Screen Shrink And Has 2 Inches Of Space On Each Side
Oct 29, 2009
I upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista and when the upgrade was complete my screen shrunk and has 2 inches of space on each side--Yikes. I opened my Lightroom 2.5 program and my pictures are really screwy looking. IS THERE A WAY TO EXPAND THE SCREEN TO FIT THE ENTIRE MONITOR---hope this isn't a stupid question, I searched long to try and figure this out.
My os partition size is 222 GB. Free space in OS partition is 85 GB. I want to Move 80 GB free space of OS partition to second Partion(F:) to do this, I tried to Shrink the OS volume. But size of available space for shrinking is only 707 MB.But there is 85GB free space in my OS partion. why this occurs?
I want to view multiple windows side by side across the screen, and it kind of works, with a few issues. The first is that it never includes the window in which I am running Firefox, it will arrange every other window side by side and leave the browser window open at the original size across the whole lot. The second is I can't work out a way to say view windows side by side but exclude some - I want to snap my browser windows and a couple of other things which receive regular updates to the best possible use of the screen, but ignore windows running utilities, email, etc. Is there a way to say place some windows side by side without having to shut down and reopen the ones I'm not interested in viewing on side by side?
The third is, is there any way to specify the order in which I want it to display the windows? I get them in all kinds of random orders and even if I drag them around to be almost exactly where I want them, if I use the "side by side" they jump into different orders - I want Firefox to the left, IE to the right (they fulfil different view functions for me) and the other program in the middle. There seems to be no way for me to tell the system I want them lined up like that. Will I have to line things up on the screen manually if I want them like that? It's not always the same programs so I don't want to start incorporating commands to force them to run in certain sizes and locations.
My widget icons have inexplicaby moved from the right of the screen to abouy 2 inches to the left, thereby obscuring some desktop iicons. How can iget them to "snap" backto where they one belonged (get back-beatles)?
I have a partition set at 237 GB. I have 161 GB of free space left and want to move more out of the partition. But it would not let me move more out. Is this a bug or something?
Yesterday When I start my PC, I found that my monitor has some blank black space at the right side of the monitor. I didn't change any resolution, but It is automatically happened. I tried changing the resolution, but nothing worked. So, I thought to get support from you guys. I am using Nvidia Geforce 7025/ Nvidia nforce 630a. also I tried to update the driver, but windows says that I am using the best driver for this hardware.
Although there isn't an interface specficially designed for it, you can actually view the progress of a volume shrink operation in Windows 7, and cancel a shrink that is in-progress, using the Disk Defragmenter tool.Volume shrink can take a long time, especially if you have a very full, or fragmented hard drive. Being able to view the shrink progress can be pretty handy!
why does shrink volume only display 350gb available to shrink out of a total of 703 gb on (C drive? the Hewlett Packard is fresh out of the box. it was partitioned with 200MB system files, the 703GB partition contains 25GB of files, 150MB partition unallocated. a (D drive HP created for emergency (nice feature). any suggestions on what to do with 150MB since it is so small (mb). windows 7.
My C drive is full and started to make computer run lil bit slow.my question is if i shrink my d drive which has about 70g free can i just extend the c drive to take the un-partitioned space? I dont see why not but seen as i was on here i said id ask, i dont want to have a small usless volume if i can not add it to the c drive.
also it is 1024mb in a gig init?? im goin to add 50g to my c drive which would be 51200mb!

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail." First of all, I've gotten this on at least 3 different programs. Everyone who's written about this seems to think it's related to their specific program...it's not! Secondly, what I find here in the forum on the subject tells me there has been no solution...also am unable to find any on the 'net'. I think it acts like a virus and is spreading...What's up with this??? Does anyone know...? It has kept me from opening iTunes so I can't work with my iPad anymore. Certainly there must be someone knowledgeable enough to know what this is and what to do about it...right?:

I downloaded and installed Ubuntu and sectioned off a part of my hard drive for it. I intended to have it set up to run both windows 7 and linux together and let me choose which boot disk I wanted to use at start up. Ubuntu took over and so I read through some forums online. I can now get to the Windows 7 loading screen but it freezes there. I have my install disc and was hoping someone could assist me with getting windows 7 back. I do not care if I loose Ubuntu. I am currently sitting with the Administrator: X:windowssystem32cmd.exe from the System Recovery Options Menu with my Windows 7 Disc in the tray.
I've tried nearly everything possible. I've tried a sfc /scannow (CBD log is below), I just ran a chkdsk.exe, reinstalled Visual C++ and nothing has fixed it. I've also tried reinstalling the program. What else can I do? I cannot use a Windows Installer Disk as I don't have one as the company installed Windows for me and I never got a disk.I also don't have a CD large enough to put the .iso on it. I made a Windows Repair Disk but I can't seem to be able to boot from it, my BIOS is that of a Gygabite 990x Mobo.
I got a passive 3D monitor for Xmas and whilst the sales are on i want to get some good games that can make the most out of it.What games output either Side by Side/top and bottom or Interlaced 3D? Ive looked in the settings of a few recent games, some of them mention 3d but turning it on still outputs a 2D picture to the screen..
I've got a Vaio VPCEB4C with ATI radeon mobility 5650. The native resolution is 1920x1080. My problem is when I change the resolution to 1680x1050 a black bar appears on each side of the screen and only on that resolution.
I just purchased a new puter with windows 7. However the left side of the screen is cut off and I can't get to the windows there. How do i change the size or resolution of the home page..?
I am having issues with windows 7 after a fresh install of Ultimate 32 bit. I currently get a black bar on the right hand side of my screen when set at the native resolution of 1440 X 900 or any other widescreen resolution for that matter. Any non widescreen resolution works fine. I have tried several different versions of drivers for both graphics card and monitor. Have tried using the aspect ratio settings in nvidia control panel. Even updated motherboard drivers e.t.c. Have tried the onboard chipset and even an older graphics card but just cant get rid of the black bar.
I have two texts which are the same only in two languages.I'd like to create a document that will show the texts side by side.Is there a way to do that in Office or in another environmentCurrently, the texts are in PDF format, but I could convert them to any format that will enable me to do the side-by-side merging of the documents.
I have Office 2007 installed on my computer, and have just acquired Office 2010. Is it possible to install both products side by side as it were before I get rid of 2007?
I have problem running any executable file, including opening zip files.
I have uninstall Norton Internet Security came with the Lenovo laptop, and install Avast free antivirus, everything fine after installation. But today when I start the laptop, all executable files cannot start, such as IE, Adobe, MS office, anything with .exe, and .zip. Error message is:
"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more details."
I google a bit, one suggestion is to re-install the Visual C++ re-distribution, but the exe file cannot run, therefore re-installing is impossible.
There is another suggestion to reset the default file association for exe, tried that but no difference. Couldn't find any other instance the same, look like my problem is more serious than other.
I don't recall any recent change before this issue, but everytime I start my computer, all my icons go to the left side of the screen. I temporarily downloaded a software to reset my icons when I start the computer, but I don't want to keep on having to go through this all the time. I tried the regedit...that didn't work. I tried right clicking the desktop and resetting them there...that doesn't work.
Yesterday I got a game someone I know (but not in contact with) programmed back in 2007 in C++.When I try running it I get this error message:I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit.I tried running it with compatibility settings of Windows XP, but when I did that I didn't get anything... no windows popped up, not even the error.
I am taking an online tutorial on HTML. I like to have two windows open side by sideOne for my lessons and the other for that which I am working on. I have been sitting here for about two hours. Some times they will open side by side and other times not--most of the times they don't. One of the windows will open and fill the screen. If I restore the windows down, it might work once, but the next time it will fill up the screen. I even click on Proprieties on the IE icon and choose to open minimized. That didn't help.I've been to goodle looking at information on using Windows Snap and that doesn't seem to work. If I right-click on the task-bar and select, "Show windows side by side" it doesn't work--except for a few times it will.
When I turn on the screen of my PC I get weird shapes all over the screen. Some of them are coloured, some are grey but they appear on all programmes, including a Word blank page and the desktop page. Some of them flash, some of them change shape, ut they are all pixel shaped within the boxes. There are also some strange 'squiggly' marks on the screen. When I opened Windows mail, the left hand side of the screen was completely black and it didn't show any of my messages. As I'm typing this message, I've got grey boxes which change shape as I type and it's covering some of the text.
