Browsers/Mail :: Windows 8.1 - Web Pages Running Slow On All Browsers
Jan 28, 2014I have windows 8.1 it was working fine for a good while but now web pages can be slow loading or dont load at all, if i hit F5 some pages will then load.
I have googled this problem & tried many different possible solutions but none have worked, this problem happens at home on my broadband & at work so i dont think its anything to do with the router.
I have ran malwarebytes & avast many times, the 1st run of malwarebytes it found 2 objects but since they have been removed everything has been clear.

Jun 17, 2014Kept ignoring prompts to upgrade to 8.1. Finally went ahead and did it and now neither IE or Chrome will load web pages. The programs themselves open but nothing happens. Not even a "can't load page" message. I am connected to the internet and I tried a few apps that seemed to work as normal. I've found this question online and followed a few instructions that didn't work. One worked for a minute but it went back. I'm not super tech savvy so I don't even know what it did, just followed some command prompts. I contacted Samsung support and they had me turn off IE under "turn windows features on or off" and turn it back on. It worked. For about two minutes. Now nothing again.

Sep 15, 2014 I have a problem with my new laptop i have recently bought. Dell Inspiron 7537 15inch OS 8.1 (after upgrade from 8.0) 16gb RAM, Samsung SSD SM 841 256gb. Lets go to the point - When i try to load a page, usually i have to refresh that page, because i get an error like "No connection" or sometimes it loads only HTML code. Almost always i cant see any pictures in Facebook, only broken links. Same is happening to the ads(if i am lucky enogh to see anything except html code). Its happening with all browsers i have: IE, CHROME, MOZZILA. I will upload pictures if needed.
Things i have done:
I installed a malware anrivirus, and performed a cleanup.
I disabled all "Startup" features from Task manager.
I started the laptop in Safe mode with network - it didn't work.
I updated the WiFi drivers, from intel website.
I reinstalled the browsers, and cleaned all ( history, cache, cookies, etc ).
I've mentioned the model of the laptop because i saw that many users from Dell and Samsung were claiming about same issue. I didnt notice if the browsers were working fine in OS 8 because i updated it immediately. I think a software or other is corrupting the connection. I have a phone and other laptop, and they are working fine with my home WiFi.
I forgot to say that i bought the laptop with OS 8 installed and i dont have a windows disc for repair. Is it necessary that?

Apr 19, 2014Web pages freeze some of the time while loading. I have to use "refresh" in order to get the page to load totally. This freeze problem only occurs while I am on the internet and does not take place when I am running programs other than on the internet. It happens when using either IE or Chrome.

Oct 21, 2013My browser of choice is Firefox but I have the same problems in Chrome also. First a little background. I'm running Windows 8.1 for the last month and up until 1 week ago I had Roadrunner light with download speeds around 9 to 10 Mbps. Last week I upgraded to higher speed Roadrunner and am now getting download speeds of around 35 Mbps consistently.
Now my problem: Several forum pages that I frequent USED to load instantly and when clicking on a post would load instantly. Now certain pages may take up to 45 seconds to 1 minute or sometimes not at all. This happens most of the time but not all the time. This happens whether I'm using Firefox, Chrome or IE. I have cleared cookies, history, search, cache in an attempt to solve this problem.

Aug 12, 2014I am not able to load any pages using Firefox or Internet explorer. I have tried resetting my windsock and itp and it still won't work. I've also tried deleting any 3rd party firewalls I had but that didn't work either. I just got this laptop a week ago too so ya.

Nov 30, 2013After upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1, Internet pages and emails load slowly. After reporting this to a 2nd level MS Support person, he still hasn't fixed it though he has spent a lot of time on it so far. I finally Googled about the issue and found that many others were having the same problem. I have heard that disabling IPv6 has corrected the problem. I tried it but I couldn't do the last step to create a new DWord. After upgrading, I installed the latest drivers for the motherboard.t's about like the days of dial-up modems! Why can't Microsoft resolve this issue soon? I have checked my Internet connection for "speed" and it's not the problem. The only thing I changed was the OS.

Jun 10, 2014I'm running Win 8.1 with IE 11 and for some reason, my homepage started to show up a about:blank. I go to Internet Options to fix this (MSN.com) and hit Apply. It looks like the change is made, but when I close the Options window and reopen it, the about:blank page shows up again in the homepage URL field. The same problem occurs if I simply close and reopen the browser. Rebooting didn't work and I got an error message that System Restore couldn't do a restore for my last restore point for some reason.
How do get the browser to save my homepage URL? Can I re-install IE 11 if there is no other option?

Jan 24, 2014I have 8.1 I open Gmail. there I open a PDF doc. Pr a pic. Or a Microsoft word doc. I see the doc. On the bottom of my tablet screen I see the option of open with... or download. and some triangle thing. it offers apps to open with (none ate adobe or Ms word). none are the adobe I have. It wants me to go to the store. when I tap download nothing happens. when I hit the triangle. It wants me to go to the store again.

Aug 1, 2014I am using IE 11 desktop.
In Settings/Internet Options/General I entered an address to be used as my home page by clicking 'Use Current'.
I also selected 'Start with Home Page', applied the settings and Ok'ed.
On the Home Page icon on the toolbar I elected to 'Use this page as your only home page'.
Just to avoid the obvious question: Yes, I WAS on the page I wanted to use as my home page when I took these actions.
But every time I open IE I get a blank tab and these settings have disappeared and have to be added again...and again...every day.

Dec 26, 2013The IE default home page of Dell Venue Pro 11 is MSN. The link is: MSN.com. The OS is running win 8.1 and IE is ver 11.
I went to settings of IE from the desktop and changed the default from MSN to Google.com . However this did not work It keeps defaulting back to MSN.
I did a quick scan with Malwarebytes , no malware that I know of .

Jul 9, 2014I've installed Windows 8.1 Home Premium on my parents laptop and I'm now trying to set up their email account.
It is a non MS account which Windows 8 doesn't seem to allow me to create. I've searched for a solution but they seem to require the Local Group policy to be edited and as far I've researched home premium doesn't include the management function to do so.
Does this mean if you are using Windows 8.1 Home Premium you are tied to using a MS mail account.

Jul 13, 2014I am new to Windows 8. I emailed myself a .jpg photo as an email attachment (in yahoo email), from a different computer. When I try to save the attached photo to my own computer, the options are to save as "webpage complete" or as "HTML." I don't want to do either of those. I want to save it as a .jpg-format image in a folder of my choice on my computer.
Also, when I click on the attached photo, it opens in some unnamed Windows 8 imaging app that takes up the whole screen. I don't know what I am supposed to do with it (there are no explanations or options, or even any text that tells what the app is called or what it is supposed to be doing), and I can't get rid of it unless I press the keyboard key with the picture of a window on it, and then get back into my browser (Chrome). If I knew the name of this intrusive imaging app, maybe I could uninstall it, or at least reconfigure Windows 8 to make it save images in the format I want them in and in the folder where I want it to save them, so I can manipulate them the way I want to (in my case, with Paint Shop Pro).

Sep 16, 2013I have Windows 8 home with IE 10. I want to DISABLE selective browser history deletion (open history, right-click-delete certain websites). I don't have gpedit.msc but I believe it falls under the "Prevent User from deleting websites visited" or something along those lines. I found a registry key edit "CleanHistory" and I have changed the value back and forth from 0 and 1 but it still hasn't stopped me from being able to selectively delete. I found the registry key on multiple websites so I imagine it's supposed to work but it just isn't. User error, perhaps?
