Disabling the Application Compatibility Assistant (the rights and wrongs)
Firstly see this for reference. I decided to disable the ACA so it would not arbitrarily automatically set some compatibility mode on the program again.
What would be the repercussions of doing this apart from the obvious inability of windows not to be able to run a program. Then again surely if a program cant run in the latest greatest version of windows, its time it was either updated or replaced?
After working fine for months my Comodo Firewall failed to start properly on one bootup. Without giving me the option to say do NOT make any changes--for each of the two dialog boxes, I said just close the program--the PCA popped up saying it had applied a compatibility fix! (In the past on older OS's under similar circumstances, I would simply reboot and things would be OK afterwards WITHOUT having my system changed.)
How do I see what change(s) were made and, hopefully, undo them so I can reboot my system and see if the trouble reoccurs?
Im trying to run a program on Windows 7. The program is a logitech installer. But Windows 7 Program Compatibility Assistant blocks the program and prevent me from running it. I have tried disable the Program Compatibility Assistant service in the service manager and i have also enabled the "Turn off Program Compatibility Assistant" group policy. But windows still keep blocking the program.
I will contribute for the first time. The setting and the program Compatibility assistant who invalidated the program Compatibility assistant were deleted now. Then, the error of having failed in the initialization of phase 2 was output to the event log.
It is not found even if searching for a solution and I want to get help of everybody. When understanding the reason why the method of settlement and the error come out comes,I would like you to teach.I am sorry a little information.
Recently I dug up one of my older games that I used to love as a kid. The game was one of the first online games, and then offline games when you couldn't get online. However, I managed to make it work on windows 7, but every time I get on it will spend 5-10 minutes trying to ping the dedicated server that no longer exists.
My real question is there a way that I can make it so just that one program cannot access the web, if I can pull that off then I won't have to wait a year to play each game.
I have two applications. One is a game, another is a helper (sadly, not updated any longer). The helper program modifies the title bar of the game with some stats.
It displays correctly in XP, when I have Aero turned off and when I have clicked "Disable Desktop Composition" in compatibility, but not when Aero is running.
I'd like to disable aero (or just the titlebar transparency) for only this program but keep Aero running for everything else, is that possible?
One of our Microsoft Student Partner assignments was to create a video highlighting some of the features of Windows 7. I chose to do mine on using the Program Compatibility Wizard. I am not much of a video maker, but it explains the process pretty well.Other Windows 7 tips and tricks.
As a novice I went in on Windows 7 and applied the compatibility move to a program. It originally worked somewhat now it won't work at all. How can I "REVERT" the program to work as it did before applying the compatibility mode?
Why does the Windows 7 compatibility center list this program as compatible with Windows 7 when it CLEARLY does not work with Windows 7 without serious effort? Then, Microsoft doesn't even post workarounds for how to make it work with Windows 7! I know this game is really really old but it is a Microsoft game so they should put some effort into keeping it alive, particularly since it is better than AOE III.I have successfully installed AOEII: Age of Kings and the expansion (conqueror's) and updated to patch 1.0C or whatever it is called. When I go to run conqueror's the splash screen comes up saying that it is loading, I hear the CD spin, and then 3-4 seconds later the CD spins down and the splash screen just hangs there for eternity. The game never runs. I've tried running in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode and as an administrator.
Just found an interesting program. Laplink has come up with a system that will move all of you Windows XP programs to your new Windows 7 install. I haven't used this yet. I did clean installs on all of my machines, but I have a friend that wants me to help him with trying this next week when he gets his copy of Windows 7. I told him I thought he might be better off with a clean install, but since we've already backed up his data for doing a clean install, he wants to try this to see how it works, knowing if its not satisfactory, we'll go ahead and wipe the drive and do a clean install.
I've looked through the program. You run it from your xp boot. Then run a custom install of windows7 but don't format the drive. Reinstall the program and run it and it will restore the programs to Windows7. Here is the link if anyone wants to check it out. I think it may be worth a try for less than $20.
Im geting this when i try to link Live ID to windows account. How do i remove that "devices" ? went over my account&profile twice and didnt find anything...
Well this time I've got no screenshot but all I can say is this; the wireless support assistant for some odd reason is not loading, I know this because every time the computer is turned on and logged on a little square pops up, well anyways the thing is it doesn't pop up and no error message whatsoever. I know the problem isn't the built in wifi or the wifi button because it does change color on(blue) and off(orange).
To add more to this, since it seems like it's "loading" I click start then the whole explorer.exe freezes up, I try right clicking, task bar n etc. Yes I have tried system restore. The computer was fine an hour ago.. no updates or anything. The only way I can use the laptop is using safemode+network assistant since it doesn't load that wifi support thing. Since I've tried uninstalling hp wifi support assistant through safe mood, and it does not let me.
Can you use an upgrade disk to do an in-place upgrade using this sofware, or do you need a full system disk? I've gotten contradictory answers from LapLink support, so I need to hear from those of you who have actually used this app.

IE has a system pop-up that tells the user that disabling toolbars will speed up IE. It appears at the bottom of the window. I want to know how to disable this from IE9.lsewhere in these forums are the instructions for using the Group Policy Editor to do this; but gpedit.msc is not available in Windows 7 HomePremium edition. The post I saw says that HomePremium users have to edit the registry manually.I'm happy to do a registry edit but which entries do I have to edit and what values do I have to use, please?Other forums suggest setting the time delay to some seconds but this merely affects the time it takes for the pop-up to appear.
I've been trying for hours now to disable the alt+tab screen. I want to record a sequence of keystrokes, I want to be able to record ctrl+alt+tab, but whenever I press the keys, the alt-tab screen comes up so the buttons won't get recorded. I also have to record them in the actual order, I can't move them around so basically:
I need to be able to press ctrl+alt+tab without bringing up the swtich screen. I need to record theese keys in order. Is there something I can change, maybe in the registry?
Is it possible to change the hotkeys in windows? So that ctrl+alt+tab does nothing, and then switch it back after I've recorded the keystrokes?
Msi FX600 (MSI Europe ? Notebook - FX600) laptop has two onboard video cards - one for games, other for desktop/browsing/etc. IS it possible to disable nvidia gpu in order to save some energy. As I know, at IDLE, when I am looking at my desktop, GPU is still working at 127mhz speed. How to absolutely disable it without removing it?
Is it safe to have 0 megabytes of virtual memory? I have 8 GB of DDR2 and i don't see why i would need virtual memory. Plus i need to save some disc space
I know I have not discovered anything new with the following problem, but I have not yet read a workable solution.
I find the "bleeps" and "bonks" most annoying when I am navigating around Windows 7, and I am well aware what it says in the personalise/sound menus. The trouble is that opting for "no sound", or switching off individual sounds does not work. I have spent many hours on this problem, to little avail.
if there is a glitsch somewhere in the system, and if there is a solution other than to turn the speakers off. This would be a bit drastic some some of the sounds are useful.
I do not like at all using my touch pad with my laptop as i have lost more stuff doing that. Typing along and it somehow highlights everything and if you aren't watching and aren't fast, the next key stroke zaps everything. So I found before on my old lap top that the fn key and the f3 key together will work as a toggle (that sometimes irritatingly toggles its own self) to turn touch pad on and off.On my new laptop I found it had a control to completely disable the touchpad which was way cool, one time, done. Now amazingly enough the control is not locatable and the touch pad is activated and the fn f3 fix does not work either.computer manufacturer says restore to default settings but I don't buy it there has to be another way as that will wipe out all my settings and more?
I have been using an Acer Aspire 7551G windows 7, and when purchased the Wifi was already enabled and has always picked up available networks. However I think I may have accidently disabled it, pressing the F3 key does not do anything so it is not lighted up or showing any available networks.
