Random Restart And Hang?
Aug 20, 2012I bought a FSP Aurum 600w today. I finally replaced my generic power supply after using it for 2 years. Now, I just want to know how can I test if my PSU is good? I mean, I left my PC downloading something but when I came home, it hung again. I thought changing the power supply would fix the problem. I also changed my RAM sticks to RipJaws which went okay. The BSODs were gone. Now I just need to solve the unnecessary hanging when I leave it overnight while downloading.I thought that when I replace my PSU with a new one, it will "fix" the restarting and hanging thing because my former PSU was just a generic one and they said it's not good and it doesn't last for over a year so I thought that was the cause of problem. Because my PC will restart as if it lost power for 1 sec then it will return again.

Oct 4, 2012This is my first post and wasn't sure which exact board to post to so I thought installation might be one. I have a windows 7 64bit machine installed on a 250gb hdd. Here is the exact sequence of events. Shutdown computer last night (it had been on for 2 days straight). Turned it on this morning, bios screen loads fine then it jumps to a black screen with the text "Loading Operating System..." and it hangs there. I tried multiple configurations to detect the problem. I feared for the life of my hdd. I unplugged my other 2 hdd and the dvd drive from power and sata and rebooted. Now I get "Loading Operating System..." BOOT DRIVE FAILED INSERT CD AND PRESS ENTER TO CONTINUE. Re-install any other drive combo and get the standard hang screen. I made no major changes to my setup in the last 2 days, no software, no windows update, no hardware changes whatsoever.

Jan 13, 2011After booting, the computer freezes at the welcome screen after logging in as any of the users. Sometimes it will restart automatically, other times it has to be "hard shut down". It freezes at the same time, consistently. Occasionally, through an unknown set of steps, I can get the computer to boot properly. It crashes after a short while of using it, and then once again crashes at the welcome screen. Every time it has crashed so far it was while playing a game (not necessarily graphics-intensive). Again, after this crash the computer returns to just crashing at the Welcome Screen.

Apr 11, 2011I just bought my laptop last week. Im using IE8 and have experienced thrice already that my laptop would hang like forever if its left idle for about 20-30mins. It says "not responding" already. I am really worried because Im confused if the problem is with my new laptop or with the I itself. I had to take out my battery just to turn it off because it really is not responding. I tried to show my task manager so I could end it, but even the task manager wont show. Please please help because Im really worried. Im thinking of returned my laptop for replacement, or is it the browser that's the problem?

Hang Crash During Log On
Jun 17, 2011Running Windows 7 Pro 32 bit, when some of my programs started crashing, mostly explorer.exe, but it would restart itself and then run fine for awhile. It got progressively worse, I ran a update and scan with MSE, and it all came up green. Then I rebooted, and that was the last time I saw my desktop.It booted back up, and prompted me to run a chkdsk, so I let it run, it scanned my OS drive.

Oct 26, 2009YOUR culprit "MAJOIRTY OF THE TIME" is the indexing that's going on in your background. it is possible that the windows defender is contributing to it but from what ive tested it seems to have little to none impact.
ALSO the .NET service "if your in x64 there's two" which run for a short while that are some optimization service. these are only suppose to run when your pc is IDLE i assume they changed that since they decided to load up at free will and once they were finished the hangs/freezing cleared up. by default i always disable the indexing part but leave "search" enabled so i can still use the start menu etc... and turn off other worthless Microsoft crap.
the superfetch/prefretch would also have some impact but even on lower end hdd i have not even seen this to be a issue anywhere.

i started this build in december and the hang has been happening more and more frequently. when playing a game, bf3, in my case, everything works perfectly, cpu and gpu stays cool, i have the windows widgets and a readout on my keyboard that uses core temp to see live temps.
however, just watching a video on Internet or browsing a site, or just listening to music, the system will freeze with the latest image on the screen and if sound was on, a .05 loop of the sound will keep playing. this happens at random times, nothing predictable, and i cannot replicate it. i cannot alt-tab, or ctrl-alt-delete out of it. both keyboard and mouse go dead and the only way to break the freeze is to hit the reset or power button. on some occasions i will get a bsod, but i think it has only happened 2-3 times, where as the hang has occurred at least 20+ times in the last month and a half.
here are some of the things i have tried.
-ran memtest86 for 14 hours: no errors
-disabled on board audio in the bios
-uninstalled realtek drivers
-updated video card, and sound card drivers
-ran atitool scan for artifacts for 8 hours: none found
-ran prime95 for 4 hours: stayed below 55c no errors.
-ran chkdsk
-messed with my power plans
-enabled and disabled fast boot in the bios
-ran full system scans with avast, ms security essentials, superantispyware, and malwarebytes: nothing found but tracking cookies
i have done more but i cannot remember right now, will post when it comes back to me.
my next step is trying a new power supply, the 750w may not have enough juice, but i do not have one to test with currently. i am eying the 1200w x-series from seasonic but i want to make sure it is not something else before i plunk more money down. i am willing to try any suggestions.
edit: forgot to add that this build originally started with a 96gb ssd which i had win7 loaded on. i felt it was too small so i upgraded to the larger one. however when i had the smaller ssd installed the same symptoms were present.
Another Hang On Welcome Screen Windows 7
Mar 18, 2012Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, builder version, SP 1 part of install disk.Just upgraded my case, transferred all equipment (on static mat with grounding strap to me attached to case), plugged everything back in. When I booted up, posted fine, got to login screen fine, then when it got to "Welcome" screen, it seemed to just sit with the "loading" circle constantly spinning.I can get into safe mode with no problem. Running repair with disk returned with no errors.The only thing I changed internally was -1 front usb connection, and I now have my HDD and Optical drive hooked into SATA 6 ports, before Optical was SATA 6 port and HDD was SATA 3 port. BIOS is seeing HDD and Optical at correct locations.when I loaded up safe mode, I got a message saying the computer had to be restarted for changes to take effect. All updates to Windows must be approved by me before downloading and installing.

Sep 21, 2009I currently have Windows 7 RC(Build 7100) x64 installed on my Lenovo Y650. The problem im currently having is that almost all of the drivers/system devices I try to install on windows hang during installation. In earlier builds I never had this problem, and it has only recently started happening. In fact, I am running 7100 only because the RTM build refused to install the drivers for my printer(which i needed badly) and I had to revert to 7100.
So far I have had this problem of hanging driver installs with my ipod, my blackjack II(installing windows mobile center), and updating my synaptic drivers. the install windows just sit there and nothing ever happens. I can eventually end the processes but I experience a slow down in performance that is only fixed by rebooting.
The strange thing about this whole problem is that I already had this exact build installed before had no problems with it, this has only started after i reinstalled(clean) with the RTM.
I have already searched google for all my specific problems and found nothing useful. Does anybody have any tips/fixes I can try that I may have overlooked?
Hang After Login After Typing?
Aug 16, 2011For a number of months, Windows 7 [Professional x64 w/SP1] has been hanging after I login, but only after I start typing somewhere.I can open up applications, such as Chrome and Publisher, and they'll continue to work fine as long as I'm clicking and not typing somewhere. But, if I start typing in the address bar of Chrome, or in the Windows Run box (winkey+R), it'll hang, usually for 10-15 seconds.If I let my system just sit there after logging on (30 seconds or so), and then start typing in a program, it won't hang.The same thing happens on my gaming PC. They both have a similar set of applications installed.I had Task Manager open while the hang was happening, but nothing out of the ordinary was happening.

I removed all memory and put some old memory in did not work , unplued all usb did not work unpluged every thing from psu and put is all back did not work ,so this time when i started the comp it came upto start normal or start up repair i did repair first time it just restarted to the same screen so I did it agen and finaly it started repairing and started up. I did 3 restarts .so it seems ok for now. sorry it 12;22 am I did notice my comp was getting slower to start up for a few days untill it hung today on the starting windows screen.

( thought the link was dead ) then used IDM - internet download manager it works.tried same link on firefox it works...wondering why sometimes IE 8 hangs on getting file information? Last i remember was doing some registry tweaks, already reinstalled windows 7, ran uniblue's registry.have reset internet settings, checked security settings tab aswell. no firewall, not my eset nod32 antivirus blocking.

Sep 17, 2010I have been running a very stable build of Windows 7 x64 for about a year now and I decided to update my MOBO and purchase an SSD to be my new OS drive.I've booted the DVD (2 copies) and formated both my SAMSUNG and my KINGSTON drive's and created my PRIMARY partition on the SSD. I have tried installing it 4 different times with 2 seperate disk and each time it finishes "Expanding Files" the "Installing Features" finishes instantly (a second passes and the checkbox appears next to it).

- everything going good but 7 just stop at Asking for password.
second attempt installation
- so i do another clean installation, i delete all the partition and start a clean installation
- everything goes fine and when i do restarting, 7 just stop at welcome screen.
- im restarting the 7 and go to safemode, its worked. so my windows 7 can go to safemode
- go to eventviewer and find 2 main error on system. which is Error DistributedCom with event 100005 and error with event7001 some networking error.

Jan 8, 2013I am having an issue booting my Windows 7 image on some custom built hardware. The issue is, we'll say 1/10 times booting, the boot freezes when Windows says "Starting Windows, and the first red pixel of the animation comes into view. After this, as per forums here, I enabled boot logging. The boot log does not seem to log anything when the freeze occurs. This makes me think there is an issue with the BIOS. This is a custom BIOS, and I am working with the manufacturer to try and see if they will send me an update, or at least do more research on this. Here are my ntbtlog.txt file results. They seem to be consistent. Should I be concerned with any of the drivers that did not load?

Outlook 2003 Hang Ups In Windows 7
May 28, 2011Outlook 2003 works fine on my computer with Windows 7 - except for one annoyance. When I first open Outlook, it loads immediately. However, when I exit (using the red X), and then try to reopen Outlook, it hangs up. When I use CTRL-SHIFT-ESC, I find two instances of Outlook running! If I end the process on the one using the most memory, Outlook then opens immediately. I am having a similar problem with Windows Media Player. Again, it's not a majopr problem but a real nuisance.

I am now doing a disk check and it was progressing fine till now. the screen says stage 5 of 5 97% (82135612 of 84678825 free clusters processed) for over and hour and the HDD light is no longer on. any advice as to what I should do? I have heard that forcing the system to reboot during a disk check can ruin your system so I don't want to do that.

On subsequent required reboot, however, the system just hang, at shutdown screen. Some half a day has passed already and I wonder what now, whether I should go for a hard reset and force turning it off, and what would be the proper way to do that, in hope to cause the least damage, both to Windows and the SP install and even the hardware eventually?... I've tried already hitting the power button, even for some more than a couple seconds, but it didn't go off and I admit I became afraid of persisting on that... I've also already read about having to hold the power button for actually some 60 seconds..

Numerous Windows applications that come with the OS, such as Uninstall a Program, View Network Status, and so on will not start when I try to run them. For example, if I go into the Control Panel and select one of them, the Control Panel window freezes for a minute or two, nothing happens, and then it's back to normal again. The selected program does not start. I'm running a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. The only new things I've installed are drivers for the hardware, and Skype, and Chrome. The hardware itself is presumably not causing the problem, and it's a nice system so it's not some sort of lack of processing power that's causing it. I've already tried reinstalling the entire operating system. The user account I'm on is an administrator account. Some applications such as Device Manager work just fine.

Harddisk Causing Windows 7 To Hang?
Aug 15, 2011I noticed strange things about my HDD. (I have Windows 7 installed on my SDD, and not on the HDD). Says a weird sound and then sounds like it's charging up somehow, during this Windows lags. It usually happens when I Shutdown my machine. After the process, Windows will shut down immediately. Says "Not Responding" sometimes. And it says it at very silly places, like changing the wallpaper. During this, I can see the HDD activity constant lights on. Maybe I should get a new one.

I've only got a few video files on it - I use it as a media drive. I'll be using the system just fine. When I open up Windows Explorer, and RIGHT-CLICK on any file on drive C: (the solid-state drive), there is a pause while I have to wait for drive D: to power up, and get up to speed (about 8 seconds). Then, the system responds again.My question: Why is this? I'm not looking at any files on D:, why does Windows need to power it back up at all when I am dealing with drive C:?

Instead, some users get a system hang after 62 percent of the upgrade has been completed.Microsoft is pointing to a Windows Vista plug-in, "IphlpsvcMigPlugin.ddd," as the culprit, according to the Fix it blog. The company had published a workaround with complex steps to follow. Now, users with the problem can use Microsoft's Fix it solution to carry out those same steps and complete their Windows 7 upgrades.
