View 1 RepliesWhen in word documents or typing in browsers, my laptop keyboard is perfectly fine, but when I'm in a game or certain other programs (like typing in Pandora, the internet radio) my keyboard (all the numbers, letters, and punctuation keys), when hit, will display numbers. No matter what key is pressed the first press gives me a "1," the next a "2," and so forth until "0" which is when it goes back to "1." I can't play anything and have to copy paste into Pandora's typing field.
Oddly, when I hit CTRL-V to paste it still registers. CTRL-random number would not paste, so something is (I think) changing my letters into numbers after the letter registers. I tried to do all the Num-lock and scroll-lock stuff but it didn't work. AVG Free's scheduled scan turned up nothing. I'm currently scanning with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Spybot S&D. Unhackme says there is no Trojan on my computer. I temporarily fixed the problem previously with a system restore, but it did not last.
I use two keyboard layouts on my computer--English and Russian. I switch between the two using left Ctrl+Shift. I want to remap my keyboard so that in both keyboard layouts my "caps lock" key does nothing and my "insert" key becomes a caps lock key.
Attached are a couple of screen shots of what I currently have in my registry under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout.
When I lock the desktop, the keyboard and trackpad stop working on my Windows 7 laptop. Therefore, I cannot unlock the system or change my password. Eventually, the screensaver start, and then if I move the mouse or hit a key, the screensaver stops, and the logon screen appear, but the keyboard and track pad are still not working. My only option is to press the power button. The same thing happens if I connect external keyboard and mouse.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 7 x64 and noticed I was down to the last 7 GB of storage on my 120GB app disk. I've only got about 50 GB of apps so it looked like something was amiss. I did some poking around and discovered the Users/username/AppData/Roaming folder had 41 GB of stuff in it. 36 GB is in one folder, Adobe. I have Master Collection CS5, but the program files for all of it (stored in another folder, of course) only add up to about 15 GB.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm hoping to be able to stream certain a certain program(s) to my HDTV. This cable provider we just switched to does not offer international channels (in this case Italy's RAI international). Is it possible to hook a PC up to a TV for the sole purpose of streaming that channel? I know there are several sites that let me stream that channel. What hardware would I need? Do I need to worry about graphics card limitations? Internet connectivity won't be an issue. Would I need a remote control or a certain software package for this? Will TV have to have certain adapters to act as the monitor? Are there any software packages that act as a DVR?The TV in question is a Panasonic Viera, 36" I believe. The side connections are HDMI, RCA Vid/Aud and the has HDMI, component in and Video in.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently obtained a number of large video files. They have several different file types (file extensions). Among those types are:
.AVI .MKV .MPG .MPE .MP4 .WMV
There are other types as well.I'd very much like to perform some simple editing on these files. The most common editing operation is to extract or "split" a large file into several smaller component files. In other words, each of thse large files contain several small files - all strung together. For example, there may be 4 or 5 video clips in each file. Instead of creating one file for each "clip", the person who created these files just concatenated them all together in one file. So, I'd like to "split" each of these clips out of the single file and create a number of separate files - one for each clip.In addition, I would very much like to be able to convert files of one type to another type.I don't know a lot about the attributes of the various file types. I've read about them in Wikipedia and so I know a lttle about the reasons these file types were created and what the various differences are among them. The main reason that I'd like to convert most of these files to a single file type is that I consider it kind of sloppy to leave these files in there original file types.I have used the app Irfanview in the past to perform similar conversions on "still" files such as .JPEG or .GIF files.
1) How easy or difficult is it to convert video files from one type to another?
2) Should I expect to find one app that can do both editing and conversions? Or should I expect to get several different apps - some to convert files and some to edit files?
A Compaq Presario CQ62 Laptop running windows 7. I accidentally spilled wine on it and the keyboard no longer worked.I purchased a Microsoft wired desktop 600, but it has no function keys. On the original keyboard I used Fn E12 to connect to a network, but with the new keyboard I can no longer connect to a network. There must be a workaround?

View 5 Replies View RelatedLong story short, my ex girlfriend got a netbook a few years ago, and it came with windows 7 starter. I gave her a copy of my valid Windows 7 Home Premium keys and taught her how to reinstall Windows 7 on a USB drive. So now she has the netbook with windows 7 on it, and she upgraded to a new 15 inch HP Envy, she doesn't use the netbook anymore. And since we don't talk anymore, any attempt to ask if I can have the key back and she reinstall the old system on there from the recovery partition, it's all gone unanswered.I just want to have my windows 7 Home premium key back, she isn't using the netbook and I need it to install now.
What I'm wondering is if I can just install windows 7 on my laptop, and then activate it, I know it will deactivate the netbook, but can I lock the key to my computer only so if she or anyone else tried to reactivate it, it wouldn't let them and it wouldn't affect my computer?I just want my key back and she isn't using it anymore, she just blocked me on facebook today because I contacted her about it. So I'm done with trying to work with her and I just want to get this over with.
My Logitech keyboard has this Function "Scroll Lock". I toggled it a couple of times but I don't see what it does and how to use it.

In schools they often lock down their computers so that it boots the same image every time, and none of the changes from the users are stored when they shut down the computer. I'm looking to do this for my HTPC aswell. I want to set it up to boot the same image for my C-partition every time, I'm storing all the my databases with mediainfo and watched tags on a separate partition so that info should still be saved after a shutdown.

http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/2/20092009100o.jpg
(I had to use my phone as it seems you cannot use print screen at this login)
Normally it would have the persons picture and name, and all you would have to do is enter the password, but it seems it has made it so you have to enter the Username and Password which is quite an annoyance.
I went through all of the settings to make sure that I had not accidentally changed any, from what I saw I had not changed any settings or if there were in fact any settings that causes this behaviour.
I sometimes have to leave comp and go for some work with all the windows open. Is there any feature whereby i can lock my computer and then unlock on return.i mean something like Ctl + alt + del is what we normally use in offices ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen i walk away from my Windows 7 PC, i'd like to lock the screen for good security and put it to sleep for good energy savings. Doesn't that make sense, at least in some situations? But if you lock it, you can't sleep it, and if you put it to sleep, then you can't lock it.
Probably most people lock it and allow it to go to sleep later after a timeout period. But we could all be greener if there were a way to do both sleep and lock at the same time. win7q has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe issues come when I leave the PC overnight, idling, with the monitor physically turned off (I use the power button). When I come back in the morning and turn the monitor back on, there is a black screen and the PC won't wake.I have left the computer idling during the day for many hours with the monitor being in standby (PC turns it off, not me).Interestingly, when the PC "hangs" after the night I can still access stuff over the network, and play some videos on my TV which is DLNA-ed to it. Logs do not show any issues, in fact there is some logging going on all night meaning the PC isn't totally dead. However, I try plugging some USB devices in and out, but it doesn't make that USB recognition noise.
Things I have tried:
- playing around with power settings, ie. disabling USB turn-off, disabling ULPS on my vid card (ultra-low-power-savings mode), changing the screen turn-off times, turning sleep and hybernate/hybrid off
- note it is NOT a taskbar auto-hide issue. If you are having crashing problems after idling (still able to access PC for 10s of seconds before it freezes), be sure to check out information on the auto-hide of the taskbar
Other info:
- I run utorrent overnight As a test, I turned my monitor off (physically) during the day, and came back to a "hung" system. I think this may be the root of the issue but it's still driving me up a wall because it's such a weird problem. I have to keep trouble shooting the issue to be certain. Furthermore, my main concern, and the reason for writing this post, is that I want to make sure this is not some hardware issue that is later going to progressively get worse. To me it doesn't seem like a hardware thing, but maybe there are some experts out there who can shed some light.
My pc was recently hit with several malwares, which messed up my pc pretty good. After I got rid of all of them, I noticed that one problem still remains: my desktop icons won't stay locked in place the way I want them. I would move the icons in one place, and it'll stay up until I refresh the page or restart the computer. They would all revert back to the left side of the desktop. Any way to lock these? I've already checked to see that auto arrange icons is turned on, even tried checking it and unchecking it. I also checked to see that "Allow themes to change desktop icons" in Desktop Icon Settings is unchecked.
