I had 32 bit Windows 7 home premium provided by OEM. Recently I purchased Windows 7 professional 64 bit in order to increase my memory.(My system is 64 bit capable) I followed [1]. I am using USB for installation. I booted the system with USB. Then at disk manager I deleted all the partitions(including recovery ) Then I refreshed and click next and I got an error saying setup unable to create system partition.

I'm doing a fresh install on windows 7, instead of a disk it's on a thumb drive
I have a 500 GB Partition I want to install windows toI went through setup and formatted the disk when I try to continue with the installation and get this error.
I tried to dual boot Fedora 18 with my Windows 7. They are on two different hard drives. Fedora 18 worked but I was unable to boot up Windows 7. Frustrated, I decided to just delete everything from all the hard drives and try to do a clean install of Windows 7 using the USB-DVD Windows tool to make a USB Windows 7 installer. I then got the following error when trying to install Windows onto my hard drive:
"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information"
I tried unplugging the other hard drives and got the same error. I also went to the command prompt and used Diskpart and did clean all. Still the error shows up. Something that might be useful is that when I did disk list in the command prompt it showed my hard drive but with 0 free space. Not sure if this is useful but the drive I want Windows 7 on is a solid state drive but the one I had Fedora on is a normal hard drive and I had an extra harddrive that I used for storage that is a normal hard drive as well.
I was just wondering if I am able to take windows home basic off a store bought computer and put it on another computer. The reason for this is I am currently building my own and want to avoid unnecessary cost. As I own a laptop that I will no longer be using and a retail copy(windows home premium). So can I take the windows off my old laptop and put it on the computer?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have my HP Laptop which came with Windows Vista as the OS. I want to upgrade to Windows 7 so I bought Windows 7 from my local store.I entered the disc and did boot from CD. It reached to the page where it shows the disk partition. I deleted the partitions and created new one. However, whenever I create the partition, it creates a primary one and gives me error saying Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition.
View 9 Replies View RelatedA friend has asked me to install Widows 7 on a friends laptop which has XP. The laptop doesn't have a DVD drive (no drive at all) so I've had to stick the installer on a USB stick from disc using a program. The USB boots up fine on the laptop, just like a disc. I formatted 2 partitions (same drive) and tried to install windows 7 but I get this error:"setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing partition"So now, I have someone else's laptop with no OS. The owner is a 70 year old computer illiterate man.i'm planning on trying to install Vista instead and if successful, upgrade to 7. I would have upgraded in the 1st place, but P can't be directly upgraded to 7.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two identical sata drives. They were previously configured at raid 0 so
reset and removed the raid config in my bios. I have a Asus p5wd2 Premium mobo.
When I try to install I get this error message
"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate existing system partition"
I also do not see my other sata drive detected In Win 7 set up.
I tried to load some drivers from disk and from usb but it says no signed drivers were found. I am also unsure what drivers I need.

I built a new pc and i want to put windows 7 pro on it. When i try to install i got the message "setup unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing one". How do I fix this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis is a fresh Windows 7 install on a 500GB HDD (previously used under XP) In the BIOS the Storage is configured as: Raid. Obviously I have the right raid ICH10R drivers from Asus (they are on a USB drive) Installation starts, Windows sees the disk, I specify the drivers, BUT when I click Next, I get: Setup was unable to create a new system partition. I can delete the partition, create a new one, format it, BUT when I click Next, I get: Setup was unable to create a new system partition. I used Gparted to delete the partition, and tried again - I used Seagate tools to zero the disk (sort of low level format) - If I try to install on a brand new 1TB HDD following the same steps, it installs fine... Both drives are Sata II and I used the same Sata port (only one disk at a time)

View 14 Replies View RelatedI bought a 3TB hard drive for my gf and did a fresh install of Windows 7. When I was creating the first partition the Win7 install auto created two more volumes, both labeled as Unalloated. I thought nothing of it as I figured I would be able to merge/create my second partion with the remaining space once Windows was up and running. However, to my dimay I can not create a partition on one of those random Unallocated volumes. I've tried to delete all partition but the one that my OS is running on and I've tried to create two then merger but when I right-click on the second (first one works) volume the option t create a simple volume is greyed out.
