I have a 2GB GeForce 640GT video card. It has 2GB onboard and windows 8 is using an additional 2GB of ram for it. I don't do gaming or heavy rendering. Occasionally I use google earth and a few other 3d mapping apps. I don't see how any of these need 4GB of ram to do this. This 2GB of system memory is 25% of my entire system memory. This card, in an older PC used no system memory under Windows 7.
How can I reclaim this ram? If I cannot, and add more ram will it take even more of that?
nVidia says this is a windows issue and not a driver issue but I cannot find anywhere in windows to tune or change this.
See the attached System Information from the nVidia control panel.
Need Windows 8.1 Enterprise edition drivers for this VGA Card

I installed an EVGA GT630 1GB but it doenst work properly with Windows 8 Pro x64. All I have is a black screen, but the computer isnt freezing, 'cos I can hear the logon and shutdown sounds. I've tested it on Server 2003 R2 x64 (XPDM) and it worked just fine.
I got noyhing from nVidia forums...
May it be a problem with WDDM (defective card)?
Recently, I got a new graphics card for my computer (the card was Galaxy NVIDA GEForce 620). Well, after install some things changed that I do not like:
I can no longer sleep my computer. The #1 thing I liked about Windows 8 was getting to sleep the computer/ wake it up real fast. After I put this card in, the only options I get are Reboot and Shutdown. (And I even had to turn fast startup off, because when I start the computer up with it on, my USB's loose their functionality).
So I bought an MPG645 which is actually a Medion and I have a GeForce GT640 (which should work fine with Windows 8). First time when I installed the card I got the beeps (long short short) and nothing happened. Went into bios and noticed I had an "OS selector" for either Windows 8 and Win7/OtherOS. Setting it to the Win7/other OS solved the beeps and I could use my GT640. Now yesterday I had a big problem resulting in me needing to get back to factory default so as I am used from the previous OS setups I removed my videocard, set the bios back to original and re-installed my system
Then I wanted to put my card back.....black screen (after setting the OS back to WIN7/otherOS). tried it without the card and got a message telling me I had to use the proper boot device, hit any key and try again". The solution I was reading on the nvidia page told me to disable secure boot, no solution.
Basically, it has worked fine until I had to reset my system and now whatever I try I can't install my graphics card

I have recently installed a new Video Card a Gigabyte GeForce 660 GTX, when I'm playing video's or if I open the Geforce Experience program from the task bar the screen goes blank for about a second then returns to normal, it always seems to happen when I get the program to check for updates. I am using the latest driver 320.49.
When I play games there's no problem occur so I don't think it's the card it's self, I suspect it's something to do with the program.
I am having some problems with 3 years old PC. Only while playing games (Civ 5 - Heroes & Generals - Rise of nations) I suffer from freeze/crashes, PC doesn't show a BSOD, the mouse pointer works normally it doesn't freeze (until I try to alt+tab or alt+ctrl+del), and from my speakers I can hear looping sounds.
The only thing I can do is a hard reboot. I try reinstalling windows, and the problem still exists. My BIOS, drivers* and OS are update, I perform a memtest for 6 hours and show no errors, I can run prime95 + kombustor and everything is fine, no temps problems, GPU never go over 68c and CPU at 58c, and no crashes.
DSIM commands show no errors neither.
*I tried latest NVIDIA drivers, and old ones, im actually using 334.89 version, and the problem persist.
Okay, this is the second time with a different game this is happening, at very specific points in the game, My Laptop's screen blacks out and goes off, the computer stays on with lights and stuff but the screen just stays off like when you put off a pc but the fans keep running, I then have to forcefully power my pc off to put off the entire system.
I don't think this has anything to do with my Laptop's temperature as I've just had the vents and heat sinks ventilated recently, also cause the laptop goes off at just one scene in a particular mission in both games, Assassins Creed and Far Cry 3.
I don't think its my PC's specs either cause I went through the requirements of these games before getting them. I've not been able to go past the stages in the game where my PC goes off.
My Laptop's specs:
HP Envy M6-1105DX : AMD A10-4600M 2.3GHz, 6GB RAM, Windows 8, 64-bit.
It's been happening for awhile now since windows 7 through to windows 8 and i'm not sure why but it usually happens when i play games even with lowest settings, whenever it freezes it makes me have to force shut down manually.
System Specs :
Windows 8 Pro With Media Centre
4 GB DDR2 RAM
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8300
ATI Radeon HD 4600
the driver uptodate and i have tried tu turn off intel hd , but nvidia 740 still not working
do ia have to downgrade to windows 8? intsead using wn 8.1

Description:After my pc freezed all of sudden while running emulators (i also had an auto windows update few hours earlier), windows refuse to detect my GPU and NVIDIA installer keep failing...Luckily i have two GPU but i cannot use the NVIDIA one due to this issue.
ASUS Tech Support Little talk with ASUS Support and they asked if i had a critical windows update recently. They asked me to try a system restore, which seem to solve the issue (i could see the GPU card but only for some minutes). Now after that i being asked to format the pc.
I have a notebook pc that comes with windows 7 from factory. I would like to install windows 8 in my machine. It has integrated intel hd graphics chip and separate nvidia geforce 420m graphic card. I heard switchable graphics are not working fine with windows 8. Is that true? BTW my system manufacturer isn't providing drivers that compatible with windows 8. Whatever windows 8 upgrade assistant says already installed drivers also compatible with windows 8 and individual hardware manufactures has windows 8 compatible drivers. So, what should I do? Windows 8 upgrade is useless for me?

I am aware that there are still some known issues with Nvidia Chips on x64 versions of Windows 8.

I have a question regarding PC gaming, since I realy dont know as much as I would like to.
My question is what role does my CPU play in gaming? Is it a big thing? I always thought that having a strong, powerful graphics card was more important that a powerful CPU.
Is there a particular thing that the CPU does in PC gaming that makes having a strong one essential?
I Just installed a fresh windows 8 on my computer and it worked fine until I installed the nvidia drivers. Without nvidia drivers it works fine, but after installing it it starts to freeze and crash. After I remove the nvidia driver is it works fine again. I tried the newest and the older nvidia drivers but none of them were stable. The symtopms are different each time. Sometimes BSOD sometimes some part of graphics on the screen goes pink sometimes the screen blacks out and does not return until I hard reset it.

It seems most of us having this problem, does Windows 8 have a latest release of installation disk that having a fixed driver for the said graphics card?.
Here you may wanna take a look at here, they have a majority relevance issue and also I have these problem.
So, it all started after i had my nvidia drivers error "Nvidia windows kernel mode driver error". After this error windows started being really annoying and laggy. Usually it lags most when i turn on computer, it takes a lot of time to load files, and strange thing happens after i turn it on. Just a few seconds after windows loads pictograms on dekstop windows strangly loads them again... I checked my disk usage, it goes to 100% sometimes and when its at 100% windows getting laggy. Usually reinstalling windows works, but I cant reinstall it atm, I got a lot of important stuff in it (and I made one disk). I am using windows 8.

I bought a computer in December from powernotebooks, but its a sager. I get random blue screens mostly when gaming but sometimes even when on desktop or surfing the web. When the Nvidia card is turned off, and the onboard one is only running, the computer will never crash, when I turn the NVidia on the crashes are almost immediate.

View 5 Replies View RelatedYesterday I was playing Dota 2 when suddenly I got a black screen and "display driver has stopped working and has recovered."
Right after, I tried to open the game again. There was no way of getting it working.
Any other game was also not working. The first thing I did was, of course, trying to reinstall the driver.
I tried to install the lastest driver (337.50 beta) and I got only "installer has failed". I also tried with many other older drivers and such, with no result.
Other things I tried:
Clean install (from custom install options)Hard clean install (Deleting all nvidia files before)Display Driver Uninstaller safe mode + reboot and install (same error)Install in safe mode (installer error)Register again WMI files (nothing changed). Take ownership of various folders containing drivers (nothing changed)Directly install INF files using devmgmt (gives error code 28) Changing some registry values regarding vbscript that fixed it for other people. Use Windows Update. "1 update was not installed" + error 80070002sfc /scannowRollback from devmgmtRestore to a early system point where it was working (couldn't restore, no matter what point I choose)
Nothing worked. It just won't install. Now I'm stuck with Microsoft base driver and can't play anything.
Here's the installer log, the only part with errors: Log (full log attached)
Event viewer shows nothing.
My system specs: CPU-Z Validator 4.0
I think it's probably a miracle if I get this working without refresh/reinstall Windows.
Once I have updated driver for NVidia, Wn 8.1 does not start. Entering Safe Mode I could uninstall the update and everything goes back to normal.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I recently bought a new computer. I was using the GTS 450 on the old one no problem not even a month ago. I have attempted to install it on my new pc. Switched out to a Thermaltake TR2 600W PSU which is operating just fine. I placed the video card into the primary pci slot and powered it with the 6-pin connector. Put everything back together and started her up. PC turns on fine, with even the fan going on the video card. But no video output. I'm stuck. What can I do? The drivers won't install themselves without the hardware.
View 9 Replies View RelatedBeen experiencing seemingly random BSOD's for the past few weeks, and completely unable to solve the problem myself. It happens from a minute or two after startup to after 3 or 4 hours or working, and sometimes doesn't crash on intensive apps like Furmark.
I'm running a Lenovo Y400 with the newest Nvidia drivers, and have attempted rolling back and uninstalling with DDU but no success.
is it possible to make my pc faster for gaming? or is it all about hardware?
View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter a couple of weeks using 8.1 (x86) and after Windows 7 Ultimate (x86), I have come to the conclusion that it is a much lighter and faster OS than 7. Mafia 1 for instance runs on full specs without a single hiccup no matter what. I know it's an old game but it's also very demanding, especially on my system which is not exactly up to date. I can also play Splinter Cell Chaos Theory on medium settings very well indeed, and that's a demanding game on the system. GT Legends by Simbin is a reasonably demanding game especially on full graphics options and with a full grid of cars and it's running well on Windows 8.1. My onboard Intel graphics adapter is coping a lot better with these games than it did on Windows 7 Ultimate. I had to find a Windows 8 driver for it (I've found it on here) then all my games started to run very well considering my old laptop specs.
