View 1 Replies View RelatedBefore installing my new Sound Blaster ZxR I had to temporarily use the Onboard Sound of my Asus Rampage IV Black Edition because of a SLI Water cooling component blocking the necessary PCI Port of the former Sound Card ( a Sound Blaster Recon3D Fatal1ty Professional ).
Because of the cracking ( grounding loop? ) I receive during the startup when using 3.5mm jacks ( or 1/4" with the ZxR ) I stopped using them whenever possible and instead started using the Toslink connection on both the Recon3D AND the RIVBE as it electrically disconnects the PC from the Sound System.
Now here comes the Problem: Using the new Sound Blaster ZxR and having it connected via Toslink to my Sound System I'm not able to control the Volume using.. Multimedia Keys on my KeyboardVolume Mixer from the TaskbarEven Muting isn't possible
The only way to change the Volume level from now on has been by doing one of the following four.. Change the Volume level by Hand in the corresponding App itself, not the overall System Volume - Kind of sucksUsing the Hardware Dial on my Speaker System - Hard to reachSwitch from Toslink to Jacked Cables - Startup cracking
Also
Switching the default Playback Device from Speakers to Digital Audio (S/PDIF) - Will cause me to loose the ability to run Encoders like Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect and it's DTS Neo:PC Music Mode feature which, in my opinion, really improves my listening experience as it then uses all my Satellites, not just the front ones.
I'm not sure how my settings were while still using the Recon3D that allowed me to go Toslink while still being able to change the System Volume simply by using the Multimedia Keys of the Keyboard.

View 5 Replies View Related I am wondering if there is a way that I can use the normal windows file browser when I'm uploading files from a web browser like chrome. I don't mind the metro style UI for file browsing, but it really doesn't work well for when I need to search large amounts of files and things like that.
So basically, let's say I'm in chrome. I click upload from a website -- that takes me to the metro style file browser. I want to go to the windows style browser.
I have a FB page where I want to upload pictures and post them in a group.
When I opload them he will give an error or it looks like I'm uploading 646 pic's....
I'm totally new with Windows 8.1 ,before I had 7.
After a week of using both on and offline WIN 8 like clockwork slows down after a week, there are have run multiple virus and malware checks and nothing, task manager shows normal with only 28% memory use, programs running are minimal, no unusual hard disk accessing, defrag is run every two days and again performance falls dramatically both online and offline.
The only way to get performance back has been to do a system REFRESH, but once a week is NUTS!
This is a Windows 8 certified Gateway laptop with 2.20 ghz Pentium processor and 8 gigs of ram.
I am on an i7-12gb RAM+SSD Asus laptop, running Windows 8 x64. I am using two external HDDs attached via USB. One is an external-powered 2TB 3.5" WD, and the other is a 1TB 2.5" 5400 rpm Matshita HDD.
I store my music and movie collection in these drives, and a few setup files for the programs that I use.My problem is, from time to time when I boot up my computer, I start my browser, Word, iTunes, even Snipping Tool, etc. or when I need access to some function in a program (e.g. language proofing in Word, some function in Photoshop CS6, etc) my laptop randomly needs to access one, or both of my external drives and read something from there. I hear the whirring sound from the HDD and then my laptop starts responding again. This does not happen all the time, but it happens frequently enough to spoil a good workflow a few times during the day.
My external HDD's are slow in access times, and the 2TB WD actually shuts itself off after a non-use period and takes 6-7 seconds to turn back on.
So this translates into me randomly waiting for 6-7 seconds while using my laptop.
This case has been the same since using Windows 7 and through a few fresh installs.
I want these two HDD's to just store my files and not interfere with my OS' working.
I had been running windows 8 for a while, and within the last month I installed a new video card (Nvidia EVGA GTX560ti), and a new SSD (OCZ vertex 4 256GB). While still running Windows 8, I had been playing games, doing a lot of photoshop work....and other various CPU intensive things. I was editing photos one day in photoshop CS5 , and I noticed that the program became somewhat slow all of the sudden (basic tasks that used to be very quick and painless). The program eventually became unresponsive and had to reboot the computer. Upon restart I got all sorts of "boot drive errors", and unreadable boot disk errors.
However, these errors only seem to happen randomly. I checked my CPU core temps, and while doing the regular work I do on the computer, all 4 cores averaged about 92 degrees Celsius! I ran a virus scan, for something unrelated, and I checked the temps and they were spiking 98 to 100 Celsius!!!! While im just using the computer regularly they settle around 65-70. But if I do ANYTHING slightly intensive, I could probably cook dinner on my heatsink. I guess my main question is WHY am I getting boot errors, and why do they seem to happen randomly. I suppose the motherboard could be fried, im really not sure. This happened in the past, and reinstalled windows 8. After a couple days, same story. I'm almost positive this is a hardware thing. My first priority is of course to lower the CPU temps however I can.
If I left my memory at stock speed (1333 MHz) my internet speed is normal (around 390-450 KB/s). But once I overclock it with XMP (2400 MHz @10-12-12-31 2T), it drops down to 30-60 KB/s. The internet speed will also back to normal if reduce the clock and timing to 2133 MHz @9-11-10-28 2T.
My motherboard is on qualified list by G.SKILL to run this memory on XMP profile (G.SKILL- World leading DDR3 computer memory and SSD manufacturer -Products) and I ran Prime95 Blend and 3DMark11 Physics test just fine.
I user FTP & Telnet a lot to connect to devices on our LAN.
With Windows 8 I've been using ZoneAlarm as my firewall as I found Windows Firewall caused a 5 -10 second delay in every FTP / Telnet Connection.
Last night I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and ZoneAlarm no longer works, so I'm back with the Windows Firewall and the delay in connections.
I've ensured the APPS I use have access via the firewall and they do connect and work fine... but after establishing the connection there is a 5 - 10 second delay in the connection. With ZA this was all instant..
I use start 8 on both my windows 8.1 desktop and my tablet. My internet speeds were okay, but I wanted more. Based on the speed tests that I ran, it appeared to me that I was on Comcast's performance starter getting download speeds of 7.37mbps and uploads of 15.65. So I called Comcast to see about an upgrade. The tech that I spoke with stated that I already had the faster that they offer. He asked me how many icons did I have near the start button, I had 5, he told me to unpin them from the taskbar and my speeds went to DL - 57.48, the upload stayed pretty much the same 15.64.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using Windows 8.1 desktop (Dell 8700) for a little more than 6 months. I am very happy with its performance. The computer is very fast. But here is one hitch. As all of you might know that the original SkkyDrive was converted into OneDrive during Microsoft auto-updating process. OneDrive is the one supposed to be used.
Right now, I see both SkyDrive and OneDrive folders in the computer (even in my Windows 7 computers). There is no SkyDrive in "Uninstall program". So I could not remove the SkyDrive folder. Just "delete" SkyDrive folder" does not work either. Because of this problem, I was not able to study how to use OneDrive.
What is interesting to me is that SkyDrive seems to be still active and OneDrive, dormant. For example, c:UsersusernameOneDrivePicturesCamera Roll is active. The Camera Roll folder in the SkyDrive shows all pictures taken today with iPhone. On the other hand, OneDriveCameral Roll folder has a few old pictures.
how to get rid of the SkyDrive and force OneDrive as an active Cloud storage?
I've just worked with a friend set up his new Windows 8.1 Asus desktop. When we open the OneDrive folder using File Explorer, next to each file it says "Online only". On his old Windows 8 computer, it says "Available offline" next to each file. Is there someplace we need to change a setting to make the files available offline on the new computer?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhat is the purpose of the OneDrive Folder under C:UserMynameOneDrive? I know I can save files directly to OneDrive (in the cloud) or I can move/copy stuff to the OneDrive in the cloud. OneDrive then Syncs the cloud stuff to the User OneDrive folder. What's the point? Just a backup or does Windows 8.1 use the Synced information on the local machine (C:UserMynameOneDrive) to speed up processing and then Sync it back to the Cloud? I think I like it but just want to understand what is going on. Is there a "white" paper or something that explains in a little more detail, some link. Also, does it then make sense to include the OneDrive folder in the Library so that it gets backed up using Windows 8.1's File History function?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI really like the onedrive PC feature from Microsoft. It allows to upload my work files seamlessly. But I do not want other PC users (different user accounts on the same computer) to access that folder. I know they might not be able to view the files but I also don't want them to see the content inside the folder.
Can it be done with the same old 'folder permission' settings? If yes, how to do that?
Until the other day my drive was working perfectly. Since then I have made no changes to the system, but syncing has stopped. The drive icon constantly says checking for changes and then appears to crash. It has also started "finding files" and i am unable to change options to view online of offline while "setup is being completed" the trouble is it never completes... I can add docs etc from the web and it will sync on other PCs but my win 8.1 tablet refuses to play ball. I have spoken with Microsoft and they want me to pay for the solution (maybe). I have tried the troubleshooter but no luck.

I've been using Onedrive since it was skydrive under windows 7 , now that I am on 8.1 update 1 pro x64 I am still using it but recently I've come across with a problem.
The onedrive tray icon says that onedrive is starting up all the time , no matter what I am doing e.g. : syncing or adding files and the icon remain the same like in the picture.
I have two Onedrive folders under my User files. One is uploaded to the cloud the other appears to do nothing. I started using 32 bit Windows 8.1 on the same machine then installed the 64 bit using the same microsoft username/email. Is it possible to determine which Onedrive folder is active and get rid of the other without losing any files both offline and online?

View 1 Replies View RelatedJust bought a Windows 8 tablet, and not knowing anything about it. Specifically what we were trying to do today was sync his documents from his desktop to the tablet. OneDrive seemed the easiest way to do that, so I installed the OneDrive app on his desktop and logged him in on the tablet. And there were the files. But the problem is, they're on the cloud, and he wants to be able to access them offline.
Through googling, I discovered that there is supposed to be an option in OneDrive to "make all files available offline," supposedly accessible through the Charms bar, under Settings -> Options. But alas, I followed all the directions everywhere, and that option was not there. I took an appropriate screenshot:
Similarly, there is no option to "make available offline" when I access options for individual documents within OneDrive (by swiping up or down).
Why is this option not where it is supposed to be?
I disabled all of the OneDrive sync settings on my PC and checked the Startup programs, still OneDrive icon shows. How to get rid of this?
