I was going to move several folders (Document, Pictures, Music etc) to her second HD.
I chose properties, local but forget to create a new folder in second HD.
Instead of moving Documents to D:Documents I moved it to D:
The same happened to Pictures, Music, Movies etc.
In user I don't see the folders anymore, just a bunch of D:
After installing Windows 8 I moved "libraries/My documents" folder to another drive (I have SSD OS drive) but still c: space keeps going low.
I found a folder on my c: drive named by my PC name on the network, e.g. "MyPC" that has 10 GB size and includes the following file tree: MyPC/Documents and settings/Administrator/desktop,Favorites,My documents.
"My documents" seems identical to the Users/Myname/My documents that has been moved to a different drive.
I am the only user and have administrators permissions. It seems this Administrator's folder duplicates my documents somehow. (it's desktop folder is different from MYname Desktop folder). What should I do to clean the space - try to login as administrator and do something about this huge duplicate folder?
Recently I was transferring documents from one computer to another and I believe I deleted my Microsoft OneNote notebook in the process. How to find the lost file? I don't think I had saved it (OneNote confuses me a bit) but there has to be a way to find it, right?
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy current aging computer has an internal 750GB HDD, which is made up mostly of files inside My Documents/My Pictures/My Music/My Videos folders. I just ordered the Microsoft Surface Pro 2 w/ 256GB SSD. I also ordered an external USB 3.0 500GB SSD, so that between the Surface's 256GB SSD and the external 500GB SSD I can transfer all my data from my aging computer.
My question: I would like to set up Windows 8.1 so that the Surface Pro 2 with its 256GB SSD will include the OS, apps, and My Documents folder, and that the attached external USB 3.0 500GB SSD will hold the My Pictures/My Music/My Videos folders. If I'm away from home for the day (or a few days), I will only take the Surface Pro 2 with me and likely leave the external SSD behind because I mostly use the stuff in My Documents.
So, specifically, I'd like to know if you think I should set up Windows with all these folders on the Surface Pro 2, but have the My Pictures/My Music/My Videos folders be empty except for a LINK to folders on the external SSD which will include the actual content (files) of these folders, or should I actually MOVE those three system folders from the 256GB SSD onto the external 500GB drive?
Did an upgrade to WIN 8.1 and everything kept freezing up. Took a brand new 1T portable drive and copied the entire (or what I thought was the entire) C drive.
Got into the boot screen and did a system restore. WIN 8 works fine, but my portable hard drive copy does not contain any of my documents, videos or pictures.
Tried Recuva and Puran on the original internal hard drive and still can't find any of the missing documents.
I just attached my Micromax canvas smartphone to my windows 8 laptop to transfer some of my pics. I copied the pics and then looked for an appropriate folder in Documents to paste those pics. I found a folder named My Pics which already had some of my pics. I created a new folder inside it and then went back to my phone location. But to my surprise, when I came back there in My Pics I just found that folder empty!! (space 0 bytes)... What has just happened,I've lost my pics forever. I even tried System restore but in vain.

I set up my wife and 2 daughters as Administrators like me but I thought that they would not be able to see my Documents or Pictures or Music as my Profile has a password. But they were able to see all my Music, Documents and Pictures.
Previously in Windows XP, all our stuff was separate and they didn't see any of my files.
Thinking all I had to do was make them Standard Users and this would rectify the issue but obviously it didn't. I have left them at Standard Users hoping for a solution from you people here on this Forum.
So I am asking is there a way on Windows 8.1 to have my stuff Private for me and for no one to see it?
I installed Windows 8.1 today. My Libraries including all of my pictures, music, and documents are gone. Where they went?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI recently turn off the login password on Windows 8.1, HP laptop. The next time she went to turn it on, all the normal tiles from the Start Screen were gone with the exception of five tiles: IE, File Explorer, Store, SkyDrive and Desktop.
The File Explorer icon opens a folder showing the various libraries and devices/drivers. When she clicks on the Documents folder it doesn't show any of her files. I did eventually find them by going to her name in the Users folder, but we cannot understand why simply taking away the requirement for a login password would change everything. All her browser favorites were also wiped out, and she had to reinstall Chrome.
I am trying to move a rar folder to MyGames folder and it's having none of it.. It just seems to be my MyGames folder and no other folders on my PC.
I am currently using Windows 8.1 is there a problem or a glitch with this? I currently have McAfee installed could this be apart of moving folders, copying folders to another folder?
I have checked all my permissions etc in the MyGames folder and they seem to be fine. I am trying to move folder to my Farming Simulator 2013 folder and it's not doing anything not even popping up with any kind of warning why my folder isn't copying, pasting correctly.
Over the years I've tried to save all my documents. This means that they have been copied from folder to folder and computer to computer (whatever was before Windows 95) probably mostly through external storage. However, some of these were saved directly to the 2nd internal hard drive D: of Windows 8 may be included, but I'm not certain.
I believe all of the folders are present, most of which are identified by date. However, many of the folders are completely empty. I cannot see a pattern as to which folders. This seems to involve mostly older folders, (and this may mean that it is more likely that they have been through a USB device) but not all of the older folders are empty. More recent ones are also empty. Otherwise, I cannot identify any specific documents, only that large numbers of folders are empty.
I have my photos nicely filed on my iPhone 5c (categories like 'cats', 'children' etc...) however I now want to move these to my laptop (HP running windows 8.1). When I try the photos just appear as one large batch, and not in their folders still. I'm not sure if this is an iPhone issue or windows 8 issue....I have tried using an app such as PhotoManager Pro but still no luck. Do I just have to recreate the folders on my laptop?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently migrated to Windows 8. My music collection stumbled along the way and I had to re-fetch artwork for a few albums in WMP. I also set it up in iTunes. My default app for MP3s is WMP. As you can see below, artwork only appears when in the folder view (which somewhat defeats the purpose of libraries in the first place). I'd prefer to sort them by artist, with album art displayed without a folder, as it should and as it did in Windows 7.
Art appears in folder view but not artist or album view.
On a related note, I recently added many new MP3s to my collection. When I opened Xbox Music for the first time afterwards, it seemed to be downloading art to add it to my older albums, all of which have art. Then the process was somehow interrupted. I believe I closed the app. Then, when I opened it again, none of them had art.
I had recently replaced my HDD with SSD, So I had backed up & erased all the personal files including music, videos etc from respective folders, Actually there is no files other than system files, programs, softwares in the SSD now, I had done disk cleanup, defrag , clearing of temp, prefetch folders etc before starting the cloning everything from HDD to SSD,
After replacement, now I could see all my collection of songs/music in the Now Playing section of Music App (Modern app), No music files are actually present for me to locate in any of the folders when I go through for explorer,
I'm not able to play the music files by clicking it from Music App , & when I delete it from there by right clicking it - temporarily goes away but returns when i close the App and opens it again..
I had unchecked & checked the indexing option in the Music folder (File Explorer) - properties & restarted system, checked, But still all the music files are listed in the App, how to clear the music file listings from the Music app permanently which are not really present in the system?
Is there a reason why the path box by "Browse" PC is missing on the "Insert Image" in certain threads and/or at certain times? The insert box appears for inserting URL, but not for PC. I've been trying to post pics here: Thoughts on Windows Phone 8?, but it's been 2 days I haven't been able to. It's been happening now and then since joining.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been using the computer with Windows 8 for 7 months now. I'm basically unhappy with it but have been using it. Yesterday I tried to post a pic on an email. A box came up saying "documents.library-ms" is no longer working. Then an additional window saying There is a problem opening this location.
I did a reset to not loose the files. After that It came up without the windows 8 windows. I did another reset without files being lost and it came up with some windows. I restarted the computer and original windows screen came up without all I'd added over time. I tried pulling up a doc and got the same documents-library-ms notification. I went to search and files and all the docs and pics are there but will not pull up when you go to libraries.
I use the snipping tool to get a screenshot and save it to my desktop but it never appears on my desktop? I do another snip and save it to my desktop and it says "capture already exists" - but its not on my desktop?
I can view it in my menu under "recent items" but the home of the file is shown in the photo. Why is it not on my desktop as the file sting says it is?
Windows 8.1, but I've noticed my files icon pictures disappearing, first it was my malwarbytes logo, then now my utorrent logo also disappeared?

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor a couple weeks I have been streaming shows to my ps3 from my computer. On my PS3 I have access to four folders, Videos, Music, Pictures, and Playlists, the first three of which I can locate on my computer. When I want to watch a video, I simply copy it into the Videos folder on my computer, then stream from there.
Now I'd like to stream music, my problem is that my music isn't in my Music folder, I have it in a separate folder that doesn't show up on my PS3. Copying over all my music would take time, and I'd also have to redo my WMP playlists. I have tried adding this folder to my shared folder list, and to my Music library, but neither of these things made a difference.
I've spent a couple hours now trying to figure this out, but I can't seem to find anything on google that relates to my specific problem, but there is absolutely no way I'm the first person who's ever wanted to access folder's other than the 4 I've mentioned.
on the bottom and right side of the screen there is these lines where you can use your mouse to move your screen.but they are so tiny I can barely see them. on windows XP that I had just last month there was a way to enlarge them, so there must be a way to do that with windows 8.
