Windows Experience Freezes @ "tuning Windows Media Decoding"
Aug 19, 2011
Ever since I installed catalyst pro control center, I can never run the WIE all the way through. Before I installed it, it would run just fine. Here are my laptop config
Windows 7 64 Bit
2x ddr2 8 gb ram
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
Intel Mobile Core Duo T9550 @ 2.66GHz
I haven't been able to tune in one particular OTA station using Windows Media Center. I am, however, able to tune it in just fine using Aver MediaCenter (the freebee application that came with my tuner) on the same PC. It's a local CBS station, channel 7.1. A multitude of other digital over-the-air stations (ABC, NBC, Fox, PBS, etc) come in just fine in both Windows Media Center and Aver MediaCenter. It's just that CBS station that won't play back in Windows Media Center.
New to Win7 came here from XP 32bit and am trying to get a better understanding of WEI. This was a good build and I have no stability issues. I eliminated aero theme and use windows 7 basic instead. What starts me down this road is the seemingly low AERO score (4.5). I'm admittedly not intouch with this stuff.
So I'm having this random problem. My windows media is freezing to play anything so when I close it under task or shut the computer down it takes a long time for the computer to turn off
I've looked everywhere for someone that's had the same issue as me but haven't found anyone. I have been using windows media player happily on my computer for well over a year now. One day I added a video to my play list (as I had many times before) and it froze. Since then every time I open windows media player everything works smoothly and perfectly until I play a file. At that stage windows explorer freezes and if I leave it long enough it closes media player and resets explorer and runs very slowly until I restart my computer. How can I make it work again?
I just bought my wife a new laptop. She doesn't do any heavy computing. It will be mostly used for Email, Web Surfing and watching videos. The initial set up went fine and all worked as advertised. The problem started when I went to install the driver for her external speakers. She has a Logitech Z-Cinema 3 speaker system with remote. I went to the Logitech website and located the Windows 7 64 bit driver and downloaded it. Installation seemed to complete succesfully, but now, any time I try to open up Windows Media Center, the screen just goes black and I have to kill the program with Task Manager. I uninstalled the driver and WMC workes fine. The speakers are on the Windows Hardware Compatability list.
Latop specs: Brand : Asus Model: X54C-BBK5 O/S: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Technical details: 2nd Gen Intel® Coreā¢ i3 processor; 15.6" display; 4GB memory; 320GB hard drive
I am curious if there are any recommended system tuning software for 64 bits windows 7? I come across Advanced System Optimizer 3 and PCKeeper. I have not tried either of them but I have heard a few bad reviews for ASO.
I have just sold my Laptop and have reinstalled Windows 7 back on the machine for the new owner. I was just wondering if there was a way of resetting the machine back to the Out Of The Box Experience for the new owner. Im wanting to do all the updates and software installation now and then "reset" it so the new owner can open it from fresh etc. Ive had a good Google but couldn't find anything.
I recently installed a new hyper 212 cooler. After doing so I downloaded the Intel Burn Tool and ran it a few time to make sure my temps were fine. Now I can't run the WEI program?
when i click the "rate this computer" button to rate my windows 7 pc it says that "can't complete the requested assessment.the system does not have the necessary multi media support to run the requested assessment"
i have problem here..that my computer can't rate the windows experience index..why??its say i have problem with hardware..i use windows vista before and dosent have any problem with windows experience index...when i start to use windows 7 on build 7068 and now i use the build 7600 X64(64-Bit) its can't rate the windows experience.
My Windows experience index is 5.5, can I increase it?My Computer is an Intel DH67BL_ Motherboard Intel i7 2600 3.4GHz CPU 16 GB of memory, 500 GB Seagate SATA hard drive, running Windows 7 Pro 64bit.
I have an Asus G73SW Republic of Gamers laptop. Systems specs are an i7 2630QM 2.0ghz cpu, 16GB of ram, 1TB and 500GB, Nvidia GeForce 460m 1.5g of mem. My question is looking at other people that have the same machine are rating at around 7 on the processor part of the WEI, but I am rating a 4.7!!!!! I have also seen many machines at work that have far lower processing power that rate a higher score than I do.
I just did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium on my laptop a few days ago, and am trying to get the Windows Experience Index generated. However, I get a message saying that it couldn't be completed due to an error. Here is the info from the winsat.log file: Code:
My Windows Experience index is not working. I click on "rate this computer", and nothing happens. My old scores are gone, but I haven't tried using it in probably 4 months. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit SP1 OS Version 6.1.7601.
I have core2duo T6600 2.20ghz cpu, 4 gb(2.75gb usable) ram installed on my system, 500 gb hdd, and 512 mb dedicated nvidia graphics memory. Still my windows experience index is 3.4 only. Is there any way to increase it. Due to low WEI I face problems in playing some games.
my computer keeps freezing. here is a video i recorded to show how it happens. i dunno how to explain what is actually happening. it happens often but depending on its mood. sometime its frequent sometimes its not.[url]computer crash - Internet the problem occurs when playing any type of media file whether its while playing video, music, or watching Internet or any other streaming.
I have started using the RC after having used the offiial beta for only a week (it kept giving me BSODs and I was too lazy to figure out why).
With this build I have noticed one thing, and as I have looked through this forum for a while to see if anyone else had it, and didn't find anything, I will assume it is not a 'feature'. While playing xvid media (television shows from the US) with windows media player, I notice at random times that the image freezes (the sound continues). After a while (between 10 to 30 seconds) the image unfreezes and starts playing catchup. This can happen while I'm doing something else, but also when I'm not doing a thing, and only WMP is opened. I first thought it might be codec issue, so I installed a Windows 7 codec pack (though I usually hate these things). Unfortunately it hasn't solved my problem.
I've also noticed that it takes explorer about 20 to 50 seconds to start up. I don't know if that's strange, but it seems like a long time to me. Even if it's already open on a different folder, and I open another instance, it takes this long. Only if I browse within the already opened window does it not seem to lag.
The only thing I can think of is that it might have something to do with my virus scanner? I have ACG installed. I also have daemon tools running, even though it says that there might be compatibility issues.
I have a problem (though I think it is minor because my system recovers quite well from it after restarting). Basically, I overclocked my CPU to 4.19 gHz and everything is running smoothly (also got a Radeon 7770 HD graphics card) so I decided to redo my WEI score and close to the end of the CPU test the computer crashed and went to the blue screen of death before restarting again. Everything seems fine with my computer but I'm not sure what the problem might be. [code]
I have a computer I built myself a few years ago. I recently installed a new graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE).Everything works perfectly, but everything looks a little bit fuzzy. It's not a big deal, but I would like it fixed. I have tried ClearType, and unchecking "Smoothe edges of screen fonts".I also tried updating the driver, but nothing works. An interesting detail is that during the installation of the driver, everything clears up, but then it reverts.
So I keep getting this error when trying to run WEI so that I can get the previews for the taskbar.
-- Error message -- The Windows Experience Index for your system could not be computed. Could not measure storage performance. Error: Failed to properly assess the disk. The data is invalid. -- End error message --
i own dell vostro 1400, c2d 1.6ghz, 4 gb ddr2 ram (2x2gb), windows 7 ultimate 32 bits.
i was very happy with the performance but suddenly it has become extremely slow to use. it becomes quite unresponsive even for simple tasks like watching Internet in browser. i check windows experience index and found out that processor and memory subscores are very low.
I have sony Vaio VPCEC290X before Windows Experience Index was 5.1 but now it reduced to 3.5 i have update to latest bios a i have check power settings cleaned laptop dust also but the score is still 3.5 what might be the problem i have contact sony care also they checked and told nothing problem with your hardware
I'm curious to see what kind of numbers people have gotten for the primary hard disk data transfer rate. Under Vista I scored 5.9 on all tests as it was as high as the numbers would go.
After a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate, I was quite surprised to find my primary hard disk score remained at a 5.9. My boot drive is made up of 2 10,000RPM cheetah SATA drives in a RAID stripe (RAID0). I'm wondering if this test is still maxed out at 5.9. If you got higher than 5.9, what kind of drive are you using? I'm sure SSD's score higher.
Several weeks back I started getting an error every time I ran the WEI in one of my computers. It would stop near the end of its run with the following error:The Windows Experience Index for Your System Could Not be Computed Could not measure storage performance.Error: Failed to properly asses the disk. The parameter is incorrect.(Parameter ??? There's nothing I like better than a nice cryptic explanation)And get this... Today I ran the WEI on my 2nd computer and now it's producing this same error. And yet, both computer's HDDs check out fine, There are no flags in Device Manager, and no problems elsewhere.I haven't done anything pertaining to the HDD in either machine. If I remember correctly, I noticed the problem after swapping the graphics cards between machines, although I can't understand why that would affect the HDD error in WEI. In both instances I did a clean re-install of the latest drivers. Both systems are kept clean of garbage and both are running Win7x64.
what the difference is between the graphics rating and gaming graphics rating in the Windows Experience Index? Which is more important? Because my graphics has the lowest subscore of 5.8 and my gaming graphics has a subscore of 6.7.
