Windows 7 Freezes And Is Corrupt?

Jul 8, 2012

A few weeks ago my computer started acting strange, in that mozilla firefox would freeze a few seconds after I started it. It would usually unfreeze about 10 seconds later, but sometimes it never would and I'd have to restart. I figured I could live with this until last week when the problem got worse and the freezing would last longer (and more often be permanent) and it didn't always require opening of the browser to trigger it anymore.Last week I re-installed windows 7 on a formatted partition, but the problem quickly came back. In fact today it was worse than it's ever been - my computer froze so I had to hold the power button to restart it. After that, I couldn't even start windows without it just hanging on on the loading windows page. I ran windows repair multiple times and kept being told that windows repair couldn't fix the problem. I tried running sfc \scannow but the computer wouldn't let me because it kept saying it had a pending repair and I couldn't get rid of the pending process. Anyway, I re-formatted the partition then re-installed Windows just now, but figure this problem won't go away unless I get to the bottom of it. Obviously a re-install isn't the answer since it didn't work the first time. For full disclosure - I have a 2nd partition and a 2nd hard drive installed on the computer that I did not format when I re-installed windows either time. One is work / program files, while the other is photos and videos. Obviously I can't just delete these, and if I back them up and restore them, any trojan or hijacker hiding in them will just return.Could this be a hardware issue, or does it sound like there's something more malicious here?At this point I've only installed Avast anti-virus and the windows updates. Please let me know if I should run any scans and post back here, as I'd really like to get this issue fixed ASAP so I can use the computer productively again.

"windows 7 setup.exe corrupt file the file or directory is corrupt"I'm trying to install 7 32bit OEM Home Premium with the legit bought holographic CD (not a burned image of any kind) onto a Gateway laptop with a brand new hard drive.I was getting this error installing the OS the regular way booting to the cd and installing from it, so instead I copied the contents of the cd to a freshly quick formatted NTFS partition on the new laptop hard drive, then used bootsect and diskpart to setup the disk. It boots just fine and also gets the same error installing straight from the hard drive.

Windows 7 Won't Boot Corrupt BCD?

Nov 22, 2012

When I bought the kit and built my new computer last year, I noticed that Windows 7 didn't like being turned off for any period of time over 5 minutes. Anytime longer and it would BSOD on me. Sometimes it gave me a full coded screen, other times notSometimes it would take me to a repair screen, sometimes not. Sometimes it would just boot up (I liked those times best) Every so often, I would have to system restore. It was annoying, but I could not find a fix, and when I did diagnostics on the disk, I was never given any errors on for the Hard drive or anything. Fast forward to a month ago when My monitor up and died on me. I had to send it to be repaired. This meant that I had to turn the hard drive off. I hooked it up today and it decided not to work. I tried system restore and the system repair and they have been useless. I contineu to get the following message upon every boot up now[CODE]

Corrupt Desktop Icons In Windows 7

Oct 4, 2009

From what I've read, Windows 7 has a known problem where desktop icons become "corrupt"; as in a white folder look. It happened to me in July, by finding, deleting, and re-creating the IconCache.db folder. That worked for me. Well, it happened again, so I looked up the procedure again. There was a registry fix, but I didn't see what was supposed to be changed. Then I found the IconCache.db method again. But this time, It wouldn't let me (sole user & administrator) open the Local Settings or Application Data folders to get to IconCache.db! Grrr. So I thought I'd try it in Safe Mode. Same thing- it wouldn't let me open those folders. Then, still in Safe Mode, I noticed the icons appeared ok. For good measure I right clicked the screen and hit "Refresh". I don't know if that was necessary, but after re-starting, the icons were ok again. Sometimes you stumble upon something good. Anybody know if the icon problem has been corrected in RTM?

Windows 7 Won't Boot Up - EXE Files Corrupt

Feb 5, 2012

I was getting notification bubbles in W7 about many of my .exe files being corrupt, including chrome.exe and a few other programs. The notifications recommended that I run Chkdsk, so I went to the C: properties and chose Disk Cleanup, or whatever Chkdsk is called in the menu, I forget at the moment. Well, when I did that, I got yet another notification, this time saying that Chkdsk.exe is corrupt, and recommending that I run Chkdsk (lol). Well, I apparently chose to schedule Chkdsk to run on next startup. But after I shut down to let it run I booted up and after my Dell screen I get....nothing.

Just a blinking horizontal bar, looks like that little input cursor flipped on its side, in the top left corner. I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 on a USB flash drive at the moment, what can I do from here? Until this happened I've never used a Linux OS before so I'm not very savvy with it yet, but when I view my partitions on here (500GB HDD) I see that 451GB is Unknown, in a partition manager there is a red flag notification saying that I have bad sectors, which I already knew. I've heard a lot about running a program called ntfsprogs, but I can't find it. Is there any way to recover my Windows 7 boot without losing any of my data on there?

AHCI Drivers Corrupt Windows 7?

Dec 23, 2011

This happened when I was booting today after turning it of last night after using it successfully since I bought it.The AHCI Drivers are corrupt.Windows won't load, it is stuck on the load screen.Trying to repair windows using the various F8 options doesn't work because they won't load either.Even the recovery partion won't load, it's stuck on the Acer E Recovery screen "please wait" and it is stuck for several hours on this. Now, in BIOS, when I change to IDE mode, it will load the various F8 options like trying to fix windows, but the problem doesn't solve itself. Also, the recovery partion does load, but it only gives me an option to install everything to factory settings, not just reinstall windows. However, Windows 7 won't actually boot on IDE mode, so I can't actually get into Windows 7.Therefore, my AHCI drivers are corrupt while the IDE ones are fine. How do I install fresh AHCI drivers to fix my corrupt ones from a USB stick? I do not have a windows install disk, it is all on the recovery partion/recovery disks

Corrupt Windows 7 Pro 64-bit Installation Files?

Nov 14, 2012

So I have a weird situation.A friend of mine has somehow bricked her computer. She is not the most computer savvy person and I have no idea how her computer got to this point, but the computer no longer recognizes her original windows installation. There is no way to upgrade or repair from the original installation as it does not appear. Her computer will not boot except from the installation disk. Her drives are visible in the command prompt. The windows folders and whatever are all there. There is approximately 7 gigs of stuff on her drive, but when you go to select the partition on which to install win 7, it shows it as being 100% empty. I tried installing it on that one first, it got through copying and expanding, immediately after reaching 100% expanded, when it tries to start the next phase, it throws me a corrupt installation files error. It appears to be different each time. So i created and reformatted a new partition and attempted to install to that one and I'm having the same problem. The disk is a real win 7 pro x64 disk, it is in pristine condition and was opened only yesterday when i went to install the OS so i don't think the disk is the problem, however i'm downloading the Windows 7 iso from the microsoft website and am gonna give that a shot. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?Oh yes, and it doesn't seem to want to let me run the Chkdsk utility, it always tells me that i need to reboot and run it from the installation disk which is what i have been doing

BSOD During Windows 7 Installation - PFN List Corrupt

May 13, 2011

I've recently began building my first custom-built computer, I began with an old Compaq Presario that a friend gave me, and I've pretty much gutted it and replaced all its components. The components I've replaced have included the motherboard, processor, hard drive, RAM and PSU (I'll include the specifics of my set-up below). I've been trying to install Windows 7 but have been getting the blue screen (BSOD) before the installation could complete. The BSOD said "PFN_LIST_CORRUPT" towards the top of the screen. I'm fairly sure that I've installed all the new hardware correctly. The following is the new hardware I've installed:

Processor - AMD Phenom II (3.2 GHz)
Motherboard - Ultra Durable 3 (GA-880GM-UD2H)
Hard Drive - Hitachi Deckstar 7K1000.C (1TB SATA)
RAM - Corsair 2 Gigs (2 sticks, 4 Gig total)
PSU - Logisys PS550ABK (550 Watts)

Windows 7 HP Boot Files Missing Or Corrupt

Can Replace Corrupt Windows 7 Pro System Files

Nov 19, 2011

I am using Windows 7 Professional SP1 32 bit on a desktop machine. I run ESET NOD32 Anti-virus 5.0 and Comodo Free Firewall in the background. I do a weekly manual scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Super AntiSpyware. Malwarebytes has never detected a threat and Super AntiSpyware detects about 130 threats each week. My start up folder has 5 programs that start up and run in the background. Recently the machine has become very sluggish, some programs take a very long time to open and when I am using various programs they sometimes stop responding but sometimes they recover by themselves if I wait long enough.A couple of days ago I ran sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt. After it ran it said that it could not fix several corrupted Windows files. I looked in the log file and I didn't understand what I was reading and I couldn't tell which files were corrupt or how to fix them. I ran sfc /scannow a total of 3 times rebooting after each time and each time it told me it could not fix several corrupted Windows files.

I was surprised that when I ran sfc /scannow that it did not ask me to insert the Windows 7 installation CD so it could replace the corrupted files. When I would run sfc /scannow on my Windows XP Pro machines I always had to insert the XP installation CD so it could copy files from the CD into the machine.Today I booted the machine with the Windows install CD and selected "Repair". The "System Recovery Options" screen appeared. My choices were:

- Startup repair
- System restore to an earlier point in time
- System image recovery
- Windows memory diagnostics
- Command prompt

The machine starts up OK so there were no choices that apply to repairing Windows. When I was running XP Pro the system disk would actually do a repair action.I am thinking that the cause of the sluggish, some programs taking a very long time to open and various programs sometimes stop responding may be caused because of the corrupt Windows file sfc /scannow couldn't fix.Is there a way to replace the corrupt Windows 7 corrupt files that sfc /scannow says it cannot fix? The other option is to do a complete clean install of Windows from scratch. Not too much fun as I will have re-install all of my software and re-option everything.

also i remember the week before those crashes that twice the screen driver crashed for a second or 2 and then a message popped up about how a monitor driver crash was adjusted, always when i played a certain game that is still in beta so i taught it was the game.
