I have Windows 8 Pro 64-bit installed on Fujitsu tablet (Q702). I want to install a folder in the Windows dir, but even though I am System Administrator, I can't do it. Permissions appear to be OK, but they are greyed out and cannot be changed. I have googled and searched, but nothing workss.
View 3 RepliesI cannot get the touch keyboard or picture password to come up consistently at logon screen. I had to go to services to make the touch-service work with desktop and logon (it was unchecked). Now, at fresh start-up or restart I can get the keyboard by touch but will not get it again if I log off and log back on. And under no conditions do I get the picture password option although I have a picture set up for it.

I use O&O Disk Image 7.2 to make images of my Windows 8 drive. Occasionally I need to mount an image to access folders and files. One folder I can't access is my user folder. I get the message 'You don't currently have permission to access this folder.' I took ownership of the folder but that didn't work. I get a similar result for the folder "C:WindowsCSC" if you want to see how my user folder behaves.
How can I access my user folder on my mounted image?
I just noticed an random folder on my desktop that I didn't create called backups. Is there any programs that automatically do this, I haven't installed anything recently on my computer
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a 1TB HDD connected via the network. 90% of the folders on this drive are fine, but a few were created by previous Windows installs.
I needed to delete the folder but it won't let me do so. I've tried fiddling with the security settings but they wont "stick". See the attached for what I mean.
I can't do anything with this folder. I can rename the folder, but everything inside the folder and the folder itself cannot be removed.
A few days ago I decided to encrypt a folder of pictures. I decided to do this so that the pictures would stop showing up in that pictures app window, so that only I could access said pictures, and because I wanted to know how encryption worked. So far, the pictures continue to show up in my pictures app and nobody can access the file, and I now want to just move the pictures to an external drive. However, I can't find the file (it disappeared upon encryption) and so I can't decrypt it in order to move it. How do I find the file for decryption? (I have the key, just can't find the door, so to speak)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am struggling to set the Task Scheduler in Win 8.1 to set a daily Restore Point and also to schedule Windows Defender to automatically update itself then run a full scan at a specified time daily. When I try to program the Win Defender function, I find that when I select the Win Defender folder from the left pane library, the resulting right pane contains no "Windows Defender Scheduled Scan" folder, so resulting settings seem to have no effect.
There are two other tasks listed in that right pane - one about cache maintenance and the other about verification (whatever that means), how to get Task Scheduler to work. I don't want to have to download another anti-virus program, but looks I'll have to if I can't get this thing to work. Of course, the inability to get a daily Restore Point may be an even bigger problem with this Task Scheduler, but I'm starting with Defender.
There is a folder left over from an uninstalled product called "Symantec". When I attempt to delete this, I get the message "You require permission from SYSTEM to make changes to this file". Clicking the "Try Again" button does nothing and the same message reappears.
I have tried to take ownership of the file through Properties > Security > Advanced, however, I get this error:
"An error occured while applying security information to (file path). Failed to enumerate objects in the contianer. Access is denied."
I have also tried to use an elevated command prompt to run the takeown command on this directory, however, get the "Access is denied." message for all files.

o.k. long story short before installing 8.1.1 in my real environment i tested it out extensively in vm. i found out that if you get past a certain point with the windows updates bitdefender will not install, if you install bd prior to a certain point it installs and works great even after you do the rest of the windows updates. How to get it installed and working correctly in a fully updated 8.1.1? i have eset smart security in, but i'd rather have my bitdefender.

The same gamepad work ok in nexus 7 tablet. Perhaps I need some kind of drivers? In control panel I don't see "gamepad" or something like this, as I see in pc.

Was thinking of modding the skin of windows 8 to make it look like mac os x. It seems like mac os x desktop is more touchscreen friendly,as in everything is accessible easily. Making the desktop bigger/up font just makes it look too big.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI got a Venue 8 Pro and have been playing around with it. The keyboard itself is nice, but it's not autocorrecting anything. It shows the normal squiggly red underline when I misspell a word. This makes typing on it really difficult compared to my other mobile devices.
I checked if it was enabled in the settings (Modern UI), and it is. The switch is gray, but I can switch it on and off.
I did an update right after getting the tablet and it still doesn't work. I've tried rebooting a couple of times.

After I installed updates today my Dell Latitude 10 Windows 8 tablet and restarted it started to require a password on start up. I went to "run" and typed in "netplwiz" and got to the "User Accounts" window. The problem is that there is no "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box. Is there another way to remove the password from start up?

Tablet Model is ASUS VivoTab Smart ME400C-C2.
It came originally with Windows 8 32bit. I was wanting to know if there is a possibility of doing this with a Windows 8.1 Disc.
Now I know there is a way to hook up a portable optical drive with a cable called a USB OTG.
I was told by ASUS though i would not be able to boot from the optical drive like a PC or Laptop could and to be able to boot from this OS disc so i can do the install this way.
So is there is a way maybe by making a disc. image and putting it on it's MicroSD or running it directly from the disc, i am not sure how this would work wanting to do a custom install.
Question is there any differences with the Windows 8 OS on the tablet now, compared to the OS on the disc usually used for a PC or Laptop ?
Where is the Windows 8 Product Key location on a Latitude 10 Tablet? I looked in the shipped documentation, the back of the machine and under the battery and did not see it. Is the Win8 product key published anywhere on my system?

I set up some rules in the local security policy some time ago when there was fuss in the news about the cryptolocker virus. They looked a lot like the rules above (I found that screenshot online as I can't take one myself, read on..)
Today I was installing some software that wanted access to the areas I restricted. I temporarily disabled the rules, then re-enabled them. Being a dumbass I also set the top two rules (which are Windows default rules) to Disallowed!
Over the following 10 minutes various aspects of my PC stopped working, telling me that the local security policy prevented access. I couldn't even get into the Control Panel or the Local Security Policy screen to change it back, once I realised what I had done. I rebooted the machine - it won't come back up
I've tried a system restore by booting from the installer on USB (which did not work, it grumbled that it could not restore due a file locked by anti-virus) so I think I've got two options:
Refresh my system using the Windows 8 tools - but I suspect that might leave the LSP rules in place, as it retains my settings & preferences.Hand edit the registry to correct the settings.
Option 2 is looking best, I can get into RegEdit from the recovery console, but I'm not sure what to edit and what to set it to? This is on Windows 8.1 Pro...

I have the 32-bit version of Win 8 Enterprise on a USB, and when I get to the "Installing Windows 8.1 screen" it get to 35%, and then gives a popup that the "Windows 8.1 Installation Has Failed". I have an Asus VivoTab Smart that comes with Windows 8, and before I can do the 8.1 upgrade, I have to install all 112 updates. This was going just fine until after it rebooted, and now it's been stuck on the "Failure configuring Windows updates, Reverting changes" screen for about the past 12+ hours. I restarted it a couple of times by holding down the power button, but it comes right back to the same screen after the Asus splash screen. Were this a laptop, I know exactly how to fix it (go to Advanced Recovery Options), but since it's a new tablet that I haven't yet connected its Bluetooth keyboard to, I'm basically stuck. I can't even boot to a flash drive because that requires a keyboard to get to the boot options.I don't have a keyboard attached to it and because the OS isn't loaded (can't get the Charms bar so I can restart it that way or boot into Safe Mode or anything.)

When I try and boot up the device it just says "Diagnosing your PC" and "Attempting Automatic Repair" but this is just a continual loop. I don't have a keyboard with it, its just touch screen, I don't know what to try. I can't seem to find much in the BIOS to do a different boot.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI came to some trouble installing CorelDraw software which apparently uses for it's setup launcher web active container performed by IE core. If I launch setup, the setup windows is evidently noninitialized showing the top warning band about active content being blocked for security reasons. Even allowing active content by selecting from the top bar menu doesn't make the setup continue. So now I'd need to temporarily bypass all IE's security checks, ie. allow everything. What I already did was browsing the security tab in IE options and allowing most of the choices in branches ActiveX controls and plugin modules + Scripting (Local Intranet). On Advanced tab I have checked in Security branch Allow execution of active content from CD discs on this computer + Allow execution of active content from files on this computer. Nothing of these affecting the installer to run (ie. I still see then active content blocking bar).
