Every time Windows triggers an dialog alert (like windows asterisk, windows critical error ect.) I don't hear the event sound related to it. I looked over and over the settings in the config screen: looking for currupted settings in my windows sound scheme or currupted media files in the windows media dir. But it seems that everything is simply okay, all the settings are correct and the files work well (I can hear the sound when I click test in the sound config screen). It just looks like it that the sounds do not get triggered by the event. It just came out of the blue, everything worked fine and just the other day I did not hear dialog event sounds anymore. Things I have tried:
- Sfc /scannow to fix possible currupted media files (although I did not think this was the problem, since all the files work just fine). No effect.
- Reset the default sound scheme of windows of a few times, even tried some other sound shemes that come preinstalled with Windows 7. No effect.
- Tried to reinstall my sound drivers (no idea why I tried that because my sound works just fine). No effect.
- Made a new user account to see if the problem was account related. No effect.
In short: What is the possible cause/solution for windows events sounds not triggered/suppressed by the dialog event itself (all settings/sound files correct)?
Some of my Windows sound scheme sounds do not play. In the sound scheme settings, under Program Events ,regardless of sound scheme selected, the Sound events for Windows DO NOT play, but sound events for Windows Explorer, and every single other application, DO play. When I click Test, the sound always plays, but in practice, never does. This only happens with the sound events under the Windows category everything else plays fine. Ive tried changing the sounds around (using different sound files), and its not the sound files themselves, my sound drivers, or anything like that. Ive tried checking the registry, and that seems to be set up correctly. Ive tried creating a new user profile, and it has the same problem. If you redirect me to a thread about similar problems, chances are, Ive already read it if its easily found by a Google search. Not everyone has had the same exact problem anyway (where it plays when I click Test and only the Windows events are affected). Please dont tell me to re-format, re-install, or repair Windows.
My current problem is that it occasionally gives off a clicking noise, I am assuming that the problem is the HDD because there is nothing else that's moving in the computer (besdies the BD-ROM, but it doesn't count). I look onto the event viewer and every time this happens it shows an error in the log files. [code]
I'd like to launch a custom batch file when my computer goes into sleep mode. I would like to launch this batch through a GPO or task scheduler. I've tested using task scheduler and the power event ID for sleep mode but it seems the event triggers too late for the application to run and the computer just continues into sleep mode. I could create a scheduled task to trigger a minute before the idle time-out for sleep mode but this doesn't work if I actively put the computer into sleep mode. Any way to do this?

Basically my laptop has been having very high temperatures for a long time (usually ~60C for CPU and often 100-110 for GPU...insanely high, in other words) For example, see how hot the machine gets just by resuming from a sleep (this is all within a minute or so):I have been seeing the following error in event viewer each time I start Windows (4 entries) for some time:So today I bit the bullet and had the back cover off the laptop and noticed what a bad state the thermal compound was in, for both the CPU and the chipset chip, so wiped it off using TIM Cleaner, and then applied new thermal compound and put the laptop back together. I was actually shocked because for the first time since I can remember, I could feel cold air blowing from the vents of my laptop! I logged into Windows and noticed that my temperatures had fallen and were staying at around the below:Not as low as I'd like but a massive improvement. Trouble is, I am still getting the WHEA-Logger event errors in Windows Event Viewer ('processor core') and wondered if this was not in regards to overheating after all?The plus side is my laptop is now almost totally silent - the way it must have been when I bought it new 3 years ago! But I was wondering how to investigate these WHEA-Logger errors?PS - I think I accidentally got some TIM Cleaner spilt on the carpet. Might be nothing to worry about, but I did notice the "Harmful" hazard symbol on the bottle?
My computer has "No sounds" as the Control Panel/Sounds choice. It still makes a "boing" noise at odd times happens as well. Neither of these sounds are among the Windows Media .wav sounds. I did a search for .wav and listened to every .wav on my computer. The boing isn't one of them. Anyone else have this problem?
After getting used to working with Windows Live Mail, a problem started as I would click on a link inside the e-mail, that normally would automatically open a browser window leading to more info on the e-mail topic.
2 weeks ago, when I'd click on a link in the e-mail, a Word document would open instead of a browser window.
So I uninstalled Microsoft Office 2010 version and thought that would solve the problem. Then a few days later, when I'd click a link again in an e-mail, the window opened to print, on all links of every e-mail that should have opened browsers.
I noticed that I still had Windows Office 2007, so I uninstalled it also, but am left with the print window opening whenever I click a link in an e=mail.

Clean install from Microsoft image and valid key from Microsoft.
Computer rarely restarts during the time I am using it. It restarts if I leave stuff downloading overnight or if I leave on during the day. I then have to re-install any software I installed the previous time because it says it was shutdown improperly ( CRASHED).
I then check the Event logger and see it has multiple crash reports.
I show 20 of these crashes so far and I just built the system yesterday. I need help in determining what could be causing this. The motherboard? Old Videocard? Windows 7? 64 Bit platform? Any thoughts?
I just built a brand new i7 920 System.
Specs:
i7 920 ( Stock Speed ) Asus P6T SE Motherboard Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit Power Supply Antec 750W Modular PSU CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS 10X Extreme Samsung DVD burner Seagate 1TB Drive 7200 RPM's RAM: Kingston Hyper X 6GB of DDR3 @ 16000MHZ ( stock also) KHX1600C8D3K3/6GX
All parts are brand new except for the videocard which is a NVIDIA Geforce 7300 GS
This has been popping up in my event log and preplexing me... I want to get rid of it, but don't know what exactly is generating it and wondering if anyone has any insight...

In the Link, is a picture of the dialog box that shows greyed out. I have been helping a friend with her computer. The system is a windows 7, 64 bit, home version, everything stock. I have cleaned out the system free from viruses and other malicious codes that could have been lurking around there. Installed avast and mbam with spybot on reserve. Everything works, until this happens. The only way that we can make the dialog box fix is to change the display settings and then apply the settings. Later on after answering the question or downloading a file, change the settings back.
One morning, my firefox would hangup and crash when opening some website. I would then forcefully shut it down and restart it and it would hang again if I would restore the old pages. I thought to update firefox and I got the option to update from v3.6 to v4.0.
When I updated, the pages that would hangup the browser would now open, but with text not appearing. I cannot remember those websites specifically now that all of them open in the latest version. But one link I remember is this: Dialog box buttons/text is missing and Microsoft management - Microsoft Answers
This link would hangup the browser v3.6, But after update to v4.0, it now opens but appears like in the screenshot bellow: (Notice the text in search box and bellow the post)
Apart from this, I notice this text missing in some dialog boxes like - when saving files in some applications, and also during installations of Programs, Screenshot examples bellow:
For a couple of weeks, the Windows 7 Sound dialog box (the one with all the Playback/Recording, etc options under Control Panel-Hardware and Sound) has been randomly opening. I'll close it and at some later time it will spontaneously reopen, although unpredictably. The OS is the 32-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium running on an HP Pavilion Slimline s3330f that we've had for a couple of years prior to the emergence of this issue.
I know I have not discovered anything new with the following problem, but I have not yet read a workable solution.
I find the "bleeps" and "bonks" most annoying when I am navigating around Windows 7, and I am well aware what it says in the personalise/sound menus. The trouble is that opting for "no sound", or switching off individual sounds does not work. I have spent many hours on this problem, to little avail.
if there is a glitsch somewhere in the system, and if there is a solution other than to turn the speakers off. This would be a bit drastic some some of the sounds are useful.
One night watching online tv sound disappeared and then few second later came back.So now I am getting random times where sound just cuts out for 2 - 40 seconds, This happens when watching movies, playing games, listening to music and ect.I got a Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI Express Sound card and my on-board sound chip is disabled and I got Logitech 5.1 x-540 Surround systemI've done some tests when the sound cut off I plugged the audio cable to on-board chip(Enabled it for the test) and then the sound card but they both had no sound. So I am guessing its not hardware issue. I did nu-installed old drivers and installed new ones but they haven't fixed the issue.
Just installed Windows 7 fresh on a new intel 320m 160gb. After i type in my password at the login screen windows hangs for about 15 - 20 seconds on welcome with the moving circle. Total boot time is about 40 - 50 seconds. I've checked the event log and an event 100 and event 200 show up at every boot and shut down but it does not tell me what process is causing this. I've tried a clean re install of windows 7 with a non sp1 and an sp1 disk and get the same results. I used windows boot or starup repair and it said something about an audio device? So i unplugged my Asus xonar but im still getting the same hang time on welcome. So far nothing is plugged in the computer except for mouse keyboard monitor and ethernet cable. I'm on a home network with one computer. The setup is gigabyte z68x ud3h b3 G skill 16gb ram or now 8corsair 800ax psui7 2600kgtx560I've installed plenty of windows 7 on many intel ssd's (mainly x25 m) and this is the first time ive seen this slow of a boot time and its especially odd that it gets hung up on the welcome screen. I've tried searching fora
my download dialog box won't appear anymore, instead a thin rectangular white box with yellow trimming pops up, and it will say its going to run/open/ or save something, but it doesn't.
I keep hearing random windows sounds in the background when I'm playing a game and I keep hearing the little sound it makes when you hit shutdown in windows.
This is the first time I have actually posted to a forum, I can usually find what I need just by searching them. Anyway, I didn't see one on here about this so here's my question: Can I make my win 7 play a sound when someone tries to log on my user profile, and gets the password wrong? I seem to recall WinXP doing it but it has been so long I don't remember. I tried to find it under the sounds pane in the sound settings, but no luck
I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I would like to disable all the windows sounds, however, this option is greyed out (see link below for screenshot). Why is it greyed out and how can I silent the Windows sounds
i installed an alien theme by windows sev7n on my alienware 15x home premium 7 and after that when i restarted my lappy it showed warning cannot access sound system...i checked the personaliasation then clicked sounds i found a default sound theme writtten in some chinese order...whats the cause of the problem and the solution too...cannot use any theme after that error.
Whenever I use the windows open/save as dialog box, I'm unable to expand 'My Documents' folder under Documents. Yet, I'm able to expand 'My Documents' folder from windows explorer. Same is true for all the Libary folders under Documents, Music, Pictures, and Videos. I can only expand the first folder level.
I was modding Morrowind and I added one too many which broke it, so I uninstalled it, thinking i could just re-install it. But then it didnt work, so i used uniblue registry booster to clean my system registry, and after that no music or sound (apart from the UAC bloop sound) worked.
What do I do guys? should I just format my drive and reinstall Windows? i could move all my important stuff to my mac
My Dell Studio 1558 freezes since I tried to reinstall the Windows 7 64 Ultimate a few weeks ago. And within the past few days it has frozen and made a scratching noise when I watch some online videos or webinars.
It tells me that I have USB devices that are not working and says under Device Manager Other Systems that: "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28). There is no driver selected for the device information set or element. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver."
But when I try to update the driver it says: "Windows was unable to install your Base System Device. Windows could not find the driver software for your device. If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for drivers software."
Well. It's Dell. And when I run a dell pc check it tells me that everything is fine.
I have a Toshiba Satellite computer with a Notebook model and a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit operating system. This laptop computer has an Intel Core i3 processor. My problem is that my Skull Candy headphones will let me hear everything except the files in my Windows Media Player. When I try to play those files, the files will play through my speakers even when the headphones are plugged into the headphone jack. When I unplug the headphones, everything works fine
My sound is acting strange since i've installed Windows 7. (Ex-Vista user). It's making static/crackling sounds when I listen to music, or play games anything that makes sounds is getting disturbed by some kind of interrupting sound that makes crackling sounds..
Things I've tried: 1. I tried switching the cables (bought new ones) 2. I tried different speakers 3. I tried 2 different headphones 4. I tried cleaning my computer (dust) 5. I tried to get rid of any disturbing devices (phones, radios) 6. I tried uninstalling my device (HD audio device) and test it, and reinstall it, and test it again 7. I tried a reset boot (holding button for few seconds) 8. I got rid of my webcam it contained a microphone.
I just upgraded my Window Vista Home Premium x86 to Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Everything is okay after upgrading except for the speakers. When I play any kind of audio files, it has a buzzing sound. And if I turn my volume up, the buzzing will be louder. Everything was okay before I upgraded to Windows 7. Now this thing happens.
Audio software I'm using : Realtek HD Audio Manager
