Accounts :: How To Disable Password Requirement

Jun 17, 2014

I have to log back on with a password every time my laptop goes to sleep. Can I disable the password requirement so it boots straight to the tiles or desktop? It really is annoying to have to enter the password every time.

Accounts :: Unable To Remove Password Requirement At Startup

Jun 25, 2013

My computer recently began requiring me to use password at startup. I had previously disabled.

I went to NETPLWIZ as suggested elsewhere (Log On User Account Automatically at Windows 8 Startup)

However, there is no box to uncheck that says "Users must enter username and password to use this computer." (see attachment)

What am I missing? I have also checked the Password Requirement on Wakeup in the Power settings and that shows "No" and the "Ctrl-Alt-Del" option is also not in place.

Hardware Drivers :: Registry Way Of Disabling Bluetooth Keyboard Passkey Requirement?

Mar 18, 2012

I have exhausted my efforts to get an answer out of Microsoft's forums regarding the problem with Windows 8's insistence of flashing straight into the Metro Devices page when installing hardware thus precluding the ability to install a Bluetooth keyboard (or other BT device) without a passkey, an essential element of having a functional BT keyboard in each OS of a multi-boot environment.

Where in the registry is the key that can be altered to stop Windows automatically assigning a passkey? I would imagine it's the same in Windows 7 if I only knew where that was!

Accounts :: Cannot Log Into Admin Using The Correct Password

Aug 1, 2013

I can not log into my account..I am using the right password. I used the machine earlier, then came back and it would not accept the password. The pop up said..."can not log onto account at this time..see liveacount.com to fix any problems"...or something like that.

The computer turns on fine...I can log onto the other accounts.

I have my live account password....

Can I create another Admin account to take off the password to that admin account??

Accounts :: Default Logon Account (Admin) Gives Error Message - Username Or Password Incorrect

Jul 31, 2014

I had a new Windows 8.1 Pro system installed. Was able to logon to it with no problem. The computer name was OWNER. Changed it to what my previous computer was named. Now during startup the Admin logon gives the following message:

The user name or password is incorrect. Try again.

When I click on 'OK' I'm presented with a signon screen with Admin as the user name. No password that I enter works. When I lookup the signon accounts Admin is NOT one of them.

Listed the user accounts and found the following item for Admin:

AccountType=512
Description=

Domain=JAMESGATEWAY-PC
FullName=JAMES FLETCHER

Unable To Remove Password Requirement

Dec 5, 2013

Friend had Vista on a computer and bought Dell with Windows 8:

1- I am unable to remove password from sign-on. There appears to be no instruction as in Win 7/Vista.

2- Picture icons when transferred show only a general icon not an icon of the pictures as in Vista.

3- My friend accidentally removed the icon for the Instructions/ for Win 8 on the Start Menu. I cannot find the file for us to review.

4- When I try to Create a Password Reset disk, the program asks for a password reset disk disk and password to be installed?

Accounts :: Prevent All But Admin Accounts To Create More Accounts?

Sep 10, 2013

I just bought my 15 year old son a laptop with Windows 8. I was able to set up my Admin account and his "standard" account, and put a time curfew and limits on his account, but when I logged in as him, I saw that he would be able to create another account which would pretty much defeat the whole time limit thing! Is there a way to prevent all but admin accounts to be able to create more accounts?? I'm pretty technically savvy but this new Windows 8 is not as easy to navigate as the previous versions!! (I wouldn't mind a "classic view" either, if that exists!)

Accounts :: Disabling Login Screen - Can't Download Programs?

Jan 27, 2013

I just got Windows 8 and tried disabling the log-in screen. I went into "netplwiz" now I seem to have lost my administrative powers.

I can't download programs or access the "user accounts" tab in the control panel. Every time I try to do something that would require admin powers, I get a "user account control" prompt that tells me that if I, "want to allow the following programs to make changes to this computer," that I need to enter an administrator password and then click yes.

But there is no text box to enter a password and the "yes" button is grayed out. My only option is to hit "no" or "show details."

When I go into "PC Settings" and the "users" tab, it says that "there are no other users on this PC" and "Sign in as an administrator to add users to this PC." But how do I do that?

I've tried going into the "run" operation and entered "net user administrator /active:yes" command, but nothing happens. I also tried entering "msconfig" but I ran into the same problem of not having admin powers to do that. I tried starting in safe mode by jamming shift and F8 but that didn't work either.

Hidden Admin Account Has A Password?

Feb 6, 2014

I am the ONWER of my PC and should aloud to edit whatever files I want, but windows knows best so fine... ok... I enabled access to the hidden admin account. Because our user accounts that say admin is a way for windows to make us think we are system admins when we arnt. Every guide in the world says once the hidden admin account is enabled it will have no login password... mine does... what do I do? This PC is fresh out of the box no password was set. I need access to the hidden admin account unless this hidden admin is someone who payed for this PC and didnt tell me? Then Id assume I have the right to use my admin account on the PC.

Accounts :: Password Not Required - Password Incorrect On Startup

Sep 15, 2014

I have my Windows 8.1 PC's password policy set so that a password is not required when waking from sleep/shutdown. I used to be able to wake the PC from sleep and not put in a password, and I could turn the PC on after a shutdown without having to put in a password either. Since last week, though, when I turn my PC on, it will boot to the Windows loading screen and after loading for a bit, it will jump into the login screen and immediately report a login error that the username or password is incorrect. This happens before I even get a chance to type a username or password. The fact that I have to type in the username and password is strange because I have the PC set to bypass that option.

Accounts :: Must Email Password Be Same As Desktop Password?

Jul 25, 2013

I set up the user account using my Microsoft email account. I would like to use a different password on my desktop vs the email password. My email password since it is accessible via web is strong 16 characters long, random characters password and changed often. I would like to change the desktop password to something I can remember, still strong, but I don't change it as often since you have to get physical access to my desktop.

I assumed once I linked to the Microsoft account I could change the password on the machine without it changing my email password.

Is this not possible? I would prefer not to have to lower the security of my email account just to accommodate Windows 8. Never a problem before as my email clients stored the password.

No Text Box For Typing In Admin Password And OK Button Greyed Out?

Mar 31, 2013

Today, my windows 8 desktop acted up for no reason. When I tried to install a program/software, it prompted for an Admin. Password. However, in the dialog box, there was no text box for typing in the Administrator password and OK button was grey out.

Tried to open an elevated command prompt box using "Run as administrator", no luck. Selection was grey out too. I could not enable hidden administrator account via "net user administrator /active:yes" from elevator command prompt. I also could not install any software because the Administrator password dialog box contains no text box to enter Admin password and OK button grey out. I could only clicked the Cancel button.

Accounts :: Can't Access Admin Account

Nov 8, 2013

My son decided to give my mother his new (then) PC...She has a slow dial up and in the transition of adding her as admin and deleting him the network failed long enough to not allow her admin status to take effect but oddly enough allowing him to be deleted as admin....no big deal I thought (clueless as to the throttling grip MS has added to 8)...to date,I have tried everything to resolve this issue but foiled at every turn.

Problem is the YES button is never highlighted in every event to add an admin password.I have followed pretty much most "solutions" only to be be mocked at the finish line with no YES button.

By the by...I have since bought the Princess Bride and myself laptops each with Windows 8 and was quite happy until I upgraded to 8.1 and lost my desktop pic...???? Bizarre...goneski...and after searching forever found the pix in some obscure folder not of my making...What is this dark majic you dabble in Mister Gates?

Accounts :: Default Hidden Admin Account

Jul 12, 2014

I remember that Win XP has the Default Hidden Admin Account that is created when you install the OS and also by default it's not password secured which can be a security issue. By doing a quick search, apparently Win 8 also have this Default Hidden Admin Account.

When in Windows 8 I verify the available created users I see an Admin account. Is this account the 'hidden' one, but made visible?

I also did the prompt cmd: net user administrator /active:yes, but I get a msg saying that there is 'no' user under the name 'administrator' ... maybe the admin user I'm seeing is a microsoft account, not a local account?

Accounts :: Two Users Account Setup As Admin (Win 8.1 Pro)

Jan 23, 2014

I was a Windows 7 user and yesterday I installed Win 8.1 Pro, which I purchased almost a month ago, just didn't have the time to install (it was better that I didn't have any time) and since then I can't figure out lot of things, one of which is really disgusting. See that my mom and I use the same laptop, she uses it on morning and I at night.

And thus I created two user accounts, for example mine is A and my mom's is B. Now when I turn on the lappy it goes straight into my account, without even asking to which I want login! Where on Windows 7 after the welcome screen always there was an option of two accounts, but story has changed. So what should I do to get it back like it was on Seven? I just want each time I reboot the machine there must be an option of both accounts, and I will choose where I wanna login.

Both accounts of my mom and mine are set as admin.

Accounts :: User With Admin Rights Can't Run As Administrator?

Jan 9, 2014

Windows 8 pro: I have a user account with admin rights. It used to work fine till one day, after rebooting, I had no tiles in the start view. I ran chkdsk and it seems to have fixed the problem but now when I run any application as "Run as administrator" I get: Windows cannot find '[The exe]'. Make sure you've typed the name correctly, then try again.

If, however, I run the same app as normal and it works - thus the exe exists and there is no problem with the app itself. (Also check in the file system)

If I create a new user with admin rights I get the same issue.

(The other old user with admin rights are working fine.)

Accounts :: Deleted Admin Account In Update - How To Restore

Jun 8, 2014

I only had one account on my Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1 x64 computer. Then I messed it up when I changed rights. Now the computer boots up and I can log in but as a user.

Most of the suggestions I read require admin rights which I no longer have. I can't create a new account or edit the built-in admin account but I keep getting the error 5.

So Should I try to boot in safe mode with DOS prompt and hopefully admin rights?

Would a system restore work? I do have recent restore points but will I be able to restore if I am not the administrator?

I am asking all of this because I am not in front of my computer at this moment... I had to leave on a business trip so I will attempt repairs when I get back home.

Worst case scenario will require me to start from scratch, which I am trying to avoid.

There are all the different links named as below:
Change your account name
Change your account type
Manage other account etc..

However when I click on any of these links, nothing happens at all !!!

What could be the possible reason of this? Window is updated, I am able to do other stuff that only admin can do for example: installing/uninstalling software, running system tools etc. Moreover I am able to make changes to user accounts from Computer Management.
