Cannot Connect To Remote Port 25 From Pro Workstations
Mar 27, 2007
I have a strange issue in that I cannot connect to remote port 25 from windows xp workstations. Some workstations are ok, and this works, some are not. All these workstations are in a windows 2003 domain and all are xp sp2. I've seen this before but not found a solution. All the workstations here have their firewalls enabled with the same configuration via GPO. So all I can think of is that microsoft's crippled tcp/ip stack is responsible for this in some lame attempt to reduce spam or something, but we need this as it stops some legitimate processes from running (for example command line utils and python programs that need to send notification emails.
how do I find the port of a computer to set the ip address for remote desktop connection? we have many work stations that share the same IP, but we just added a station and I can't figure out how to get the four digit port number
You can use the Remote Desktop feature in Windows XP Professional to connect to your computer from another, remote computer. WARNING: The Remote Assistance feature in Windows XP may not work properly if you change the listening port.the Edit menu, click Modify, click Decimal, type the new port number, and then click OK. Quit Registry Editor.NOTE: When you try to connect to this computer by using the Remote Desktop connection, you must type the new port.Update: I forgot to inform you that you need to add this to the default.rdp file for the XP terminal client Add this line anywhere in the file. server port:i:your port numberie server port:i:21
Every time I turn my printer on, I get the following message: USB device can run faster if you connect to a 2.0 USB port. As I have a lot of USB devices, I purchased a USB hub and have the printer going through it. Everything prints fine, should I swap my devices so the printer runs faster? Will it make a difference?Running XP Home with the following USB devices: scanner, 2 USB printers, memory stick, and keyboard. Keyboard has two USB ports, but same message occurs.
I am experiencing difficulty in making a remote desktop connection over a VPN. I can connect with RD over our local network though. When I connect to the VPN, I can ping the computer that I want to RD to, and I can even see it in explorer, I just can't connect via remote desktop. I thought it might be a firewall problem, but Windows firewall is allowing that exception.
I would like to be able to connect to the existing open session in the console instead of loging in again.I use win2003 server at work, and XP at home. Normally I don't log off when I leave work since I like to come back in the morning and continue where I was. If while Im at home, want to add something to my work and use the remote desktop connection, I always need to log in and a new session is created, then I start with an empty desktop and have to get the applications up before I can continue working. It would be much nicer to connect to the existing session as I left at the office.Does anyone know what I need to set up/enable?
My computer is networked to my boyfriends computer at home. He's the administrator and im guessing can browse my computer remotely. Though it appears that i cant connect to his computer to retrieve some of the files that are mine on his computer. See he saved some stuff on his, i have a laptop he has a desktop.
When I am press to connect remote desktop connection, the microsoft debug windows will prompt. If I am press Don't Send or Debug, my remote desktop connection windows will close.Did you all facing this problem before ? It is make me very irritated.
I have 4 comp on a w2k enviroment, 3 of them w2k and one of them xp pro,I was always able t rd to any of them and from any of them to each other, today the xp fail to rd. I get this error "client could not connect to the remote computer, remote connection might no be enable or the computer might be too busy to accept new connection"
I am having a problem with various workstations hanging when trying to log in. Sometimes after powering down and restarting it will log on successfully, other times it still hangs. This same issue is happening at several of our school campuses, each with their independent domain.
This problem pops up at my office every time we add new users. When we create a new account and proceed to log the new user in at an existing workstation, some workstations won't log the new user in. We get the error that the user can't login because their profile is not found. We have a handful of machines that will complete the new login, create the new profile directory and thereafter the user can login anywhere. Again it's only some workstations. All of the computers run XP Pro, the server is a Win2k3 running Active Directory. We've unjoined and rejoined to the domain.
I have 2 IBM Intellistation workstations that are cross-over cable connected. Running XP Pro. I am admin on both machines. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why I cannot access either machine from each. I have run the network setup wizard at least a dozen times, checked the protocols, etc.I have Norton Firewall disabled on both machines since they are dial-up only. I enable before dialing the outside world.I can see both machines under the same workgroup name, but when I select the 2nd machine, I get a popup login window, with the USERNAME set to guest (which is greyed out) and a blinking password option. If I go to the other machine and attempt the same process, the same result occurs. GUEST login is already disabled under User Profiles so I assume that is why the userid (as guest) is already greyed. There are only three login options, Admin, Myself (with admin priv) and my co-worker (power user).Where do I go to check network access settings? I need to share both computers in order to transfer data back and forth.
Running a windows 2003 Domain environment. The users on the workstations have all been Local Admins on their workstations for a while, and now I want to revoke that and make them regular users. The goal is no installation of unauthorized software, including unintended installs of malware.Problem - ActiveX on websites is simply not working. I can't figure out which GPOs to set to allow ActiveX to install/run for specific content/sites. Is there a way to use Group Policies to allow ActiveX content to run on Trusted Sites? I see tons of settings in GP, but none seem to work.
This is my first post on this site, and I just want you guys to know that I tried my best before making this post, but I just can't seem to solve this problem. We have a domain with all workstations running Windows XP. The server is Windows 2000 Server. A new computer running Windows XP x64 Edition is trying to connect to the domain but is getting the following error. The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "domain_name";he account is not authorized to log in from this station.I tried the following settings in local security settings
The title says it all! Basically I have a comp running XP pro and I want to be able to work locally on one user account, with some kind of remote access server running on another XP user account so that the remote account and the local account can be used simultaniously. I know that this cannot be done with XP Pro remote desktop and could be by Windows Server 2003 remote desktop, but i need an alternate solution to make this happen.
I want to use Remote Desktop Sharing in NetMeeting to connect to a remote PC to download files or fix problems on it. I tried to call the remote PC using its IP address but it only allow me to access the netmeeting features like video conferencing.
I'm looking in using either using Remote Assitance and/or Desktop in a help desk support environment. For example, if a user calls in asking for assistance with a application, or if we are in need of troubleshooting the machine, we would like to initate a remote assistance request that takes the end user out of the equation so we don't need to walk them through how to send a email/file request.
I have two different computers both running Windows XP professional. I am trying to connect to one remotely using the Remote Desktop Connection. I have enabled the remote computer for remote logins but for some reason I cannot connect with it. I get the error message that the client could not connect to the remote session. I have 50 other computers on this network all set up the same way and have never had a problem. Everything seems to be configured exactly the same. I can ping the remote computer.
Here is my problem. I am logged in to a machine via remote desktop and another user with admin rights logs in via remote desktop and logs me off because they assumed that I had forgotten to log off or whatever else. Is there any permission setting either in group policy or elsewhere that would prevent a user attempting to connect via remote desktop from logging off an already logged on user? The problem is that both users are and need to be Admins.
My question concerns Remote Assistance (RA) vs. Remote Desktop (RD) to XP Pro desktops. Providing tech support, I am trying to see if anyone knows how to setup RD session I initiate to a Windows XP Pro OS to "share" sessions with the end user, other than via RA.
hi everybody.every since i install sp2 on my pc ,kazaa lite has a problem with connection.it keeps trying connecting but it reemains on trying, even if i let for 2 hours
We run a terminal server at my my workplace which runs Windows Server 2003 rc2.We use Remote Desktop The list of OS's is as follows Winxp pro, Winxp home Windows 2000, and some Windows Nt(Yeah i know its depressing). The problem im having is in most cases i can not print from a local machine while in remote desktop unless the printer is on an LPT prtiner port.I have the printer shared on every Local machine, Rdp is setup coreectly also but still no printy. The only thing i have not tried is installing the driver on the TS and then trying to install and bring over the printer while in RDP.
Ok, so I have netbook with a crack LCD, can not see anything..How the hack do I enable remote desktop without using it's local LCD..I need two things done, enable remote desktop and second enable dual monitor mode, so I can connect external monitor to VGA port
I shut down system restore and went into safe mode to clean out spyware, ect. In safe mode, spybot,i used ewiedo, smit, adware. i dont recall but i think spybot was the only program to find an item. When i rebooted in normal XP, i have been unable to connect IE6,Weatherbug,Widgets to my wireless connection. However Firefox is connecting pretty good, atlhough my wireless program is funny, its telling me there is no internet connection as i surf I tried 'internet options' such as resetting IE, i tried that scannow command. again, i dont have the system restore option to use. but also yahoo widgets are not connectiong nor weathebug.
I'm setting up my friends home network. They have 2 PCs connected via ethernet and one laptop on wireless. The router is a wireless router / modem from 2wire. PC number 2 and the laptop both connect with no issues. PC number 1 is weird though. I can go to 192.168.1.254 and it opens up the router system page and I can go through and change and view settings. However when I try to go to any websites it immediately goes to "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." I have tried netscape and the iTunes store and nothing can connect to the web. I have linux ubuntu on a Live CD and I can boot from that and it connects to the internet just fine.
