Folders Have Disappeared?
May 12, 2012Until recently, my Windows 7 desktop showed a series of large folders in thelower/center part of the screen for various files and photos, but now they'vedisappeared.

Folders, Files Disappeared From Desktop
May 14, 2011I was attempting to backup my system to an external drive, interrupted it, then all the files I saved on my desktop were gone. I can't find them through the start menu search nor are they in the recycle bin. I tried to restore the system to an earlier save, no dice.
1. are the files gone?
2. what happened?
3. is it a bad idea to save files to the desktop? It looked like that is where windows places my documents by default? Is it dangerous to just create C://documents for a computer with one user?
Pdf And Microsoft Word Folders Disappeared
Oct 2, 2011I tried to find some folders and files a few days ago, and found that the folders had completely disappeared from my computer. I thought that perhaps I had accidentally deleted them, so I used recuvar to try and retieve them but they were nowhere to be seen. I am sure that I didn't delete them, and if I had they would have shown up on the recuver deep scan, but they didn't. I then thought they could have been deleted by a virus, but when I did a scan I only found a tracking cookie- that's the only things I found.

Dec 6, 2012I'm using several internal hard drives with my computer, one of which is 1.5Tb in size (on a single partition). On this HD I store a number of multi-media files, which I've sorted/placed in specific "main" folders (Audio files - Picture files - Video files - etc.), and within each of these main folders are a number of other folders where the contents (pictures, etc), are sorted/filed for easier access.This evening I noticed that all the files (several years of pictures), which were within a main folder labeled "Pictures", have disappeared (they were there a few hours before)!! T he main folder was still there, but now shows as being empty, but all the sub-folders and their contents have suddenly disappeared. Everything else on the hard drive is still where it should be.I checked the main recycle bin on C drive, but the files weren't there (there was one photo there which I deleted yesterday. I did a "restore" for it and it left the recycle bin but didn't show up where it came from - the HD where the other pictures have gone missing from - or, as far as I can see, anywhere else).
I also checked the recycle bin on the actual hard drive where this mystery occurred and discovered one "folder" containing almost 5Gb of something - - I can't open it. A check in properties shows this folder to be marked as "hidden" and the box is shaded out, i.e., blocked to prevent being changed. The box immediately above the hidden box (Read-only), isn't checked - but, instead of being blank, it's blue (and if I click it the blue is replaced by a blank box)!!I've read in this forum of some similar experiences - but usually they're program files on C drive that have disappeared and not actual "stored" files on another HD, so I wasn't able to receive any help from them - - except to be comforted in the strong possibility that the files are still there, they've just been hidden by windows (7 Ultimate, 64bit).I also contacted a company (BitMart) who's product (Restorer 2000 Pro), I purchased several years ago. I'm told that my product does not support either W-7 or 64 bit but their newest version does - - however, there's no guarantee that a recovery can be made if the files haven't been deleted from the drive and are only in a hidden state.
Deleted Duplicated Icons - All Files And Folders Disappeared From Desktop
Jul 9, 2012This morning I was arranging my desktop files and folders. As I clicked the command to sort by item type, suddenly I had duplicates of every file and folder as listed on my desktop. I even had two icons for the recycle bin! I started moving one of each of the duplicated files and folders into one of the duplicated recycle bins.
I rearranged the files and folders. I then emptied one of the recycle bins. I then clicked on the desktop to rearrange the files and folders. Suddenly almost everything else on my desktop disappeared! There were many files and folder on the desktop that are now gone, there are only 7 files and folders left. Is there any way I can recover these missing files and folders.

Nov 10, 2010i use BitLord to download random stuff anyways the Downloads Folder Shows up like this : Now when i open Nero up it shows this Weird thing is if i hover over the folder from normal window it says the Downloads folder is only 800mb (as it is only showing me one item) yet from Nero it says the folder is over 9 Gigs. Im set as Owner of the folder and i have all permissions set for me however i am still unable to see these files outside of nero and i don't know why.When i go and try to change the permissions on the folders (the locked ones) windows says the files/folders doesn't exist...

Jul 9, 2012I have just done a clean install of Win 7 Pro 64. I have set up four accounts and for each one I have moved the user folders to a separate hard drive by using the Right Click Properties > Location > Move. I have done this for the following folders:
- Desktop
- Downloads
- My Documents
- Favorites
- Links
- My Music
- My Pictures
- Videos
I have done it exactly the same way on each account (and more than once! I've been imaging the disk and have restored backwards a few times.)
The problem is, on three of the accounts, when I move the My Music, My Pictures, and Videos then they do move correctly but three rogue folders appear named Music, Pictures and Videos. And I can't delete then since they are system folders.
But the weird thing is that this does not happen on one of the accounts!
how to get rid of the extra folders as they're cluttering up the users home folder and causing confusion.
How Do I Change Folders View For Individual Folders ?
Sep 19, 2009In Windows 7 how can I change "Folders View" for individual folders without changing them system wide. For example if I select "always show icons" all my folders are set this way, and that's fine. But there are a few folders I have containing jpeg images, and I want to view those as "thumbnails" without effecting the others which are set to always show icons.
This was very easy to do in Windows XP but I can't figure out how to do it in Windows 7.
New Folders Are Created As Video Folders
May 17, 2011I have problem, recently all new folder are created optimized for video content with big pictures and such. How can I fix that so they are created as normal folders, because this is driving me nuts having to change this for every new folder.

Jul 22, 2012The Dell Inspiron, with Windows 7, we bought our daughter last year worked fine until she left last May for an internship. We ran scan disc before the lap top was packed. When she arrived at her destinaction it did not work. According to the Geek squad, the hardware works fine, but there is not an operation system on the laptop. The laptop did not come with discs, but it has the Windows 7 label on the back with the product code. But when emailing Micrsoft support, they only want the PID which can't be retrieved from a computer that doesn't have an operating system.

Mar 12, 2011So, I'm on Home Premium 64 bit, and today everything was working just fine. After one reboot, nearly all the icons on my desktop were blank. As in, the individual icon pictures were just default. Every program I try to open all pops up with "Such and such file has been moved or Deleted" When running programs manually, I keep coming up with "Cannot run .ini or something to that effect if that helps. . The only thing I can get to work are Malwarebytes, Avira and Internet Explorer so far that I can find. No viruses have been detected by either of the scans and I just have no idea what to do from here. All MP3 files are also useless due to every media player that I have now appearing missing including WMP, Winamp, ITunes and such.
I really have no idea what to do here. The last thing I'd want is to have to format the computer. I have one 4gig thumb drive to back up some things, but that's about all I have. If those files aren't corrupted as well. I have no way of opening them to see.Tried a system restore before posting this and the restore failed.I know I am probably not providing all the information that I can, but if you need any more, please let me know. I'll be monitoring this thread all day.
Windows 7 Disappeared From Mbr
May 11, 2011I have had Windows 7 installed on my PC.Last night I installed Windows XP Professional (as i have some programs that do not work on 7) on my PC. I had intended it to be a sort of double boot with Windows 7 i.e. i wanted to have a boot selecter where i can choose whether to boot XP or 7. However my PC now directly boots into XP and does not allow me boot into 7.Is there a way to re-insert Windows 7 into the mbr so that i can have a choose which OS i want to boot?.

She admits to having 'fiddled' with the networking applets in Control Panel with the result that neither LAN nor Wi-fi functions any more.I have noticed that I am unable to use the GUI to access IPv4 Properties because the button is greyed out. Also greyed out is Uninstall. The only button available is Install. I have tried that, but after rebooting the situation appears to be the same. I have tried using the command prompt as Administrator and using NETSH to uninstall IP, install it, reset it etc, rebooting every time but without any noticeable change afterwards. Also tried NETSH WINSOCK RESET after the above. I have also tried the above in recovery mode with networking enabled. Again, no change!Unfortunately, the model does not have a CD drive. However, it has USB ports. Fortunately, I do have a generic 32-bit Win 7 Home Premium CD - which is the operating system installed on the PC. So I could copy the CD in one way or another to an external USB drive and work from that if necessary. If I knew what I had to do!There is a lot of valuable data on the PC and I don't want to be responsible for losing it. Of course, I could try backing it all up but she has saved stuff all over the place and I am bound to miss something! Yes, I could copy the entire disk ...... I know!! But we would still have to find and retrieve the data later.

C Partition Just Disappeared Along With OS?
Mar 5, 2012my computer last night randomly shut off while loading a tv show off Internet. upon restarting windows failed to boot. when prompted with restore and recovery it failed. unable to access safe mode and when it says it is recovering it just says it is finished with no progress restarts to no avail. upon looking at command prompt diskpart, my c partition(30gb) no longer is visible or exists. this is where my windows seven was stored. so i now only have my e drive partition which is a (1 tb drive) repairs do not work, the only option i have is to install on my e drive which warns me it will overwrite my data. i would like my c drive back and be able to boot successfully.
