I am trying to open winRAR programme downloaded to open a file sent to me by a friend, but when trying to install the windows security box appears saying 'impossible to open file'. Am i being stupid is it a security setting on my pc, i'm using windows 7.

I had Office 2007 running fine on my Win 7 x64 machine, don't ask me why I decided to waste my time to uninstall it and try to install Office 2010... Get the error 1935 bla bla.... for about 20 trials to install.
Tried all the rounds suggested: .NET repair, system restore now no longer complete (no change to system), no matter which restore point I choose..., disble Anti-virus (Kaspersky), try to install in Safe mode, I probably forget half of the list I have tried... Always same result. Worse: I get the same thing if I try simply to reinstall Office 2007!
I get that (no details needed - I see this had been a classic for at least 5 years now with no effective solution but to reinstall Win 7 or Repair - even though I have read the latest sometimes did not even worked). Both are out of my options: this machine run much more important programs/projects (recording studio, video editing) for fooling around with reinstalling. Plus, I have a OEM install and paid for online purchase of upgrade to Win 7 Pro. So even repair in these conditions is not possible from what I read.
I have not read anything new written since early 2010 on this topic, is there anything new to solve it? It appears MS have not been able to solve this for 6 years, and 3 versions ! I had same problem last year with Expression Web 2 and 4, finally been able to solve with 4 after a system restore. I was hoping to do the same here.
I'm now left with the unpractical option of doing all my Office work on my laptop. Funny enough: I have a Mac version of Office 2011 on a Mac and it run soooo smoothly. Even more funny: I *only* have this install problem with MS products, no other *non-MS* programs!..
I downloaded a somewhat large file (around 350 MB) and went to open the .exe file.However, once the extract window bar finished running left to right, I got a popup error message saying "Not enough storage is available to process this command."I have plenty of storage space on the computer (~50 GB), so I don't know what the issue is. I have a small network of six computers. Five of them run XP and I just added a Windows 7 machine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine.

A security vulnerability exists in Microsoft Works 9 that could allow arbitrary code to run when a maliciously modified file is opened. This update resolves that vulnerability. I get error code 646. All other updates are installing successfully - have also run the Windows Update "fixit" which is the only available way from MS but makes no difference. I don't routinely open any files unless I am sure of their provenance so I'm not overly concerned - it's just annoying to have constant update failures on this one. Not even sure I have Works 9 ...although obviously it thinks I do ....
Maybe I'm just over thinking here, but say you hide a file, sure you can access it through changing the folder options from show to do not show. So whats the point of hiding stuff unless you're hiding it from someone who is a novice at windows 7. My main goal here, is to have a folder, which is password protected, and have it filled with things that can not be accessed through any means other than entering the correct password and therefore entering the folder. I basically want it to be completely impossible for someone to access the contents of the folder without the password.

What can I do?
I had an unusual happening on my PC. First noticed some instability while trying to open a file from Explorer, could not scroll down to file and it was jittery. Then, every time I tried to enter on an input line, an endless string of zeros were input and I could not overide or erase. Even on Email addressees. I tried a reboot and the zeros appeared on the start up password line and I could not logon. Same thing after complete power cycle. I suspected a stuck key on the keyboard and tried a different keyboard but no help. So I tried a complete restore. At first, it seemed to have the same problem, but somehow, eventually, I got logged on and now everything seems OK. But I don't really know what caused this and fear it could happen again.

From time to time at any old time of the day (randomly it seems in other words) I'll go in and try to arrange, rename, or get rid of files and I'll get "The action can't be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer. Close file and try again". Except that the file ISN'T open anywhere.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI work at an attorneys office and we subpoenaed a surveillance video from a local gas station. They sent us a CD with a file titled "viewer.bat", but I'm not sure what to do with it.
When I try to open it I receive the error message "viewer.bat not a valid Win32 application". I'm also not sure how a .bat has anything to do with a video file (unfortunately I have no experience with .bat files).
There are is also a folder on the CD called "disstech" and it has three folders in it called "bin", "dis" and "log". What am I working with here?

I had installed 5 or 6 of them without incident, and then on the 7th just as I clicked "install", I got a BSOD with something about a memory error. I assumed it was just a one time hiccup so I restarted and attempted to install the font again, with the exact same results. I figured the font was somehow corrupt so I deleted the file from my desktop and looked in the Windows font folder to see if I needed to remove it but found no trace of the offending font. I next attempted to launch Photoshop CS5 and got a crash dialog before it ever launched. This behavior is currently continuous and I can't get PS to load at all. Illustrator however doesn't seem to have any problems and launches without incident.Also, if I try to access Windows Device Manager, I now get an error "MMC cannot open the file C:Windowssystem32devmgmt.msc".
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a boot image (.img extension) of 6kb which is mounted with grldr on a USB flash drive and it boots up fine. It actually only writes out a few sentences together with an ASCII art image and that is exactly what it should do. However I can't find a way to edit the .img file. Nero, Winrar, ISOBuster and ImgBurn can't find any files/data in it and if I simply open it with notepad it gives me a bunch of unknown chars together with the ASCII art and the sentences which have to be written out. Naturally I tried editing the senteces and the ASCII art but after I save it under the same name and with the same extension and mount it on the USB flash drive with grldr it boots up in grldr GUI and when I select the .img file to boot it just comes up with the title of the image file and nothing more on a black screen.
