View 1 Replies View RelatedI attempt to connect to my wireless broadband connection but when i click 'connect' a windows security pop up arrives stating that I need to provide a username and password for 'Network authentication'. I dont have these nor do I believe that I have ever included these perviously. This action has only recently appeared and I cannot 'bypass' it. I have other computers linked to the same wifi connection and these are operating just fine (the problem computer runs Windows 7 and is the only one with Win 7). So at least I know that it is not the internet connection itself.Maybe not of any importance but this problem only occurred after the unit ran out of battery power and has not been able to access my broadband service since the subsequent recharge.I have visited Win 7 Network centre on the computer to attempt to establish the problem (it recognises I have one) and been through all the troubleshooting options but no resolution.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently read the Wired article(s) all about the death of the password, and became inspired to attempt to improve my personal security measures. I recognize that simply making a better password is like putting a band-aid over a leak in a dam, but I feel like band-aids are all I have, so I'd better make due. I have looked into online encryption/hashing software, but am wondering if there are any I can trust (and if I should even bother pursuing) or if I should attempt to make one on my own.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy Windows 7 PC is asked for a Network Password (Windows Security Dialogue Box) on a home network when trying to access files on my XP machine on a two-PC home network. This was never been asked before. Windows 7 did a Windows Update last night and rebooted my computer. UserNames and passwords did not work. I did disable this feature from other recommendations... Local Policies > Security Options > Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only. My XP machine can access files on my Windows 7 machine and does not ask for a password.

Heres my problem everytime i try to move anything it says its denied i give it admin but it doesnt copy it anyway. I go to folder properties and set the security to allow "Everyone" Full control but it still wont work it says access is denied and i cant apply it. I can go into an individual file and set security settings there and be able to retrieve it however it is inefficient to try to do this to the next 3000 or so photos/files. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed Windows 7 Home Premium. The Account (Michael) is an admin account. All my documents are located on another Hard Drive. I have changed the location of the corresponding document folders to the other HDD. (using the right click on select person folder, change location).A make a new standard account and I was shocked to find that this account can access all of the Michael's account documents, they're even indexed so when I search from the start menu, my own documents, videos and photos quite easily show up in the results. Just has to open up Computer, open the HDD with the documents, and walla! There they are. For all to view. How is this so? Nothing is private. In any way. This is ridiculous. These are actually listed under my personal folder, but accessible to anyone. Doesn't even state the standard account needs permission. Plus it's indexed!I've tried changing the security settings on the folder, to no avail. I've looked in the indexing locations, and my personal folder isn't even listed in the areas to index

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a network share set up with everything working. My roommates can see, read, and download files from me, and my WDTV Live can play back music, videos, etc. These folders that are shared have Security settings with the user "Everyone" with Read & execute, List folder contents, and Read set to "Allow". The problem I'm having is when I add new files to a folder that is shared; it doesn't inherit this "Everyone" username permission to it's Security tab.

View 3 Replies View RelatedStarted using robocopy to do my backups. In my command lines, i can specify directories on a external drive to backup to.Some directories show up and i see everything. My most important directory " my documents" DOESNT SHOW UP. I have confirmed a backup is occuring, via log file and properties on the backup folder. I edited it down to a backup of only that folder. Log file shows good, external drive shows the "backup" root directory and properties ( size, number of files) match log file. Open up the backup folder, NOTHING LISTED. I have to run the script as adminstrator , my user is admin also, but if i run it as myself, it cant access the folder. I think im dealing with a rights issue, i have edited security on the external drive, even reformatted it , still nothing shows up?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo my laptop was working fine last night, woke up this morning and this issue appeared. I'm guessing it's a virus (stupidly, I haven't installed an AVP on this machine yet). Anyways, I can't open anything. Doesn't matter where I try to open the program or file from. The load icon appears but nothing happens. I also can't access the task manager or shut down/log off/etc. from the start menu, I get a "Failure to display security and shut down options" error msg. I'm in safe mode with networking right now, which is allowing me to open programs. I've already tried a system restore but it didn't solve the problem.

I get an "Open file Security Warning" pop up. Shows run or cancel. Hit run it brings up "Win Zip Self Extractor" pop up. I have already supposedly unzipped this into the downloads.
