When I hook my laptop up to the TV with a HDMI cable my laptop screen goes dark and the TV only shows the task bar and the desktop background. Sound works. No mouse or actual programs are displayed. I would like to mirror the TV to my desktop. My laptop is a HP Pavillion Dv7-4285dx running Windows 8 Pro 64 bit.

i finally worked out how to get full screen on my tv when connected via hdmi from laptop, which is great. only now found that when i shut the laptop screen i lose the full screen on the tele and it sizes down to about 50% with the black boarder. on my laptop control panel "what does computer do when i shut the lid" i have selected "do nothing" on both wired and battery modes. How I can close the lid and keep full screen? (the tv is a celcus full hd smart something or other and laptop is hp running windows 8.1,

I've used the drivers that Microsoft provided and also beta drivers from AMD from Febuary 2014, nothing seems to work. I've taken a picture, I've underlined where the back bars are in red.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWell I have been having issues with my monitor. I had a Toshiba laptop I had hooked up to my monitor, everything worked great. It then crashed, I got a new Dell with Windows 8 64bit and Intel graphics. I have an HDMI to VGA adapter cause my laptop doesn't have a VGA port and monitor doesn't have HDMI. So I hook it up and get it to work but "Input Not Supported" was floating around the screen.
So I changed the resolution. The only resolution that makes the "Input Not Supported" to go away is 1600X200. Well its clear picture but I have the annoying black bars on the side of my screen. I have looked around and everyone says to go to the CCC but I can't find it on here and from what I understand that is for AMD only(if I'm mistaken how to make it work cause I have attempted it). So is there an Intel version or how do I fix it?
My wife has a nice new VAIO laptop. We connect it to a Samsung TV with an HDMI cable. Initially there were video artifacts on the TV screen, but after some fiddling they seemed to go away. Today they have returned. I have tried another HDMI cable and it didn't work.
The artifacts are only on the TV screen and not on the laptop display. They cannot be captured with a screenshot (I just tried this and am posting from my computer).
The web search picture (HDMI.jpg) shows small vertical lines in a row after some of the text.

But less than the height of these lines. There is also a set of the lines that follows the mouse cursor around.
The VAIO desktop picture (HDMI2.jpg) shows "sparkles" around the VAIO name and spreading to the left where it takes up the entire side of the screen.
Last night I got hold of a 27" BenQ GL2750HM, so far so good. I have my main display from the DVI port to HDMI port on the screen and my secondary screen is my 60" TV which is connected through HDMI port on the graphic card into the HDMI port in my reciever.
The main scheme for my setup is like:
- Radeon 7970 DVI > HDMI Main monitor (BenQ GL2750)
- Radeon 7970 HDMI > HDMI Reciever (ONKYO TX-NR609)
- ONKYO TX-NR609 > 60" TV
So to the problem now. When the HDMI cable is connected to the graphic card, I need to have my TV ON in order for my main monitor, the BenQ, to work and if I turn off the TV the BenQ is getting black, like a standby mode, however, there is "no signal" to the monitor.
This was never a problem with my other screen, I could have the HDMI cable connected to the graphic card, the TV off and the reciever OFF without the main monitor went black.
I have an ASUS s550C running windows 8 and my HDMI to my 32" RCA flatscreen doesn't work anymore. The cable works fine with the xbox, correct tv modes, but now as soon as I plug in the HDMI to the Ultrabook the Ultrabooks screen goes black and the tv screen says unsupported. I have tried extended, 2nd screen only, and all screen settings, 720/1080I etc.

The monitor does turns on, it's light turn on, but all i get is black screen.
i also have I5 4570 and Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H.after i installed windows, i installed the motherboard drivers, includes Intel HD Graphics 4600. Could it conflicts with the ATI's driver?
also, when i connect the monitor to the motherboard it works fine (so far at least). but games doesn't run smoothly.

1 : Eyefinity: Which basically makes my 3 monitors behave like a Single Large Surface(SLS). Resolution 46XX by 900
2 : Center : Turn off my monitor on the left and right and keep center only. Sometimes I want to run games at max high settings. Resolution 1440 X 900
3 : Panasonic : I want my Panasonic to be the main display. Resolution 1280 by 720

As I understand it, smartglass is a competitor to Apple's AirPlay. On Airplay, I can sync it with a television and show the display from a mac or ipad on a big screen wirelessly. I want to do the same thing where I can sit on my couch with a laptop, but display the windows desktop on the TV screen.
I want to prevent apps (typically old games) from lowering the desktop resolution. I often change to another app to check out something, and in this case the desktop also runs in the silly low resolution. Plus the window sizes and the icon locations are permanently changed.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm currently running Windows 8.1 Update with an NVidia 660TI with two DVI monitors at 1920x1200 and a 1080p TV from the HDMI output. I'm having trouble with the 1080p TV in that when I drag an application (Store or Win32) onto the screen, the top and bottom is truncated when I maximise it. For example, if I drag Windows Media Player over to the TV and maximise it, the play, forward and rewind buttons when visible are cut in half at the bottom of the screen.

Now when it starts up I get red lines going across the screen, but can still see the bios info and the windows logo and spinning dots when Windows loads just fine, however when Windows starts I just have a blank screen. Obviously the screen was damaged, but it seems to display the lower resolution okay. I just can't lower the resolution in Windows since I can't see what I'm doing. Plugging in an external monitor doesn't work, there's no output there. Is there way to change the resolution settings if I take it the hdd and plug it into another computer as an external drive? The laptop is an Intel cpu and my other machine is an AMD cpu, so I don't think just trying to boot the laptop hard drive in the desktop would work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought myself a Radeon HD 7770 a few months back to replace an old GeForce 9600GT. A few weeks after installing the AMD card, I was going through my programs cleaning out old files and decided to remove all the Nvidia stuff. I removed the drivers and stuff and upon reboot, my computer would no longer boot to the desktop. I ended up having to use system restore to get the computer working again...
Fast forward to yesterday. I upgraded from Windows 8 Pro with Media Center to Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center, and I started experiencing the same problem listed here: "Win 8.1 desktop right click takes 15 seconds!" I tried the same solution that was found and it did not work for me. My guess is it had something to do with the Nvidia driver software still being installed on my computer. So I again attempted to remove the drivers. At this point I couldn't even remove the Nvidia software as nothing happened when I pressed the uninstall button. I ended up having to reinsert the Nvidia card, and reinstall the drivers, in order to uninstall the drivers. After I restarted and reinstalled the AMD card, the computer, like before would no longer boot to the desktop. All I would get was a mouse pointer that would appear and disappear every couple of seconds and a Number lock button on the keyboard that would be turning on and off at the same interval. If I reinsert the Nvidia card the problem goes away, but obviously I don't want to keep the old card in my computer.
My question is: Why would the computer boot with the Nvidia card when the Nvidia drivers are uninstalled and yet not boot with the AMD card when the AMD drivers ARE installed?
My computer is hp envy dv6 7280sf notebook with 2 GPUs intel graphics HD 4000 and Nvidia Gefoce 630 M running windows 8 64x.
After making an free upgrade online for windows 8.1 which run successfully, both gpus were ok...
But after receiving a windows update with new drivers for intel graphics 4000 gpu , after install and restart , the computer freezes on blank black screen at windows startup with no mouse or anything only backlight.
So safemode was succeful but i figured that the update for windos update was the cause and graphics drivers were installed so i removed the drivers for intel graphics and itried to reboot the computer so the restart was succeful but the intel graphics card was unistalled and no drivers were automatically installed so i tried to download and install the drivers from hp and intel website for windows 8.1 however the install fails.
Automatic install from device manager failed both online and from computer and even from manual driver selection.
So therefore the install failed in safe mode , and the high def audio device ( on screen audio possibly) failed and the device was not recongnized (no drivers installed) so i'm stuck without anydrivers for the integrated gpu and the games are no longer able to run normally even if the nvidia card is on.
I tried downloading an installing Windows 8 drives but it failed to install also , for instance any new install of drovers seems to fail for me even for external usb hard drive.
I'm building a system for cryptocoin mining, and am having a little problem with getting Windows 8.1 (home, not pro) to run the 3rd card (GPU) My equipment is:
Gigabyte 990 FXA UD3 MOBO
AMD Vishera CPU
2x4 gig Corsair Ram
3x Sapphire r9 280x Video cards
1000w Corsair PSU
Scandisk SSD
All parts are brand new.
Here is the problem... everything boots just fine and runs with 2 of the GPU's installed. I have the latest AMD 13.12 drivers, and the AMD APP SKD installed. When I add the 3rd GPU though, windows will auto detect it as a Radeon 7900 with the caution sign, AND/OR a r9 200 series card, also with the caution sign, most times BOTH. Then it randomly freezes the system. A couple of times I got it to run long enough just by luck I guess, to install the 13.12 drivers on the 3rd GPU, but then in a few minuites the system would freeze again.
2 GPU's run just fine, the problem only shows up when the 3rd card is installed, and it happens on any of the 4 16x slots, or both 1x slots on the MOBO. It doesn't matter if the GPU's are directly on the MOBO, or on 1x16 risers. There are plenty of folks running this set up with up to 6 GPU's, so I know it can be done, but I must be missing something somewhere in the windows set up.
I've got a bit of a strange issue that I haven't had with previous OSes on this PC. I'm running a Dell OptiPlex 380 with Win 8 x64 at the office and I have to run 2 video cards for all of my screens. I have a GeForce 8400GS in the PCI-E slot and a GeForce 6200 in the PCI slot.
Previous to the Win 8 install, it worked fine. Booted exactly as I had shut it off. Now, with 8 - it's killing my PCI-E card presumably when it puts the screens to sleep when I leave for the day. So I'm coming in to all of my windows being moved to the PCI card's monitor (only one hooked to it) and I have to reboot to get PCI-E card to come back.
If I check the screen properties, I see only the screen hooked to the PCI card. I've changed the setting in the BIOS for the first video card to Auto and also tried the PCI-E selection and it's the same either way.
Why on earth would it default to the PCI card rather than the PCI-E card?

I just decided to turn loose Windows 8 RP on "bare metal" here as opposed to a VM. I didn't even bother to mess with video under a VM, but with the bare metal install, I've run into some trouble.
At first, media player didn't seem to play anything, including .wmv files. Messing around, I unchecked the "Direct X acceleration" box and that allowed it to play .wmv files. However, it still won't play .mp4 files -- no video, just sound, and Media Player will hang trying to exit.
It did this with a clean install with only the Windows supplied video driver. My video card has been obsoleted by AMD now (HD 4200 chipset) and I couldn't use the new Windows 8 preview driver package, but I did try installing the AMD 12.4 driver in Win7 compatibility mode. That worked fine it seems, but it still won't play .mp4 files. Turning the Direct X acceleration back on still kills .wmv playback as well.
Win7, both x64 and 32-bit played .mp4 files fine right out of the box on this machine.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm having issues with one of my GPU's fans (it features a dual-fan cooling) and will have to fix it soon. The problem is, it's making an annoying noise and I was thinking if I could just block it for the time being, however brutally that sounds.
So, the question is - provided the GPU doesn't reach critical temperatures (I'm going to monitor this obviously) - would this create any additional risks, like overcurrent or something? (I don't play games, but it's a HD6950, so it does emit a lot of heat).
I actually think it's integrated, how do I do it? According to running a random game on systemrequirementslab.com (Dead Island), my dedicated video RAM is 32mb. It's not a custom built, I bought it from the store.

I am on my work computer, a DELL desktop with Windows 8.1, and I've been using a dual monitor setup for months, both with Windows 8 and 8.1. One monitor is connected via the VGA input, and the other is through a VGA to HDMI adapter. Again, they've been working flawlessly for months. It was a plug 'n play setup that took a minute and never had an issue.
I came in today and the second screen was blank. In the screen setup menu it recognized it and allowed me to adjust between extending, mirroring, etc. But after I unplugged it and plugged it back in, it no longer recognizes it. It simply cannot find a second monitor plugged in. Both screens work when plugged directly into the VGA port separately but not when plugged in the way they've worked for months.
How do I get "Screen Resolution" (on desktop, right click and select Screen Resolution) to show my main monitor as "1"?

I was attempting to hook the computer up to my tv through hdmi (the pc has no VGA input) and when I went through the normal paces to put the display on my tv (display desktop only on 2), the signal did not transfer and there is no display on either my tv or pc! how to revert the display back to my pc monitor without being able to see anything? Acer support was less than useful. It's an acer aspire z3-605 all-in-one pc.

Usually I have to put my computer to sleep and turn it back on to get it to fix. Also, the brightness wont adjust in anyway when its on. I've tried the function keys and the setting in the side bar. I have a toshiba laptop running windows 8.1 . I also have recently completely wiped it thinking it was a virus of some sorta with no change.
