View 14 Replies View RelatedI bought a shiny new laptop yesterday with windows 8 pre-installed. After setting a few things up, i restarted the computer for the first time. At this time the computer downloaded many updates. On start up since my user account has been downgraded to a guest account. This is the only account on the computer, as such i do not have administrator rights and i am unable to log in as an administrator.
May I have to restore the computer back to factory settings but how to do this without being the administrator.
I enabled the guest account on my laptop to let my parents use it for whatever they needed without having to worry about them messing something up on my main account.
I have been trying to access my administrator account for awhile now. I've tried shutting down, restarting, etc. but as soon as the windows 8 start screen pops up, I'm immediately logged on to Guest. I can't figure out how to get to my admin account.
How to delete the Guest Account as i refuses to be removed even logged in as the highest level Admin?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently, restored my acer m5-581ptg to factory settings, since it is an older version (2012), there were about 111 updates that needed to be installed. That all went fine and then on startup, it starts up and shows the loading sign and 'please wait'.
I tried tapping f8 and shift + f8 with no luck whatsoever, and i also disconnected from power supply and took out battery, and restarted, still starts up 'no funny noises or anything' and then just sits on 'please wait'.
I have just enabled the Guest account on my laptop with the idea that it is completely secure from my account but it isn't really working for me. It seems to act as any other account and remembers details of the previous log-on.
Is there some way I can allow a Guest user to access internet, print (and nothing else really but it doesn't matter) and then after they have finished whatever they have done is destroyed so next time there is nothing in downloads, nothing on desktop, no preferences or log-ins saved in browsers etc. Like the temporary profile you get on occasion.
I had this problem before where, when a pet rabbit (I admit that was a bad decision) would walk or sit on the computer or keyboard, not for a long time, and as the result the mousepad/cursor would stop working. Even a plugged in mouse wouldn't work. I had it repaired and the person who fixed it said it was a setting. Problem is, same rabbit same problem, and now my cursor does it again. I can turn it on and it will move and click, same with my guest account, but then after a while it'll freeze and not do a thing. Where's the setting?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've mistakenly changed my guest account to administrator and my previous administrator account to local account in Windows 8. Now I'm unable to remove the guest account as administrator or switch it off.

View 3 Replies View RelatedApparently there is little or no security for app tiles (on right-side of the screen. Guests can run any app that was installed in the Public folder as well as many of the administrative type apps. I can go in one-by-one and deny Guest access, but I must have over 100 apps they can access and run. They can even uninstall programs.
It would nice if Windows 8 had set all tiles to deny guest permissions for all of the app tiles and let us turn the few apps we give guest "on."
Any way or a program that you could deny guests access to these app tiles in bulk?
My computer was stuck in shut down twice and have received Driver Power State Failure BSOD.

I'll try and keep this as short and concise: I've got Windows 8 on a new Toshiba Satellite S855. I didn't create a guest acct. after I got it back in March - as I remember, it seems like I had some issues creating it because of the stupid Msoft forcing me to join/create and acct. for their new setup or something. Anyways, so I just skipped it and been using the desktop on my admin acct. to do all my net browsing, email, etc. I put my wimpy little music collection and some movies on it from my last lapT, and then last week I bought and downloaded Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim from Gamestop/Bethesda/Steam and installed it.
I've been playing catch up reading up on all the different things to do to make a more secure computer other than just letting MS essentials or AVG (on my last lapT) alone to do the work. I've got CCleaner and Malwarebytes on all the computers in the house and running MS essentials on my 8 & my old vista as well as my roomies running 7, but I'm not sure what all else I should install. Mainly though, I just want to know how to transfer things (For Dummies as I'm totally not very tech savvy) from an Admin acct. over to the Guest acct. on the same computer. I was thinking I'm sure there's some way to log into the guest, and then run admin in it and then transfer it over, but I haven't figured out how it's done yet.
I want to make an account that sets itself to delete all files that have been downloaded by the user on sign out, and when you next sign in it the default files are loaded in again, with no files downloaded or internet history saved etc., still there.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an Admin & a Guest account on my Windows 8.1 Pro (32 bit). I have enabled the option to go directly to the desktop (through toolbar properties > Navigation) in both the accounts. However, I notice that at times when I start my PC, it logs me in directly to the Guest account instead of taking me to the page where I should see the date & time (before login page). This does not happen always.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running windows 8.1 and have noticed I am not given a choice anymore between my account and guest account. I have gone to control panel (users and accounts) and Guest Account does not show. However when I go to turn on Guest Account, it is already on. It just will not show up on my login page.

I have tried scanning for file errors on system in all the ways I could think of, restarting computer, turning guest account on and off, both of the previous 2 combined, re-installing all windows updates and searching for an online solution but still when I try to log in to the Guest account it says something like "Could not load account". I cannot restore system to an earlier state as I have done quite important things on this computer.
Looking for Guest folder packed in an archive so I can use that to replace it?

View 14 Replies View RelatedSo on Win 8.1 and have a portable app I want a guest user to use but it asks for password every single time.
1. Is it possible to change the permission somewhere so it wont prompt a password?
2. If no the above, is there a third party app that can be used to give a specific app admin rights/or remove admin rights from it?
i had activated guest acc. from control panel ,it was going well since last 2-3 days ,the guest account wont show on logon screen.
it only shows my account which is admin.
Win 8 Pro x64. I had to use my Administrator account today and then returned to my named Local/Admin one. Now, when I go to reboot, Windows gives a message that "Other people are logged on to this computer. Restarting Windows might cause them to lose data." What I don't find is a way to sign out of that Admin account. Is there, short of disabling it? Seems sort of a Catch-22.

Before I start can you tell me if I need to be logged in to the account that has suffered the problem or can I do it from my (admin) account on the same computer? The unexpected_kernel_mode_trap problem has (so far) only occurred on my son's user account.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 8 installed on a local account and wish to sign in from my Microsoft Account but only as & when required not all of the time. Shawn's tutorial "How to Sign in with a Different Microsoft Account to the Store in Windows 8" covers the procedure which should apply.
Attempting this offers only the "Sign In" button however once clicked the spinning circle appears for a fleeting second before the pointer is returned to the button once more, further attempts loopback in the same manner.
I can only surmise that this is happening because I have undertaken a customised install using Kari's excellent tutorial "How to Relocate User Profiles to another Partition or Disk in Windows 8" where the User Profile concerned is "D:User" and not "C:UsersUser" this being my longstanding preference from previous Windows installs from XP to 7.
I have tried the mklink /j route to link both C:UsersUser and D:UsersUser with D:User but with no success.
Is there a registry key containing the profile path which is used by the store sign in which requires modifying to my customised path of D:User?? .....or is something else amiss??
how to change my account type back to administrator but with no luck.
I have been running this laptop as my main machine for a few months now with no problems, however, I realised I had a problem when I wanted to change some networking settings on Friday when the UAC said I needed admin privileges and wouldn't let me enter a password or click "Yes", hence not allowing me to go any further.
I went to control panel > User accounts and saw my account type has been changed to Guest.
Now I have thought long and hard and I have not changed or had any need to change my account type to guest, nor has anyone else had access to my laptop, so I can only assume this has been done in the last week or so during a Windows update.
I'll tell you what I did to try to resolve this below:
First of all I tried to enable the hidden administrator account while in my account by running command prompt as admin (and then entering net user Administrator /active:yes) but as I don't have admin privileges I couldn't even open the command prompt so I couldn't get any further.
After reading around the net and this forum I found this thread and gave it a try. After restarting the laptop and booting into safe mode I was expecting to see and Administrator account next to my account at the log in screen, however, there was only the administrator account to choose from, so I clicked it and it went through the first time initialisation of the account and then showed me the start menu, I then went to run the command prompt as admin and it worked, I entered net user Administrator /active:yes which worked with no problems. I then went to the user accounts in control panel to "Manage other accounts" but my usual account was nowhere to be found. So I thought I'd restart the laptop and see what happens out of safe mode.
When it restarted I was still only presented with the admin account, so I logged in to disable the hidden by entering net user Administrator /active:no in the command prompt run as admin and then restarted.
After restarting again I was expecting to see my account but was still presented with only the admin account, but when I clicked on it it said it was disabled and I was completely locked out of windows.
Luckily I created a restore point so I managed to restore my settings, and was back at square one.
After a bit of testing it seems my main user account is being removed when I enter safe mode, but do nothing else. Why entering safe mode is removing my account.
I am at a bit of a loss as I can't seem to activate admin privileges on my account, but if i try to fix it I lose my account completely.
