View 1 Replies View RelatedI do not like at all using my touch pad with my laptop as i have lost more stuff doing that. Typing along and it somehow highlights everything and if you aren't watching and aren't fast, the next key stroke zaps everything. So I found before on my old lap top that the fn key and the f3 key together will work as a toggle (that sometimes irritatingly toggles its own self) to turn touch pad on and off.On my new laptop I found it had a control to completely disable the touchpad which was way cool, one time, done. Now amazingly enough the control is not locatable and the touch pad is activated and the fn f3 fix does not work either.computer manufacturer says restore to default settings but I don't buy it there has to be another way as that will wipe out all my settings and more?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI think this is driver related. My Dell laptop touch pad is working fine for moving the pointer and clicking but the scrollbar for web pages etc. that runs vertically down the left of the pad does not function at all. I have had a look around the Device Manager but I cant find the pads entry to update it. Perhaps this is just something that is incompatible with Windows 7...
Does anyone else have this problem?
I have an ASUS laptop model: N43S I used fn-f9 keys to disable my touchpad, and after I pressed these two keys, a picture of a locked touchpad appeared on the screen but the touchpad was still working. So I went to control panel -->device manager-->mice and other pointing devices-->driver but the disable button was disable too.
I should disable my touchpad because I have to type my thesis and the touchpad is a big problem for me.

View 5 Replies View RelatedLast night my keyboard and touchpad stopped working on my laptop and now I'm using the usb mouse and the "On screen keyboard". I have done a system restore but to no avail. I've also taken out the battery (found in another thread) but nothing. In device manager there is an exclamation mark next these:1. Under keyboard. keyboard device filter2. Under mouse and other pointing devices. ELAN PS/2 port smart padDouble clicking both of them gets these properties for each respectively:1. Under keyboard. Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)2. Under ELAN PS/2 port smart pad. This device cannot start. (Code 10)The laptop is an Asus x53sv running win 7 64bitI made a recovery disc (in fact there 5) when I first got it but using that wipes the hard drive C:. I know that for XP there is a repair program which you get to by following the procedure for doing a re-install but you have this option which doesn't wipe the hard drive. I've used it.Does something similar exist for Win 7?

View 7 Replies View RelatedA couple days ago, my keyboard and touchpad mouse stopped working. I thought it was a hardware issue and ordered a replacement keyboard. As for the touchpad, I'm just using a wireless mouse. I replaced the keyboard a couple days later with the new one, and when I turned on my laptop, it works again, but when I put my laptop to sleep and wake it up, I hit enter, and then it stops working. I cannot type anything until I restart my computer. I figured it has to do something with the drivers, but I'm not too sure. Here is my computer specs:
Product: HP Pavilion dv9700
Model: dv9925nr
Windows 7 home premium 64bit
I've gone to the HP website to get the drivers, but they do not support windows 7 for my computer.
I did a clean install of windows 7 then i installed all my drivers but i cannot seem to find the settings for the touchpad on my laptop.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't know for sure the the Win7 update killed the track-pad, but about a week or so ago after I let it run I've lost the track-pad function completely and the keyboard is erratic. If I accidentally hit the Caps Lock key the keyboard stops responding. I discovered if I open the keyboard control panel and just change a parameter, like how fast the cursor blinks and APPLY then I get the keyboard back without rebooting. I downloaded the track-pad driver, says it's the same as installed but the system no longer recognizes it's there in the control panel. This is an HP G60 series laptop running Win 7 Home.
I'm downloading TSG to add that info, but searching I see many people have had similar problems like this with no solution on various brands of laptops and Windows.

Can I buy an Upgrade Windows 7 and do an in-place upgrade of my Windows 7 system, or do I have do buy a new copy (full) and do a clean install over a freshly reformatted partition?
i just downloaded windows 7 rc2 from windows site, but cannot install it, because ive got error message: your product key cannot be activated.

I recently tried to created a word document but as soon as I opened the window i got an error saying that microsoft office was not activated and that certain features were disabled. The activation window contained two options: activate over the phone or activated over the internet. Both options return with the same error saying my copy is not valid.I called Microsoft Support and they redirected me to omnitech support. the tech told me that I had downloaded malware and that he would be happy to fix my problem for 79.99. He would not actually tell me what was wrong.I know that my copy is genuine because i bought this computer from a friend and i saw him install windows 7 home premium.

I have read I can't use Windows 7 Home Prem Upgrade to UPGRADE my RC7100 and that I have to have RC7600 but I thought was a RTM build?
I am confused. Do I buy an UPGRADE or a RETAIL???
I'd really like one simple answer PLEASE to one simple question...CAN I BUY and use an UPGRADE H/Prem Windows 7 to do an inplace UPGRADE of a legally downloaded and activated RC7100? I take it if YES, I have to put in the ISO disc I originally burned as "proof" of originally installed OS?
Mods - I don't think this post is in violation of Posting General Rule #7, but I could be wrong. If so, correct me, teach me the error of my ways, but don't ban me. I kinda like it here.
Some background:
My wife bought an Asus laptop in either Aug or Sep '09. It came installed with 32-bit Vista and came with a free upgrade to Windows 7 - so that kinda gives a time frame. Of course, we wiped Vista from the machine and clean installed one of the later 64-bit Windows 7 builds and the wife was very happy (always a good thing) with the machine.
When Windows 7 was released, we did the paperwork (on-line) to get the upgrade disk from Asus. We finally received the package yesterday. It contained only the 32-bit version of Windows 7 (with a product key) and another disk of drivers for both 32-bit and 64-bit installations (good on them for that).
After reading on SevenForums that an upgrade product key would work on both 32-bit and 64-bit (but those accounts have all be related/using the disk set released and sold by MSFT), I was hoping this "rule" would hold for the product key we got with the Asus disk because the lappy has 4GB installed and I would like for the DW to be able to use all that. So, I grab a MSFT 64-bit Windows 7 upgrade disk and start the clean install figuring that if it doesn't activate all I've lost is a little time. Then install the drivers from the Asus driver disk (there were 5 components in the Device Manager wanting drivers). So far all is well. OK, time to see if it will activate. I had my son read off the product key groups while I keyed them in (my eyes aren't what they used to be) and pulled the trigger. Activation Failed! Hoping that I had miss-keyed, we did a quick review - yup, one character got keyed as a "W" when it should have been a "Y". Made the correction in the product key and ...... Success!!!
Just thought this might help someone else in the same situation - someone who received a 32-bit version but has access to a 64-bit disk.
I wish some of you guys can help me here.Used genuine key to activate previously hacked Windows 7.System goes through authentication, "Genuine" logo. Everything fine until I reboot the system. The Product ID changes back to 00426-292-0000007-85528, and the system ask to be activated "today". I change the key again and everything is fine until next reboot.I've tried various methods including system restore, over the phone activation, etc. Same result. Just don't want to do the clean install again, too much stuff to re-install
[code]...
Last night after some modem problems which may be coincidental Windows 7 PRO (OEM) suddenly de-activated. It now will not re-activate either by the normal method or by telephone. No hardware has been changed and to my knowledge no new software was installed although some of course may have been updated. I was simply attempting to browse the web. It came with a new build and has been fine since November 2011. Checking the error logs I find these related messages. Code: Genuine state set to non-genuine (0x00000000) for application Id 55c92734-d682-4d71-983e-d6ec3f16059f Code: Acquisition of genuine ticket failed, hr=0xC004C4A2) for template Id 66c92734-d682-4d71-983e-d6ec3f16059f I ran the MGADiag tool and it produced this.
