The borders of any current window that is open turns black. May it be a web browser, application, or explorer. The background of the taskbar menu is black as well. When i click on the menu bar or any application (web browser, software app) it flickers. When I open the task manager the whole window flickers. When I right-click on something the menu flickers too.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 8.1 pre-installed. First question is how do i enable a confirm window to pop up when deleting something? I don't like how i can just hit delete and it moves it (Only to the recycle bin, but i'd rather it didn't).
Secondly how do i stop the start menu from switching to that Windows 8 menu view? I did originally change it so that when you click the start menu (Bottom left in) it would actually bring up the start menu, but it seems to have reverted. On top of this how do i change it so that pressing the Windows button brings up the start menu rather than the Windows 8 menu view thing?
Thirdly how do i enable file details when in Windows Explorer. So in Windows 7 when you select a file it would give the size, name, author, date last edited etc in the details pane. How do i get that now?
Finally, how do i change my task bars transparency?
Every 5 minuets or so my desktop goes completely blank, i loose icons, background, task-bar, (time, date, keyboard input selection) only thing that stays is the far right icons that stay (battery, internet connection, volume)
What causes this or why it occurs .....
I have two screens and my current settings are: I got my taskbar on both screens with the opened windows in it's own taskbar.
This is good, but I just miss one thing: I can't attach a program/shortcut to the taskbar that is not my main screen/taskbar.
So I have to go to my main screen to open a program from my taskbar.
I'm running Windows 8 and for the last day or so, the windows icon, bottom left of the taskbar, is not working - it is there, but white - I'm sure it was yellow or so before, and it doesn't work. My windows key is working fine, but I've gotten used to the icon - especially if getting out of, say, a game and wanting to go back to the main screen. Also the right hand top hot key is also not working. What do I have to do to get these back again? I've tried cleaning the registry etc, - would it do a system restore?
Later......Actually it seems to have sorted itself....after trying lots of things, I was doing an update, and got a message that there was a problem, and it was shutting down and rebooting. Anyhow it seems to be working again. Now I know - if it happens again, I'll switch off and reboot!
ok basically, if you look at the pic im providing, you can see how skype is grouping multiple windows in the taskbar consistantly and its the only program thats having this issue

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently converted to Windows 8(.1) from 7. When I had seven I'd play games in windowed (borderless) mode and tab out to my other monitor. It left behind a taskbar at the bottom overlaying the game I was previously on. I found this actually kinda useful. Now in Windows 8 it only shows if I tab to a program on the same monitor as the game, and not if I tab to a program on my other monitor. Is there any way to change this?

Is there a way to disable the taskbar from showing on all my extra monitors? I only need it on my main screen, I do not need/want it on my other 3 screens as it takes away from the total resolution of the screen.
Hiding the task bar is not an option.
The time is not shown correctly in my task bar, this happened for second time, when it happened a month ago, I just changed the time.
When I re-booted it shows the correct time.
The Tiles on my Windows 8 Start Screen are suddenly showing annoying thick border when I move the cursor over them, so is the user name in the top right corner. How can I stop this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 17" 1920x1080 monitor, and everything was too small, so I've change the display size to 125%, by default it was on 100% , and now some icons on the taskbar are blurry.
I don't want to change the display size to 100%, I just wanna make the icon sizes smaller. Is there any solution?
In other verisons of windows the tiles on the taskbar would be in order from time. If i opened Google Chrome, and then Adobe, and then another Google Chrome instance it would look that way. Now however it "groups" the two Google Chrome ones near other, and the Adobe one on the left. Anyway to change that?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have my installation of Windows 8.1 desktop taskbar set to never combine, use small icons and locked. With XP I could pin a program to the taskbar, click it once and the program would open. Click the program icon a second time and a new instance of the program would open. With Win 8.1 if you click the icon the second time the window simply minimizes. How can I restore the old XP behavior. I realize that I can right-click on the icon after one instance is open and open another instance of the program. However, that is an additional step that is a pain in the butt.
I should add that I use the latest version of Classic Shell and have look through the settings and don't see any that can change this behavior.
(At least the Recycle Bin can be removed without a registry edit hack. These have always been my top 2 peeves of Windows.)
From the desktop view I simply want to look down and to the right to see the "Sunday, September 8, 2013 - 2:17PM" I see now ... but have to move my mouse over there and hover over it first. Why would I want to have to do that?
It wasn't possible in XP (that I know of) not without having to expand your taskbar to twice the width. (And let's face it, there is nothing quite as intimidating as a big huge fat thick taskbar.)
When I leave my computer for an extended period of time, after returning the screen is sometimes blank. I know that everything is still on, the screen just won't come on. I know things are still running in the background because when I restart my computer by pressing the reset button (the only thing that works), when I boot back into Windows a few seconds later and relog into an IRC channel I was in before, my old nick gets ghosted. If my old nick was still in IRC this means my computer was still on and working fine until I hit the reset button - screen being blank was the only issue.
I've tried multiple things, such as hitting the "wake" button on the keyboard. I've checked my power settings carefully, modified them, but still no luck. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to this behavior, it either happens or it doesn't, and the time period it takes for it to happen seems random. Browser session auto-recovery.

Laptop refuses to screenblank and also to go to sleep. I've tried the usual by going to Power Options and making sure everything is in sync there but not works.
Will the download work in Windows 8.1. I am referring to what is pasted below ...

To Enable Sleep in "Windows To Go" Workspace NOTE: This is the default setting.
I just get a blank screen when I try to see "All Apps". Also, when I click on search and then apps, the cursor jumps out of the search box instantly when I type any letter, and then that screen is blank too.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy friend's computer has a hardware fault, and so I removed the drive to copy things off of it. I put it in an external enclosure, and it has 3 partitions. 1 is a HP tools one, another is a recovery partition, and the third is the main one named SYSTEM. It seems to be blank however, including hidden files, yet it says it's about 50% full. How can I get them to show up?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI followed the tutorial on this site for scannow. When completed (no errors), I typed exit at the command prompt. I have only a blank screen with functioning mouse pointer. When restarting I get the hp logo, then the windows "please wait" icon for about one second then it goes black. I originally cloned windows from my sea gate 1Tb hhd to the toshiba ssd. I can boot from the hhd with no issues. Just won't boot from ssd. I would run the recovery disc but it claims I need 140 Gb to do so and I only have 128Gb.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSome of my movie files (file type doesn't matter) became corrupted; when I play them in VLC they cause errors, they were just fine before and nothing has changed. I noticed in Explorer that these files have no Date Modified field, it's simply blank; I've never seen anything like that.
I did a chkdsk on the drive and see no errors. What could it be ?
I was running Win. 7 Pro and used the online purchase to upgrade (which I think turned into a Clean Install?) via .iso file.
I'm pretty sure there was content in the Settings and Files screens? It should have listings?
I lost the Apps as well (blank). I KNOW they were there, so I did a Refresh.
All Apps came back, but Settings and Files are still blank.
I have been having a persistent, but seemingly random problem with Windows 8 desktop mode. Periodically, all GUIs that are open on my desktop will turn completely black (blank) inside the frame and remain that way. I can still move the black windows around, minimize them, and close them, but I need to sign out and log back in to get them to look normal again. The computer does not crash and the Windows "Charms" still appear and seem to work fine. This has happened many times over a couple of weeks.
I looked in the Event Viewer when this happens and the only thing I see that might be related to the time when this occurs is this information message:
The Desktop Window Manager has exited with code (0xd00002fe)
After a update last night I put my password in and then the screen went blank all I have is the mouse pointer, I removed the battery and did the Sony vaio assist button I can put my p/w in then the screen goes blank I tried the f8 and f10 key but nothing happens ...
View 9 Replies View RelatedUpgraded to Windows 8 from XP a couple of months ago.
Everything's fine except on occasion it loads up blank, like it's just been newly installed. It takes longer to boot when this happens (a couple of minutes as opposed to ~10-15 seconds). It still signs into my profile as normal, but then I'm displayed with this Metro Desktop screen:
If I right click> all apps then everything appears to still be there. A restart solves this and it loads normally.
After installing Google Chrome and making it my default browser, I looked on the Start Screen and could not find a Chrome tile. The All Apps screen did have one and when I right clicked it, it indicated that it was on the Start Screen as it had the "Unpin from Start" icon. After trying various methods of getting it to show up, I did unpin it, which also removed it from the All Apps screen of course, then did a search for Chrome, started Chrome and then closed Chrome. When I then tried to go back to the Start Screen to see if there was a Chrome tile, I was greeted by a totally empty screen. I rebooted Win 8 and everything came back normal (I hope) but now with a Chrome tile.
