when you install windows 7 customly? or do you have to redownload it? microsoft won't let you download it if you're not a genuine user, so i want to keep it, if possible, so i can use aero.
View 9 RepliesI am about at wits end when it comes to this computer. I just built it like last week, and everything runs beautifully about it; that is, except that the dang thing won't stay turned off! I tell it to shutdown, and it turns itself back on after about two or three seconds. Let me clarify: the computer itself does NOT randomly shutdown, nor am I having problems with sleep or hibernate (haven't used them yet).
Ok, so I have tried about everything on every help forum I've read from here to knittingforums.com. I have disable all wake events, including the ones in regards to network adapters. I have disabled automatic restart, and even fooled around in the BIOS, disabling all wake events. I've even flipped around between BIOS commanded and OS commanded event wakes in the BIOS. About the only thing I can do is log off of my user account, and then do a hard shutdown. Even did the thing where you specifically set what the power button does.
So... please help! I will be most gracious, and will give any more information if necessary. The only thing I have NOT done is flash the BIOS; it won't recognize the USB device I have the updated drivers on.
have a new Dell Inspiron 570 PC with Windows 7, and whenever I set it to sleep mode it will not stay asleep, i tried all settings, but still no luck.. In Task manager dell data back up is running even though I did not enable that.. Could that be waking it up?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer has been acting up lately,I haven't made any changes to my computer or anything but it seems to just not want to connect to the inter for more than 5 min. My othe computer on the house seems to connect fine, but mine will only connect for 5 min the can't find the network for 15 min and it does this repeatedly. I tried updating the drivers but there were no updates available. I ran the troubleshooter and it couldn't find a problem, it just said to make sure I was in range of the router, which I am because my computer was working fine in the same spot about a week ago.

Had trouble with computer in March 2011 and eventually had to ship to HP with extended warranty (which ran out march 2012). They installed new motherboard and RAM. We upgraded fan (there are 2) and took RAM from 2GB to 8GM in May 2011. Has been running great, no problems til this weekend. It will shut off like being unplugged. I can't get it to stay on very long before it does it again. I am getting the sign on screen and the desktop shows up. I can do about 1 minute of operations before it goes out.
Opened up the tower and the fans are running, nothing feels hot.
I believe it has to do with hardware, I am going to try replacing the RAM. Then checking the fans.
1. Bioshock wants me to install DirextX 9.0c. I was wondering if installing this will mess up DirectX11.
2. I'm using a DX10 video card so the Dx10 features on my DX10 games should work wil DX11 right?
I *WAS* having this problem trying to play RIFT Beta, however, a quick search of your forum gave me just the answer that solved my problem. The launcher would start, then I would click play, and a directx update window would open, when I clicked the next button on the installer for directx (the window did not provide a version), I would get the error box telling me to look in my directx.log file, which contained many lines of error code about missing cab files. I then used the link provided in a closed thread on this forum that took me to the Microsoft Directx software page, I downloaded the latest rev of the runtime sdk kit, after 6 minutes of installation, RIFT launched perfectly. I have direct x 11 installed in my pc but my game CIV V does not let me play in DX11 which it did before for some reason it only lets me play in DX 9, also other games look like they are controlled by DX9 but my pc says I have DX 11 installed?

Even though windows 7 has DX11, you should always update the direct x. Older games still require these updates. I see alot of ATI Cat issues solved after installing these aswell.

When I go to dxdiag, on the display tab, it says direct 3D acceleratoin: Not available. And I need to enable it for a game.Another weird thing that might have something to do wiht the problem: In the device manager, when I open Display adapters section, there is one item called "Standard VGA graphics adapter", and my graphics card is ATI Radeon Mobility 5650, which is not shown there.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have two systems here running Windows 7. One system is older with a PS2 mouse. I think that is why my monitor will not stay off. I have gone into advanced power settings and turned off sleep, and made sure all my settings look right. I have also gone to device manager and un-checked the "allow this device wake computer" box for the mouse. The monitor still comes on when you touch the mouse. What else could be making the monitor come on? How do I make the mouse so it's less sensitive or disable it so you have to hit the keyboard to turn on the monitor?
