Delete Everything Off Laptop And Make It Like New Again?
Jul 27, 2012
I have a virus on my computer that I'm not willing to spend the money to get rid of, so I've come to the conclusion that I'll just reboot the damn thing to where it's new and suffer the hassle of having to download everything back, ie pictures, music, etcI have a Dell Laptop Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7. How do I get everything off of it completely? (As far as some recovery disk or even manual, I don't know where it it or anything in that nature. Isn't there some kind of button I can press in order to just get rid everything, except what it originally came installed with?)
I am on my grandparents desktop, and they recently had me dual boot Windows 7 onto their Windows XP machine, and they now no longer need XP anymore. The XP partition is listed as a System, Healthy, Active, Primary partition. The 7 partition is listed as a Boot, Active, Healthy, Logical partition. How can I delete/format the XP partition and make the Windows 7 a primary partition? I have tried by using Disk Manager, and Eauseus Partition Manager, but it won't let me convert it to primary, or format the XP partition.
Wasn't sure if this should go here or in the security area. My company has given me a year-old Dell Latitude that they were going to throw out because it got a virus. However, the laptop has all of their network security stuff on it, so I can't even get past the CTRL + ALT + DELETE screen. I mean I can't get in and do anything on this computer. I know I have to buy a new hard drive and probably reinstall Windows 7, but how do I know that this will get rid of everything and give me a clean slate? I don't have accesss to the administrator password, either.
I have Compaq cq-61 with T4400, 3GB Ram, Win 7, 64 bit. When I'm doing Backup via iTunes or doing some other "heavy" actions, the CPU and RAM goes up. There are no infections, malware etc... Just an old com that feels heavy How do I make my come lighter/faster?I'll be happy if someone can explain me about un neccessary background services, maybe disabling some graphic features etc
500 GB seems like a lot of HD space to me. My music collection only takes up 32GB and my pics only half a gig. Im not much of a gamer so woudnt really use it for that. Im wondering if I can get any tips as to how to fill up my 500Gigs, as it seems like a real waste that im not using this space with different bits and pieces.
My laptop seems to be really slow. I'm quite sure that my laptop has always been slow, so it's not like it suddenly just got slow. My laptop used to be Vista but was then I updated to Windows 7. To find more details about my laptop click the computer icon next to my username. I would like some suggestions on how I can make it faster as it's starting to annoy me.
P.S I timed my laptop to see how long it would take to turn on then open my browser, it took 5 mins, it may sound short but its not short when you have to wait 5 mins every time you turn it on.
whenever my laptop is in sleep it goes into hibernation after a period of time.. the only problem i have with this is that the hibernation feature freezes my comp due to a known issue that has no drivers yet.
I have a HP Presario CQ 60, the noise just started along with freezing up. I had the fan replaced a mt. ago, it just started today. It sounds like a deep hum almost a buzz that last 4sec. and stops then restarts, stops etc. I new to computers & I'm truly confused. Do I Ignore it?
I have a Logitech DiNovo Edge Wireless Keyboard and a Logitech M510 Wireless Mouse.
I can't get my laptop to wake up by pressing keys on the keyboard or by clicking the mouse. The only way I can get it out of standby is to press a key on the actual laptop or click something with the laptop's built it touchpad.
I already tried looking in Device Manager but there is no Power Management tab for the keyboard or the mouse. There is only a Power Management tab on the laptop's built in keyboard and touchpad.
It's kind of annoying not being able to use the wireless devices to wake up the computer. I've read around that maybe it's because since the computer is on standby, the wireless keyboard and mouse's USB receiver aren't being powered by the laptop.
i install autocad 2007 on my hp laptop notebook size, i try to open it, i cant see the other command below because the window is not fit tot he screen.
after months of trying to get my video card drivers to work with windows 7, i finally made it happen. after that happened the laptop started to be slow and laggy. there was no lag problems while the video cards weren't installed. i'm saying like Internet loads slow, so the audio plays fine and video skips constantly or freezes. scrolling and load times for the browser are skippy and very slow, respectively. i don't know what i should do about this. i have 2 nvidia 7900gs currently going with the temp. at 74c.
edit: i forgot to add, when starting up sometimes windows will freeze and i have to hold the power button to shut it off. and other times, when it's loading up the monitor shuts off and about 2 minutes later it will turn on and then windows will show up and finally load.
Want to know if their is anyway to make my laptop startup w/o showing error when it doesnt properly shutdown. My keyboard shorted out, wiggled the ribbon & the connector came off the motherboard.I have no usb keyboards. So if i don't shut down properly,it shows the error message with options.Usually startup repair is highlighted by default. And since I have no keyboard to change the option,it starts that automatically after countdown & I can't cancel it.
It's very irritating.I just been using the on screen keyboard,I actually don't mind that.I know just shutting it down properly will fix this. But their is times where I lose power to laptop sometimes.Im not a noob,I normally leave my laptop plugged up w/o battery when I use it.Sometimes the plug comes out(dogs knock it out etc.).I know most laptops are supposed to stop sending a charge to batt once it's 100%.But I think it's bs & don't trust it.My preference & opinion
My hand got bumped as I was getting ready to save a file in one of my folders, and the whole folder has just disappeared. It isn't in my recycle bin. Where might I find this?

I have live mail on my office pc. I press update all, it syncs online & my web browser based (live) hotmail gets all the new messages, folders etc. I want to go on holiday with my netbook. 1. When on holiday, I have live mail on my netbook. If I press sync, will it then download/update my netbook with all the browser based hotmail messages/folders etc.? So my netbook Live mail will look just like the office PC Live mail, will it? 2. When I get back off holiday, on my office pc, I press update, this I presume will then get all the new messages/folders from the browser on Live mail, will it? 3. But then now I am back, I want to delete all the messages/folders off my netbook for security, If I press or it accidentally, or I go away again & press update all on the netbook, will the browser Live mail then update the folders, deleting lots of them, as it is using the netbook as the latest update that it thinks I want? So to summarise, is there a setting on my netbook live mail, that says delete these folders/messages, but dont delete/sync online?
