My Laptop has switchable graphics (intel+amd radeon). I disabled the display drivers from the device manager in properties of my computer for programming purposes. i forgot to enable the drivers before shutting down the laptop and now i am facing a problem in booting my system. The windows logo appears and after that just a blank screen with a mouse pointer. can i enable the display adapters from dos?

I just bought a new machine that came with an unactivated version of Windows Vista Home Premium. I'm wondering if I need to activate vista first before I upgrade to 7, or no?

So I swapped mobo's and ran into some problems so I did a repair install to resolve them. After the Repair Install, Windows deactivated and is asking for my key again. Unfortunately I do not have my key and I am unsure whether I will be able to find it again (having moved around a few times, I am unsure if I even have the install disks). After swapping mobo's Windows did NOT deactivate, everything was fine activation wise after the swap. I don't suppose there is any way to recover my key, is there?Right now, I've noticed that a new folder was created during the upgrade called $WINDOWS.~Q that seems to have my old registry in there, so I am thinking of trying to back up my current (new) registry and replacing it's files with the ones in that folder and running Belarc to see if it picks up the key then and then putting my new registry back.deas other than this?[CODE]
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have tried to do a system restart and when it gets to the welcome screen login part my screen turned to a Red Screen with bright yellow text claiming that "The hardware on this computer has been deactivated" and to call my local provider. The message also says it's in 'Special Lockdown Mode'. I have the option of Rebooting or Shutting Down and even going to Safe Mode does nothing! I do believe this is a virus.

When i connect my 2nd Hard Drive and boot the system then the System says that : "Your Windows 7 is not Activated, only 30 Days left to Activate"
The first one is the BIOS boot up screen that usually leads me to Windows. A few months ago, this vanished. I don't know if it was due to a version of Windows 7 i installed or something but whenever I turned on the PC, the screen would appear blank for a few minutes then go straight to the Windows welcome screen. I thought it was weird, but I didn't see a problem since it went to Windows so I disregarded it, which looking back is kind of dumb but I didn't want to risk doing something to the computer in the process.So a few weeks ago I was trying to partition the hard drive so I can install the Windows 8 preview on it, rebooted the computer and...nothing. It wouldn't take me to Windows to there's clearly a problem with the hard drive. I could always get a new one, but there's still the problem of the vanishing BIOS screen.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI was attempting to run chkdsk and went into Safe Mode -- no problems discovered. However, since then whenever I boot / reboot laptop Safe Mode screens reappear. Thinking back I don't recall any guidelines from any Win7 tech sites advising turning off Safe Mode. So, I initially assumed Safe Mode automatically reverted to the prior mode -- apparently an incorrect assumption. How do I get back to Normal Windows Start Up for Win7 Home Premium x64?
I got out of Safe Mode to restart somehow -- ESC key -- I did not force quit by turning off. Since then system now starts by scrolling thru 2-3 screens of "Loading: ... (various driver drive locations / various names)" and then Win 7 login screen comes in with Password box.
Everything else is running fine now except I suspect I need to go back to boot Safe Mode screen and turn Safe Mode off -- return it back to Start Win 7 Normally.

To start I am running:[CODE]I recently reformatted Windows 7 and now when I try to update either my Intel or Nvidia card, they both fail. The Intel update will most often say that my computer is not compatible, or that it simply fails. On the nvidia update I get the classic "Nvidia Installer failed" after trying both Express, Custom, and clean installs. In my first attempt at this I uninstalled my drivers and then tried installing, even in safe mode, and I could never get it to work. I did another install of windows in another attempt to restart the process but still no solution worked. I have browsed forums for about a day or two now and still have not found a viable option. The games I play do not open and usually crash after their first loading screen, however after I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers I was able to open the games at a low performance on the intel card, which leads me to think this Nvidia bug is the problem.
It is probably important to note that this was the first time I had reformatted since the laptop was purchased about a year ago, and that I also did it in a different format that I wasn't even really sure about doing. Rather than using the Windows install disc that came with the laptop (it is of course misplaced), I used the Windows Restore to go back to factory settings. I'm not sure if this may have played a role, but I am all out of ideas.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy computer was working fine for months. One day it wouldn't load windows and it was stuck at the black screen with the logo. I have searched the web and I am at the point where windows only starts in safe mode and when the drivers are disabled. I have used another video card and have even falled back on using the onboard video. The results are the same. What is keeping windows from loading the video drivers (Nvidia and Ati alike)? I have a spare drive with win7 and it loads/ starts with no problems so it is an issue with my main drive rather than the video cards or memory.
