Browsers/Mail :: IE Has Been Stopped And Will Not Work?
Sep 2, 2013
when I try to open IE. a small window pops up and says IE has been stopped and will not work. What should I do to get it to start working again?
Firefox works but has at the bottom right and left of the screen two vibrating windows telling me I need to update a program that is already updated. Plus, has a x and HIDE button, but only hides the screen a little over a quarter of the way.
Chrome I hate to say works pretty good, but everytime I open it three small Malware windows open at the Top Right of the screen one on top of the other and my Malware program blocks it to be Quarantined !
Since 48 hours, for all new mails incoming, the hyperlinks (either mail adress or www adresses) won't even be clickable in the mail messages... They show up as normal text, and I have to select, copy and paste them into my browser...
The links are still there fot the less recent mails (those recieved last week)
I really hav'nt changed anything in my settings.. I am syncing a gmail account. The hyperlinks will work in Outlook, and even in my Windows Phone mail app, so I doubt it has anything to do with gmail itself...
I have a similar problem with EI 11 on my PC with Windows 8.1, which is fully updated. It happens whenever I try to "Save as" a download or to print a web page.
So far I have reset it, opened it as administrator and turned off smart screen filter - to no effect.
Should I try to disable EI from the Uninstall Programs - Turn Windows on or off?
I have been always a Microsoft person. But I have tried any and all fixes to try and get internet explorer to stop coming up with internet explorer has stopped working will search for a problem.
I as of today have disabled it and are using another browser that does not have this bug in it. I am having no trouble with the browser I am using, and it does not stop working like ie 11. I do not think you should have to go threw all hoops and loops to get this to work correctly. Microsoft should come up with something that works correctly all the time and you do not have to check add ins, disable other items or what not.
(Windows 8.1). I have seen a problem quite like this. IE is not my default browser. I uncovered this due to an application that is hard coded top open IE. When I open IE nothing happens. When I enter a url it just sits there like it is not connected to the Internet. No errors, nothing. When I click on the gear everything is grayed out except File, Safety and View compatibility settings. I cannot get into settings. My first thought was corrupted files. I ran SFC /scannow and no errors are reported. Also did a DSIM restorehealth.
I am stumped at this point. I have turned off IE and brought it back to no avail using the Windows Features turn off/on option. If this was any other application I would delete and re-install but this is IE. Any attempt to download and install another version is blocked by MS indicating that it is already installed. Everything appears to be operating just fine except IE.
My desktop icons/links to Facebook, Ebay, Google, Emails, etc, all worked yesterday, now none will work. I get a pop-up error message displaying the link and stating "unspecified error".
For some reason I can see my Outlook email but when I try to send any emails they automatically get sent to the draft folder and sit there. I also have a Gmail account set up but same problem.
I upgraded my desktop PC, to Win 8.0 Pro then 8.1 Pro, a couple of weeks back. All has been working quite well with two user profiles, both using Firefox as their default browser. A few day ago, after taking a lunch break and waking the PC from sleep mode in the second user profile, Firefox opened with an empty screen; no menu or bookmarks bars and no response when left clicking the menu button. If I used the Alt button on the keyboard to bring up the traditional menu bar, I could temporarily restore the menu and bookmarks bars but they would disappear again on rebooting Firefox. In the second user profile, the menu button never shows a drop-down menu by left-clicking but it does respond normally with a right-click.
However, the presentation on screen is all wrong because the menu bars disappear each time I shut down and can only be restored by using F10>View>Menu bar. If I put a url in the search box and hit Enter, the web site is found and can be explored normally. I have tried deleting the defective Windows user, rebooted Windows and created another user. Unfortunately, the problem with Firefox persists for the new user but the primary user still has no difficulty and Firefox works perfectly there.
In the process, I also tried resetting Firefox but that seemed to have no effect. This investigation has already taken up one week of research with other FF users but absolutely nothing has worked. I have:
1. Run 3 different virus scans. 2. Run sfc /scannow. 3. Deleted and re-installed FF. 4. Deleted all the profile files I could find.
I have a windows 8 laptop, and I was on internet explorer this morning when I was prompted to shut it (this is because of what I was doing, however I know what I was doing was safe as it was checked by Norton and done by may other people, not just me). However, one it shut error messages kept popping up saying internet explorer has stopped working, and the were coming up 30 at a time. As of now, I can click on internet explorer just fine from the app-like view, however what I want to do needs the desktop version, which crashes within seconds of me opening it. The error messages will then start popping up, and the internet is just unusable in desktop mode.
I upgraded from windows 7 ultimate to windows 8 pro keeping my windows settings, personal files and apps as it is..the upgrading went smooth... but whenever i open IE10 it stops working and says "we're unable to return to..." I even troubleshooted it's performance.... but no luck
Before upgrading i ran the upgrade assistant, and it said inte(r) network connections isn't compatible with the OS... so i completely removed it...then installed Windows 8
SyncPlaces 5.1.0C to work with ftp? No matter how I chop the path on the server when I upload bookmarks I get "transfer in progress" then it's overwritten in the dialog with "path not found."
I recently upgraded to 8.1 and cannot send or receive email. I have the latest Thunderbird and have not altered any settings. I have uninstalled Thunderbird and reinstalled it and tried to google the problem.
How do I get web sites with audio that uses media players such as WMA to work? Whenever I go to a web site that my old Windows 7 desktop would play with Windows Media player the new laptop doesn't play the audio at all. It works fine with flash, but just not the media player. Do I just not have something enabled or have they changed something in the new OS?
I want to use Internet Explorer in metro mode, but whenever I set Chrome as my default browser, this causes IE to only open in desktop mode ? Why can I only have use IE in metro mode if it is the default browser ?
When I click on a link needing Adobe Flash from within a Metro app, I get a message that I need to install adobe flash. However if I access the same content from within the desktop's IE, it will play.
I have the feeling I'm missing just a switch or something.
Have just downloaded Windows 8.1. Although IE11 on desktop snaps open, and Google shows up OK, searches for simple things like Zone Alarm or Avast anti-virus say can't be connected despite trouble shooter saying the net is configured OK. In fact no searches seem to work through Google.
Direct links to various web sites like Java work OK which confirms the net is set up right.
I have a fairly new Dell with windows 8.1 on it. Internet explorer stopped working all of a sudden the other day. No warning at all. When I open the desktop version, nothing happens at all. No tab, no pageload, nothing.I can click the gear and only file, safety, and compatibility view settings are available. I have reset internet explorer settings to no avail through internet options. ?I have scanned with a few different tools and nothing has fixed it. Also, the window outline colors have turned to a reddish pink.
I am having trouble with my computer. A message pops up that Catalyst control center: host application has stopped working. And my PC will inform me when it is working. So I try to restart but it says that the host application is preventing the computer from restarting even though I know that it is not turned on. The problem is that it slows down my computer and even after I think I have solved it it goes back to not working.
The problem has caused me to not being able to use the internet. Also on occasion, when attempting to restart or shut down it took longer than 10 hours (I did not wait for it to complete I then manually shut it down). I have tried resetting it to a date where my computer functioned fine several times but it only solves the problem for a short period.

I was using my Gmail account with the Windows 8 Mail App and it was all working fine until I updated it through the store yesterday (I haven't updated it before so I don't know what version of the app I am now using). Today when I try and access my folders I just getting a message saying 'no messages from the last 2 weeks', meaning I cannot access all those useful emails that I have kept on purpose without using gmail through chrome. I have looked through the settings and cannot find if there is a way to change this - is there? Or can I un-install the update and just go back to using the old version, and if so, how would I do this.
I have Windows 8.1 n I can receive mail, but I cannot send any mail this happened after downloading the new updates Why? Oue local Postmaster rejects it Why?
When ever I click a mailto link in either Chrome, IE, Firefox and Opera it opens up a new chrome browser window. Before I installed windows 8 I had it opening up Outlook 2010 new email, now it opens up a new Chrome browser window.
How do I change it in windows 8 to when I click a link in any browser to open up Outlook 2010 new email as it did before?
I have been struggling to insert a photo as part of a signature and was trying out various options when I found I could no longer try different pictures because the Single Photo option was suddenly missing from the top menu.
The Photo Album option still exists but where has the Single Photo option gone?
I need this because I insert a lot of photos in my emails.....
When I click on email links on websites, instead of my mail program coming up with the address in the "to" line, I get a mail sign in page. To avoid it, I have to right click and copy email address, then go to my mail program and paste it in.
My parents bought a PC last year running Windows 8. I set up there talktalk E mail accounts in the Windows 8 Native E mail client from the Mail tile at the start screen without any problem. All worked fine until recently when in order to download an app they had to register an Outlook E Mail address. Not sure if they had updates applied as well but they had to start logging on to the PC at boot up every time using a password. In an effort to resolve this they restored the PC to an earlier time which has cured the logging on issue (ie no password required) but when they access the Mail tile from the start screen it is an outlook E Mail account that comes up. I have tried without success logging into this outlook account and then adding the talktalk accounts. I even tried using my own account but could not add that either.
All they want is to click the Mail tile and get there talktalk accounts to come up just as before (no outlook or hotmail or anything else). Is there a way to reset the E Mail client/tile in Windows 8 back to what came with PC so that I could set it up just as I did when the PC was purchased. They are running Windows 8 and do not wish to restore back to factory settings as they have a few other bits and pieces of software installed. If they upgrade to Windows 8.1 will they be forced into using a password to log on every time ?
I am using the mail app in Windows 8 fine on one laptop (Windows 8.1), but on my other one the program has started to just close in the middle of reading a mail, or when I click the delete mail button.
I cannot remove my Windows Live email account so whenever I want to send email, I had to click on the "Gmail" tab first then compose email and I don't want this because it's somehow not efficient.
I use the default Windows 8.1 Mail client but I never used my Windows Live account.
Is there any ways to remove Windows Live email or at least make Gmail as the default email address on Windows Mail?
Is there any way to connect my Gmail account to the Mail Metro App without having to use my Live ID? I have absolutely no desire to tie all my stuff to a MS Live ID. Just want to be able to check my mail.
I have already installed Skype desktop to get around the Live ID crap for the metro version, and I will install Thunderbird if needed, but if I can find a way around it I will use the built in mail client.
