On Windows XP, when I pressed Win+L from a logged in account, it always went back to the main logon screen, where I can see all my accounts.But on Windows 7, it goes to the logon screen of the actual useraccount I just left. So then I have to click on Switch User when I need to see all my accounts.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI connected my HP Pavilion dv4-2165dx to my TV via the HDMI slot, and worked perfectly. I disconnected the cable from the notebook when I was done and still got the main LCD display to work. When I restarted the system, the LCD display was gone, just a blank screen with a backlight. The system is booting correctly, I can hear the windows7 startup sounds and even type my password in and access my account. So far I know that:
1. The screen hardware is not damaged, because after some reboots and taking the battery off for an hour I could get the input back with no problem (with windows complaining about being unable to boot and suggesting me to run Startup repair), but got a black screen again after rebooting again.
2. I can connect the HDMI again and get the output on the TV screen, but no main display is detected. If I toggle between displays with fn+f4, only the external HDMI-TV display works.
3. I get no startup screen either. That is, not even the first screen from where I can access the BIOS. But if I connect the HDMI-TV from the beginning I get all that info on the TV.
4. I reinstalled the Graphics driver from HP with no change.
My guess is that somewhat I messed up the default configuration and that the system is only recognizing the external displays as default displays. I haven't been able to modify this from the Control Panel - Display Settings menu, and I don't know where in the registry this default startup options could be.
I have a Windows 7 Professional 32 bit operating system, which is joined to a domain at my workplace. If i open Eindows Explorer and open a network drive ( I: ), then the Windows Explorer open's it, but after a few seconds later, it jumps back to the main page. It is very annoying. I have 11 network drives, but only on two networks drives occurs this problem.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 7 Pro x64 which has been running for a many months without any issues.Three days ago I restarted the machine and Windows 7 didn't start anymore. I have spent a lot of time investigating it and could not find anything wrong with the boot loader or the file system where the OS is.So the boot loader works, I have also replaced it just in case but nothing changed. I can go into the boot loader menu and chose the Windows 7 entry but then the black screen which says "Starting Windows" comes and nothing else happens.Note that the computer doesn't hang, it simply gets stuck at some point and doesn't do anything else. The HDD LED stays on from this point forward and that is it, if I press ctrl+alt+del it restarts and if it were completely frozen it wouldn't.
This Windows 7 runs on a pair of drives in RADI1 so it cannot be a problem with the drives. I have run checks just to be sure and couldn't find anything, no file system issues or bad blocks.The raid controller is not reporting any issues with the drives.I have booted with the windows install cd and tried to repair it many times but the auto repair says it could not repair it, other times it tells me that no issue was found.The boot manager is working fine, I have replaced it just in case using bootrec /fixmbr and /fixboot and also bootsect /nt60 all.I have checked for corrupt files with sfc and no files were corrupt, at least no critical system files.I have manually replaced the winload.exe file but this didn't help either.The problem seems to be at the stage where the boot manager passes control to winload.exe.
My Grandchildren were playing with the keyboard on my HP lap top (windows 7) and during their manic pressing of the keys within 10 seconds had managed to turn the screen upside down, everything is there only the screen is affected.

So when I downloaded the online version and purchased the full version, I'm having the same problemThe game will not move once the main screen come up. The only way I can move forward is to use control, alt, delete and then cancel, which will take me back to the game to the next step as if I clicked on a choice, otherwise the game will not move. I have set all the power settings for sleep, hibernate, dim, turn of HDD to none, or never. I also do not have a log-in password for my username (there is only one user).

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy wife and I each have user accounts and we "Switch User" back and forth all the time, and sometimes leave it at the logon screen with our two icons to click on.
In XP, the screensaver would run on the logon screen, but I'm noticing that nothing happens from the logon in 7. We have use the photo screensaver which makes it a digital picture frame of sorts, but if you leave it at the logon, you'll come back an hour later to see our two icons waiting for you.
Has the screensaver on logon been removed or is there a configuration I'm missing?

I've tried creating a jpeg (the correct size) in windowssystem32oobeinfoackgrounds (saved as defaultBackground) and making a chage in the registry to:
HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Current Version>Authentication>LogonUI>Background... Key OEMBackground value 1 ... but to no avail.
What is interesting is that the original MS background file ((bitmap) in system 32oobe) that is the welcome screen has security permissions on it .... with Adminstrators only having Read/Read and Execute ONLY... O.O
TrustedInstaller has full rights to it .

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a dual monitor setup, with a 1280x1024 VGA monitor coupled with a DVI 1920x1080 monitor. I use the 1920x1080 one as primary, because I like to play a few videogames and they're much better on the widescreen (and higher res).
However, I'd like to be able to display the windows 7 logon screen on the secondary (vga) monitor, it's just a minor bug but I'd like it that way because whenever I wake up my computer, the vga monitor wakes up almost instantly but the widescreen seems to take a few seconds to wake up, and I'd like to be able to input my password and start using my PC right away - I use an nvidia card if that means anything (maybe the ati drivers support it but not nvidia I don't know).
Recently I've been experiencing a white screen after I log in. It appears for about 2 minutes and then everything loads as normal, but everything does seem a little slow.
I got the white screen a few times, tried to boot in safe mode but it got stuck at 'classpnp.sys'. My laptop is working as normal right now, I left the white screen and it finally showed my desktop, but should I be worried about these white screens?
I'm using an asus a52f with 3gb ram. Sorry if this isn't enough info, I'll try to give any more details if you need them.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi'm having some trouble with my screen resolution . i set it at (800x600) cause i'm using a 51 inch big screen hd tv. it go's full screen but then for no reason it puts the bars back on the sides of the screen. i checked and it still reads (800x600) and i can't get it to change back to full screen until i reboot. works fine in vista . i'm not seeing anything about drivers failing so i'm not sure what's happening.

All of a sudden I can't login with my password. I am the only one who uses my computer. I called Dell and gave them my express code service #, etc. and I have already paid them enough! I went searching on how to resolve this and one thing I found I need to get into safe mode with command prompt. View 7 Replies View RelatedOK A few days ago my computer kept freezing and I rebooted it 7 times to finally get it working. I removed about 40Gb of crap (mainly files) that were still present on my machine. Last night it happened again and I did the same. Only this time when I log in to my account I can't do anything. There's no desktop. Just a curser. Nothing else.
The first time I just used CTRL+ALT+DEL and closed dwm.exe which I guess restarted itself because I could use the desktop freely again. The same incident happened again this morning however I cannot access the security screen via CTRL+ALT+DEL.
I am able to run everything in safe mode so it's not a core issue (I hope). I was able to activate the Hidden Admin however the same problem persists across both accounts.
