Windows Task Scheduler Kills Tasks That Appears To Be Non-responsive

Nov 9, 2012

I have scheduled a program to run every morning that will pull data out of our SQL server (the tool is "Toad"). I want to have that data ready when I come in the morning. Problem is, at that time, there are other tasks running on the SQL server making in slower to spit the data out, but it eventually sends it, always. Windows 7 (or the Task Scheduler itself, I am not sure which one) seems to think that the program has become unresponsive and stops it. When I look at the history of the task, it says the last execution status is "(0x0)" meaning completed successfully. I know it did not because the Excel spreadsheets that receives the data is still open and hasn't received all the data it should - it nevers stops at the same point so it is not an issue with my retrieval scripts. If I launch the task manually during the day, when the SQL server will respond in a timely manner, the task will complete successfullly. If I use the tool itself, it never gets killed, and I haven't seen Window complain it has become unresponsive even when it runs for a long time. Otherwise, anyone knows of any settings that would prevent Windows or Task Scheduler to kill what it thinks are unresponsive tasks or at least, change the delay before it thinks so?

Windows 7 Kills A Task That Appears Non-responsive But Is Just Slow?

Sep 28, 2010

I am trying to create a DVD using Cyberlink PowerDirector. It reaches 21%, at which point Windows 7 deems it non-responsive and kills it.I tried it on my old Windows XP machine and noticed that it DOES sit at 21% for a very long time (minutes) but eventually soldiers on to successful completion. So it seems that Windows 7 is being a bit eager to kill off this task. Is there anyway I can turn off this feature in Windows ... or increase the time it waits ... or exempt a certain .EXE from being axed?I have tried searching online but of course any search with the term "non-responsive" in it just comes back with thousands of posts on how to kill such tasks, rather than how to not have Windows 7 kill them for me

Creating A Task Scheduler Task To Move Files Over A Network?

Mar 31, 2011

i need to have a task run that will move the contents of a folder from one computer to another over my home LAN. Files get downloaded during the night on one computer and then need to be transfered to another. Usually I am doing this by hand, but then though maybe I could get the task scheduler to do it for me.I understand how to create a task, however I am having trouble with the action tab. I was thinking that I should start windows explorer (where is explorer located for win 7 x64 machines?) under the action tab, but once I do this I am not sure how to tell explorer to check the source folder, select all the files in it and then move it to the target folder.

Missing Task In Task Scheduler After Computer Name Change?

Apr 11, 2012

Setting up a new Windows 7 install and goofed up the computer name and didnt immediately notice. I had already setup a task to run upon logon when I noticed that the PC's name was all jacked. So I changed the pc's name and rebooted. After reboot the task disappeared from the task scheduler list but still runs. Is there anyway to remove this ghost task when it is no longer visible in the task scheduler?I thought about changing the name back temporarily to see if the task would show up but I have no idea what that name was, so that is not an option.

Windows 7 64bits Task Scheduler, The Selected Task "{0}" No Longer Exists

Oct 3, 2012

So I don't know when this: "the selected task "{0}" no longer exists. to see the current task, click refresh" error started but I don't know how to repair this.
When I start task scheduler I first get this error and than no matter what folder I click the error pops up again. After this 2nd error it doesn't pop up anymore but all the folders show up empty.

Tried fixes:

Emptying all task folders in C:WindowsSystem32Tasks Download Fix My Task Scheduler 1.0 Free - Repair all Task Scheduler errors - Softpedia
/sfc scannow
Programs believed to cause this issue:
CCleaner
Defraggler

Sadly I have both

it causes some programs to not boot correctly. Like MSIafterburner gives an error, so I have to go to the config settings of MSIafterburner because it tries to boot using the taskscheduler really weird I know :/

Windows 7 Task Scheduler (As Alarm)?

Mar 21, 2010

I am running Windows 7 (Premium Home), on a dell Inspirion 15.attempted to create a scheduled task (and i am used to doing this in Windows XP) and I can not seem to make it work for me.I created a task; and simply put the file (.mp3) in the "Program/Script" box. It plays the file fine, but it is doing so as a "ghost task" as i've come to call it.
The File is played, but WMP is not opened, and a task is not created in the Task Manager. Sadly, it is also looping and i am muting it under the SoundMixer as "unavailable name".

Attempted to fix this by starts Wmp.exe, and using an argument ("C://&&&&/&.Mp3") to give some direction. But no cigar (Event Id 203 &103 [failure to start, failure to run])
I then just simply copied the argument and placed it into the "Start In" box. (with a bit of prayer to get rid of the looping that i must REBOOT to get rid of)So i have used the MP3 without WMP, And attempted to run it THROUGH WMP and have had no luck.

However, I would like the option to have a "1 minute warning" that system is shutting down so that I can cancel it if I am currently using it. How would i go about this? For example: I have it scheduled at 10pm to turn off. However, I am still on the computer at 9:59. I would like some dialogue to come up and give me the option to cancel and I will just shutdown the computer when I'm done.

Task Scheduler On Windows 7 - Won't Login Automatically

Jul 6, 2010

I have a little problem with the Task scheduler on Windows 7. I would like to use it to start a program, while my PC is at hibernation through the nighttime, so it can run while I am not at the PC. The problem is, that when i plan the Task in the Scheduler, my PC will start at the time I choose and wake up from the hibernation, but it all get stuck at the User logon screen.

I tried filling up both possibilities in the Security tab (Run only when user is logged on and Run whetever user is logged on or not), then it asks for my password and I fill it in. But it gets still stuck at the User logon screen after waking up the PC and wants the password to type in. I have only one account set up as the administrator with password, nothing else. Why won't it just work

"Task DispatchRecoveryTasks: The task image is corrupt or has been tampered with."

I haven't been able to determine what this task does.

Task Scheduler & Windows Media Player Quit Working Together?

Oct 20, 2011

I used to run a nature sound file in Media Player, to help me sleep, with Task Scheduler set to wake me up with an online radio program. First task stops, "wakeup" task starts immediately after; worked great for almost a year.Suddenly, doesn't work. Running task doesn't stop, and either wakeup task never starts, or, if it does, it runs as some sort of "ghost" instance: no window showing in the Taskbar, nothing showing in Task Manager (neither as application or as process). I have to restart the whole computer to get it to stop!Checked all the settings in Task Scheduler, tried drawing up new tasks; no change.Too bad I bought this PC with Windows 7 preinstalled--no disks to rebuild from.

No Tasks Showing In Task Status?

Oct 2, 2011

In Windows 7 64 Ultimate, the Task Status box in Task Scheduler is empty, even if I set it to "Last 7 days" and even though Tasks have run (I can look at individual Tasks and they show "Last Run" time as today.

I've also been having a problem where an instance of svchost.exe was using 25% of my CPU (Athlon II X4 630) and 170MB RAM. I tracked this down to the Schedule service although I haven't worked out what triggers it to happen yet. I have deleted some unneeded Tasks though, so perhaps that's fixed that problem.

Waking Up Machine With Task Scheduler

Nov 21, 2010

In Task Scheduler, I have a task designed to wake the machine, kill any existing instances of wmplayer.exe, and then open a .m3u file, starting a radio stream. This runs every weekday, at 6am.

This works successfully, except Windows Media Player (used to play the m3u file) is visible only in the Processes list in task manager, not as an actual open application. This wasn't really an issue, but now I want to open a jpg image as part of this task, and this is also invisible. I have made sure that the "hidden" box is unchecked in the task properties.

Also, my monitors do not wake up when the machine does, unless I manually move the mouse, or use the keyboard. I would like this to be automatic.

Task Scheduler Ends Unexpectedly

Sep 13, 2012

I have set up Task Scheduler to execute batch programs using a programming language known as SAS. Normally things work properly, the task ends as expected, and a log file is created. Today, the task ended unexpectedly (actually, I know why, I set the task to end after 30 minutes, because the task shouldn't take more than about 2 minutes). The problem is that the log file that is being written by this program is now locked, and I cannot delete it or move it edit it. Other files used in this task have the same problem. If I try to delete it, I get the Windows message that says: "The action can't be completed because the file is open in SAS" (even though SAS is no longer open because the task has ended). This is completely repeatable, this has happened several times now, with identical results.

Task Scheduler Recognizes Only First Trigger?

Dec 6, 2009

the problem is if I create a new task for the task scheduler which is having multiple triggers, only the first entered trigger is recogized and used. E.g., I have two weekly triggers to execute a program. The first selects Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, and Fri to run the program. The second selects the weekend to run the program, i.e. Sat, Sun. --> Now, the program starts only on Mon to Fri. The Sat/Sun trigger is neglected and the program doesn't start on the weekend. If I delete the first Mon-Fri trigger, suddenly the weekend trigger is recognized. If I then add the Mon-Fri trigger again (now as second trigger), it remains unoticed, i.e., only the weekend trigger remains used.In all cases I made sure the triggers were set "active".
