View 9 RepliesI have a 256gb ssd installed on my laptop and I recently had installed Ubuntu partition on it and ended up removing it. I have instead reinstalled a fresh copy of Windows 8. However I see no other partition during the installation processing and it's saying I only have 238gb available not my disk's full 256gb. So far I tried chkdsk and disk management and it failed to see any other used space.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows 8 Pro on a GPT partition. I have 234GB of SSD with 87% free space according to Disk Management. I am trying to create a 4GB primary partition for Intel Rapid Start but the Disk Part shows i have no space available in that drive and would not let me create the partition. Why would that be?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows 8 x64. I have a few software applications and one or two IDE's installed in drive C(system drive where my Windows is installed). Now my C partition is of 68 GB now suddenly I am seeing that almost all the space in drive C has ben used up and I am only left with ~6 GB of free space. Now when I am in drive C and select all the files and folders and check what is the space that it all takes up, the size returned is only 43.3 GB(check the attachment sc_shot1). But when I view C drive from MyComputer I only get ~6GB of free space shown to me(check the attachment sc_shot2). So if all the files and folders in C only take up 43.3 GB where is the rest of the 68.3 - 43.3 =25 GB. Am I being attacked by a virus or worm ?? I am using a licensed copy of QuickHeal Internet Security 2013 and I have scanned drive C with it, it reports no infections. I have also tried using the "cleanmgr" utility and clear up some space by deleting temporary files, but that at max gives me back ~1GB of free space.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just installed a pretty clean install of Windows 8 Pro (I used the upgrade, but I did the upgrade immediately over top of a clean windows 7 install). It is installed on an intel SSD. I haven't installed any applications or added any documents, or files. However, when I go to file explorer and right click on my drive it shows that I've used 69GB of space on the SSD! That's after doing disk cleanup and removing the previous windows files and temporary upgrade files. I couldn't believe Windows was taking up 69GB, so I investigated further. If I select the drive in file explorer and then select every folder displayed, and then right click and select properties, then it only comes up as about 13GB. Is there a known problem with Windows 8 computing space useage on SSD drives?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 200 gig partition on 1 drive that I have dedicated for games. But now it is filled, and even after shrinking my C drive to make space, I find that I still cannot extend my games partition. I've done a little reading and it appears that the issue is due to the free space not being directly beside the Games partition. I'm not sure, exactly, all I know is, I want to install more games and this technicality is preventing it.
Another thing that makes the situation more complex is that I have 2 other partitions on my drive that belong to Linux Mint. One is the main Mint partition, the other is a swap partition (similar to the page/swap file in Windows). I'm hesitant to try to mess around with moving those partitions since I'm not very experienced with Linux and if it doesnt boot I know I'll just reinstall it instead of trying to fix it. But I would like to avoid that in the first place.
I have tried with Disk Management, EaseUS, Paragon, Partition Wizard and GParted in Linux but they all wont let me make the games partition bigger, only smaller.
What I would like to do is to find a way to add free space to the Games partition, but without deleting other partitions or having to reinstall Linux. And more importantly, figuring out how to handle this kind of thing now so that I wont have issues extending partitions in the future. I also just figured I would say that I've converted the Games partition from primary to logical, due to the limitation of 4 primary partitions on a drive (maybe I'm wrong , but that's what I've heard). I say this because I recently had 4 primaries before trying to install Mint and Ubuntu, and neither of them would let me install. But as soon as I reduced to 3 primaries the issue went away and I was allowed to proceed. I figured that out after a bit of reading.
It is possible to move partitions on a disk so that they will be adjacent (either to the left or right) to another partition that needs to be extended?
I'm also posting a screenshot to make it easier for people to understand. The 36 gig partition is Linux's main partition, and the 15 gig partition to the right of it is Linux's swap partition. The pic also shows that both of those lie between the C drive and my games.
I recently have updated my Windows from the Windows 7 to Windows 8. After the updating, everything is going well, except one thing. The C drive space becomes really low. There is only 5% of free space left. So, I come here and want to find a solution for me to expand my C drive spaces on Windows7.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI noticed yesterday when I tried to install Adobe Creative Suite that my new SSD C: drive was only showing around 50GB of free space left, when I know that there should be around 130GB left.
I installed TreeSize. Here's a screen shot.
There's 96.3GB in a "DUDownload" folder which is inside a hidden folder. The largest file is 94.6GB(!!!) "Reserved.DynamicUpdate"
I'm thinking it could be the update to Windows 8.1 (which I've postponed a couple of times) but nearly 100GB for an update seems a bit much...
I'm running Windows 8, clean installed about 2 weeks ago onto a brand new SSD. I want my space back!
I have a computer running windows 7 now that has 5 drives (3x2TB and 2X3TB) that act as my home media storage center. I have TV shows split between 3 drives and movies on 2 drives. When I access these from other applications, it can be hard to group everything together and if I run out of space somewhere, it is a nightmare.
Win 8 pro x64 is on it's way, but wanted to know how to set up Storage Space. I have looked through the tutorials, but cannot figure out how to set my system up, if I have media in different spots.
Do I create 1 Storage Space and all 5 drives are in it then I just have to point to if from my other applications to get to the data? Do I create a storage space for each type of media (music, TV shows, Movies, etc.)? When I add a drive to a storage space, how do I get it to include the files within the storage space and not just use the "empty" drive space?
I am not looking for redundency protection, but to make my handling of data across all the drives easier (e.g. "Did I put my Futurama series on drive 1 or 2...Did South Park make it on to one drive or did I have to split it up?)
Actually my C drive on VMware and we have only one drive for work. C drive size is 80 GB and windows folder using 25 GB of it so could not able to work. I have an SSD machine with 90 Gbytes of storage running at home, not connected to server. I use a USB drive for extra capacity but I seldom have much spare space on C: as I have SQL server and Visual Studio installed. Looking at storage use on C: I notice 1.7 Gbytes of files in C:UsersSimonAppDataRoaming. Can I delete these as I use my login on only one computer at home? Roaming profiles are not enabled.
There are also 1.9 GBytes of files on C:UsersAll Users. I believe All Users is used for creating profiles for new users and All Users contains folders corresponding to those in C:Programs and C:Programs (x86). Can I delete any folders with programs that wouldn't be needed by any new accounts I might create?
My taskbar with toolbars: address, desktop, links etc becomes just empty blue space after PC was idle. nothing on it and I have to restart to be able to get it back again. Also. in that "state" I can choose application from Start screen but it does not open. Just show on that empty taskbar. When I click it, little picture of it pop up above taskbar but it can only be closed. Nothing shows as open on Alt+F4 or in upper left corner, even when I open or better say click on all aps on Start screen. All I pinned on taskbar disappears also.

I've been using Windows 8 CP for about 3 months now, and I'm a bit shocked that my 100Gb partition is almost full. Take note that I have a separate partition for multimedia files other than for OS. I'm also running Win7 on a separate drive and so far it has only taken up around 40+Gb in a span of a little over a year. So I wonder, does Windows 8 really take up that much space really fast? is it normal? I've already done cleaning up the disk, deleted unused update files, deleted as much trash files I could find.. But still, all I could free is <10gb of space.
Is there any other way I could free more space? Is there something wrong with my Windows 8? Or is it really normal that it takes up space that fast?
I found a partition tool which allows you to allot free space from one partition to another, but I'm not yet sure whether to use it or not. I guess I just need to hear other people's opinion first.
I moved to a Samsung tablet core I5 with Windows 8 Enterprise and I have to survive with very low capacity SSD drive. After Windows 8 Intallation, O13 installation, and a strict minimum of corporate applications, I'm left with less than 21 gig available space for my files ... It was already hard with a 128 gig SSD, things have just gone worst. I do not plan to plug an external hard drive all the time ...
1) I added a microSD drive of 32 gig, but... I cannot add up this drive to any Library (documents, pictures, video or music),how to force the system to accept the microSD as "permanent drive"
2) I need a cloud / server cache system that would enable "partial sync" for offline files (not always connected to Internet)
3) Any search tool to recommend that is also searching emails since Windows 8 doesn't search into Outlook files ost and pst (W7 did this)
Have you found that the hard space of your computer was gradually eaten up by all the files you unlikely know? If you’re haunted a lot by such a problem and want to stop it, you just need to download Colorful Disk Clean and totally relax yourself. Colorful Disk Clean will scan all the folders or files and recover the disk space whenever you want.
The color-coded sunburst map clearly displays both the hierarchical structure of files and folder and the relative size of each. What’s the most important, with a simple drag and drop, you can remove all the system files and other items that you no longer need.
My K partition is of 24.3GB and says that only 3.80GB is free.
However in reality, the data inside is worth only 14.3GB which means 10GB should be free, not 3.80GB.
What could be the problem? I have attached the screenshot too.
Even though there are no hidden files in this partition, I enabled 'View Hidden Items'. And the size is indeed 14.3GB only. So I wonder where my remaining 6.20GB is going!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Win 8 Pro 64-bit version for the first time.
Previously I had Win 8 Pro 32-bit installed. There was an internal 250 GB SATA HDD connected as a secondary drive. No partitions. It showed me like 150 mb or so free in that.
Today I installed Win 8 64-bit. And when I connected that 250 GB drive as secondary, it showed me around 800 mb free.
My questions is- the extra free space where did it come from? is it due to 64-bit version of the OS installed now?
After installing Windows 8 on my main partition C, it is getting nearly full. So, I just have tried to merge some free space from Partition F in Disk Management. But, that doesn't work. Some people tell me that is because the free space is not adjacent to my C partition. I don't know whether it is right. I simply want to extend my C partition successfully.

I have 16GB of unallocated space in front of System Reserved. I was wondering if there is a way to move the System Reserved to the front. I've used GParted before and I'm guessing I am going to have to make a backup of the C drive and then move it around. (and I know, only 10MB free on C drive. )
