i downloaded a few themes from microsoft website,but when i try to install them by double clicking them,,it simly doesnt respond
and the default progrma for .themempack file is "Windows Shell Common Dll" but i want to install these themepack so badly

View 3 Replies View RelatedFor the past few days, if not a week now, I've noticed that when I switch to Basic theme for RAM intesive programs like Adobe After Effects, Windows is quite slow, almost running as though my laptop is 1GB not 2GB RAM.Though when I switch to Aero theme, Windows is only slightly slower with Adobe After Effects running. My laptop is Compaq Presario CQ56, 2GB shared graphics and I can't explain why the Basic theme is running slow whereas Aero is responding faster, so much so, programs tend to stop responding more frequently on Basic. I have run MSE, MBAM and SAS (MSE realtime, others are standalone mode) and found no viruses and I update them all either daily or every two days. I only have Realtek Audio and MSE on Startup so I can't figure out why this happening!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI never realized it until just now, when I looked through Windows Update. It's been trying to install the service pack update about a hundred times behind my back since LAST JULY. and every time the status is "Failed."
I had checked because I just installed it last night again and shut down my computerr and everything seemed fine. Then this morning I noticed the windows update icon in the taskbar and saw it again even though I just installed it last night and noticed all the failed installations
I get Error Code: 0x800f0826.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a PC running windows 7 64-bit and I am finding it impossible to get windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) to install. I start the installation and it seems to run for more than an hour and appears to be installing OK; but when I restart the PC I get an error saying that the installation was not successful and it the rolls back to where it was before I started the installation. I have tried to install a numbr of times, but without success.I have also tried:
* Stopping all non-essential start-up items by disabling them booting on startup using msconfig.
* Stopped all firewall and anti-virus from running during installation
* Run the Windows Update System Readiness Tool (kb947821) before the installation
* Run the Windows Update troubleshooter
* Running the installer from within Windows Update, as a standalone x-64 bit installed downloaded from Microsoft, and as an iso file burned to a DVD
* Run sfc.exe /scannow which reported no errors.
Other Windows Updates seem to install OK - it is just the SP1 update that refuses.[For info: I have another PC that I recently updated (clean install) from XP to Windows 7. I had a similar problem on this PC after I had performed all the other Windows Updates and instaleld my normal suite of programs. SP1 also refused to install. In the end, I reistaleld Win 7 from disc and then immediately installed SP1 before installing any other updates or programs. SP1 installed OK. However I do not want to follow this route on my main PC as it has a load of programs installed which will take a few days to reinstall if I have to start from scratch].
I need to install the Windows 7 Icelandic Language pack on some computers.The file is LIP_is-IS-64bit.mlc. which I've got from MS.These files used used to have the prefix MUI -- I'm a bit flummexd on how to install a language pack manually with the *.MLC suffix?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI was updating neighbors PC last night and when I tried to install the windows 7 service pack from windows update at the end of the install it would say it failed then when I rebooted the pc it would say configuring windows and when it reached 32% it would stall and then say it was removing updates and reverting, then it would reboot, do the same thing, reboot and do that cycle like 6 times before windows would actually load up like normal. It happens if I download the .exe version or I try to get it from windows update.
Its a dell pc (forgot the model but its newer has a core i7 860 in it). Has windows 7 ultimate 32bit on it.
Is it possible to install the service pack on a laptop without having it plugged in?I have tried the stand alone update and thru windows update. Keeps saying to plug in my power cord.

I have never had SP1 before. I recently rolled back my PC a few day with system restore, then updated Windows to the newest updates. I downloaded SP1 32-bit and when I try to install it, it installs right to almost the end and gives me: Error 0x80070002.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to install W7SP1, I get an error message after it tries to install after restarting after having downloaded it in Windows Update. It's error code 0x800f0826. IT used to be 0x80071a9, but I fixed that I think.
Note: My laptop does not have a built in disc reader, because of its design, nor did it come with any W7 CD's.
I have tried to install this update six times today (07/05/12) after it was flagged as an important update this morning. Looking at my update history it also failed to instal on the 18th October last year but it has not bothered me since and i have not noticed it until now. Of the seven attempts I had the following error codes from earliest to latest : 800B0100, 80246007, 80010108, 8024200D, 8024200D, 8024200D, 8024200D. I have followed advice from MS running KB947821 and FIX IT also disabled my Norton 360 firewalls and auto protect but to no avail. Also I do not have a DVD with Windows 7 as it was not supplied with my PC and I don't want to restore my computer and lose all my installed software.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been getting notifications for Service pack 1 for the last 2 months, so about 2 weeks ago I decided to install the update. The first time of trying it didn't install and after 3 other attempt it still hasn't worked. The update runs and downloads all the components then restarts. As soon as the Laptop goes to boot up it says configuring. It then goes to 10% and stops and aborts. The Laptop restarts again and configures back to default setting and starts normally again with a box saying Service pack installation was unsuccessfully. After a bit of research I found out that I may need to install System Update Readiness Tool. This programme will not install on my pc either for some reason?.

View 2 Replies View RelatedShortly after installing a theme (I can not remember as I can't get into the file system) which is as far as I can see a perfectly legitimate theme (recommended by a user from overclock.net) explorer.exe hasn't worked. I installed it, it asked me to restart explorer.exe by pressing the button. I got the error that it could not start. Itrecommended that I restart the computer before all changes take place. I assumed that I had to restart the computer for Explorer.EXE to work. It did not. i see a lot of drivers pack for win 7, is it neccessery to have a driver cd installed with win 7, or it's enough if i have the drivers for my hardware as win 7 compatible, so is there any need for that extra drivers package cds if i have the right installer drivers?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to free space in my HD and I when through the uninstall process of all the additional languages I had initially installed (lpksetup) and after clicking on all the languages I wanted to uninstall the system estiamted that I would recover about 8GB. The uninstall went through fine bu I did NOT recover any space, actually the disk utilization went up by about 3GB after windows removed all the additional languages. Then I decided to re-install all the additional langugae just to see if the free space in the HD would increase by 3GB. Well... the free space went down one more time, now by about 6GB. So my HD has additional 9GB of data on it. I have no idea what to do or what folderm, temp file to delete.BTW I already tried:Disk Clean Up Delete all the temp files in all users in AppDataTemp I turned off hibernation before I started all this process I ran windows washer and delete all the temp, cookies, interenet, etc files My laptop has always been running an AV, Spyware so this is not a Virus or Spyware. I already scanned also with Malware Bytes.Any temp folder I should take a look to delete any additional file(s) that are temp or not needed?

When I went to bed it was at 8%, when I woke up it was at 8%.Luckily I have an Ubuntu dual boot.
