^this doesn't lag on xp, is there a way to fix this on windows 7
I'm currently experiencing some issues with my computer, specifically, BSODs. They've never happened before, it's only been in the last few weeks that they have happened. They don't happen often but it happens when I'm playing games, these aren't newly installed games, I've played them for over a year with no issue.
I have a seagate 2 TB external HDD. It has 1 FAT32 partition. Everything works as expected in Windows Vista/7 and even in Ubuntu. When connecting the external HDD to any XP machine (tested 3 computers with XP), the device will not show up under My Computer. It is visible in Device Manager.Under Disk Management, the drive shows up without any labelling and has improper file system and partitioning. It's as though the partition table is messed up, however, the drive works perfectly on any Vista/Windows 7/Linux pc. [code] Not only is the capacity incorrect, but darn well everything else about the drive shows up incorrect under Disk Management. This happens with all XP PCs. Also, I ran a SFC /SCANNOW with one XP machine in the event the FAT32 drivers or DLLs were corrupted and no resolve.I reinstalled XP on the same machine and the results were identical.
For years I've had an internet provider that required me to use certain IP addresses, assigned to me by that provider. It worked perfectly fine all the time. Now, for several reasons, I have a new provider. This one requires auto detection for the IP address (or whatever it is called in English, "Automatisch beziehen" in German). And now I often have connection problems on the PC in my study, which is connected via router. Then I can't access the internet. Windows shows me my usual connection which is called Network 2 and tells me it has no connection, and it also shows me a new Unidentified Network which it obviously created by itself which also has no connection.Unplugging and re-plugging the network cable doesn't help; Windows does a new network scan then but the problems remain. I have to re-boot, sometimes even two or three times, and then all of a sudden the Unidentified Network is gone and my regular Network 2 is working again.
I can only connect to the network using 64 bit applications on Window 7 Pro SP1.The problem occured after installing the latest version of iTunes (may or may not be related). I uninstalled iTunes with no change. IE 32 bit crashes after opening. Firefox opens but gives Server Not Found error. I cannot connect webservers on the local network with Firefox either. Filezilla will not connect to local or remote servers. VNC will not connect to local servers - IE 64 works fine and command line tools like ftp and telnet to internal and external sites works fine - this is not a DNS, Firewall, or Routing issue.
Same results in Safe Mode sfc /scannow runs clean.
I reset the winsock, uninstalled all my network adapters, including the drivers and resinstalled them.Rebooted multiple times.Unfortunately I just discoved that System Restore was not enabled so I can't roll back.I doubt this is malware related as I have multiple levels of defense (postini, SpyShelter, Symantec Endpoint) and outside of iTunes have not downloaded or installed anything or even visited unusual websites. I'm about to do a deep scan that will probably take a few hours just to play it safe.
I recently installed Windows 7 on my laptop. However when ever I restart my laptop i have two windows 7 to choose from one works one doesnt. How do i delete the Windows 7 that doesnt work from the bootmgr?
So I have a SB Audigy SE (SB0570) and I installed Windows 7 about a month ago. Initially, my sound did not work even though I installed the drivers correctly. It began working one day when I restarted the computer in safe mode and then restarted it again normally.
Today, however, it failed again. The only thing that I can think of that has changed is that I installed drivers and software for my Sony Handycam last night. I've since uninstalled the software, but to no avail. When I click on the sound icon in the system tray with Winamp playing, I can see the green bar jumping up and down, signifying that there is sound. I've tried using speakers and headphones, so I know it's the sound card that's causing the problem.
I have uninstalled my drivers and I've tried daniel_k's drivers (first the ones that were too new for the SE - lol - and then the ones that were designed for the SE, the 2.0 version), the drivers that Windows 7 automatically downloaded for me, the 917x support pack, and the drivers that Creative provides on their site for Windows 7. None of them made any difference. My current driver reports its version as 5.12.1.2020, and Windows says that it's working correctly.
Can anyone tell me why I can't get sound even though my drivers seem to work? What might have caused this seemingly random problem?
I've just recently purchased a generic wireless mouse from eBay. more specifically, this one: 2.4GHz USB Receiver Wireless Optical Mouse F PC Laptop | eBay it doesn't work. I'm running Windows 7 64bit and it started installing the drivers, first it was installing "HID Wireless Mouse", then it switched to "USB Input Device" but failed after 3 seconds. now it's listed in Device Manager as "USB Input Device" with yellow sign that indicates it doesn't work. I tested it in 2 other Windows 7 32bit computers and it works just fine! installing drivers and everything. moreover - I testes my bro's logitech wireless mouse on my 64bit Windows 7 computer and it works fine. I think Windows fails on recognizing it. I mean the drivers are there.. the Logitech Mouse works but mine doesn't.. how do I make it work?
After I close programs that are still pinned to the task bar, can I install another program where the install wizard recommends closing any programs before continuing?
The Intel(R) 82579LM Gigabit Network adapter works about 40% of the time. The other 60% it says there is a hardware issue and it cannot connect. I then generally fiddle around with the ethernet cable ie unplug it plug it back in move it around again and restart. This sometimes works and I have no problems. Then when I restart my computer its a whole game on whether I can get it working again or not.
I have the latest drivers, and it is not a firewall/security issue.
I've googled this and found heaps of people having the same issue, but nothing that actually resolves it. I'm using a laptop with internal wifi but I also have an external wifi dongle as I connect to my neighbours internet (I have permission and the passwords, etc). Both the internal and external used to work fine and both would have internet connection. But something recently has changed and now the internal wifi still works with both network and internet connection, but the external one only has network connection and no internet connection. The reason I use the external one is it gives much better signal strength than the internal one and, as said, both used to work just fine. Now I've tried uninstalling the external drivers and dongle and reinstalling it but no dice. I've tried doing the netsh stuff people have recommended in some of the search pages but no dice. Tried release and renew of IP, but no dice. I've disabled all firewalls but no dice (and I figure the firewalls would stop both connections anyway but I thought I'd try it
I formatted both my laptop and desktop computer. When i did with my laptop, everything was great. Wireless still worked. Of course i have my linksys router connected to get the wireless.
I then formatted my desktop. Its a dell. When i did this, everything seemed great. However, i noticed that if i remove my wireless router and just connect my cable modem wired, it works. However, when i connect my wireless router, then my wireless internet works but my WIRED connection does not work. It has this message that says can't connect.
I don't think this has ever happened before. I mean, there were many times where my desktop got formatted and my wired internet worked and i could not get my wireless connection to work. But never had i had my wireless work and my wired connection not work. The one thing i did this time was after i installed the drivers with my windows cd, i then deleted the old windows file that was about 25 gb.
You cannot move appp around in windows as windows makes DLL files and registry entry and moving it will break it.Also Microsoft wants people to use shortcuts and moving apps will break the shortcuts of path of the files.
In OS X all files needed to to run the app are glued with the app and in windows you must run the installer to make the directory where it will copy all files to run the app ,make path ,make the shortcuts and DLL files and registry entry .
Moving files around break the DLL files and registry entry .Part of this is to stop illegal copying. In windows people use the installer to remove or install app we never move app around like in OS X .
Also most time apps have to run in system level in windows not like OS X It is not the scopes of Linux ,windows ,OS X security myths but the thread got little of topic of talking about moving appp around in windows and other OS.
what can you expect if you try and install a Windows 7 application with hardware and drivers on a Windows xp OS. I am looking for technical data on this scenario not just that it will not work.
I would like to move windows 7 and some of my games and apps to my new faster HDD, how would i go about doing this correctly? (so it is the boot drive and games run from the new drive)
My HP laptop has decided it just wants to sit there after I try to open applications. A friend of mine reommended I download Combofix as he thought this would resolve issue...it hasnt. What I have noticed, is that for the past few days, if I have tried to open firefox, it has come up with error that its already open, but if I wait a few seconds, it works fine. The firefox prob happened once before and I hate to delete out a profile and bugger around with with another setting, but I cant remember what I did. ANother thing I have noticed, is when an app does eventually open, after about a minute, it states its not responding up the top, but then it disappears and app seems fine. If you try to use arrow keys to scroll down, it hesitates sometimes also....
Today i modificated DEP and since then if i restart windows all my apps crashing cant open anything. The original setting was: Turn on Dep for essential Windows programs and services only and i modificated it to: Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:and i added 2 games exe files (did this because i read on several forums that the game crash to desktop with no reason if i dont do it (and it was crashed for me making the game unplayable) )So if i start my computer and windows start i get Application Error - 0xc0000005 Usually with windows MSN, skype etc programs startup automatically, but now not and get the above mentioned error. At all i cant start Any of my programs or services, because get the same error.Tried the system restore in Repair Computer, but not helped at all.And next to my cursor the loading circle thing is always shows and blinks, like it trying to load something. It never stops.
After recently installing 7 Starter N on my 6 year old laptop I soon found out how limited the OS is, one thing that specifically bugs me is the (almost) inability to change the wallpaper. I found a few articles online showing some registry editing to place wallpapers, but many users ran into difficulties changing the wallpaper a second time. I also realize there are such programs to do this task such as Oceanis and ThemeIt? Using basically the same use of the registry editor as many guides showed plus the use of some further permission and ownership changing to the wallpaper folder within the Windows directory to override TrustedInstaller to be able to swap out files as I please, I came across a very simple way to change the wallpaper by replacing the "img0.jpg" with a picture of the users choice, then log out/in to view the change, as detailed below:
------------------------------------------------------------------- PART 1: Changing user permissions.
1. Navigate to C:WindowsWebWallpaper, Right click the "Windows" folder and select "properties".
2. Click the "Security" tab and highlight "Administrators (User-PCAdministrators)" and click on the "Owner" tab. Click the "Edit..." button, then highlight "Administrators (User-PCAdministrators)" and check off the box for "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects. Click the "OK" button, then again in the dialouge box that pops up next.
3. Click on the "Permissions" tab in the "Advanced Security settings" window and make sure both "Administrators (User-PCAdministrators)" and "Users (User-PCUsers)" have a permission setting of full control. If they do not, click the "Change permissions" button and edit both to have full control. Click the "OK" button on each of the windows to back out and save your changes.
PART 2: Editing the registry.
1. Open the start menu and type "regedit" into the search bar and hit enter. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop. Find the entry titled "Wallpaper" and double click it to open. Change the value to C:WindowsWebWallpaperWindowsimg0.jpg and hit "OK".
2. Right click the "Desktop" key and click on "Permissions...". Click the "Add" button and type "Everyone" and click "OK". Click the "Advanced" button and make sure the "Everyone" group is highlighted. Click "Edit..." and check off "Read Control" and hit "OK" on that window, then again on the "Advanced security settings" window. In the next window highlight "Everyone" and check off the "Allow" option for "Read". Hit "OK".
3. Now you should be able to place any image with a .jpg extension named "img0" into the "C:WindowsWebWallpaperWindows" directory, and once you log off and back in your wallpaper should be changed!
I have a new HP Win 7 Home Premium computer, AMD 6-core, 6GB, 1T HDD, 64 bit and want to minimize the hassle of transferring apps and files from an HP Vista computer, AMD dual core, 32 bit, 2GB, 350GB. Any advice re PC Mover v. Zinstall
I just found a very very strange issue that my Windows 7 Ult x64 installation has. Whenever I type in any of the built in programs (like CMD, explorer, the search bar in the start menu, notepad, etc.), the program freezes. But when I try to type in any other program, like Chrome, it works just fine. Does anybody know how to fix this? It's quite annoying, and I sorta need to use my computer...
Keyboard: Razer Lycosa I did check for driver updates already.
my laptop is hp pavilion dv7 with fingerprint scanner. is there any way or software by which i can login to my internet accounts like Internet etc., by fingerprint scanner and also protect my software with fingerprint scanner?
Windows 7 Premium 64 bit's Task Manager used to show a bar with pplications/Processes etc., with lists below making it possible to "end-now" some apps and stop some processes at least for a while to save on CPU/Memory usage. There was also provision by a menu bar at the top of Task Manager window to shut down pc etc., from within the task manager.Presently my Windows 7 Premium 64 bit's Task Manager shows only what looks like a list of processes (Not Applications) topped by a head-bar having Name/PID/Description/Status/Group and a selectable button at the bottom right for Services.(I could have uploaded ascreen if this Ask Your Question Form had provided for attachments!).I suspect this change in Task Manager came after some new installs - Windows Updates etc.
Windows 7 sp1 on hp 6550 probook, i5 450M processor with 8gb ram.
Been using this machine for 2 years no problem, suddenly its all freezing up. Any app I start sits and goes to "not responding" and eventually returns, even windows explorer takes minutes to open a folder. Browsers take forever to load a page. Its exactly like a memory leak or a process sucking all the memory, but in task manager cpu usage is v low about 10%, memory usage v low about 40% of 8gb, and no one process is taking lots of memory, Ive rebooted several times no change Ive installed all latest updates no change Ive run scannow and no issues were found Ive run a chkdsk on response was volume is clean ( almost instantly?) Cpu temp is fine at around 55 C
Ive run malwarebytes and found no malware Ive run a full virus scan with Avira and no viruses
Ive done a system restore to as far back as I could go (only to this morning) but no help.
I have a new notebook with Win 7 home premium 64bit. + office 2010 professional. It has taken me almost 2 weeks to get all the info from the old notebook into the new one. Now I have a legal Enterprise Win 7 64 bit. disc from work and I want to install the Enterprise on the notebook and still maintain all the apps and Outlook mails etc. Is this possible or am I going to have to spend another 2 weeks reinstalling everything and no longer having the toshiba apps that came with the original start up/recovery disc?
After a minor infection, something Komondo calls trojware.win32.agent.gen@218380279 I can not run Malwarebytes, Spybot or AdAware.Networking not getting an IP from the router either. Have tried netsh winsock reset and went to ControlPanel-Network & Sharing-network connection but it comes up blank. Ethernet card shows up in Device Manager.Just discovered that almost every service is disabled!
