i'm having some problems with windows 7 home premium 64 bit, on my sony vaio vpceb2c5e. i got my sony vaio laptop in november 2010 so it's not too old. upon booting up windows 7 on the 15th feb 2011, i noticed the time it took windows to be functional had drastically increased from the night before when it was loaded. i hadn't installed any programs on it over the past several weeks, and about the only things i had running were google chrome (watching videos on Internet), minecraft and msn messenger.now every time when i boot up and i've logged in, i have to wait 5-10 minutes or so before i can even start to load programs or connect to a network, otherwise windows seems to not load the program i double clicked and seems to stop loading anything, but the mouse and keyboard still work and a hard shut down (holding down the power button) is required.
i tested ubuntu on the vaio and it seems to load fine, i have even tested out windows 98 which also works fine (thus eliminating the possibility of a faulty hard drive), it's just windows 7 which had suddenly got a slow load up time for me. once i have waited a long time windows seems to work fine and i can run and open everything i want, as quick as i would normally do prior to this problem.
I'm fresh with Win 7(64-bit). I've used WindowsXp till week ago. Never tried Vista. On WindowsXP when I press "Sleep" button system turns off both graphic and hard drive instantly. Now days when I press "Sleep", on win 7, it takes him 30 sec at best to turn off hard disk and power. It seams too long to be considered normal since same hardware was used with WindowsXp. I was wondering if this is normal for win 7 and can I do anything to boost that time. I searched web for similar questions and found no luck.I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate.
I have a toshiba satellite laptop with Intel Pentium, with Windows 7 and it will not start for the 5th time this week, I need it for coursework it just won't start...no Windows 7 disk, I have uninstalled all the recent software I have installed..

I bought a new sony vaio cb series, black. It takes a long time to open the my computer link as if its loading/searching something. This happens only the initial time after computer is switched on and not happening after hibernation. Not many program has been installed to the machine....
What I need to do is turn on a Windows 7 computer every hour for about five minutes and then turn it off again automatically; while the computer is on I have to run a macro. The cycle described before has to be repeated 24 hours, so, the computer is automatically turned on, it automatically runs the macro and when the macro ends, it goes off again 24 times per day. When I say turn off I mean, either turn off the computer or send it to a low energy consumption state like hibernation or sleep Basically I know how to automatically turn off the computer and turn it on once per day using the BIOS setup, but I dont know how to do this several times in a day automatically and then call the macro every time
I did a clean install of Windows 7 on my 30 gb SSD. When I was done, there was about 14-15 gb left on the drive. After installing drivers, I had about 12 gb left. Then I used Windows Update and installed all the important updates. After all the updates, I had only 4-5 gb left. Is this supposed to happen? Why is it taking up so much space? Is there any way I can free up space on there?
A little over a year ago i bought a acer computer with a quadcore in it and a 1tb westerndigital hdd.I eventually switched out the hdd to another computer with is the one i have now 100$ custom except my os . i have the serial key for my operating system. im hoping to be able to use that serial key to download my os onto a flash drive so i can have a fresh install of windows because i play alot of modded games like dayz and gmod and they fill my pc up with random files i don't need also i think a new fresh install would be nice for my computer. is this possible to do? I do not have the money to buy a whole new windows 7 disk.
my internet started running very slow about 3 weeks ago. It also takes approximately 2 minutes for my computer to shut down. I am running Windows 7, 64bit, with 6 gb of ram. I ran malwarebytes and it did not detect anything. I cleaned my hard drive with the disc cleaner. I ran microsoft essentials and it did not detect anything. I recently purchased Norton antivirus and ran a complete scan and it found nothing. Every time I shut down the computer it takes exactly the same amount of time to shut down.
my computer is currently taking up to 15 minutes to boot up and takes an age to shut down.
This first started on Sunday, when, picking up my Acer laptop, I accidentally held the power button, switching the machine off. Since then the problem has occurred, an although the laptop switches on and works, it just takes an absolute age to boot/switch off.
I am using windows7 There are windows media player not responding"error" and windows take about 1-2 hours to shut down. But all other thing are going ok right now.
recently I have been having a problem after logging in, Windows 7 shows the welcome screen for over a MINUTE. Initially, it would load instantly and the welcome screen would only flash for about half a second.
I have a 2 year old Dell Inspiron 1750, Windows 7 Home Premium that is taking upwards of 4 minutes to boot up. If I boot in safe mode it will boot fine except it does hang ever so slightly while loading drivers, with the last driver being classpnp.sys but it is only for a few seconds then proceeds to finish booting up without any issues.
Here is what I have done so far... - Stopped a lot of programs from starting up at start up. - Ran Malwarebytes and Virus Scan (Microsoft Essentials) both in safe mode. I then downloaded and ran CC Cleaner. Malwarebytes detected numerous entries of PUP.MyWebSearch and two entries for Trojan.Vundo. It was able to fix both issues. Virus Scan (Full) came back clean. CCleaner did it's thing. - Opened device manager to check to see if there were any driver issues, and I don't see any indication of that.
After all this the slow boot still happens. Now all this being said, once the computer does boot up it runs quickly without any issues.
I've been having the same problem that a few others have been having where when I open a certain folder, windows explorer begins to creep up in CPU count, and my computer starts to chug, but the solutions haven't worked for me. Mainly because the problem files are .wavs, instead of an .avi. Nonetheless, I tried. I went registry diving, changed settings, disabled services, to no avail.
I took a windows system image (on anexternal HD) but then now I am not able to login into any of my user acct including admin. I tried entering my password but it keeps telling me incorrect password for both of my accounts.I have Acer windows 7 home premium laptop. Now I am completely locked out of my laptop. When I start my computer it comes straight to the screen when I have to selecta user account to enter my password. I have an admin account andthe other as normal user.
I can be in MS Word, After Effects, Surfing or ANY OTHER PROGRAM, and not click out, but be just working away and all the sudden SOMETHING (your part) causes my active window/program to go like it was a background process. could be in the middle of typing an email, and in the middle of a word and I can get half of it typed and then... BOOM! I'm out. The program DOES NOT close, it just acts like I clicked away to the desktop or another program.
Then I have to click back on my email and can resume typing for a bit. This happens every 5 minutes or so (haven't timed it). When it clicks itself out, it doesn't really go anywhere that I can tell, but something is definitely making my active window/program become inactive. I'm assuming it's some background process, but I don't see anything pop-up or blink or give me ANY indication at all that it has taken the active position.
I'm not sure how to even phrase this question since I don't know what is really going on. But it's driving me crazy in my video editing program (Premiere) especially since I'm in it about 15 hours a day. So it's happening, as you can imagine, 5-10 times an hour during my playack.
In fact, just at this very moment it did it again while writing here. My Chrome page became inactive and I had to reclick right here to continue writing.
I've had probably 50 computers since Windows 98 and I've never seen this before. And of course this has to happen on my big edit monster that I'm on all day. The system is a dual Xeon x5680, overclocked to 4.5Gzh, with 48 GB ram. I'm running on a EVGA SR-2 motherboard running the latest bios (as of 2 months ago). Runs like a beast in everything, very stable, just this annoying problem that keeps surfacing all the time. I'm running Win 7 Ult 64.
My PC started taking ~30 seconds to shut down recently. This never happened before. I must add that it doesn't always happen. If I restart / shut down soon after turning the computer, it shuts down in under 5 seconds. But if I use it for several hours then it takes half a minute or so.I can't think of many things I changed, but I remember installing a number of Windows updates and also new Catalyst 12.10 video card drivers.Things I've tried: Checked the "ClearPageFileAtShutdown" setting, it's 0. Tried this tutorial and used the 2 second thing, no change. Enabled verbose startup, shutdown, logon, and logoff status Messages. This was pretty useless as when shutting down it cycles through "Stopping services" and other stuff faster than I can read, but then gets stuck on the "Shutting down" part, not very informative There doesn't seem to be any hung apps because I get no prompt to end task (I got that a few times before, and it seems to happen way before it goes into the "Shutting down" message).
I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional on a 60GB OCZ Vertex 3 and the drive is down to a remaining 15GB out of 55.7 total available space. This is confusing because my last several installs of the exact same OS on the exact same size drives took up much less space. Even after installing several programs like Photoshop and Office, I still had 24GB to spare on my last install with a 60GB Agility 2.
I recently noticed my computer taking long to bootup (stuck on the Windows Logo screen for about 5 minutes or more) when I have my extra IDE Harddrive and CD Drive plugged in. However, when I unplug both of them, the computer boots faster.
