BOOTMGR error is coming up, and everything I have read says you need a 7 install disk to repair this issue..... as it goes, I don't have one. And I can't get one. Now there has to be some way to fix this without it. I have a lap top that is also running 7 right now but it's a friends and has no disk. My desktop is the problem.

Dec 26, 2012I have a HP Pavilion g series laptop running 64 bit Windows 7. My daughter for some reason was having problems and decided to reinstall the OS using cd's from a friend that I was unaware of. I ordered the System Recovery DVDs, which there are 2 along with another CD that says Application and Driver Recovery DVD. I've gone thru the installation process with the system recovery dvd's and continue to get BOOTMGR is Missing message. I can boot into the Advanced Boot Options using F8 but do not see a system repair option. I tried safe mode with command prompt and it just brings me back to the 'Welcome to Recovery Manager' from the DVD. So while in safe mode I tried re-installing again using the System Recovery DVD's. I get the same BOOTMGR is Missing message.

Jan 10, 2012i have bought used pc, I found two 512mb sticks of ram so I threw them in there. Then I took my 3rd hdd (which was blank at one point in time and use solely for storage). Wiped everything from it then, using my main pc, installed windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. After the install was complete I was able to boot 7 off the third drive on my main pc. So I removed the drive changed it from slave to CS And connected it to the throw away pc. There is only one hdd and it has 7 installed on it. But when I turn on the pc it brings me to a black screen that says Missing BOOTMGR Pres CTRL, ALT, Delete to restart. So after checking some forums it says to insert the 7 recovery disk. When I do so it will bring me to a screen that says loading windows.. It will load fully then the screen flashes off then back on and it remains stuck on a black screen for as long as I will let it run. Would it be easier if I was to do this with xp? As the old pc is not so new technology.

Aug 16, 2012My computer recently began to give me bsod and would not detect external devices, i.e. external hard drives, wireless adapters, and other usb devices. The issue windows gave me as the cause was that these devices did not have digital signatures. After online research and a trip to the geek squad, I determined that all of my hardware was in perfect working order. I tried to remove and re-install my copy of windows 7 64 bit ultimate but found that my disk was, despite being unscathed, unreadable and unusable.
I found several articles about creating a bootable USB drive with an ISO of the disk. I have the ISO on my laptop and have been trying to get my USB to operate on the desktop, which due to blue screens and automatic restarts gave me no recourse but to wipe it completely. As I stand now I have partitioned the USB drive as fat32 after doing a cmd prompt cleaning and have loaded the iso on using several different programs including the official Microsoft USB creator. All but one have produced the same error saying "error loading operating system" when booting from just the USB. The only program to produce a different result was YUMI which loaded a program that launches on start up and gives me the option to use the Windows 7 ISO but then produces another error saying "Error 27: Unrecognized Command"
Have I missed something in the formatting process or does the fact that the Windows USB creator re formats the USB as NTFS before every ISO upload mean that I cannot load my copy of Windows 7 this way?

I have changed the default boot options to dvd from hard disk...but the error persists I also tried to install Windows XP but the installation halts at a blue screen saying that system is shutting down to avoid any loss...(Code 00X00....)
I then tried to install Free Dos that came alongwith the system but even that is also not installing and error is generated that many of the files are not located on the DVD...

Nov 3, 2012I've also tried the command prompt trick on here to no avail either. Strangely, whenever the Windows CD is in my CD-ROM, it starts up fine and works. However, I will go to work and come back after having left it on and it will be back to the BOOTMGR is missing screen inevitably by the time I get back, so I don't know long it stays working with the windows 7 CD in. Would a clean re-install of windows 7 do it? I would prefer not to but it isn't out of the question. I am something of a computer novice, but as best as I can tell, I have a Corsair SSD with windows installed on it, and a separate regular old HDD from Seagate for storage of media.

Feb 5, 2013I have tried reinstalling my windows 7 onto my SSD and am having no luck. I believe I have went through most guides / troubleshooting I could find on this website as well as others. After attempting to use my original cd with no luck, I followed the steps only to have the cd go no further than 73% of the step after "copying windows files". I then burnt / mounted, whatever you'd like to call it (properly) my Win 7 to my Thumb drive and at first windows said BOOTGR is missing.
So than I read to put in the cd, repair it using a command prompt "bootrec /fixboot" which it replied successful. After which I reinserted the flash-drive only to get the same error. I have tried partitioning, "clean all" (not in that order), multiple cds, thumb drives, my friends window 7 cd for giggles to see if I would have any luck, removing a stick of ram, all usb items but the kb/m. Desperate after literally 8 hours of working on this I tried my old copy of windows xp which gave me a blue screen of sorts.

Sep 12, 2012i cannot boot my Windows 7 64 bit Dell Studio 1558.Cannot boot to Windows.Error(s)BOOTMGR IS MISSING , CTRL + ALT + DEL TO RESTART. Description:
1. Initally had two partitions .. C and D ..
2. Tried to merge C and D to make C more by using Partiton Wizard.
3. Computer Restarted.
4.BSOD at Starting windows logo

8. Dell restore unable to locate present installation. ( "current installation : (Unknown) at Unknown drive)

14. Made Partition Wizard Bootable USB . Now have access to Partition Wizard Also.
15. Tried installing Windows 7 using USB. Got error "installation error. verify windows sources are accessible Windows 7 Instalation Problem - Error Code 0xC0000005.
16. Stuck at boot now.
I checked OS drive in partition wizard bootable , it is intact..Windows installation is there....Every drive is ok but somehow booting not from that drive.I will attach photographs of Partition Wizard Partiton status.

So windows is loading the files and TWICE, and it automatically reboots and goes over it again and command prompt comes and says BOOTMGR is missingPress Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart and the whole process goes all over again. I took out the harddrive and put it in my pc to see if I can get somewhere with it well, setup comes up properly I format the partition and I get a 0x80070570. From what I found, that's a virus I believe. The setup won't go through and BOOTMGR is missing again.

May 22, 2012I just wanted to document my ordeal here for two reasons: 1.) in order to share my experience and 2.) beacause after 36+ hours of attempting to find a solution to my problem I could NOT find one and did a few things myself to remedy and fix the situation. This experience needs to be shared in case someone else goes through this and like me, NONE of the suggested fixes work.After a failed windows 7 install using an upgrade disc (clean install, no previous OS - this is possible with the right sequence of installation, google it). I continually recieved the error "Bootmgr is missing press ctrl+alt+delete+ to restart".There are many walkthroughs on the internet detailing how to remedy this problem BUT all of them are assuming Windows has been successfully installed and that you can repair it using the install disc and clicking "repair" when putting it into the disc drive and loading it before booting. My problem of course was that the OS was not successfully installed, therefore I had no way to access the repair options.I removed the hard drive and put it into a working PC and it was detected; reformatted the drive, scanned it using Western Digital's (it's a WD Caviar Blue 500gb) software to check for drive health as I assumed the drive was bad. The drive was reformatted successfully and the long test revealed no issues, the drive was healthy. I put it back into the new rig, checked cables, replaced sata cords, powered on and "Bootmgr is missing press ctrl+alt+delete+ to restart"
Went into BIOS and made sure boot order was correct - it was.Used a piece of software meant to fix bootmgr issues (url...) - no luck.I went ahead and performed memtest86+ 4.21 and detected tens of thousands of errors in the ram. This narrowed it down. I replaced the ram with ram I know has no errors and booted up. "Bootmgr is missing press ctrl+alt+delete+ to restart".This is when I realized that it must be connected to the bad install and that before tossing this PC out of the window of a moving car, I should wipe the drive completely and start over, as something on the drive must be corrupted, despite the reformat and health of the drive. Using DBAN Boot and Nuke (http://www.dban.org/download) I wiped the drive completely (took 10 hours or so). I prayed this would solve my problems and guess what: IT DID! At this point after restarting after Boot and Nuke and putting in the upgrade disc and went forward with my installation NO "Bootmgr is missing press ctrl+alt+delete+ to restart" and the install went perfectly.

It asks me to press any key to start from dvd and when I do that, I am prompted to press ctrl +alt+delete to restart but nothing happens and the screen freezes. In other words, I can just access the bios.Afer many trials to boot from dvd or usb or hard disk ,the computer is somehow dead. The pc is running an intel Dual Core on a gigabyte "GA-EP41-UDL3".

Nov 24, 2011I have had number of errors, the latest being 'Error number: 0x80070017' when trying to install windows 7. I'll start from the top. Originally I had problems exactly the same as on this thread below, incl same model PC except with Vista, also USB mouse often freezes or stops working: [URL]. I ignored the problem until crash during online streaming (assumed problem was to do with graphics card), usual multi coloured horizontal lines on monitor, repeating sound. Manual push button shutdown.
On restart, black screen no boot activity. Recovery DVD doesn't work/ don't have all the discs. So I bought Win 7 upgrade instead. Now I have a combination of 'BOOTMGR is missing', and when that doesn't occur PC freezes on any screen you can think of. Sometimes I can get all the way to 'expanding files' when installing Win 7, then I get Error number: 0x80070017. I have tried copying DVD to USB drive (in case it's a dvd drive speed problem), but then cannot copy the whole DVD usually there's an error stopping me (on another pc).
Also no OS available to select during repair system selection on Win 7 upgrade/install screens. Finally error regarding 'USB drive unplugged during boot' or something to that effect, also tells me DVD or CD or hard drive might no be connected properly. Had that message twice, again locks up. I've checked inside, every thing connected.
So to summarise:
Bootmgr missing (on boot)
Error number: 0x80070017 (on Win 7 install)
No OS available to select (System repair)
Constant freezing

Apr 4, 2012i have a Acer Aspire 5755g-6841 laptop, and yesterday i started getting this message. "bootmgr is missing" after i tried to do a system restore. The attempt at the system restore ended bad with it not finishing and me having to reboot my laptop. It was stuck at 99% completion for 5hrs. Now when i use 2 different restore discs that i made for windows 7 64-bit from a downloaded iso, i get stuck in the recovery options menu with the blue loop never ending and no OS being loaded to be selected. Also anytime i try to use the eRecovery from pressing ALT+F10 it gets the blue loop there and never loads.

I can't use a zip drive cause the computer won't read that either.
