Jun 30, 2009Installed Windows 7 and all going quite well. One problem which I can't resolve - the Fn/F3 (battery) and Fn/F10 (open disc drive) do not work. Fn/F2 to deactive wireless is OK.
I'm assuming it's a driver problem but I could be definitely wrong with this thinking.
Anybody got an idea?

The first thing that you should try is to connect using the wired network and apply all updates. It's possible that a driver may have been added that was not part of the retail package (this certainly happens with printers).
The second thing that you should be aware of is that there are a number of different chipsets used for the wireless network in the Inspiron so the following link may or may not help. (A solution is given in the last but one post.)

Sep 26, 2012I am looking for a way to set up a Windows 7 Professional kiosk on an intranet in a small company. I require a way to set up a computer to run ONLY Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. Also, I would like to have this computer automatically log in to a predetermined, non-admin account that I can bypass as an admin.Currently, I have a Windows 7 computer with a touchscreen. All the computers at the small company are connected via intranet. The company needs a computer for multiple people to have access to the product and customer information on an Excel spreadsheet.I have googled with no success. Well, actually, I did find things, But, nothing told me how I would be able to log in as the administrator to, say, perform maintenence on it. All I found was how to have a forced log in and automatically start Excel. But, they all seemed for a "Stand-alone" computer, which I believe does NOT include intranet computers.Bottom line, I need a kiosk for Excel and an automatic login that I can bypass, as needed, as an admin.

Mar 28, 2012My issue i'm having at the moment is that i can't connect to the internet nor can i connected to my home 's intranet LAN network.I turned on my computer on Monday to find that i got the Black Screen Of Death (Black screen with only the cursor after logging in to account)I booted into safe mode. Run several virus scans with multiple programs (Avast, Spybot S&D and Malware Bytes) as i hear the Black SOD is caused by malware. I found no threats. I couldn't use AVG or Kaspersky as they need an internet connection to update to most recent version, not helpful as i need an uptodate database!I also tried booting into safe mode with networking. This did not work. So i felt that there was a networking issue. I then booted into safe mode and disabled ALL network adapters including Hamachi and nvidia nforce networking controller. After doing so i booted normally and i got hold of my computer again! got past log in screen. the lot. I Have also noticed that my computer is slower than it was the day before. And it hangs for several minutes on the 'shutting down' screen.I have re-enabled networking controllers and reinstalled drivers for the nVidia nforce network controller. (i have also noticed a lacking of networks adapters in the device manager compared to what was present before disabling all network adapters/ controllers.)This did not work.
I tried pinging my router. And other computers, this didn't work.I also tried 'ipconfig /renew /release' command prompts and windows timed out connecting to some adapters.While typing command 'Ipconfig /all' i noticed that there was a lot of information which i feel that shouldn't be there!! (I'm at school at the moment, i will post information found in CMD prompt I tried 'CHKDSK /C /R' I recieved no errors I manually inputted the i.p. DNS & suffix mask address, nothing is working!
