My CDRWDVD-R combo does not load or play cds only dvds. when I check the name it says DVD-R and plays only dvds. How can I fixed this it all happened when I tried to reinstall windows xp.
when i try to play news clips on msnbc.msn the player appears with the loading message at the bottom. it just sits there, but doesn't load and play the video. i can go to othe sites, ie, Internet, and it plays fine. i know this sounds like a missing codec, but it's hard to believe that ms wouldn't already have that codec loaded to play clips from msn. i can play them on my destop pc, winxp pro, wmp10, without additonal codecs. i upgraded the laptop to wmp11, but that didn't work, so i rolled back to wimp10.
The Plug & Play Software Device Enumerator is failing to load the required drivers. now i've done alot of searching and i've found a solution that worked for others uninstall Plug & Play Software Device Enumerator from the Device Manager find the 'machine.inf' file and copy it to your desktop open your copy of 'machine.inf' and delete the following (on line20)- ExcludeFromSelect=* then, Add new hardware. follow the steps until you see the Have Disk button click Have Disk and select 'machine.inf' from your desktop[not sure abt this step] if you need to, re-install your sound drivers
I can play music, but can't play music videos.I get this error message:Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the specified protocol is not supported. In the Open URL dialog, try opening the file using a different transport protocol (for example, "http:" or "rtsp:").I am also having problems with UPDATING Windows Media- I get a message saying I am missing some components. I cant go into the Microsoft updates webpage either- I get a message saying ''page cannot be displayed''
After suffering a powercut a few weeks ago and having my PC crash, then perform some weird changes on reboot, I was left with no alternative but to reformat my primary hdd and reinstall Windows XP Pro. Since then all my drive letters have altered, so now my system drive is no longer labelled 'C' but 'H'. I know how to change the other drive letters in the Disk Management console but because the C/H drive is the system drive that cannot be changed, I can live with that. However a more serious problem has occurred and I have tried all the usual remedies suggested by other, more knowledgable sources to fix it. The problem is I have lost access to my CDRW/DVD combo and DVDRW
my USB Ports on my laptop are very intermittent. I have my mouse/keyboard wireless combo plugged directly into the P4, WinXP system. I get the combo set detecting and undetecting constantly. I have re-installed the USB drivers, tried different ports, tested other devices. My device manager is perfect. Is it lack of power to the USB ports?
whenever I try to play music it doesnt play, it says low on memory, whenever I open any Microsoft Word program it gives me some error about a license, and whever I try to copy and paste anything, it doesnt let me. I have a few partitions on my hard drive and whenever I copy one file or a folder or anything, I cannot paste it anywhere. If I open Control Panel, the screen doesnt appear as usual, all the icons are on two columns on the lft side with a scroll bar next to them. If I try to open Add/Remove programs, it comes up all garbled. I was going to just reformat the whole computer but it will not boot from the cd rom drive now. And whenever the computer is booted in W2K and I try to browse the CD in My Computer, it just says "Please insert disk in drive...." Also, whenevr I restart, it sits on my desktop for about 5 minutes before it finally brings up the icons and everything. It has never done any of this, it just started this morning.
I have a couple thousand midi files broken into smaller folders. I click one to play with Media Player or there was a link that said PLAY ALL. That doesn't appear anymore and I have to keep selecting tunes each time one ends. I looked in the window drop downs but can't find how to bring back PLAY ALL.
First my computer was cutting off in the middle of any program. I decided to delete everything on the drive and reformat it and reload windows xp. While trying to load windows xp it would load the set up but when going to load files it locked up everytime. I tried also loading windows 98, 95 and they too locked up. At one point it said I had a virus in my boot sector and at another time it said I had a virus in my RAM. I got a program called PC Beginner to help partition my drive and redo the MBR. I can partition the drive and format it but windows still doesn't load. Now I wonder if there is a problem with the mother board and I have a dual bios board, I was wonder if there is a program loaded in the dual bios that may somehow causing my problem. If so what can be done to clear the problem? How can I get windows reloaded?
i have a problem with windows media player, whenever i try to play a video, it says play at the bottom left hand side of the screen but nothing plays, audio, or video, what do i do?
PC was rebooted and this message showed up. I couldn't get to safe mode so I put the XP disc in. I got to the D:winint dir and tried to run bootcfg to scan for the boot file. It came back that it couldn't find it. I was able to see the dir's and data on the 2 drives. I ran chkdsk to see if that would solve the problem, it didn't. Do you think this is a BIOS problem or a missing boot problem. If it was the BIOS would I be able to read the drive. Looking for a fix without destroying everything.
My computer randomly started displaying this error upon start up a week ago and I have no clue what is causing it. I googled it and seen that it could be caused by a linksys wireless router, one was installed on the system before, but has been uninstalled for quite some time now. Can anyone help me correct this or at least help me figure out what is causing it?
I was wondering what the difference was whether you had a program load at startup (by checking a box within the program to have it load when the computer boots) and unchecking that box but moving a shortcut to the programs executable into the startup folder on the start menu.
I copied a bunch of photos my granddaughter had taken to a CD. But I don't know how to open the CD so that I can be sure the photos are on it. I have Windows XP Home Edition. I'm not sure what else I need to tell you.
When I put a DVD in it will not play. No problem playing CD's. When I right click and try to open. Says please insert disk in drive when there is a DVD in drive. Have already tried system restore. I also rebooted my computer. Still not working. P.S. I just recently ran an update for a software program. Could that have anything to do with this problem?
When I was installing Windows XP SP3 on this computer, I received a notice that the installer couldn't find a specific file, but I was able to skip over it and resume installation. I received this notice when I installed Windows on another machine but this time looked it up and was able to find the file on the CD (don't remember the file name.). On the first computer, it seems like a lot of plug and play functionality doesn't work..specifically when I hook up my Creative Zen (MP3 player) or even Blackberry. I am unable to transfer files to or from these devices through Explorer like I can the other computer in which I did a thorough installation of Windows. I am also unable to update Windows Media Player, which could or could not be related. Is it possible the file I skipped over is what's causing this issue? Is there any way I can repair Windows or do I have to re-install?
I am on CMT.COM and when I go to the video section to watch a video the commercial will play but when it gets to the video it will not play all it says on the player is ready.

I have deleted the driver and restarted the computer.I was unable to update the driver, I have the best one now.I am running windows xp sp2.It says the device is working properly, location is 0(0).
My computer has so many problems right now i don't know what the deal is.The speakers won't play, it won't let you burn on to blank CDs anymore and everytime you restart the computer my documents automatically comes up. There are so many problems. Here is the hijack this file, i don't know if it's the up to date version though.
I'm not sure where to ask this because I'm not sure what's causing it. I have a fresh install of XP Pro in an old machine running an Athlon XP 3000+ on an ASUS A7V8X MB with 1.25G of memory. Bios & drivers are current. Every time I launch a DVD the system freezes completely. I can open the viewer, either VLC or WMP but as soon as the DVD begins to open it freezes. The CPU is not overclocked and the machine runs OK otherwise.
I just tried playing dvds on my dvd drive and nothing's happening. Real Player is telling me that I don't have a dvd drive and when I try playing dvds via InterActual I'm getting the message: 'Error PL4013: Playback failed due to a problem with the video subsystem. You may be using an unsupported display mode or your system may not have a working decoder installed. Please ensure that your DVD decoder is functioning properly by launching it from Start/Programs. I've tried playing cds and there are no problems. This has only just started happening.
Well I have just got an Ipaq h5550. I can't get the Installation CD to work. Auto play wont work. I've tried right-clicking and clicking the Autoplay but nothing happens. The only thing I can do is right-click open. The CD opens up the files but no Auto play. I've been into properties and everything seems to be fine. I tried the CD on my laptop and it worked fine, but on my Desktop all I get is a.'popup blocked by Google Toolbar message even though internet explorer isn't even open! Question: why is google blocking the CD? Strange don't you think?
