May 18, 2011running on windows 7. it has been working fine for a few months then I started getting BSOD 0X0A and now the last BSOD that I got was 0x7E. It's pretty much random since there can be a time that I can use my PC for a really long time and not get BSOD and sometimes get it in just as little as 10 minute use. I just got this BSOD a few minutes ago and then when the system restarted there was no display. So I restarted the computer and NO POST, no beeps as well. keyboard light does not light up, no display either.

Jun 28, 2011i recently got a computer from my aunt, and decided to put windows 7 on it. Before I installed it, I put in a Geforce 8800 graphics card and a (2nd) cd rom drive. After 20 failed attempts to install windows 7 (it kept freezing at the completing installation part) it worked after i disconnected the new graphics card and one of the hard drives. Now, however, i keep on getting periodic blue screens with the following error messages : Memory Management, and PFN_List Corrupt. I ran a memory diagnostic and it said that the memory is fine. What is wrong with my computer? I also ran a system repair thing from the windows 7 disk, and it came up with this error: System File Integrity Check and Repair Error Code 0X490

Jan 8, 2012It ran in safe mode with networking so I was able to email all of the files I wanted WHEW! That was until today and now it won't load to any screen except for the screen that gives you the choice to repair, or to run windows normally. Either one brings me to the login screen but the login never comes up. The screen just sits there with the mouse. I have a dell inspiron, that we purchased 1 year and 1 month ago ergh! This means that the warranty is out. I have read so many forums, and tried to launch repair and it just won't do it. Dell won't send me a new recovery disk because I don't have the warranty anymore, but rather as others have stated Dell states that it is the hard drive as an easy answer. I don't believe it. Why does it load in safe mode, well except for today? I just need my laptop to be working. It is a life line in my house. From the things I have read on here it could be a virus or malware issue that is corrupting the boot sector. But I don't know what else to do about repairing it. The installation cds are not working. I have used f8 to load from the disk drive and it got to the starting set up and stopped.

Dec 28, 2012I have a 3 year old Alienware desktop running Win 7 Professional. I have never had any major problem including running weekly backups to a second internal hard drive using Windows backup. About 3 weeks ago the backup failed and produced the mentioned error code. The description of the error is misleading and makes you think that you have insufficient room on your backup drive. I subsequently replaced the drive with a larger one but the problem persisted. I then researched (including here) the error code and found "solutions" that were all over the map including some frankly worthless responses. The most frequently described cause is attributed to lack of space in a 100 MB "system reserved" partition on the boot drive. When I checked my drive this partition was not present. I had an OS partition, a Recovery partition, and a 16 MB unlabeled partition. I thought that perhaps the 16 MB partition was supposed to be the 100 MB partition and, because it was too small, was causing the backup problem. I then took my computer to Data Doctors.

Dec 21, 2012I am using Windows 7 Home Premium on a 64 bit operating system. I haven't used this computer in over a year, but my brother has been using it since, but hasn't kept it updated at all or with any anti-virus. I was able to install everything on Windows Update except Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2621440). I've tried everything from simply restarting, rebooting in safe mode and safe mode with networking (I could not open windows update either of those ways), and doing a safe mode with networking full scan with Malewarebytes Anti-Malware, Super Anti Spyware, and Microsoft Security Essentials. I did find 2 trojans and removed them and rebooted, but was unable to install this security pack still. When I tried installing the individual version of the security pack online, it told me the update did not apply to this system. I also tried running the windows update repair tool. I made a separate administrator account and downgraded my own account to a standard user, but I'm unable to demote my brother's administrator account. His is not password protected, but there is no option to change the account type, even when I'm logged on as him or under the other administrator account I just made.

I turned off the windows and McAfee wirewall, but that didn't help either. I'm using a Netgear N600 router. Maybe it has a firewall. It's just a Windows problem though, all other updates ( McAfee, Adobe, etc.) work ok.
