I had a Vista home premium. I updated it to windows 7 premium. It is 32 bit. A lot of my updates have failed. I get code 800 b0100. I have looked it up on the net. I was wondering if I should put my discs in for the windows upgrade and run it thru again over the top of what I have... I also have win 7 64 bit on my network and it was original/ I have no problems with it. Barb aztzu has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.

I've tried numerous times to try and update Windows Updates (trying to update on a new computer: Lenovo Thinkpad T530) but every time I shut it off, it says it's updating and it looks like it's doing fine but when I turn it says it's configuring Windows updates and it always gets stuck at the 15% mark and then says Windows updates failed, reverting changes. The error is: Error code 80071A9 I've tried Microsofts Fixits and the readiness update and all that stuff but it doesn't help at all. It's really bugging me now because this is the second or third time that my computer went to a black screen saying that it needs to check the disk (I can't remember the exact wording right now). It says the disk is fine every time but it still worries me to have this for the second/third time.

Since the beginning of August my Win 7 system installs updates at shutdown and then at the beginning of the next bootup, it tries to configure the updates and fails. I'm pretty sure it's the same updates. How can I find out what updates these are and stop this from happening? My Win 7 is 32 bit. jbschwartz--2008 has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.

I have gone at least 5 months since I last installed windows updates. I had partially disabled the automatic updates (made it so that it downloads automatically but I choose whether to install them) and have recently decided to install the 101 or so updates that had been downloaded automatically.
About 74 of those updates, but I was able to troubleshoot windows update and so was able to successfully install 30 of those important updates.
The problem now is that I have 44 updates that are downloaded and require a shutdown or restart to be installed. However every time I shutdown or restart my computer I have to wait 5-10 mins for windows to configure the updates and in the end they fail and the changes are reverted.
I've tried troubleshooting again but it did not work. I wonder if these updates are older versions of newer ones I have installed and are therefore failing to install.

why the Windows updates are all failing. The problem started around mid October last Fall. The updates are set for automatic. I have also tried doing manual updates and no luck.On shut down each night the computer downloads the updates successfully, then the computer prepares to shut down and it says "configuring updates" and shows a percentage of completion. Every single time, it gets to 16% then says "installation failed - reverting changes". It then shuts down and reboots and everything seems ok, until the next time I shut down the computer and it tries to install more updates. Rinse, lather, repeat. They were working fine until last October. Since then the odd one shows "successful", but 99% "fail".

I'm running Windows XP 7 on a HP EliteBook 8440p laptopI installed three updates, including the latest Windows 7 Service Pack and now my computer will not start up again. The Startup Repair tool is detecting no errors. The system restore tool warns me that my diagnostic power is low and a restore can not be reversed. I ran a chk dsk and no errors were found and fixed there either.

for a few days (maybe a week) now I have had trouble with my Canon MX870 Printer/Fax. I have been using it successfully for the past 16 months now, via USB connection, installed on both my Windows 7 laptop and my Windows XP PC (I just unplug it and plug it in to whichever computer I need to print from). For some reason, it has decided not to recognize the drivers on my laptop.I have tried to uninstall and reinstall (no go).I also deleted every instance of MX870 from the registry that it would allow me to (some it wouldn't for some reason no access yes I am Administrator).Reinstall again still no go.The Windows 7 Updates were failing to update the Fax component which I thought was the problem, then all of a sudden it was successful still no printer. Now, it is unsuccessful again.I don't use the Fax component. The reinstall from the CD is successful, but when I plug in the printer, it fails."Device driver software was not successfully installed. Please consult with your device manufacturer for assistance getting this device installed. [code] Also, each time I unplug then plugin the USB cable, it attempts to reinstall the device drivers, the printer successful, the fax failing. It never did this before when I was happily printing away from both computers.
I have no problem printing from the XP machine when it's plugged in there all is good there.I have been to the Canon website and downloaded the latest drivers, which installed perfectly, but again when I plug in the printer, it fails to install the fax driver and the printer won't work..I have also tried all of the various USB ports and ruled that out.I've also run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter also without success. Also, I don't know if this is relevant or not, but I can't even print to PDF. My CutePDF program is also not working. I thought this may have been a workaround until I got the printer working again, but no luck.CutePDF will go thought its processes (it's now ticked as default as my Canon is now longer even listed), up till the point where you need to name the file you're creating (that box doesn't appear) all you get to do is print, choose CutePDF, then it disappears no file or if there is, I have no idea where it's gone or what it's called can't find a trace of it.I have not downloaded or installed any other programs (except Windows Updates) in some time that could have caused this. I am at a loss. This is a business computer and printer and is causing much angst.I am running Windows7 (64bit) on an Acer Aspire Laptop (only 16 months old) Firefox 13.0.1.Also running Microsoft Fixit for Printers doesn't even detect the printer and tells me to install one it already is As does the Troubleshooter Does not detect the printer.

while installing 7 H.P. it gets to completing installation then freezes up after computer reboots a warning message appears stating windows 7 has failed to install and resume after reboot, and then the same warning message appears.
I tried the roll back installation option and a message flashes on and off to quickly to read.

I'm having some major and frustrating problems with my Windows 7 Device, where explorer constantly crashes or freezes, videos arent being played smoothly but instead they are jumpy and freeze for a great deal of time before playing another few seconds. Not only that but for over a month it has been performing updates when I shut down the computer that simply do not progress, there have been times when I have left my laptop on for over 12 hours and it hasnt budged from the first update. I have ran sfc/scannow but that doesnt get passed 22%, my AVG and Windows Defender are constantly being turned off without my doing?

I have a windows 7 vista 64bit (or 62, not sure) and for a while now I have been have the same problem... first of all, windows updates keep on failing! practically all of them. After the update, it requires me to restart the computer because some of the updates can not be completed while the system is running. As it reboots, it goes to screen where the resolution is really zoomed in, and it says the computer did not start up properly (start up repair).
This happens every time it makes me restart or when I shut it down. (So I just leave it on sleep, but that never works cuz there's an automated windows update restart timer). Also heard that I needed an anti virus program so I got one. VIPRE - The first attempt. Windows update. Restarts. Start up repair. Then VIPRE is completely gone from my computer. (Not just vipre but some other programs as well). Microsoft security essentials, the second attempt. Same thing happens. its completely gone. As if I never had it.

I'm unable to do any windows updates due to error code 800B0100. I think a recent virus I had may have tampered with update files. I tried running the System Update Readiness Tool as suggested in Help and Support however the update installation on that failed too. Due to other problems I've been having recently I'm considering re-installing my OS at this point.

I successfully bought the upgrade version of Windows 7 Home Premium N, downloaded and extracted it and now I want to install it.
When I choose UPDATE in the intallation dialog it tells me that I cannot upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium ???
Every website from Windows and other people tells me that it IS possible and even the Windows 7 Update Advisor told me that I should not encounter any problems upgrading.
Has anyone of you yet encountered upgrading problems of compatible Vista/7 versions?
Or any other idea what I can do to solve the problem?!
I know that I can make a clean intall of 7, but this would be a pain..

Yesterday I was messing around on my brand-new laptop, and I was stupid enough to try a keygen to get Ultimate (I had HP). Surprising. It worked but the copy wasn't genuine obviously. So then I rebooted, pressed F8 at boot. An ran Toshibas recovery to try to get the computer to its out of box state. I got stuck at initializomg (either that or I was impaptient) so I turned off the laptop. Then when I truer to boot I got bootmgr is missing. I have an old vista Hp disk so I installed that for the time being. So my question is, how do I get it back to the original state? I do t have any important data or anything.

I recently ugrade from Widows 7 Ultimate editin from Windows Vista Ultimate edition recently, but I began having update issues with it almost immediately.
I'm seeing the following (Office 2007) updates continually fail, each time I use the update service. The updates successfully download, but fail to install. I have managed to manually install some of them, but the few I have listed below, I am simply unable to install successfully. The following is a list of the updates, which appear to be hung, with no resolution in sight.
Code 646:
(KB972363)
(KB973709)
(KB952581)
(KB974234)
(KB969907)
Can anyone help with this issue? I've tried everything and "Microsoft has no support for Windows 7 issues at this time." I'm stuck with security gaps here.

after successfully installing windows 7 (my first windows install since XP, after which I moved to Ubuntu) and doing the initial set-up etc., installing my own anti virus software and MS Office etc, I thought it was time to let it update itself.
however, every time I tell it to update then shut down it fails. I tried to troubleshoot it using the MS help box which was very little actual help, and then tried to initiate the update manually, however, when it comes to installing some windows 7 security and system updates and some IE updates, installation fails, resulting in error code 800736B3, whatever that means. The updates it fails on are:
security update for INternet explorer 8 for windows 7 (KB974455)
security update for windows 7 (KB974571)
security update for windows 7 (KB975467)
update for internet explorer 8 compatability view list for windows 7 (KB975364)
update for internet explorer 8 for windows 7 (KB976749)
update for windows 7 (KB974431) I'm currently running avast! (v4.8 home edition) following Windows 7 informing me that it would not allow AVG to run (it was from an 'untrusted source' apparently, despite having been working a few days previously), but thats another problem entirely
Any help than can be offered will be much obliged! All I've been able to turn up from googling is a command that un-registers windows, which then for some reason allows the updates to occur, following which I can use my original activation code (given to me by digital river with the student upgrade deal) to re-activate windows, although I am reluctant to try this!

Friends "out of the blue" my rock-solid-for-three-years windows 7 Ultimate x64 rig seems to have a permissions issue [I'm guessing]. I went to uninstall a program, and it failed. tried to install a program and it failed. Did windows updates, selected about 10 or so, most installed ok, but three failed. I created a new administrator-level account [the system has only had one in its history, the main/only I have ever used], tried to logon for the first time, and it failed. This system is on a LAN [wifi bridged AP] and is a Homegroup owner, but it is not on a Domain.

The original OS was Windows XP 32bit SP3. I upgraded this system to Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit SP2 with no issues.
I then went to upgrade the system to Windows 7 Premium. I chose the "Upgrade" install and not the "Clean" install. I've checked the updater to confirm that all my system information was adequate. I uninstalled the ATI Catalyst Controller, iTunes, etc. that it wanted me to. Oddly enough, the ATI Catalyst Controller was the most recent driver that supports Windows 7.
I checked online to see if the hardware was all supported by Windows 7. The Sapphire Vapor-X video card was not compatible or compatible... it simply wasn't on the list of either. The X-Fi Extreme Gamer said it was NOT compatible... yet, I had a driver for Windows 7 and the Windows 7 Application checker said that my sound card was ready for Windows 7... thus a discrepency.
I went on with the installation. I get to the last step where it resets the computer at 62% and I get a BSOD for about 1/3 of a second. It goes by too quickly for me to capture it. It then restarts the computer instantly with the result of "Upgrade was not completed successfully. Restoring prior OS yadda yadda". I've gone through this about 5 times now trying different things.. keeping the Catalyst controller installed, uninstalling the video card, removing the sound card, etc. Nothing seems to work.
It was recommended to me that I do a clean install... however, I have read that many others have done a clean install and theirs STILL doesn't get past the 62%.
Is it my hardware? Do I need to buy MORE hardware now that 7 is out that is on the compatible list?

I have sort of a special case here. I purchased my HP laptop in Thailand, and much to my chagrin it came installed with Windows 7 Home Basic. In addition, the HP store which sold me the laptop installed 4gb of RAM neglecting to tell me that the 32bit version of 7 only supported up to 3. At any rate, I am hoping to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 Bit edition. But while there is a glut of information online about how to upgrade from Starter, there is little to nothing about Home Basic. Do I have to buy a full copy of 7 Home Premium 64 Bit? Can I buy an Anytime Upgrade that is meant for Starter and apply it to my computer?

Had Windows 7 home premium for around 2 months on a brand new desktop. Never had a single problem with it untill today. Turned it on as normal, got to the log in screen where i click on the required user. As the pc is only used by me I only have 1 user availiable. I click on it like normal but this time i get a message saying 'The user profile service service failed the logon' 'user profile cannot be loaded'. It then refreshes the page and returns me back to the logon page and if i press enter the same thing just keeps repeating itself. Other option on this page are the shutdown/sleep/restart option and a little box in the bottom left corner called ease of access with various options, but none that seem relevant to the situation.
