Audio :: Horrible Sound Quality When Increase Volume
Feb 25, 2013Whenever I increase the volume the sound is really horrible, like from cheap $3 speakers. The sound is NOT clear at all. I tested the same files (mp3, FLAC) on another device and it is just great.

Audio :: Disable Sound Volume Control In Windows 8
Jun 23, 2013What I want is actually the opposite of what most people are looking for. I want to install windows 8 on my kids computer but want the volume level to be set at a certain level so the sound is not to high no matter what they do.
I am able to achieve this right now as the desktop is on XP and i have the wave bar set to a certain level so no matter how high they put the volume bar it just stays at a certain level.I have hidden the wave bar so they cannot even get at it by mistake.
The main thing is that I am using a sidewinder X4 keyboard which has the vol+/- so they can easily increase the volume even if I hide the volume tab from the desktop in windows 8, while in XP it remained a certain lvel even if they put it upto 100%.
I have been searching for win 8 mixers where I could maybe have the same type of control as the XP but so far have found nothing.
Audio :: Duplicate Sound Device Entries In Volume Mixer
Jan 1, 2014Basically I have an ASus ux301la (zenbook infinity) and i noticed that after installing Displaylinks software (port replicator software) my default sound device was called (USB AUDIO) and that my Realtek sound device kind of went missing (no sound devices on the playback tab in the sound settings). I had no backups at teh time as its a new laptop and i really dont want to re-install 8.1 from scratch as it took me over a day to configure this thing to my personal config.
So I uninstalled the diplaylink software and uninstalled/reinstalled the sound drivers from the asus site and each time i did so it would create a new sound entry, hence all teh duplicates. Now i still have a problem because although sound works, i have to manually select the correct playback device in VLC player and I cannot see any sound devices in the playback tab on SOUND settings.
Audio :: Sound Blaster ZxR And Toslink - No System Volume Control
Jul 30, 2014Before installing my new Sound Blaster ZxR I had to temporarily use the Onboard Sound of my Asus Rampage IV Black Edition because of a SLI Water cooling component blocking the necessary PCI Port of the former Sound Card ( a Sound Blaster Recon3D Fatal1ty Professional ).
Because of the cracking ( grounding loop? ) I receive during the startup when using 3.5mm jacks ( or 1/4" with the ZxR ) I stopped using them whenever possible and instead started using the Toslink connection on both the Recon3D AND the RIVBE as it electrically disconnects the PC from the Sound System.
Now here comes the Problem: Using the new Sound Blaster ZxR and having it connected via Toslink to my Sound System I'm not able to control the Volume using.. Multimedia Keys on my KeyboardVolume Mixer from the TaskbarEven Muting isn't possible
The only way to change the Volume level from now on has been by doing one of the following four.. Change the Volume level by Hand in the corresponding App itself, not the overall System Volume - Kind of sucksUsing the Hardware Dial on my Speaker System - Hard to reachSwitch from Toslink to Jacked Cables - Startup cracking

Switching the default Playback Device from Speakers to Digital Audio (S/PDIF) - Will cause me to loose the ability to run Encoders like Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect and it's DTS Neo:PC Music Mode feature which, in my opinion, really improves my listening experience as it then uses all my Satellites, not just the front ones.
I'm not sure how my settings were while still using the Recon3D that allowed me to go Toslink while still being able to change the System Volume simply by using the Multimedia Keys of the Keyboard.

Mar 4, 2014I have had Windows 8.1 64 bit in my computer for about two months now and everything was working fine..ive noticed last month that after one of the updates (possibly Skydrive icon update) that my windows start up sound wasn't working when I start my computer from a cold boot. Interestingly the sound does work again once im in the OS and I do a restart. I went into sounds and made sure the check mark to play start up sound was clicked btw.
It was working fine before one of the updates. (Also just to note that I set the option to boot directly to desktop and also I changed my user account where i dont see the login screen and it bypasses the password to boot quicker into the desktop.)
The reason why im wondering this is because I have a dz77ga-70k intel motherboard and when I cold boot im noticing a post code 40 on the motherboard when usually it should be 00...funny part is that just as I mentioned before with audio once I do a restart it goes back to normal with a 00 post code. I think its related to an update and something to do with windows not starting correctly from a cold boot.

Sep 15, 2014I have the laptop as stated above, i have had it a week and the user before me had decided to put on 7 instead of 8. i completely wiped and restored to windows 8.1, installed all sammy drivers and ensured it is all up to date.
the laptop had huge instability issues, the hdd was on its way out as mbr was damaged and the heads were ticking badly. then i found the ram was not secured in the sockets properly too. so i fixed it all!
Anyways back to the problem. i have the realtek hd audio drivers installed from sammy, reinstalled the ones from realtek themselves and still nothing.
Main issue, mic and speakers built in work and are fully detected. but the microphone port and headphone port are not detected, no matter what i plug into them.
Audio :: Microphone Volume Very Low?
Jun 23, 2013I've read that you have to go to the microphone, double click on it, go to the levels tab, and move the lever all the way up, as long as the boost lever. I don't have the boost. Only the microphone is present as you can see in the screenshot. That doesn't work.
I just downloaded Windows 8 last Thursday so all of my updates are installed. I updated to the latest drivers for my sound card thing, which I guess is intergrated. Now, before you tell me it's my mic, before Windows 8 I was using xubuntu until I could afford Windows 8. My microphone was fine. It picked up great. I could hide it behind my monitor (which is atleast 3 or 4 feet away) and it would still pick up fine. Now in order for it to pickup my voice like it did behind the monitor I have to have it literally 1 cm away.

Audio :: Getting Random Volume Fluctuations
Jun 28, 2013I've been having random volume fluctuations with things like youtube and iheart radio, as well as the occasional games. I've been searching the forums for a solution but the closest i can find is on the W7 forums, (Volume level continuously changes - Windows 7 Forums), which is the same problem I'm having with windows 8 pro. The last post on that thread is from September of 2012, so really I'm just curious if any new info or solutions have been made available. Like the op in that thread I as well disabled my communications and turned of the enhancements. I also uninstalled my audio drivers, restarted, and when it rebuilt the drivers they were newer than the ones i had. (Realtek 6.2.9200.16497, current driver) Yet still the problem persists. Team Speak 3 is the only web voice chat service i use, but that's only on when running a game.

So as you can see that bar there is putting my volume automatically up to 100% every single time I touch it. Also, recently this has made the computer unable to drag the top or side or have any Windows 8 features available this includes both Windows buttons on my keyboard. I have tried cleaning my keyboard as that seemed to work last time on fixing this problem for maybe a month, however it worked for only an hour this time. It also seems note worthy that I cannot capitalize these letters at all: z x c v m , . and then I can't capitalize certain letters with certain shift bars so I can capitalize s with my left shift but not my right this happens with many other letters too but the ones I listed above cannot be capitalized at all.

Example, when actors in movies just talking then volume is ok, but if there a war scene then volume jumping up.

Jan 9, 2014I have Windows 8.1 x64 and the following:
Radeon HD5450
Samsung TV connected via HDMI to graphics card
AMD HDMI High Definition Audio Device
Realtek HD audio
I have a strange problem that has not always been there but just recently if I don't have any sounds for about 5 minutes the HDMI audio seems to go into some sort of suspended mode and when I click on (generate) a sound (either system or music etc) it takes about 30 seconds for the sound to actually appear (manifest itself) through the Samsung TV speakers.
At first I thought it might be some conflict with the Realtek HD audio so I have disabled this (mobo built-in sound) in the BIOS and uninstalled the realtek drivers. This did not work.
I then thought it was probably an update to the Sound drivers or the graphics drivers for the ATI / AMD Sound card. I have installed the latest catalyst drivers and this did not work. I then fully uninstalled the catalyst drivers including the HDMI Audio and installed an earlier version 9.2.00 from 2012. This did not work either.
The only Playback Audio Device I have in the Sound settings is Digital Audio (HDMI) and I have tried disbling all audio enhancements. This did not work.
Please note that this happens even if I am using the computer (i.e. the screen can be on all of the time and it still happens after a few minutes).
Other things I have tried:
Power Config - disabled Link State Power Management for the PCIe card
One think I have observed (and I am not sure if this is a symptom or a cause) - The "Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation" process uses about 3-4% CPU while the 30 seconds or so elapses between the sound being invoked and it playing through the speakers. the rest of the sstem is relatively in idle. I can reproduce this by clicking on the sound and adjusting the volume a tad. It is meant to make an immediate "bing" sound to show the sound level is clicked or changed.
If I wait the 30 seconds then the sound eventually comes and then if I click on it again (or do other sound related things) then the sounds are instantaneous. Its only of I leave it 5 minutes or so with no sound activity. If I wait, say, 2 minutes the sound is instant too so long as their has been a sound event in the prior 5 minutes or so.

Basically before i could control all the computer volume but now when i go to volume mixer there is a lot of stuff open and then i need to control each volume for each application...
I want to be able to remove all applications and be able to put louder my volume with only one slider. Here is a picture of the problem:
The Device is my Headset a Logitech G930. when try to turn the volume louder on this slider:
Doesn't get louder like the headphone used to get.
Audio :: Change (reduce) Maximum Volume?
Sep 3, 2013So, the system volume in the system tray goes from 1-100. 1 is comfortable. 3 is loud. 6 is ear-splitting.
Is there anyway I can redefine the values for the system volume and set the maximum to like... 10?
Any time I hit the volume buttons on my keyboard to lower the volume, it goes from 1 to 0 and I can't hear anything, so I hit the volume up button and it goes from 0 to 3 and it's way too loud.
Right now, I have the volume set to about 3 most of the time, with individual apps' volume controls set really low (like a game set to volume "0.5" out of 100).
This is just ridiculous. There must be a way to redefine the value for the system volume. Some settings file I can edit or something, if not a nice GUI method.
Audio :: HP Beats - Volume Is Set At A Certain Level In Windows 8
Oct 5, 2013My new laptop seems hardwired to think that if I set the volume to 20, so long as I have headphones in, I want my volume at 20 for all sounds, ever. This makes music which varies from quiet and loud feel extremely alien and even ruins the feel of some videos and games. But it's most notable when watching a youtube video and I change the volume. Turning it up makes the video louder for a split second before returning to what it was, turning it down? Well, that works for a few seconds and returns to being too loud.
My new laptop uses HP Beats Audio. While I'm currently blaming Windows 8 for this problem, it'd be silly not to mention it. Unfortunately, a google search didn't get me any answer for beats either except how to uninstall it.
This doesn't happen on my old Laptop, which runs Windows 7 and appears to lack a special audio device. Looking online for a fix has only returned me nonsense about Windows 8 reducing volume for communications devices (a feature which I have off). In my search, I found this bit of information from Winsupersite.com:
"Incidentally, Windows 8 new Metro-style volume controls lack many of the more sophisticated controls that are available via the desktop. There's no way to control the volume of individual Metro-style apps, for example, and that's true of both the new Metro volume controls and the legacy desktop interfaces. Instead, the system automatically controls app volume, muting or lowering the volume of background apps when needed."
So... I suppose in short what I need to know is, how do I turn this "feature" off?
Audio :: Sound Stopped Working - Enable Fails Due To Duplicate In Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
Sep 15, 2014I have a windows 8 laptop and today the sound just stopped working. The windows audio service will not enable and everytime i try to enable it fails due to a duplicate in Windows Audio Endpoint Builder.
Now tricky part is i cant open control panel as it doesn't load, i tried reinstalling windows 8 but it also not load. This all was working perfectly just earlier today. I have no sound, just an x by the sound.
Audio :: Sound Stutters When Streaming Video Or Audio Online
Jul 27, 2013When I watch YouTube videos I get random stutters where the sound skips. The image doesn't seem to freeze though, just the sound
I also get issues with the sound streaming music online, where it pauses for a second and stutters even though it's not buffering.
When this happens, NT Kernel & System shoots up in task manager and uses more CPU than the browser. This by the way happens in every browser, IE, Chrome or Firefox.
It doesn't happen when playing music in iTunes or watching videos from my hard drive.
That being said I'm not posting about a buffering type stutter, I am aware of that and this is not it. This is like basically suddenly the computer has a big spike in memory or cpu usage and the video/sound clip stutters for a sec. But it happens often enough to be very annoying. In a 15 min YouTube clip it happened 10 times.
I have reinstalled my IDT High Definition Codec and my Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver, but still the problem persists.

Aug 12, 2013When using my computer and streaming netflix, i generally use my HD tv as my video card has audio built in over HDMI and i use it to stream movies to my HD tv ,with netflix app for windows 8. but on some movies the volume is totally Low and i have to crank my tv to here the voice leaving me with very loud music when it comes on. is there a solution to fixing this? i make my TV volume default when i watch netflix. How to make it louder. I have seen this thing called loudness equalization under enhancements on the HDMI audio would that do it or would it make more noise then do any good?.

Audio :: New USB Desktop Speakers - Can't Properly Control Volume
Sep 15, 2014I recently purchased the Polk Hampden Speakers. For some reason, the manual volume control built into the speakers themselves doesn't affect the volume level. The only way I can adjust the volume is by using my computers volume control software (the little white speaker in the bottom left of Windows 7/8). I am fairly certain the hardware volume control isn't broken, because when I first plugged them in ( a week or 2 ago) they worked fine. It wasn't until I disconnected/reconnected everything from my computer when I installed a new desk that this problem started.
However, even the software volume control isn't working properly either. In particular, when I go into the mixer to see the volume levels for each application, if I adjust the main "Device - speaker volume" it won't alter the specific applications volumes accordingly. Like, I can reduce the main - device speaker volume all the way to zero (not muted) and the applications will still have the same volume level as they did before I adjusted it.
Finally, even my keyboard bindings to the volume control are whacky. I can still adjust the "main - device speaker" volume with the keyboard, however since this "main - device speaker" volume no longer influences the individual application speaker volume level it is pointless to do so.
I have tried disabling all other sound drivers/sound hardware, but it doesn't work.
I have tried uninstalling/re-installing the USB drivers for the Hampdens which didn't work.
I have tried restarting the Microsoft Services responsible for audio output recognition which didn't work.
I have tried downloading the audio drivers specific for my motherboard, but that didn't work.
Additionally, applications sometimes don't recognize the speakers. If I start the application before turning on the speakers the application won't recognize the speakers unless I cycle through the speaker output modes (the little button under the volume knob) and get back to USB mode. Otherwise, I have to completely restart the application. This issue isn't as big of a problem as the manual volume control not affecting the volume output of the speakers.
I have tried uninstalling all my audio devices/drivers, but this doesn't seem to work. They just instantly re-install it appears.
Audio :: Volume Control On Speakers Becoming Static / Crackly?
Aug 27, 2013I have a couple of speakers I use with my Desktop computer.
On a previous set of speakers, the power button soon wore out, so with this current set, I have them on a power strip, and use that button.
I now see that the volume control on my speakers is becoming staticky / crackly.
So, I've started using the on-screen Volume control icon in the bottom right, to adjust the sound.
I have to click and open it every time though.
Is there a way to make the Volume control "on-top" all the time, or can some other program do this?

Feb 14, 2013The volume for media playback is way to low in windows I have tried everything from disabling enhancements, I also have installed SRS HD audio software also with low volume.
An audio booster, or anything that would boost SRS Audio output. I also after using the default driver provided by Windows 8, updated to the newest Realtek HD driver, and still no difference.
Audio :: Line In Missing From Volume Mixer After Reboot
Jun 11, 2014I have an audio source connected to Line In and I use the volume mixer to un-mute the input when I want to listen to the audio from that source. I recently started having a problem where after re-booting Line In does not show up in my volume mixer and I do not hear audio from the Line In Source even though I have listen to this device active. (during boot up I do hear the audio for a fraction of a second)
To get Line In to work and show up in the volume mixer again, I have to go to manage audio devices under control panel and select the record tab. from there I can see Line In and I see that it is set as the default device and I can see that there is audio based on the indicator bars to the right of Line In. I then have to go to the Listen tab for Line In and uncheck "Listen to this device" and click on Apply, then Check "Listen to this device" and Click Apply. After doing all of this the Audio can be heard and Line In appears on the Volume Mixer until the next reboot where I have to perform those steps all over again.
I have the latest drivers and all MS updates for Windows 8.1 on a Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD5H Motherboard with Realtek R3.87 Driver dated 5/13/2014...
Audio :: Recorded Sounds Are Auto Adjusting - Volume Will Randomly Go Up And Down
Apr 8, 2013When i try to record from my sound card the volume will randomly go up and down when i try to replay it.
When I try to record from my microphone in the microphone input port it gives an odd problem. Whenever I sustain a note it begins to record just fine but after about 2 seconds the volume adjusts down to about 20% of the original and continues to record. It does this in multiple sounds recording software programs. I have skype turned off and no other microphones hooked up. In the communications tab of the sounds menu I have set it to 'do nothing' but this had no effect. It seems like there is some sort of auto volume leveling thing going on but I cannot find where it would be. I have an HP desktop with beats audio not sure about the sound card otherwise.

Audio :: Suddenly Get No Sound From Pc?
Jul 22, 2014It's definitely not a hardware problem as one minute it's all working, then it suddenly stops. I've tried everything. My sound card drivers are all up to date, it also happens at the same time as youtube videos stop playing on google chrome (despite them loading), windows media player is unable to play and an error occured on youtube on firefox.
However after a few hours it finally lets me on the "configure speakers" setting and I click test and it begins to play sounds again, from then on it plays sound and loads videos.
Edit: When I click "test" it tells me "The device is being used by another application. Please close any devices that are playing audio to this device and then try again."
Audio :: No Sound From Speakers?
Jun 12, 2014Latest version of Windows 8 This will take a while A few months ago Windows 8 quit producing sound through my speakers - overnight. I've tried a number of things I'll list here. Volume Control - red 'x' in bottom right corner. AMD HDMI OUTPUT and HEADPHONES are checked. Troubleshooting Speakers/headphones produces "doesn't appear to be plugged in' - they are. See next sentence. Potential issues that were checked. Check audio device issue not present one or more audio services isn't running issue not present audio device is disabled issue not present I can plug the speakers into a Vista PC and hear music so I know(?) the speakers and cable are plugged in and OK. Device Manager>Sound,Video and Game Controls>AMD High Definition Audio Device = device is working properly. Using most recent driver - Rollback is disabled. I have two sets of audio inputs on the back of my PC. Tried them both (have always used the top ones). Someone suggested checking my sound card - don't know how to do that. One last thing . . . I found an MS article telling me to disable/enable the AMD. Did that but as soon as I disabled it, it disappeared.

Jul 2, 2013Yesterday, I bought a pair of Samson Studio GT studio monitors. which connect to my computer via USB. However, I'm only getting sound out of one monitor/speaker, that would be the right side with the power cable. I've checked the speaker wires and made sure they were hooked up correctly for polarity. There are no drivers for these speakers on SamsonTech.com. Windows sees everything correctly, as these speakers have a built in audio interface for audio production, which is what I do.
This is definitely not an issue with the speakers, because I managed to hook up my computer to the speakers'/monitors' aux RCA inputs and got sound out of BOTH speakers! What is most interesting is that headphone output from from the SPEAKERS/MONITORS functions the same in both cases. (One case with audio out the right speaker, the other case with audio out of both). However, these speakers (I'm just going to call them that from now on) have two headphone outputs. When hooked up via USB, and when listening on headphones, the phone output to the right only outputs right channel audio, and the left only outputs left channel audio. But when hooked up via the RCA inputs, both headphone outs put out as stereo.
I suspect there is something within my Windows 8 installation that's screwy. I can use these via the RCA inputs coming from my PC's sound card, but I would like to get this working via USB, as mentioned earlier, these speakers have an built in audio interface that I want to use.
Audio :: Sound Fading In And Out?
Jun 16, 2013I've just gotten this Desktop recently with windows 8 pre-installed.
I've started to notice that sounds fades in and out with both video games and videos, such as youtube, etc. I haven't noticed it with windows media player yet but it seems to be happening very often with the game Guild Wars 2. I believe it's not related to the game, considering youtube is also affected.
I have a razer black widow keyboard that's plugged into my desktop and my headset is plugged into the keyboard, if that's relevant.
