Looking for a simple virus scan that does not have all of those little programs and safe guards that run in the background. I'm just looking for something I can run once a month or so to make sure I don't have a virus or spyware est.
Useing windows XP, SP2 lots of ram. Have both AVG anti-virus and also Avast anti-virus plus a CCleaner. Run one program one week, run other program next week.Run CCleaner every week. My question is" is there any advantage to use these programs in a "safe mode" instead as a normal program. And if so, whats the advanatge?
I am using AntiVir Guard, is there something else more reliable?I am just curious on what anyone can suggest.I used to use McAfee, but then a common problem that a lot of people have been getting apparently. So it not only crashed my pc when it went out of whack it got so bad that i couldn't even get to the uninstall menu, it would kinda show...so i finally had formated my main hard drive, and completely wiped it out and fixed it. So for now I am just using a nice free antivirus program...Does anyone have a suggestion of maybe a safer one? Maybe something that would pick up on more virus protection.
because both Windows (XP) and Internet Explorer have really slowed down during the last several days. I have updated and used AVG, Spybot S&D and Webroot's Spy Sweeper but have found no virus or spyware infestation.
This is prob an oldie you get sick of answering, but I've tried to use my windows xp discs to reformat my sony laptop to get rid of everything. The problem is things like Norton antivirus and other programs stay on there. How can I get rid of everythingand start from scratch?
It got infected with Windows Police Pro. After disabling that, there are several 'remnants' left over. The only way I can run any spyware/malware removal programs is to install it fresh. The program(s) will open, then it'll shut down 2 seconds into the scan. It even shuts down my registry cleaner as soon as it begins to clean (after it finds all the errors). All these programs simply terminate themselves. It does this in SafeMode as well.
When go into safe mode, all the desktop icons don't always appear and that makes the reason I went into safe mode unworkable. Is there some way I can get all the desktop icons to appear in the safe mode? I'm trying to run one of my software programs from the desktop. I also wanted to install some software in the safe mode and when the setup icon didn't appear I was unable to do the install.
I own a Dell GX270 (the one with the bad Motherboards) and would like to take the Hard Drive from this bad bad machine and install it on my other (Similar, but actually working) Dell (OPTIPLEX 160) as a Second Hard Drive. The Hard Drive from the defective PC obviously has all my valuable programs on it, some of which antiques that I love using for work. Both computers have identical Operating systems (XP-Pro)
My questions are:
Will I be able to run programs directly from the old (now second) Hard Drive? If not, what is the safest way to merge the individual program's registry entries with the registry on the drive which actually operates the machine
That is my simple question...How it was name safe mode? is it really safe?what happens during safe mode as compared to normal mode and all of the experts suggest to do these(scanning, running, etc) in the safe mode?can files be affected in this mode?
I was checking my daughters pc for some usual maintenance. The start programs on list suddenly dont open, computer freezes up, did the error-checking but I cannot seem to get some vital prgrams to open up. I am running a couple of recent worm tools from Symantec and so far, nothing. Could this be a hardware problem or can someone tell me something I am missing?
i have windows xo sp3.i had avira antivir premium installed on my PC. then i installed mcafee 8.5i. i updated the same to the latest version but my windows security alert keeps on telling me that you have no antivirus installed on your pc.it doesnt detect it at all.then again i removed it and again installed avira but still the system is showing the same security alert.
I am stingy and don't want to get another antivirus subscription for my gaming set up that i just built. How can i configure so that antivirus software in my current computer will reliably protect my gaming set up when logged on the net.
I am trying to decide to use either Grisoft's AVG AntiVirus (Free version) or AVAST AntiVirus. Which of these two are better?
I had Norton AntiVirus 2004 Professional on my system, but Symantec refuses to reactivate it. I had a computer replaced (case/power supply, motherboard, and UPS) due to a lightning strike and now I cannot reactivate or use Norton AntiVirus 2004.
I reinstalled Windows XP. For some reason, all of my old programs show up in Windows Explorer, but not in the Start Menu or in Control Panel/Add Remove Programs. Is there a way to fix this?
I am running win xp pro sp2 and have just installed norton antivirus 2005. NAV recommends i use it instead of windows for my default firewall protection. should i turn off the windows firewall and rely just on the norton antivirus, which checks for worms, trojan horeses, etc by default or run both
I've gone through all the microsoft fixes(??) and they haven't worked. Also, when I try to hibernate the machine if any programs are running it will say I don't have enough memory (I have 2GB in a Gateway 506GR, Pentium 4, 3400 Mhz running XP Home Edition). I run NOD32 antivirus.
The machine seems like it is running hard all the time but the CPU usage is usually only around 2 or 3 %. I'm thinking about putting in a larger hard drive and starting over completely. I backup pretty well (although not always often enough).
i got and error in my Mcaffe that asked my to reinstall the program, I've tried but always got an error.I've tried to install "sSpybot - Search & Destroy" the installation was good but i as i wanted to run the program i got "seraching for SpybotSD.exe" box Msg. , i checked the folder and nothing, not EXE file downloaded it againg and install it againg and nothing..I've ran the windows repair stuff "sfc /scannow" and nothing really cheanged, and "ad-aware" didnt find anyhthing as well.so right now i cant install any program - always the EXE is been deleted and cant run the anti-virus program as well?

I need some real help here because I am baffled. I installed Panda Titanium antivirus 2005 on my bosses computer. When I went to restart it after the install it wouldn't restart it would get stuck at the blue welcome screen. Tried booting it into safe mode and it wouldn't even boot there. So finally I had to use the Windows XP disk and do a recovery. Well when I did that she lost all of her applications. I had to reload Office, Adobe, and it said that the Panda Antivirus was not installed correctly. So I tired to reinstall it and I get an error of Class not registered.I hoping not to have to do format and reinstall Windows Xp but I think there is some corruption in the computer.
I bought a new laptop a week ago and it came with Windows XP Home Edition. It also came with Norton AntiVirus already installed on it. I dislike Norton AntiVirus and decided to manually uninstall it. I went into regedit and deleted all Symantec and Norton files. Except for one file it wouldn't let me delete.A few days later (after I had no trouble installing such games as Starcraft, Blockland and Endless-Online) I tried to install The Sims, Lego Creator and some older games onto my computer from CD's. I got this message when attempting to install them
I absolutely hated Symantec which took a crap on me when a virus hit it and made it go whacky. I want to buy the software. What are your opinions and experiences with anti-virus software?
1. I am encountering a problem of Your system has recoverd from a serious error a log of this error has been created. It says that your antivirus or firewall is creating a problem. I am using AVG free 8 and ZoneAlarm free fire wall. 2. ZoneAlarm popup fequently says Prevalance reporter is trying to access the internet. Application is avgcmgr.exe. Should I allow or deny.
I have an eMachines T1150,1.3 GHZ Celeron Processor, with Windows XP.After probably picking up a trojan,or worse, somewhere,I did a system reboot with the restore cd.Then, with a dial-up modem,I downloaded EVERYTHING I was supposed to have, according to Bill Gates, from MS...XP Rollback gold,XP Service pack 2,etc.I mean everything...spent about 12 hours on-line yesterday doing it.Thank God for college football! This morning I go to Download.com and load the AVG Antivirus freeware, directly from the site. After it downloaded,I went to continue the install, and it froze.
I disconnected the power source, after waiting for 10 mins.,and when I turned it back on,XP would not load, not even by going back to "last configuration".Having to shut off the power to turn it off,so I could turn it back on,I now get a black screen, with "Operating system not found".I know, the solution is to go Linux, but I'm just not that savvy yet.In the meantime, does anyone have any ideas?
i'd jst like to know if eTrust EZ Antivirus (and also its Anti-Spyware and Anti-Spam) is a good option or not for regular use. And also is it a safer bet over Norton? have used it for barely 12 hours, so have no clue as to what its like.I know that Norton majorly slows down the PC and like tht but so far thats what im the most comfortable with. Ive used McAfee twice, for 2 months or so each time. It has let me down both the times, so looking for options apart from Norton. THough heavy on the system, i think its th best. Also, could someone help me with my graphics driver (+ virus) problem? posted the problem yesterday, emtronics has done his best to help me out but not much has really improved.. so if anyone else could also chip in and help me out.
