Cannot Configure Incoming Connections
Apr 4, 2004
I was trying to make a new connection by using the "Create a New Connection". I click on "Setup and Advanced Connection" and then I click next. Then I click on incoming connection and then I click next. Once I click next my computer freeze my computer for five to ten minutes and then gives me this error message. "Incoming Connection depends on the routing and remote access service which was unable to start. For more information, check the system events log". I don't know what to do. Before I reinstall windows XP, I thought one of you genius might have a better idea than reinstall windows again. I have received so much help from this newsgroup so I thought I asked before I go reinstalling anything.

I have been trying for a while to delete three broadband connections i seem to have made, but not enabled. They are located in the network connections dialog under the broadband heading. On top of this they keep asking me which server to connect to. When I try to delete them, it asks me if i want to send them to the recycle bin, I click yes, and then nothing happens, they don't go anywhere.

I have a Windows Installer splash screen that pops up upon a reboot and which flickers thereafter. It doesn't install anything, and I can't kill it by canceling it while it appears. It blocks incoming emails, (they hang up at 50% downloading) although sometimes when I reboot the problem doesn't start again for an hour or so. It's sporadic, but it never goes completely away. I thought I had found the solution on this thread here: , but installing the downloads didn't solve the problem. I have no idea what Windows Installer is trying to install. To make things more interesting, Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel only shows very recent software. And System Restore fails for anything more than about a week ago, when the problem first manifested itself. I've purchased and downloaded RegCure, Fix-it Utilities 8 Professional, and CounterSpy. Ive run AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Spyware Blaster. While my registry is clean, no malware found, and my computer is running faster, all these were of no help in getting rid of this popup.
When I reboot, which I often have to do out of the Windows Task Manager because the popup is flickering too fast to do it out of the Start Menu, I usually get an error message saying that ccApp can't be closed. It reboots anyway, and sometimes I get back into a reasonably manageable system, and sometimes I don't.It don't know if the problem is related to Norton 360, but the Icon in the systray blinks when the installer is really going ballistic. I would try to uninstall and reinstall Norton, but it's not listed in my Add/Remove Programs list anymore, along with most of my other programs.

First, my notebook has been working normally until yesterday afternoon. Windows XP Home Edition was installed by the manufacturer and was working properly. But yesterday, when I started up and logged on to my computer, and everytime since, Windows Installer automatically launches. It gives the message something like: "wait while Windows configures Windows XP." Then the installer asks me to to insert the Windows XP CD, which of course I don't have since Windows XP was factory installed on this notebook. I cancel the process and everything seems to work normally. Is there a way I can stop this from happening?

I have a very old Desktop computer which is now so old that it's only useful purpose is projects and goofing around. I just dumped both of the hard drives (Two IDE hard drives, both on the same bus) in the computer in order to reload a fresh version of Windows XP. The Setup seemed to go as planed, except that only one of the Hard drives is fully recognized (C:).. Everything is connected correctly, I can even see the other hard drive in the Device Manager. The Device Manager states that the device is working properly, however I can't access it, can't store anything to it, it doesn't even appear in the 'My Computer'.. The second drive is suppose to be the 'F:' drive, I know that this system will work because it worked before I dumped the hard drives.

We have a Windows 2003 server that contains files that need to be accessed by a collection of XP Pro clients. We initially set up mapped drives that connected these client computers to the server using a set of security credentials that matched user accounts on the server. These mapped drives "map" when the client logs into XP. Since the local login credentials on the client PCs don't match those on the server, we use "Connect using a different username" to use credentials residing in the Server userbase.

I have this one computer in my house that uses a Motorola wireless adapter to connect to an 802.11g network through a router. However, recently, the computer acted up. I reformatted it, and reinstalled the adapter software. However, i cannot access its control panel to configure any options. This i have no explanation for. I have no option to make windows use its own controls instead of the software's because i have no connection.

Whenever I try to download a different type of browser (one with tabs) other than using the old IE6, it works fine for a few hours, but the next morning, the browser isn't able to connect & display any type of page. I've already gone through this routine using Tablane, Opera, Firefox, and Flashpeak Slimbrowser. Also, I have tried to update my version of Internet Explorer to IE7, but that never will connect, not even fo a few hours. I always end up having to go back to a restore point before I can use IE again. So.... I have looked around for answers/solutions to this issue, but I'm not even really sure what I looking for.
This forum is my only hope-

Windows XP, using explorer, if you look at a list of files, and hover over a filename, Eplorer will display a yellow tooltip with file type, date modified, size, etc. The information seems to be related to the file type : .EXE files show different information in the tooltip than .DLL files. How can this be configured ? How can I tell Windows which information to show for which type of file? I'm using two different PC's, and one just stopped showing the "Date modified" in the tooltip. I'm looking for a way to restore that.

I've had something happen to my Windows XP Pro network connection properties. No matter what I do the under the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties it always defaults back to Obtain an IP address automatically. I'm trying to assign a static IP.I've been using this computer in a static IP mode for approximately 6 years. Monday all #$%^ breaks loose and I'm still trying to recover. The registry still holds the proper information, but for some reason everytime I view it from the properties tab it's back to auto.

I suppose the title of this post could be something like, "Why can't XP be more like Win98?"But seriously: I have in front of me a File View of My Computer. In Documents and Settings, it shows me that there are apparently four accounts: Administrator, All Users, Default User, and me In each one of these there is, in differing combinations, things like My Documents,My Music, Favorites.. And, in some there are what appear to be administrative privileges (Local Settings). The confusion this is causing while transferring documents and files from the old machine is getting up my nose! (This is a piecemeal exercise as the old PC is still working as the office - word processing, spreadsheets, etc.)

Is there a way to configure disk clean-up to not consider compressing old files as one of the alternatives? I don't consider file compression to be a useable feature and would like to eliminate it. It also adds greatly to the time it takes disk clean-up to run. What should be a relatively short task turns lengthy with this option enabled.

My son and I share an "Always On" Cable Internet connection through a 4-port hub and cable Network. I want the two computers to connect "locally" and share Files, printers and a scanner (without scarificing the internet sharing). My efforts on creating this connection were, so far, fruitless. Can someone point me in the right direction? As I am not technically inclined, "how-to" sites would be of great assistance.
