Windows 7 Professional Live Update?
May 22, 2012
I have a HP G62 laptop computer running Windows 7 Professional. Recently when I try to run windows Update the notice comes up in red & when I click for checking updates I get the notice "Windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer". Rebooting the computer does not work. I don't think this is a virus since no other problems are occuring & all programs seem to run ok.

I've recently built a new pc. - i7 3930 Sandy Bridge, P9X79 PRO motherboard, 32Gb RAM, 128Gb SSD. I installed Windows OEM and activated and I also updated the BIOS; and everything was fine until I decided to reinstall Windows because I had some troubles with some drivers and I thought a clean copy will fix that.
Here it comes the problem. I booted from the original DVD, the Windows files have been copied and expanded and then the system restarted in order to continue the process. The system restarted but instead of continuing the installation process I get an error message saying the following: "Windos will not start because kernel file is missing". It also tells me that some files in "system 32" are corrupt. At this point there is nothing I can do. I tried again a few times then I stopped.
I know that the OEM can be installed only on one motherboard, but could a BIOS updated be considered a hardware change? I read other posts and everybody was saying that even if you change the motherboard the user will still be able to install the system but he will be required to activate the copy via telephone. Well, I did not even get to the point to reinstall the system. Has anyone experienced a similar problem with a OEM version of Windows 7?

I recently got a prompt for a Windows Live Mail 2011 update. So, I allowed it. Upon rebooting it required that I log onto the Messenger feature, which I never use and don't care to. So I canceled the Messenger prompt and then my entire Mail system failed. I then used the Windows 7 Restore function to fall back to prior system files and now all is Ok.

Did a Windows Live Essentials update, after which, my email contacts were all gone. I did system restore, exported the old addys to a folder. After closing Windows Live Mail, I could not reopen without re-doing the update install. So, I did. When I went to the CONTACTS tab (bottom left) it never really opens. It clears the emails or calendar, from the main window but leaves the same 'ribbon' (or task bar or whatever at the top). It doesn't show the options that should be there for 'contacts' (no import/export/etc). If it matters, I do not sign in to Windows Live Mail. When I open it, there's always a a popup that says I've tried to sign-in too many times with the wrong info.

After installing what appears to be a Windows Live update, now, each time I start Windows Live Mail, the pop-up logo appears for it, but, the window for the inbox doesn't. Then, I have to click to bring the window forward into view, which 2 out of 3 times it will appear as a smaller than usual window.Since it is being launched from a button on my taskbar and not from a shortcut it's not likely being started minimized. I did have a startup shortcut that ran it minimized before the update took precedence of it.

I admin that I installed Windows Live Essentials a few days back. I didn't like it (sidebar: it made dealing with my many Outlook accounts a pain, but that's another discussion). So, I removed it.
Now, I just checked for updates and Windows Live Essentials was in my list to install. I installed everything except Windows Live Essentials. How do I remove it from the list?
I have tried rebooting since my successful update of the patches I wanted.
I looked in the SoftwareDistribution folder, thinking maybe there was a single file that I could remove, but there's my entire history of updates there, which I don't want to mess with. I certainly don't want some other user on the machine to OK the install, so I would like to hide it.

I keep trying to update Windows Live Essential but it tells me to turn on my firewall and it is on. I tried to uninstall and reinstall and it did but didn't load Windows Live Mail. That is the client I use. I loaded Thunderbird and it couldn't find my contacts. So....I restored to 2 days earlier and I am back to square one. What do I do next.

I applied a Windows Update the other day without realizing that I was doing a major update from Windows Live Mail to WLM 2011. The installation progress window stopped at about 50% complete and just stayed there. After doing some Googling about the update (KB2434419) I read that behind the progress window is another window which asks the user whether all Windows Live apps are to be installed and updated or just the ones that have already been installed. I had been using only Windows Live Mail, so I chose to update only that application to WLM 2011. The installation appeared to run successfully, and I have been using WLM 2011 for two days. It works fine, although I've had to get familiar with numerous changes to its appearance and user interface.
The Windows Update icon is still at the right end of my taskbar, however, and when I click on it, the progress window is still showing "Installing update 1 of 1" about 50% complete as if it does not realize that the installation of WLM 2011 finished two days ago! The only option in that window is a "Stop installation" button. I am afraid to click that button in case it initiates a rollback of the WLM 2011 installation. Why does Windows Update think that the installation isn't complete? How do I terminate the session of Windows Update and not disturb the WLM 2011 installation that completed two days ago? Do I dare kill the Windows Update process that is running?

If I install the update, I lose my complete e-mail address/contact list. If I don't install the update I can't open my Live Mail at all. I miss Outlook Express SO much! I'm a senior and I don't need Live Essentials bells and whistles.

I have checked my DELL Latitude 6500 laptop running WinXP Pro using the Windows 7 upgrade advisor tool, and everythihng is a go. I also know that I need to do a good backup of my critical files and the pictures I want to keep.I have had many people tell me that before I make such a change in operating systems, do a backup first, because Windows 7 requires a clean startup, because there is no upgrade from XP to Win7.Is there an easy way to keep these work related files, and .jpg pictures using a simpler backup process than the software backup program called Acronis?I have also read that there is a program that will run at the same time as Windows 7, like a separate operating system called XP Mode. As I understand it, XP mode runs in a separate window on the Windows 7 desktop, much like a program, except it's a fully functional version of Windows XP. In Windows XP Mode, I think you can also access your computer's CD/DVD drive, install programs, save files, and perform other tasks as if you were using a computer running Windows XP.I am not sure Acronis can be installed on this DELL Out-of-Warranty Win XP laptop, if I am currently using it for my desktop with Win 7 Ultimate. Once the critical files and .jpg photos are saved on an external hard drive, can I bring them back onto the laptop on the same harddrive with the new operating system Win 7 files, or do I need to partition the laptop harddrive, or does it matter if I use them with Win XP Mode?

I tried to do a Repair Install following this tutorial, but the Compatibility Report says:"Windows 7 Professional cannot be upgraded to Windows 7 Professional. You can choose to install a new copy of Windows 7 Professional instead, but this is different from an upgrade, and does not keep your files, settings, and programs. You'll need to reinstall any programs using the original installation discs or files. To save your files before installing Windows, back them up to an external location such as a CD, DVD, or external hard drive. To install a new copy of Windows 7 Professional, click the Back button in the upper left-hand corner, and select "Custom (advanced)"." I have Win 7 SP1, but only a Win 7 disc without SP1.

I'm out of ideas. I've been running Win 7 on this machine for more than a year without issues in updating etc. Now it will not search or update/install critical items. I'm running Symantec (even tried turning the firewall off without any success). I get an error code 80072F7C. When I run hijackthis, I get an error message that my system denied write access to the Hosts file. I proceed with the scan but am unable to produce a log file. I've included a screenshot from the windows update error as well as the error I get when trying to run hijack this.

The update is called:
nvidia - Graphics adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M.
After installing it, whenever my laptop tries to use the Nvidia card, I get a blue screen and the system restarts. I looked in installed updates to uninstall it, and it is not there. I did a system restore to four days before I installed it, and I still get the same effect. Lastly, I installed some older nvidia drivers that used to work using the clean install option, and I still have this problem.

A while back, after successfully downloading and installing some updates in the Windows Update, it prompted me to restart the computer to finish the update installation process. However, I continued to use the computer for quite some time before restarting it, and then when it tried to configure the updates on the start-up screen, it showed that it was not successful in doing so. In the past, I noticed that this would typically happen when I did not restart the computer immediately (or within a short time) after the updates finished and I got the prompt to restart. I would have to go to Windows Update and do it over again, and then upon immediate restart, it would always work properly. But this time, it did not, and I keep getting the 8000FFFF error message instead.
Also, now, every time I start the computer, it shows that it's "Preparing to configure Windows... Do not shut off computer" (presumably the updates that never got completely and correctly configured) in the start-up screen... gets to 35%..fails... shuts down (screen goes black)... restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, shuts down and restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, and finally it apparently gives up and says "reverting changes" and finally goes to the desktop.I've looked at the answers in several threads at the answers.microsoft.com forum that were started by people with similar problems, and also tried several of the Microsoft "FixIt" files on the Microsoft site, but none of them worked. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.

My windows update does not like to load! It takes a very long time and sometimes causes explorer to crash! When I checked, I had 92 updates to install. When I click download and install, it would freeze and stay there for a long time. I tried to use the Fix it application, however that gets stuck on "Checking Online for Updates" as well! What should I do? I also tried to update in safe mode, but it wouldn't let me.
