View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had several folders with random numbers and letters on my computer for quite some time now. They're located in the C:(Username)App DataLocal folder. There's a few folders that have {FFF9808001018839} or something similar to that. When I click on them, they don't have anything in it. Some have another folder or two, but there's nothing in them either. I don't why they're on here or I should delete them or not.I'd like to know what kind of folders are safe to have and what are not. I'm worried I may delete something that's important to my system. Before I delete anything, I do research online and I don't delete it unless I'm 100% sure that I have to. Some of things on here, may be from downloading music, programs, and videos. But none of them are on my computer any longer and I'm afraid there could be some things that shouldn't be on here.
(My computer is always running fine and there not affecting anything. It's just annoying to see all of them there and I would like to have my computer as clean as I could have it).The other question or issue I have is that my computer seems to have the stock name on it. Three numbers and two letters. For instance my documents and files that I create are saved under C:454HXDocumentsEnglish EssayThat's not what it is of course, but it's similar. It's really annoying to have because it makes me feel like it's not personal. Yes, I know to go the Control Panel and Username and Account Settings. I have changed it a few times already, but the "454HX" still shows up. I don't know where to go for this.
this started happening a few weeks ago, my PC for some reason starts typing qqqqqqqq on its own.I checked and NO the letter is not stuck , it is making it very hard to chat or do anything that requires writing. It starts randomly and ends randomly ( but doesnt usually last more that 1-2 minutes ) before this QQQQQ thing my PC would randomly start to generate the "error" sound but i fixed that and it started writing qq

View 6 Replies View RelatedI want to set up a foldertemplate with specific foldercolums like:
- document-id
- client-id
- title
- date
- author
- name
- origin
I can do this very easely, but i can't add data corresponding the columns to a file. The goal is to have a list of different file-types like word, excel, pdf, ... in one folder. Those files have to contain the information corresponding the columns, e.g.:"A.1.1 _ P090402/1 _ title of the original file _ 27/06/1950 _ CocaCola _ windows-name _ mail etc".this seems to be impossible because every file is different: the one let you insert one of the specifications (but often not all...), the other doesn't accept changes (like pdf).
Can we modify or add a custom columns on Explorer?
i just installed dBpoweramp and i can see a complete metadata info about the audio files via popup info & Audio Properties tab (created by dBpoweramp), i consider some of them are advanced info like encoder settings, accuraterip results, CD catalog, etc. can we add a custom columns on Explorer for these info?
and tried to add an extra columns like 'compression ratio', 'encoded by' & 'bit depth' on Explorer but it shows nothing. I can see via dBpoweramp for some audio files, but not on Explorer, it just blank.
As an example, The Itunes directory is in My Music. My Music is in a Music library, so the file details in explorer include album, #, etc. Within Itunes is the Apps directory and other data where "album name" doesn't make sense. I want it to display as a non-music directory. There doesn't seem to be any way to set the default columns displayed in a directory within a Music Library without changing how all the directories are displayed. Nor does there seem to be a way to remove a Music Library sub-directory from being considered as a Music Library member.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Windows Explorer, Detail View, is there a way to remove/disable the additional columns? (ie: Track, Artist, length, etc) I'm a simple person, and only want the main columns displayed, (Size, Type, Date) and Windows 7 seems to ignore me when i change the views. Even the "Reset All", and "Apply to All" seem to be ignored after a day later. In XP your could remove them from RegEdit under HKCRSystemFileAssociations and deleting the "Audio", "Video", and "Images" keys, and Explorer would 'forget' how to handle them, and details view would remain the same, but Windows 7 doesn't seem to respond to this either.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSystem is HP desktop running W7-64 bit. Printer is HP Photosmart 7350, old but working perfectly until 2 days ago. Driver is Deskjet 5550 (closest one for this printer).
I've reinstalled the driver, plugged and unplugged the printer, and tried to print from different programs. As soon as the print button is selected the error condition shows in the Devices & Printers section. This happens whether the printer is turned on or not.
What can I do to get the printer running again?
Been having some crashes. At first they occurred on start up. Claiming the computer wasn't properly shut down. Now today, the other crashes started, with the first happening out of nowhere, the second happening upon starting a video game. I've been without crashes for a while now, only having used my browser(Opera) and copying some files to an external hard drive. As well as the SF tool.I only have 2 dump files available. SF tool file should be in attachments, unless I made a mistake somewhere

I have to power off then power on again for it to boot up and log in.

I dont know if this is the right area or not, as i just joined, but it seems to be the best place. I recently bought a new computer, and now it will randomly shut down. Its also making loud pitch noises. That just started happening. I called tech support and they told me it was probably just the power supply. Before I send it in though, i want to make sure that is what is wrong. I dont know all to put on here.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMight not be a problem for a lot but I'm beginning to run out of letters for Networking disk drives on Windows systems. Once you start sharing multiple CD / DVD devices and multiple external devices (USB sticks, Ipods etc etc) and have may be 12 - 14 Virtual machines together with a decent TEST Bench set of real machines all up and running in a computer test lab this becomes a real pain.
Isn't it about time to get rid of the C: type nomenclenture (originated way back in the 8 bit Intel 8086 MS DOS days or even before).
Even the UNC system is pretty OK (
amemount) .
I'm not sure what type of change would be needed to the file system but IMO the change is LONG LONG overdue. Why on earth we are still stuck with this system which has been around "Since Pontius was a Pilot" I can't imagine.
It really wouldn't be a major problem to be compatable with earlier systems -- you could easily have a simple internal map say references to C: would be replaced by Mountpoint whenever the I/O was requested. Overhead would be very small.
(In any case it's really time to change the NTFS system -- but that's another topic entirely which would be a bit more complex).
i cannot type any letters in the box
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn XP and Vista following registry fix made the drive letter of all drives appear first, in front of the drive label:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer]
"ShowDriveLettersFirst"=dword:00000004
Unfortunately this setting doesn't seem to work any longer in Windows 7's Explorer, and the drive letters remain at the end.
Does anybody know of a working method?
Actually my computer is equipped with a 300GB drive as boot-device with two equal sized partitions on it to alternatively boot either Vista x64 (default at the moment) and Windows 7 x64 alternatively.
It depends on which OS I boot, how both partitions get drive letters assigned:
If I boot into Vista, the Vista partition gets drive letter C:, and the Windows 7 partition gets drive D:
If I boot into Windows 7, that partition gets drive letter C: and Vista will become the D: (Just switching)
But now I start to use EasyBCD 2.0, the Beta version, in Windows 7: After updating from Windows 7 Build 7100 to 7229 it shows me booting Vista from drive D: and Windows 7 from drive C:
Before I did the update, the regular EasyBCD 1.72 shows when Vista is booted, to boot Vista from drive C: and Windows 7 from drive D:
Is there anywhere out there a simple description on how the drive letters of startable devices are allocated?
What about drive letters in BCD?
Is it possible to swap drive letters around? I want to swap the C: drive to be the F: drive, is this possible?
