my tv has RCA ports only, so i purchased a cable which is s-video to an rca connector for my video in. Well when I boot up my laptop, when i get to the welcome screen in xp, it starts to display on my tv, but then about 5 to 10 seconds after that it flickers and the picture goes away.Ive tried everything in the display settings and also enabled everything in my BOIS, with no luck.
a very old blac/white and a lesser old color both parallel work well w/IBM notebooks. The new Dell only has USB and the black/white works, the color 820Cse would only print Internet documents but none that I type in Word or Wordperfect. Why print one kind but not what I am typing?
Our Dell XPS has been freezing up. You have maybe 10 good minutes before it happens - it doesn't seem to matter what you were doing - we have been using firefox, or IE, or any number of other non-web browser programs when it happens. It will suddenly freeze up and there is nothing you can do but shut it down by pressing the power button. The only thing different that we did recently was download and install the latest Norton 360. After that the freezing up started, but in all honesty, it was seeming a little sluggish before that.
I've been having problems with slow performance. This happens when switching users, working offline and when browsing. I use Norton Antivirus and Spy Sweeper.
I have recently had to format my Dell Dimension 2400 desktop due to the fact it was full of viruses
I used an XP home sp2 disc to format and reinstall the operating system no probs, but now the screen resolution won't go above 640x480 pixels, and everything is massive, I'm guessing this is a driver issue
i'm haveing tonz of probleums with XP and i'm not really sure what to do, i don't have much space left and i would like to just start over i have formatted it twice before, and fixed all the probleums. now if i do it from that will i still need the windows XP cd and such, i also have my dell recovery cd if this helps? Thankz for any help!

I want to run the Dell Diagnostics from my ResourceCD that came with my computer. I suspect a problem with my video card and I am trying to check it out. I've been trying the following steps but it doesn't work. This is exactly what it says in my Dell Handbook:
1. Insert the resource CD.
2. Shut down and restart the computer. When the Dell logo appears, press F12 immediately.
3. When the boot device list appears, highlight IDE CD-ROM Device and press Enter. This is as far as I can get. When I select the CD-ROM to boot from, nothing happens and Windows loads normally.
4. Select the IDE CD-ROM Device option from the CD boot menu...........
