I have a PC I purchased in September 2010. Its a reasonably high spec Intel i5 760 (overclocked) running Windows 7. It been working fine up until yesterday when I decided to reboot as there were one or to windows updates required. The PC did reboot but only after 40 minutes spending most of that time with 'Starting windows' logo. When it does eventually boot everything seems to work well apart from itunes which also takes 30 or 40 minutes to start.

I have a peculiar problem with my lappy. Once I start it the system runs for sometime (usually for 15mins to 1-2hours) and then it suddenly hangs for 15-20mins. When the system hangs, the mouse becomes a circle and nothing seems to be moving. This problem started after I installed Spybot S & D. Although I have uninstalled S & D, the problem still persists. Currently I see some of the folders in my C drive appear like Hidden Files.

Every morning about 30-45 minutes after boot the computer BSOD. Looking at the Nirsoft bluescreen review its caused most of the time by Threatfire which is a PCTools file the antivirus run on the machine.
Back in December prior to PCTools I had Microsoft AV on and AVG each seemed to cause the same problem.
I've run the windows 7 memory check but if I change it to run more than 2 times it freezes and never completes. Spybot, PCtools, Sophos, never found any significant threats
HW:
Macbook air late 2008
2gb ram
Intel core 2 duo
Windows 7 enterprise 32bit
My next step is to try turning off Threatfire, effectively shutting of the antivirus.

I recently built my first PC three days ago...
Specs:
i7 bloomfield 960 processor
4x4 vengeance ram
crosair hx850 PSU
evga x58 ftw3 mobo
hd 6870 radeon graphics xfx
When I first installed windows it started to work just fine but I soon noticed that it would randomly freeze every 15-30 minutes of use, but not on a particular program or anything. I assumed it was drivers so I installed the latest drivers for my GPU and MOBO and keyboard. It seemed fine again until it started crashing again. I ran a GPU burn test and a CPU burn test it passed both. (I tried runing memtest86+ but it froze at like 12%) Then I tried fixing the registry so I downloaded ccleaner and fixed the registry problems. Freezes continued. I finally decided to re install windows so I did and the problems still continued. I am at a loss of what to do and can't think of anything else.

when I boot up my computer it stays in a black screen for about 3 minutes then moves to the logo screen where it stays there for another 3-4 minutes then finally gets to my desktop.I have a hunch of what it has to do with but could be wrong.I ran diskeeper (defrager program) and it mentioned something about sound driversI just went along with it and just ran it (foolish now I know)Ever since it has finished and I went to turn on my laptop again this boot up lag hasoccurred.

On a Laptop with 4G RAM and Dual T7250 CPU install time for Clean install of Rc x-64 build 7100 took just over 15 Mins when booted up from a USB stick .
OK I have to install applications and find one or two drivers etc (you always have to do that anyway) but the "Base" install really didn't take long at all.
Maybe a USB should be an "Optional" install medium.
Was a great trick to run the "BOOTSECT" command from the "Install" DVD to get the bootsector on to the USB disk.
Now I've got a nice fast portable method of installing from a USB stick.
Now to see if it works on a Netbook with no internal DVD drive.
-- It does -- but beware there's no Prompt on the boot so if you re-boot during the setup it will start again from scartch so remove the USB stick after the first boot and insert it again quickly before the setup continues. I.E insert the USB stick again at the boot splash screen.

My friend has an HP Presario notebook which she is having trouble with and asked me to take a look at it.In short, its Win 7 x64 Home Premium with 2GB RAM and an Intel Celeron CPU (i forget which model of CPU).Unit boots fine, and logs on, but what struck me was it was very very slow. brought up task manager and checked the performance tab and the CPU was fluctuating between a relatively low level of 4% - 10% but sometimes did shoot up to 50% - to be honest, with it being a Celeron I kinda figured this could be "normal" as its not exactly a brilliant chip. - other opinions welcomed on that pointHowever, the Memory usage as up at 1.35GB and continued to rise to 1.89GB - the machine only has 2GB of RAM and it literally took about 10 minutes to do anything.
I did the usual, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware scan - found nothing - Removed the rubbish Norton and installed MS Security Essentials - scanned - found nothing.Removed any and all of the HP Cackware and anything else that looked odd. The finally I removed a lot of rubbish from the MSCONFIG.Rebooted the machine and checked Task Manager again - this time, instead of 88 processes running, I only had 63 running - but yet again, RAM usage was up at 1.35GB. The HDD is not full and has plenty of space. So I felt stumpedDid some reading online and set the value to 1 in the registry. After changing the ClearPageFileAtShutdown value, when I booted back into Windows, the RAM usage was down to 837MB and fluctuated upto abour 1.3GB thought I had sussed it. So one more time I ran MS Security essentials for one last scan - it again found no issue but immediateley after doing this, the RAM usage shot right back upto 1.89GB and above and the problem instantly returned.

im tryingto fix my crashing error with the code 0x0000003b. I recently built a PC little by little using an older PC. I would swap out parts on the old one as I received them. Looking back on it now I regret not just performing a one time swap. Everything is new except for dvd drive and hard drive and the windows that was on the hard drive. (I used sysprep.exe to prepare the windows install for the out of box experience then reactivated windows. I did this about 3 weeks ago. Every since I fired up I have been having regular crashes every 40-50 minutes after using the keyboard. I thought it was a driver so I went to the sites of every new product i bought and got new drivers and even went through the device manger and updated drivers for everything in their but still no luck. I also checked that everything hardware wise was connected and re-seated. I ran memtest with no errors for more than 7 passes. I got rid of Norton and replaced with Microsoft essentials. It was weird because I only got the actual blue screen twice and it was during gta IV, but spat out the same error code. normally the screen goes into lines and the audio skips then it restarts. It doesn't appear to happen in safe mode or when I use my xbox controller. I then thought it was something wrong with my mouse, keyboard which is a logitech mx3200 keyboard and a logitech mx600 mouse both wireless. I tried using a different keyboard and mouse but still same problems. I attached dump files and system health below. I hope one of you smarter-than-me gentlemen can see something I don't. The blue screen view program spits out the same error code: 0x0000003b and always highlights ntoskrnl.exe and another driver/program like: usbohci.exe, VirtDiskBus64.exe, blbdrvie.exe, and RTKVHD.exe and etc.

Recently I came home to find my pc on this black screen with a few things on it such as-"Windows failed to start, this could be due to a recent software or hardware change"-"a required boot device was inaccessible"-"error 0xc000000e"Now my pc consistently crashed after running fine for roughly 30-40mins. I researched this error but most people say they cant boot at all and repairing Windows solved it.Well I can boot, so finding a answer to my problem has been difficult. So far, I've tried repairing Windows and also re-installing Windows, just to make sure it isn't OS or driver related.

My computer, about 5-20 minutes after start up, slows down so much that I can hardly do anything for 5 minutes. I either A) wait it out till my computer goes back to running normally (takes 1-5 minutes) or hold my off button and restart (or actually shut down the normal way but it takes forever) but upon restarting the same thing happens again.I have no idea whats causing this. When its happening I check my CPU usage and its nothing unusual (0-30%). I have scanned with Malwarebytes (nothing), Microsoft Security Essentials (nothing), and Superantispyware (deleted a few adware cookies). Besides this slow down period, I see no other symptoms of malware. The only weird thing is for some reason I always get PC Issue in the bottom right hand corner that says Windows Defender/MSE is off, and asks me to turn one of them on, but I already have MSE running. I click the issue and tell it to turn on and update MSE, after which it stops bugging me but it comes back at least sometimes after I restart. The computer: a 2-3 year old dell laptop, been dropped a couple times but I've never had that cause problems before, windows 7.

Lately, its been happening when I've been playing Diablo 3, however it has happened when surfing the internet with Chrome. There is no indication of when it will happenAlways happens at random. The computer freezes completely and the sound goes on an infinite loop. Eventually it magically comes back as if nothing happened at all. No error messages popping up from my system tray(for example, I don't see a "Nvidia Driver has recovered from an error")I don't have any crash dumps/error logs to share at this moment, as I am posting from work. So this thread is a bit of a place holder for later so I can update it with relevant information if you need it[CODE]

I've got my new build all setup and tried to install Windows 7 Professional 64bit. (System specs posted at bottom)
First attempt:My computer allowed me to get to drive selection and partition formatting without a selection and then shut off and proceeded to restart itself.
Second Attempt:Chose my drive, un-formatted, and got to the second step of OS installation (forgot the name i know its right after 'Copying Windows Files') and then proceeded to shut off and self restart.
Third attempt:Same as first attempt.
I've done more attempts but they have all ended just like my first and second attempt. I've tried taking out a few sticks of memory to check for bad memory (all tested working), installing on different drives to check for a bad drive (both tested working), updated the BIOS, lowering speed on memory, formatting both drives, and stripped my motherboard to where only the necessities were present in order to run the machine. The results have all been the same, looping random crashes and self restarts during the OS installation. Have even tried installing Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Same results.
System Specs:
Motherboard - ASRock P67 Fatal1ty Professional Series
CPU - Intel i7-2600k 3.4ghz (liquid cooled, sits at 32 C)
Memory - G.Skill Ripjaw X DDR3 1866 (4x4gb)
Video Card - Sapphire Radeon 6970 2gb
SSD - OCZ Vertex3 120gb (OS installation drive)
HDD - Western Digital Caviar Green 1.5TB 6.0gb/s 7200 RPM

I have tried all the "fixes" regarding the user account and sharing part, none have worked, but somehow delayed the speed of the messages. Nothing has really changed lately, other than formatting a partition (but the messages appeared before this) Any suggestions? Also, it pops up on every program I use, my games, my browser, msn, etc. Wont let me click back on the program till I hit cancel

Computer is currently suffering from persistent freezing and bluescreens. It seems to happen almost randomly, and usually very soon after startup and loading of Windows. System restore has not helped.'fraid that's all the info I can give right now. Any recommendations? If anyone wants me to run hijackthis or dxdiag and post results I'd be more than happy to (assuming I can get that far before it freezes!). Safe mode does work, and the problem does not occur while in safe mode.

It seems that seven freezing occupies a substantial part of this forum but I cant find anything to help me solve my problem. My wife's laptop started freezing a few weeks ago(keyboard gets red card and leaves the field and mouse goes on strike too). Now uinlike most of the freeze problems on this forum, I still occasionally have programs running in the background(I noticed this while downloading latest drivers with DAP which continued without a bump until the download had completed and still opened a new window asking me if I would like to run the app etc). I as per usual had to switch the machine off and on to get it running again. Sometimes pushing the power button briefly, thereby sleeping the machine, then pressing to wake up is enough to get the ball rolling again but it often comes down to complete power-down/power-up.
The problem started occuring more and more frequently until the machine was barely running for more than 3minutes a time and occasionally didnt make it from boot to login. This screamed hardware to me(I may be wrong as I've been out of IT for over 10 years) so I started all the usual diagnostics which all passed consistently. I have an identical machine and was tempted to start part swapping but decided to leave that until I'd covered the drivers, etc. I checked the Event Viewer and discovered no really informative logs as the recording always seemed to stop a few minutes before the laptop froze. There was almost always an event 41 immediately after restart but I figure this is from forcing power-down! I updated the BIOS to the latest version 33 then did my utmost best to find the latest version of every driver on the machine. I updated the Realtek Audio driver, Intel HD graphics driver, Hard disk Driver etc. ('m not to sure I have all the latest drivers as I ran Radar sync which listed driver versions that neither Microsoft, HP nor Intel have listed on their support sites so I chose the latest drivers between the three sites).I ran the machine in Safemode with Network suport to download and update the drivers and becoming a little impatient loaded two or three drivers at a time before restarting in normal mode to test and the machine never skipped a beat while in Safemode. Now comes the interesting part: I loaded the the Realtek Audio driver and restarted the machine. It froze almost as soon as windows opened and I pulled the power cable and got into bed to continue on battery power. On restart I double checked my drivers and got a few messages that the drivers had not properly installed so re-installed the affected ones. The machine ran in normal mode perfectly for a good five hours (compared to the usual few minutes) and I believed the problem to be solved. The battery was low so I plugged the power cable in to recharge the laptop for my wife and the machine froze instantly! I tested the machine with and without the main power plugged in and the result is the same. Each time the main power is plugged in everything goes south! There is no predicting how long it will run before crashing as it can be anything from 1 second to a few minutes but it never crashes on battery power. I've played around with the power profiles a bit matching the battery profile with the mains-power profile nd visa-verse but nothing changes the end result.
I dont know if there is any relevance in this but my wife with her sharper eye sight pointed out that when the main power is plugged in, moving images on the screen start to wobble slightly shortly before the machine freezes. I could comprehend this being a power or PSU issue on a desktop machine but with the AC/DC converter and battery between the raw power and and the guts of the machine I feel this shouldnt be a problem (though I'll stand to be corrected). To be on the safe side, I have so far swapped power cables between my laptop and the problematic one but swapping the batteries seems a long shot to me and I have a nagging feeling that I'm being side tracked. One thing common to other issues on this forum is an occasional loud buzzing sound from the speakers when the machine hangs(the screen goes black when and only when the buzz occurs) but this is rare. Other than that there is no BSOD and I have almost no common hardware with most machines mentioned in the forum. One thing I havent done yet is reinstall windows. The relation between the main power cable and the crashes makes me feel that it would be a waste of time but I was an IT techy back when CPU's were shipped to clients on flat-bed trucks.
