Where Is System Folder

Feb 22, 2012

Sometimes system32 folders are hidden in windows 7 even if you enble hidden files by doing Organiz->Folder and search options. So what you need to do is type the path in Windows Explorer just like C:WindowsSystem32 , then it should come.

Folder Moved Inside System Volume Information Folder

Jun 19, 2012

Due to a NTFS hickup, a folder (1,3TB) ended wrongly up inside the system volume information (win7) folder. Wanted to move it back to it's root, but to no avail...

Tried take ownership, cacls, safe mode, tools etc.

Need to to really move it, because the 2TB disc had no room to do a copy. It's really a FAT/NTFS table issue.

System Restore And Folder View?

Jul 8, 2011

This may be normal, but not normal to me. I just installed Win 7 a few days ago and am still learning after years on XP.When I open System Restore, I only get one restore option, and it's from last night. When I check the block for show more options there is no change even after I close/re-open Sys Restore.Doesn't the system create a new restore point on boot? Doesn't it keep older restore ponts? Also, I want all my files to open with large icons. In many of the folders I can't find a "view" option anywhere/anyway.

System Volume Information Folder?

Jul 13, 2011

I don't know how it happened but I was moving around some stuff and something happened with the open windows (got stucked to the cursor) and when I got it to stop (I've got a new mouse with some small buttons on the side, and I've not managed to get used to them .. however I will disable those)Well the problem is that when I got to unhook that window from my cursor my 300Gb + mp3 folder was gone .. man it almost gave me a heartattack, cause I've been working on that thing for years basically ...I found it, it's somehow inside the "D:system volume information" folder, and if I dragg it out to the root of the D drive it dissapears from the sys vol dir, but doesn't show up in the root at the D drive .. ?? and then if I go out from the sys vol dir and go back in again (basically refresh) then there it is again ..summary: ... cannot move my mp3 folder back to the D: folder since it accidently got moved to d:system volume information ..

How To Create Unsearchable System Folder

Aug 22, 2012

I want to create my own folder that is unsearchable, just like how the contents of c:windows do not show up when you do a root search. I have the 'dont search system folders' option set, and sure enough I have tested it works with c:windows, however my new folder is still showing up. I created a folder c: est, and did a 'attrib +s +h +r test' from a cmd prompt. The command took (the folder is now hidden), but windows does NOT seem to consider it a true 'system' folder (the contents STILL show up in a search). What am I missing here? How do I flag this folder as a true 'system' folder so the contents wont show up in a search.

Do Drivers Go In System 32 Folder Generally

Apr 28, 2011

I've been having BSOD lately after mouse clicks and so I did a "sfc /scannow" and got corrupt file report that windows can't fix (Im using Windows 7 64-bit).I'm just wondering because I looked at "cbs.log" and the files that "sfc" reports as being corrupt (or don't match hash) are files like xxxlan.dll xxxamd.dll and similar. Aren't those drivers like my LAN and maybe my video card that sfc is reporting as corrupts?

F11 System Recovery Wiped Out Documents Folder

Jun 12, 2012

My computer wouldn't boot to Windows, so I had to do an F11 system recovery. It reinstalled Vista and the OS began working again whereupon I used my disks to upgrade it to Windows 7. It installed with no problem. But when I looked for my text, photo and video files, they were all gone! However iTunes was able to reload my music library. It is my understanding that F11 system recoveries do not delete text and media files. But if that's true...

Files Not Showing Up In Folder After System Restore

Oct 8, 2011

Recently my computer was attacked by a virus. The virus made it so I couldn't access my C drive at all, but could still use all my start up progams. For some reason it also erased all of my desktop icons, except for diablo2 LOD (don't know why that one was still there....). Anyway, after removing viruses with malware bytes I did a system restore to about 2 weeks prior. After the computer was done everything seemed fine. Computer was running fine etc. My problem is files that were contained in my folders seem to have disappeared.

I know the files are still on the hard drive, but some of my folders disappeared (these are folders I created long before what the restore date was) making me unable to access the files unless I remember their names and can type them in the windows explorer. I discovered the files were still there when running a video game emulator, i clicked open rom, and just typed in the file name of one of my games I couldn't get to through my computer anymore, and it worked, game loaded up. How I can get my folders to come back, so I can easily access the files in them.

System Image Backup Folder Size Problem

Nov 14, 2009

I have a question about System Image Backups. (Win 7 Ultimate, 64-bit).

I have setup System Image Backups to my external 1TB eSATA drive.

I have chosen to allow Windows to manage the space used for backup history, Windows says it will use up to 279GB (which is fine).

The properties on the actual "Windows Image Backup" folder on the external drive shows the size as 32.6GB. However The Windows backup menu "Manage Windows Backup disk space" shows "System Image: 68.90 GB."

Primary Question:

Is Windows Backup storing my system images somewhere else in addition to this folder, or is the menu just plain wrong?

Additional Question: Is the Windows Backup utility capable of doing differential backups for the system image, or is each backup a full backup? The GUI menus are not giving me enough information. Based on what I see, it looks like System Image backups are always full, and data files are incremental or differential.

Copying Files Into Windows 7 / System Folder Used By XP Mode

Dec 22, 2011

I am working in Windows 7 XP Mode, trying to install and run a Microsoft utility called: WT1230: Batch File Converter for PowerPoint for Windows 95. (See WT1230: Batch File Converter for PowerPoint for Windows 95). Yes, the utility is intended for Win95, but I'd like to see if I can get it running in XP Mode. The utility installation instructions ask that I copy 2 files to the "Windows/system" folder. Of course, these instructions were written for Win95, not XP, let alone XP Mode. Still... if I copy the files, the core executable runs fine, but it can't find the 2 files that should be in "Windows/System". So, I gather XP Mode must have its own Windows/System folder.

Before I got a chance to use this, I selected all of the visible (non-system) folders in c:usersmyusername and cut 'n' pasted them to d:usersmyusername. To cut a long story short, this worked. Obviously i know it didn't move system related folders but it works.Basically it looks like Windows has automatically changed the target of the folders I moved . Is this right?

System Reserves Extra Folder Names When Renaming Or Copying?

I've got a weird problem I couldn't find any solutions for on google. When Opening The HDD Folder In Explorer And Clicking Properties, The System Reports That There Is Only 300MB?

Jun 25, 2011

I have just purchased a new 3XS system from SCAN computers (Vengence). The system has a 120GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. The SSD is used for the OS and programs and the HDD is supposed to be data. The SSD seems to be working fine and Windows 7 agrees. The same can be said for the HDD, however when opening the HDD folder in Explorer and clicking properties, the system reports that there is only 300MB or so on the drive.I have enabled, intialised and assigned a letter to the drive myself, after it was not detected by the OS. I did so in device manager/disk drives by right clicking the drive. When in Properties/Volumes and populating the data, the HDD is recognised as 1TB. It just seems to be the (E folder in Explorer that the device is shown as 300MB. I have tried to drag and drop a 15GB program folder into the Device folder, but it informs me that there is not enough space on the disk to do so.

How To Delete "System Volume Information" Folder On Windows 7

Apr 3, 2012

Let start off saying I know what this folder is for (System Restore) and know how to typically get rid of the space it takes up (merely disable system restore). However, in this particular case, it's not working and need to figure out how to make Win 7 delete it.

In this particular situation this is an external hard drive that I hook up to other PCs quite often in transferring data and imaging PCs (I'm a PC tech). As such, the hard drive has accumulated quite a few restore points on it from these various systems. Disabling system restore from mine does not remove these other restore points.

Windows XP I remember would let me remove it if I took ownership of the files, Win 7 will not (although it does not kick back any error messages). So... how do I get rid of it? Or at the very least, the multiple restore points within?
