where is spell check in windows 8? or what ever you call it now. how do I correct my spelling in email or anywhere for that manner? and does windows 8 have copy and paste? but it's the spelling thing I can't find and need.
How to change windows defender to manual in services? I've tried altering the permissions but for some reason it doesn't work. I even tried from the recovery console, which worked, but on rebooting the registry entry changed back to auto.
Spell checking do not work on Firefox in the Windows 8 x64. I mean back when I was using Win XP (for 10 years), the spell checking worked in every browser. I am talking about that red underlining appearing when a word is misspelt. Been using Windows 8 x64 for two month now and didn't see that working on latest FF.
I have read that Windows 8 has a new Chkdsk, which checks the file-system integrity in background. I'm using Windows 8 Pro 64bit (and NTFS file-system on all drives).
Does this improved Chkdsk check the file-system just when the computer is not used, or does it check it also while the user is working? Or does it scan the drives just when it's maintenance time?
Does it still make sense to run a manual Chkdsk on some occasions, or can I just not worry and let Chkdsk do its checks automatically? Such occasions would be for example after the computer completely hangs and I have it to brutally turn it off with the power switch (happened lately with a Linux live-CD), or after problems with the electric line (loss of power/power outage, resulting in instant turning-off).
In other words, is it useful to run a manual Chkdsk when there is a suspect that something could have gone wrong with the file-system, or can I just continue working and let Chkdsk do its verifications?
How long should it take (more or less) from when a file-system corruption arises, to when it gets detected by Chkdsk?
What worries me, is that not doing a Chkdsk at once, to repair eventual problems, may make the problems get bigger while the hard disk (or SSD) gets used. And they could get such big that they could not get repaired anymore (just an hypothesis).
my JTIS X Type workshop manual will no longer work with windows 8.1 ,I can install it but it will not work without this Application setup.exe dao35 and my laptop is saying not compatible, I have tried running it in compatibility mode win 7.
When I leave my computer after a session, it automatically goes into sleep mode after a period of time and remains that way till I wake it up.
However when I manually put it to sleep ( via shutdown options) , it goes to sleep immediately but for only a while ( a few minutes) then it shows the desktop screen again. If I then leave it alone after it self awake , it goes back to sleep as described above.
My PC just BSOD while playing games but this was only after it crashed to black screen unresponsiveness. A couple hours after the first crash (maybe after 1.5 hrs of gaming once again) it BSOD with the "Kernel Security Check Failure" error.
I am having trouble with a message in Action Center in Windows 8.1. It is saying "Check Backup Disk Space" and I cannot hide the message. I had Windows 7 File Recovery setup with Windows 8.1, but now after the upgrade, the message is "stuck." Can this be fixed? These two links explain it perfectly:
Windows 8.1 Update - Check backup disk space - Microsoft Community
Windows 8.1, can't remove "Check backup disk space" error in action center -
After upgrading from 4gb OEM RAM to 8gb Corsair CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9 I get BSOD with kernel_security_check_failure message just as Windows attempts to load. This happens with memory sticks in either slot. Testing memory with Memtest continually hangs on test #2. Memory was tested with Memtest in another computer and no errors were found. Incompatible memory or something else?
I am dual booting Windows 7 with Windows 8.1, and I went to reboot to go into Windows 7 and it gave me a BSOD. This is NOT the first time this has happened I had to leave Windows 8 in the past because of constant crashing. I am tired of this and I want an explanation.

I made a partition of 250GB for Windows 8. I don't know what else to say here. Windows 8 seems to just crash a lot, it happened on an OLDER computer of mine, but this is a brand new custom build. I can't even comprehend why it's crashing.
Also I guess it's worth noting I installed this today and installed windows updates today as well.
I forgot to mention I was using COMODO Anti-Virus, I saw in a previous post about my exact error that it had something to do with Comodo. I have since uninstalled that.
Also here is a preview of the error:

So I have recently switch over to 5ghz wifi, I look up how to check the 5ghz wifi compatibility, it state that if my computer have 802.11a or 802.11n network modes it's compatible to 5ghz wifi. My Windows 8 computer have 802.11n. That should be mean my 5ghz wifi should be showing up, but its not. My Iphone 5S is able to connect to my 5ghz wifi. But my computer is not.
The way I check is type "netsh wlan show drivers" In Cmd, then i look at Radio types supported, it listed as 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n.
I recently statred having a problem on some boot ups. I will either get a message that says an error has forced a restart and the above kernel message is displayed. On one other occasion, I got a blue screen with a lot of squiggly lines on one side of the screen. I am running windows 8 on a HP Lqaptop.what it could be?
