Default Gateway Unavailable - Network Adaptor Errors
Jan 24, 2010
I used to have a ton of problems with my network adapter. It would always encounter and error saying "default gateway unavailable"
I recently reinstalled windows and updated the nvidia drivers for my motherboard and when I looked into the drivers folder in Cwindows/system32/drivers, I saw that there was a driver that says nvm62x64.sys and nvm64x64.sys. When I uninstall the drivers and leave the stock windows ones, i only get nvm62x64.
I think this is significant because the fix I found to this problem on a windows support forum was that if you download the vista driver for the motherboard and extracted it to folder, you would find a file named nvmfdx64.sys and you would then rename that to nvm62x64.sys (the win 7 file name). Then you would replace the windows driver with the aformentioned vista driver and everything worked for me and never had that default issue again.
so I am wondering what the heck is that nvm64x64.sys file that nvidia put in there and I think this may be the cause of the problems because everything works without the particular file.
any comments on that theory?

Recently, my computer has been losing it's connectivity. I've troubleshooted and these are the multiple errors I get:
-wireless network connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration
-the default gateway is not available
-the dns server is not responding
-the connection b/w your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken. The most common error I get is the default gateway is not available.

Seems to be popping up alot, so maybe some one has an idea. I recently woke up to find that my Acer Aspire 5250 notebook with an Atheros network card, which had the previous evening had wifi connection, no longer could get online. Further investigation showed that the notebook was/is connecting to the home network, although not recognizing it as such (just says unidentified network), can correctly communicate the WEP key, but is unable to get any internet connection. Specific error is that the machine has limited connectivity. Now, where this gets a little stranger is that it is the same with the ethernet connection - a physical connection to the router results in the same thing - a connection to the netowrk, but no internet connection.I first called Acer, who were useless, and wanted the machine mailed away for inspection at my cost - not bloody likely. They then said it must be the ISP and something to do with the netowrk configuration. I first tried a rollback to before the problem occurred - nothing. Called the ISP who said nope, not them, particualrly as it had been working, and I have another Aspire, an Asus O!Play Air and an Ipod touch on the wifi connection, as well as a wired connection for my desktop. They had me reset the router regardless, to no avail.
I then uninstalled the devices (LAN and wifi), and reinstalled them - no device errors in the manager, but also no change in the problem.

I have been getting this error, sometimes a few times a day or then sometimes a week.. But still it has the same effect as being on Facebook. The thing that happens is that I get a little yellow triangle with the exclamation mark on it and I cant get online and the only solution so far is that I have to troubleshoot my internet and then I am online again! But I need a better solution because yes no one wants every time to right click the network icon in the right corner and press Troubleshoot Problems.

I just installed this product USB Dual High Gain Antenna Wireless N Wifi Adaptor USB Dual High Gain Antenna Wireless N Wi-Fi Adapter (eBay item 170608181616 end time 25-Jul-11 14:23:40 AEST) : Computers
Soon as I plugged it in, my Win 7 (64) machine instantly identified it and installed the driver. Only problem is, the adapter remains disabled. I try to enable it, but it instantly disables itself when I do.
I could not find any clues in the System event log.
It's actually an rtl8187 chip by realtek. I tried installing drivers from the manufacturer (from the CD and from the internet) but windows insists that the microsoft driver it installed on detection is the most up-to-date driver and it ignores mfr driver. I tried installing a "legacy device" and I manually chose the mfr driver, but it does not work (and still has the microsoft driven device listed in device manager).
I tried this unit on another PC (also running windows 7 64bit) and it worked flawlessly. But on the two machines which really need the device, they both cannot enable the device once installed.

Two days ago i had a popup message from Mcafee but i closed it without taking a look, was kind of in a hurry. Yesterday morning, after the first reboot, windows started but nothing seems to work.
1. Many services do not start -
Workstation
Server
DHCP client
DNS client
Audio Service
HP Wireless Assistant
and many more
2. Services are missing -Network Store Interface Service (i tried to add it manually through the registry)
3. Windoes Services dependencies tab cannot be accessed, i get an error message "Win32: The specified module could not be found."
4. When i try to start services i get different messages -Workstation - "Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start" (this is the most common message)Audio Service - "The audio service on the local computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."HP wireless assistant service - This one starts and stops after a few seconds.
5. I have no network access, nor can i connec any USB devices.
6. the "RUN" option is missing from the start menu
7. I've noticed that "bowser" was missing from the services list in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetservices tried to add it manually as well, with no success
I did manage for a while to connect my mobile phone and transfer malwarebytes and combobox, but none could solve the problem. Now it won't recognice my mobile either.System restore is disabled for some reason, so that's not an option either.I can't even backup my data and prepare for a fresh installation (which is a bad option as is).

I just bought a new HP p6733w with 64-bit Windows 7. Ever since I set up my computer, I've been having the same problem. I keep losing my internet connection. Doesn't matter what I'm doing, all of the sudden my pages stop loading. An error message eventually pops up. I run the Network troubleshooter and it fixes it but I don't know why it keeps happening. It keeps saying "The default gateway is not available". [code]

For about a month or so ago, my internet connection started disconnecting randomly, and often several times a day. I have been using 7 in over a year now (never had this problem), and, as far as i know i am the only one having this problem in my family. it is only on my stationary comp i have this problem, not any of the 3 laptops or the other stationary with win7 installed. I have seen several other posts on this error, but most of them are over a year old, and the rest is for networking programs.

I just bought a Sony VAIO VPCEA3S1E and I have a problem with my WIFI connection. It says it connects to the local network and internet, but in reality, internet doesn't work. When I try to 'resolve the problem', it indicates that "The default gateway is not available". I've updated all things I could update (including VAIO related, Windows update, as well as the driver of the WIFI card) but the problem remains. In contrast, my flatmates manage to connect to the Wifi network. Also, I can have internet through the ethernet cable. FYI, my Wifi card is ATHEROS AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter. I'm also attaching a zipped version of the information system (.rar)

I recently bought an Alienware laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. The first 2 weeks or so i had aboslutely no problems, but after that the internet started to cut out randomly, it wouldn't completely disconnect, it would just show an exclamation mark over the wireless signal icon. The only way to temporarily fix it is to troubleshoot the network, and all it tells me is that "The default gateway is not available." Once i troubleshoot it the internet runs fine for a period of time, could be 30 seconds, could be 2 hours, but then it stops working again. I've searched online for weeks for a solution but nothing has worked. it's quite frustrating when your a big online gamer

Now it will not connect to the internet. Message is that it can't find a network adapter.
Is it because of the Starter version of Windows? Will installing a new copy of Home Premium fix it

While working in windows 7 x64 rc, every so often, the little networking icon gets a little yellow ! sign over it.
I thought at first my internet connection had been lost, but i couldnt' connect to the router SO i tried my laptop, and it connected fine to the router. And the internet was working.
Now, about once an hour, this happens. It is only fixable by disabling, then reenabling the ethernet adaptor itself. The adaptor simply stops transmitting and receiving, randomly for no reason.
I have an nvidia EVGA 680i SLI (nvidia) board, it has 2 on board 10/100/1000 ethernet ports. I have tried uninstalling them (with deleting the driver) and then reinstalling them, no such luck.
Worked perfectly in build 7077, but in the release candidate, i'm getting this recurring problem.
The problem, to reitterate, is not with the router, or with my internet connect. I'm saying that to stem the expected tide of "trun off your router, leave it for 30 seconds, turn it back on again" type responses
If anyone can help me, i would really appreciate that.
BTW< i have the latest drivers for my motherboard and so on. I have tried both WITH and WITHOUT the nvidia network manager. (network manager was incompatible with Vuze, and didn't solve the disconnects problem anyway).
Give me instructions if you need more information and i'll get it for you.. thank you so much.
Oh, and lastly, this is wired networking, in case you thought it might be a wireless problem. I've even tried using new ethernet cables. TO NO AVAIL!!

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, running Windows 7. Up until this morning everything was working fine (I've had it approximately 3 mos.), I haven't downloaded anything today or had any other problems, HOWEVER, suddenly my internet connection went out. That is to say, It still says I have full bars and that I'm 'connected' but it's an 'unidentified network' with no access to the internet or network. I've looked through a million help files today and tried them all and none of them have worked. I even used system restore to a month ago and it hasn't worked. I disabled all Mcafee products (expired anyway.) I called my internet provider and after they decided it was the computer and not the wireless they connected me to Dell, Dell definitively decided it's not a hardware problem but were going to make me pay to connect me to a software person. As far as I can see the network is set up correctly - the same as it's always been, and unlike all the other posts I've seen on it.. it does NOT work when I hook up an ethernet cable. My desktop is still working fine (obviously, I'm posting. lol.) When I run system diagnostic it resets the network configuration (doesn't help) and then tells me to investigate router or modem issues. (Also doesn't help.) There is no exclamation point or question mark etc. under Device Manager by my Dell Wireless card.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, running on a Dell. I purchased this computer back in February 2010, and the internet HAS ALWAYS been wired directly to the router. All of my networking and internet was constant until January 2011, when I switched from Comcast to Verizon (big mistake), as soon as Verizon routers were installed in my house, my computer (only this computer, not my laptop or my Xbox 360) kept losing internet connection, and I had to either unplug and plug in my ethernet cable, or troubleshoot and repair my default gateway. Well I switched back to Comcast again, and this problem is still standing. Every 6 hours or so it happens. I have tried everything involving disabling IPv6 and resetting my winsock in command prompt. So this must be a compatibility problem with my computer and the comcast router, right? The router is a Netgear Wireless-N 150 Router, WNR1000v2.

OK, getting the "default gateway not available" error like everyone else. However, it ONLY does it on one router, a Belkin F5D8236-4-v3. Every single other wireless connection never has a problem, only this one. I have the IP address set to auto detect.

I am having problems with my internet connection. I am running a pc behind a router with DHCP enabled. Often when I restart the computer the computers internal IP is also set as the default gateway.
My router is 192.168.1.1 My computer gets automatically IP 192.168.1.4 and then gets Default gateway of 192.168.1.4
Then I have to manually set the default gateway to 192.168.1.1 for it to work. But next time I use the computer the gateway has changed again and I have to change back.
What to do? I have the latest network drivers for my nvidia mobo and running windows 7. The name of the network I am connected to also changes a lot.

My desktop connects to my router via a netgear N300 wirelss USB adaptor. Also connected to my router is my media server PC which has a shared network drive. On bootup My desktop looks for the mapped network drive before it loads the USB. So it always shows the network drive as being unavailable. This is soon sorted by double clicking on the network drive icon. Is there a workaround so that the PC looks for the network drive after loading the USB network has been established?

I am connected to the internet via a wireless router and an extender...The connection was good and had a strong signal. Now it is off and on, mostly off. When I can get a connection, it sometimes lasts only as long as it takes to click on a link. Then no service... I seldom have a connection for more than a few minutes at a time. I have seen several error messages when I trouble-shoot. The one I see most often is "The default gateway is not available'.

I am using a 3G modem (Virgin Mobile MC760). In short; I have 2 connections; 1 is wired ethernet and the other is this 3G modem. I want to be able to use the 3G modem in a guest Vmware system while still using my regular ethernet for everything else in the host. (Unfortunately this modem doesn't work in VM so I am stuck having 2 internet connections in Windows 7 and trying to route this).I have read up on metric values but heres the problem. I set the ethernet for a metric value of 1 and the 3g connection as 9999, ethernet alone works fine, as soon as I connect the 3g modem it takes priority and changes my metric value of the ethernet higher and creates a 0.0.0.0 default gateway, when my ethernet is 192.168.1.1. The only way around this is if I disconnect my ethernet and reconnect it, it will then take priority and have both be connected and use ethernet.

So every time I reboot. I have to change my gateway IP in my Network settings.
everything saves but not my gateway IP. And my router does have the latest full version on firewall. I didn't want to upload a beta.
My old router worked fine with this but not my new one. I don't want to use auto-detect Internet connection, even do that works. I want to type in manually but everything saves but not the gateway. I got DCHP on.

Also in cmd if i type ipconfig /all, Windows IP Config, and Tunnel settings are shown , ethernet settings are not shown.
I tried with manual reset with netsh int ip reset C: esetlog.txt in cmd, but still the same problem.

Default Gateway is not Available. The internet on my laptop only works intermittently. After a minute or so of initial use, it stops working and when I run the troubleshooter it discovers that the default gateway is not available and then it says that it has fixed the problem. However, after only a minute or so more, the internet once again fails. I have tried the "run>cmd>enter>ipcongfig>enter" and found that the numbers for the default gateway are the same on my laptop as for a laptop that does work.
